Charles Lee Buchanan, age 60, of 8410 Highway 19-E, Elk Park, North Carolina, died Thursday, June 12, 2003 from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. A native of Elk Park, NC, he was a son of Lois Fields, of Elk Park, NC, and the late James Buchanan. He was preceded in death by a brother, Jerry Fields, and step-father, Roland Fields. Survivors including his mother are, Two Aunts, Mary Ruth Markland, Roan Mountain, and Nola Freeman, Jonesborough; Two Uncles, Tull Oaks, Jr., Roan Mountain, and Levi Oaks, Gary Indiana. Several Cousins also survive. The funeral service for Charles Lee Buchanan, age 60, who died Thursday, June 12, 2003 will be conducted at 7:00 P.M. Sunday, June 15, 2003 from the Rhododendron Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home, Roan Mountain, with Rev. Tull Oaks, Jr. officiating. Music will be under the direction of Mrs. Frieda Winters. The graveside service and internment will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. Monday, June 16, in Taylor’s Chapel Cemetery, Elk Park, NC. Those who wish to attend the graveside are requested to meet at the cemetery at 10:50 A.M. Monday. Active Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. The family will receive friends Sunday, June 15 from 6:00- 7:00 P.M in the Rhododendron chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home, Roan Mountain. Gladiola E. White, age 82, 200 West Doe Ave. Apt. #4, Elizabethton died Monday, June 9, 2003 at Hillview Health Center following an extended illness. A native of Carter County, she was the daughter of the late Will and Josie Lewis Nidiffer. She was a member of Lynn Valley Baptist Church and was a former cashier at Kroger, White’s, Publix, A & P, and Wright’s grocery stores. She was preceded in death by her husband, Garrett W. White, December 2, 1945, a daughter, Lois Kay White, 2 brothers, R.L. Nidiffer, Melvin G. Nidiffer, and a sister, Viola Oliver. Survivors include a daughter, Sue White, Elizabethton, a grandson and spouse, Joe and Jennifer White, Elizabethton, a great granddaughter, Cara Emily White, Elizabethton, a special nephew, Gene Oliver, Elizabethton, a special friend, Nancy Jenkins, Elizabethton, several other nieces and nephews also survive. The funeral service for Gladiola E. White, age 82, who died Monday, June 9, will be conducted at 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 11 at Tetrick Funeral Home Chapel of Peace with Dr. William Duncan and Rev. Dennis Wilson officiating. Music will be under the direction of Dale Williams, soloist and Sue Bowers, organist. The graveside service and interment will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, June 12, at Caldwell Springs Cemetery. HORACE Q. JONES - Horace Q. Jones, age 60, 116 Forest Crest Lane, Elizabethton died Monday, June 16, 2003 at his residence. A native of Carter County, he was the son of the late George Tipton Jones and Dovie Mae Irick Eggers. He was of the Baptist Faith. He was a U.S. Airforce veteran. He was preceded in death by 2 sisters, Vesta Margaret Jones and Dorothy Ruth Jones and step-father, Edward “Buss” Eggers. Survivors include his wife of the home, Sue Jones, two sons and daughters-in-law, George and Judy Jones, Elizabethton, Bill and Dee Jones, Gambrills, Maryland, two grandchildren, Aurielle Jones and Zachary Jones, both of Gambrills, Maryland, two step-grandchildren, Shondar McKinney and Gavin McKinney, both of Elizabethton, one brother, Wayne Jones, Elizabethton, one sister, Orpha Culbert, Ohio, several nieces and nephews also survive and lots of loving cousins. The funeral service for Horace Q. Jones, age 60 who died Monday, June 16, 2003 will be conducted at 8:00 p.m. Friday, June 20, at Tetrick Funeral Home Chapel of Peace with Rev. Bill Jones officiating and George Jones, eldest son to speak on father’s behalf. Music will be under the direction of Kay Arnold. JERRY D. GRINDSTAFF - Jerry D. Grindstaff, age 58, 295 Blevins Hollow Road, Elizabethton died Friday, May 30, 2003 at his residence. He was a native of Carter County and the son of the late Fred and Hazel Bacon Grindstaff. He was a member of Dungan Chapel Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife of 38 years, Jean Kelly Grindstaff, of the home, one brother, Dennis Grindstaff, Elizabethton, three half sisters, Scarlet, Barbara, Jeannie and all their families, all of Arizona, one nephew and one niece also survive. The funeral service for Jerry D. Grindstaff, age 58, 295 Blevins Hollow Road, Elizabethton who died Friday, May 30, 2003 will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, June 1 at Dungan Chapel Baptist Church with Rev. Eric Heaton officiating. Music will be under the direction of Edwin Taylor and Dale Williams, soloist. Interment will follow the funeral service at Ensor Cemetery. HAZEL C. WILLIAMS, age 85, 229 Blue Springs Road, Elizabethton, TN, died Sunday, June 15, 2003, at the home of a son, Estel F. Williams, 238 Allison Road, Piney Flats, TN following an extended illness. A native of Carter County, she was the daughter of the late Percy and Lula Smith Campbell. Mrs. Williams was a member of Hunter United Methodist Church and attended Valley Forge United Methodist Church. She was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by two infant sons and five brothers. Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Jerry P. and Carol Williams of Elizabethton and Estel F. and Patty Williams of Piney Flats; six grandchildren and their spouses, Deborah and Mark Allen of Smithville, VA, Jeffrey and Julie Williams of Houston, TX, Benjamin and Heather Williams of Monticello, AR, Estel Williams III, Mallorie Williams and Haley Williams all of Piney Flats; three great-grandchildren, Nickolas and Christopher Allen of Smithville, VA and Abigail Williams of Monticello, AR; and a brother, Leonard Campbell of Elizabethton. The funeral service for Hazel C. Williams, age 85, 229 Blue Springs Road, Elizabethton who died Sunday, June 15, 2003, will be conducted at 8:00 PM, Tuesday, June 17 in the Tetrick Funeral Home Riverside Chapel with Rev. Paul Humphrey officiating. Music will be under the direction of Joel Street, soloist. The family will receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 PM, Tuesday, June 17 prior to the service in the chapel. The graveside and interment will be conducted at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, June 18 in Caldwell Springs Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be George Campbell, Charlie Campbell, Jim Campbell, John Campbell, Bill Campbell, Bob Campbell, Hobie Hyder and Hugh Buckles. Honorary pallbearers will be Lynn Rash, Earl Collins, Bill Cline, Dan Holder, Jerry Bowers, D. J. Townsend, Jack Perkins, Jim Boone, Trent Foutch, her friends at Valley Forge United Methodist Church, Edgefield United Methodist Church, and Hunter United Methodist Church. ELIZABETH W. BOWERS, age 79, 305 East Cottage Avenue, Elizabethton, died Friday, June 6, 2003, at her residence, following an extended illness. A native of Carter County, she was the daughter of the late George and Laura Oliver Williams. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Monroe Bowers, 1979; a son, Ervin Denver Bowers; a great grand-daughter, Karrissa Setzer and several brother and sisters. Mrs. Bowers was of the Baptist faith. SURVIVORS include four sons: Jerry Bowers, David Bowers, Eddie Bowers and Randy Bowers, all of Elizabethton; four daughters: Linda Bowers, Emma Jo Bowers, Margaret Morris and Diania Hill, all of Elizabethton; twelve grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; six step-great-grandchildren; one step-great-great-grandchild; a sister, Geraldine Baird, Elizabethton; two brothers: John Williams and Junior Williams, both of Elizabethton; The funeral service for Elizabeth W. Bowers, will be conducted at 7:00 P.M., Sunday, June 8, 2003, in the Riverside Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home, with Rev. Eric Eggers officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 - 7:00 P.M., prior to the service. The graveside service and interment will be at 10:00 A.M., Monday, June 9th, in the Bowers Cemetery. FRANCES LOUISE HARTLEY, age 62, 118 Williams Avenue, Elizabethton, was carried away by a mighty host of angels into the arms of Jesus Christ, Friday, June 6, 2003, following an extended illness. A native of Carter County, she was the daughter of the late Tennie and Margaret Holt Nidiffer. She was preceded in death by two children, a brother, a brother-in-law, and five grandchildren. Mrs. Hartley was a graduate of Elizabethton High School and a nurse for thirty-three years, retiring from the Johnson City Medical Center Hospital. She was a pentacostal minister at the Living By Faith Church for thirteen years. She was also the church mother and secretary. SURVIVORS include her husband, Pastor Dallas Hartley, Sr., of the home; five children and their spouses: Karen and Rick Bailey, Dallas and Melissa Hartley, Jr., Tammy and Eugene Baker, Michael and Patty Hartley and Melissa and Billy Sheets, all of Elizabethton; twenty-one grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three sisters and one brother-in-law: Betty and Rex Simerly, Elizabethton, Kathern Norris, Johnson City and Charlotte Holden, Piney Flats. Two brothers: Tennie Nidiffer, Jr., and Larry Wayne Nidiffer, both of Elizabethton; several nieces and nephews also survive. The funeral service for Frances Louise Hartley, who died Friday, will be conducted at 2:00 P.M., Monday, June 9, 2003, in the Chapel of Peace of Tetrick Funeral Home with Rev. Jerry Davis and Rev. Ray Davis officiating. Music will be under the direction of Sounds of Glory and Tammy Baker, soloist. Interment will follow the service at the Buckles Cemetery. MARY JENKINS - Mary Jenkins, age 87, 1013 Fairview Avenue, Elizabethton died Monday, June 2, 2003 at Sycamore Shoals Hospital following an extended illness. A native of Carter County, she was the daughter of the late Cameron Scalf and Annie Turner. She was of the Baptist faith and a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy B. Jenkins, one infant son Ricky Gene Hill, brother, Harold Scalf, two sisters, Selma Campbell and Christine Hill Miller. Survivors include three daughters and two sons-in-law, Betty and Chuck Mathis, Elizabthton, Sue Elliott, Elizabethton, Kay and Rick Church, Elizabethton, six sons and four daughters-in-law, Paul Hill, Junction City, Oregon, Cecil and Norma Hill, Elizabethton, Leroy and Jan Hill, North Platle, Nebraska, Gary and Judy Hill, Elizabethton, Dennis Hill, Ulysses, Kansas, Terry and Gayle Scalf, Elizabethton,one step-daughter, Della Davenport, Elizabethton, thirty-five grandchildren, fifty-seven great grandchildren, thirteen great great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews also survives. The funeral service for Mary Jenkins, age 87, 1013 Fairview Avenue, Elizabethton who died Monday, June 2, 2003 will be conducted at 8:00 p.m. Thursday, June 5, at Tetrick Funeral Home Chapel of Peace with Rev. Committal and entombment service will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. Friday, June 6, at Mausoleum of Peace at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be grandsons. JILL ANN STOUT - Jill Ann Stout, age 45, Village East Apts., Elizabethton, formerly of Hampton, died Wednesday June 4, 2003 at her residence unexpectedly. A native of Peotone, IL, she was the daughter of the late John and Mary Goodwin Stout. She was a member of Union Baptist Church. Miss Stout was very active in her church and had served in various positions. She was preceded in death by a brother, Ralph Lynn Stout, and an infant sister, Melinda Kay Stout. Survivors include her step-mother, Hazel Stout Neely, Laurel Bloomery, 3 sisters and brothers-in-law, Karen and Jimmy Matherly, Hampton, Tanya and Matthew Hardin, Hampton, Christine and Dave Gunner, West Virginia, a special nephew, Gavin Hardin, Hampton, special great niece, Anna Stout, Elizabethton, special aunt, Ida Hinkle, Hampton, several other nieces and nephews, a special friend, Gail White, Hampton also survives. The funeral service for Jill Ann Stout, age 45, Village East Apts., Elizabethton, formerly of Hampton who died Wednesday, June 4, 2003 will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, June 7, 2003 at Union Baptist Church with Rev. Mickey Beal and Rev. Ronnie Campbell officiating. Music will be under the direction of Union Baptist Church Choir and Dana Leathers, Violinist. The family will receive friends from 12 noon - 2:00 p.m. Saturday, June 7 at the church. Interment will follow the funeral service at Union Baptist Church Cemetery.
