Kenneth Ray Evans

54 year old Kenneth Ray Evans of Norcross, Georgia and formerly of Smithville died Sunday . Evans was a member of Calvary Baptist Church of Lilburn, Georgia. He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl G. and Era Cantrell Evans and three brothers, Frank A. Evans, Roy J. Evans and Brown A. Evans. He is survived by his wife, Janice Evans of Norcross, Georgia; sister, Joyce Norred of Woodstock, Georgia; brothers, Dennis Evans of Sugar Hill, Georgia, Earl Evans, Jr. of Barnesville, Georgia and Dale Evans of Smithville; sisters-in-law, Faye Evans of Smithville and Juanita Evans of Lawrenceville, Georgia; several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services will be on Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. at Northside Chapel in Roswell, Georgia. Joel Caldwell and. Rob Burdette will officiate and burial will be at Green Lawn Cemetery. The Evans family will receive friends on Tuesday from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Northside Chapel Funeral Directors and Crematory

Betty Annette Wilson Duke

51 year old Betty Annette "Betty Boop" Wilson Duke died Sunday of an extended illness at River Park Hospital in McMinnville. She was a resident of Smithville and a Cannon County native. She was also a dietary aide at Stones River Hospital in Woodbury and a member of the Center Hill Baptist Church. The funeral will be Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. at the chapel of Woodbury Funeral Home. Greg Mitchell will officiate and burial will be in the McMahan Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m; after 9:00 a.m. Tuesday, and Wednesday until the time of the service. She was preceded in death by her mother, Floy D. Wilson; a son, Jason Duke; and brothers, Charles and Jeffery "Mutt" Wilson. Survivors include a daughter, Kimberly Duke of Spencer. Three grandchildren, Jason, Tyler, and Juan all of Cookeville. Four sisters, Faye Bedwell, Debbie Campbell, and Crystal Robinson all of Woodbury, and Emma Conatser of Smithville. Three brothers, Bobby Wilson of Woodbury, Wayne Wilson of Nashville, and Jimmy Wilson of McMinnville. Woodbury Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Jewell Brown Lawson

69 year old Jewell Brown Lawson of Liberty died Thursday in Nashville. He was a retired nurseryman. The funeral will be Sunday at 1:30 p.m. at the chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Leonard Herman will officiate and burial will be in the Mount Ararat Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday from noon until 9:00 p.m. and Sunday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 1:30 p.m. He was preceded in death by his parents, Everett Lawson and Minnie Bell Bain Lawson Farless; his wife, Willette Estes Lawson; a brother, Limmie Lawson; three sisters, Emmie Farless, Thelma Caldwell, and Susie Farris; and a half brother, Carlon Mathaney. Survivors include a daughter, Mitzi Lawson of Woodbury. A step-son, Larry Parker of McMinnville. A grandson, Ryan Lawson. Granddaughters, Kendra, Chelsey Lawson, and Sara Barrett all of Woodbury. A step granddaughter, Layra Crook of Liberty. A brother, Toy and his wife Faye Lawson of Liberty. A half brother, Charlie and his wife Shirley Mathaney of Nashville. Sisters, Christine and her husband Willie Murphy of Liberty, Dorothy and her husband Bob Davis of Smithville, and Eula and her husband Robert Presley of McMinnville. Half- sisters, Lucille Brandon and Carnell Johnson of McMinnville, and Jean Arnold of Manchester. An aunt, Delcie Ervin of McMinnville. Several nieces and nephews and special friend, Lucille Day of Nashville and special caregiver, Junior Day of Nashville. Love-Cantrell Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Jane McGinnis

73 year old Jane McGinnis of the Keltonburg Community died Wednesday at her residence. She was a member of the Elizabeth Chapel Baptist Church, a farmer, and a retired school teacher, having taught for 34 years in the DeKalb County School System. A graveside service and burial will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday at Whorton Springs Cemetery. Michael Hale will officiate. She was preceded in death by her parents, Willis R. and Lina Jane Love McGinnis. She is survived by a son Danny Love McGinnis of Smithville and a niece, Sally Ann Thompson of Texas. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements. The family asks that donations be made to the DeKalb Middle School Library in memory of Ms. McGinnis in lieu of flowers.

Geraldine McClure

77 year old Geraldine McClure of McMinnville died Thursday at DeKalb Community Hospital. She was a retired factory worker. She was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond Brice and Ophia Elizabeth Johnson McClure; a sister, Diana Rainwater; and a brother, Marlon Brice McClure. She is survived by a sister, Wanda Bond of Smithville and several nieces and nephews. Ms. McClure's remains have been cremated. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.

David Allen Crook

29 year old David Allen Crook of Smithville died suddenly Sunday. He was pronounced dead on arrival at the emergency room of DeKalb Hospital. He was a member of the Old Fashioned Freewill Baptist Church and a nursery worker. The funeral will be Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. at DeKalb Funeral Chapel. Jerry Pack will officiate and burial will be in the Crook Family Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 11:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. and Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 3:30 p.m. He was preceded in death by his father, Glenn Allen Crook; his maternal grandfather, Dallas Colwell; and his paternal grandfather, Will Allen Crook. Survivors include two sons, Dylan Allen and Matthew Wyatt Crook of Smithville. His wife, Joann Crook of Smithville. His mother and step-father, Frances and Eddie McGuire of Smithville. A sister, Angela Crook of Smithville. His maternal grandmother, Myrtle Colwell of Smithville. His paternal grandmother, Nettie Lou Judkins of Smithville. Special nephew, Austin Rochefort of Smithville and several aunts, uncles, and cousins. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements. The family has asked that donations be made to DeKalb Funeral Chapel in lieu of flowers to help with funeral expenses

Tommy J. Patrick

63 year old Tommy J. Patrick of Smithville died Monday at DeKalb Community Hospital. He was retired from the Murrey Guard Company, a member of the Seventh Day Church of God, and he served in the United States Army. The funeral will be Thursday at 11:00 a.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Jim Short will officate and burial will be in the Gardens of Memory. Visitation will be Wednesday from 11:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. and Thursday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Mary Hillis Patrick and a brother, James Patrick. Survivors include his wife of 45 years Reda Patrick of Smithville. Three daughters, Janice Kaye Patrick and Sandra Rupp both of Indiana. A brother, Barry Jones of Bone Cave and two sisters, Betty Green of McMinnville and Mary Williams of Morrison. Love-Cantrell Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. The family requests that donations be made to the funeral home for funeral expenses in lieu of flowers.

92 year old Eva Katherine Green has passed away.The funeral will be Saturday at 10:00a.m. at the Chapel of Whitson Funeral Home in Cookeville. Burial will follow in the Brotherton Cemetery. She is survived by one son Larry L. Green, one daughter Ann Shively, two brothers Vance and Orley Rockwell, and one sister Wilma Rockwell. Elsie A. Staggs Luna

95 year old Elsie A. Staggs Luna of Sparta died Friday at DeKalb Community Hospital. The funeral will be Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Thurman Funeral Home in Sparta. Burial will be in the Taylor Providence Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday from 2:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at the Chapel. Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Earlene and Bill McCormick of Cookeville, Rena Dinky Adcock of Smithville, and Ovean and J.W. Phifer of Sparta. A son and daughter-in-law, Danny and Donna Luna of Lebanon. Fourteen grandchildren, twenty great grandchildren, and seven step grandchildren survive. Thurman Funeral Home in Sparta is in charge of the arrangements.

52 year old Joann C. Braswell of Smithville died Sunday at her residence. She was a Baptist and a co-owner of J & J Game Room. The funeral will be Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. David Mahan will officiate and burial will be in DeKalb Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Monday from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m.; Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m.; and Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 1:00 p.m. She was preceded in death by her parents, Caine and Anna Golden Conley; three brothers, Jim, Charles, and Jack Conley; and a sister, Bernice Conley. Survivors include her husband, James Braswell of Smithville. Three daughters, Teresa and her husband Brad Long of Cookeville, Stephanie Braswell of Smithville, and Lisa and her husband Terry Pease of Smithville. Four step-sons, Randy Braswell of Smithville, Johnny and his wife Maria Braswell of Nashville, David and his wife Brenda Braswell of South Carolina, and Jerry and his wife Carolyn Braswell of McMinnville. Thirteen grandchildren, Kayla and Bradley Long of Cookeville, Michael and Kelsey Braswell, Skylar, Tiffany, and Hannah Pease, Jimmy Pirtle, Christopher and Justin Braswell, and Shondra Braswell all of Smithville and Holly and Crystal Braswell of Nashville. One great grandchild also survives. Love-Cantrell Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. The family requests that donations be made to the Hospice Institute of your choice, in lieu of flowers.
