Jerry Bingham

55 year old Jerry Bingham of Smithville and formerly of Monterey died Sunday at DeKalb Community Hospital. The funeral will be Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. at the Chapel of Horner Funeral Home in Monterey. Burial will be in the Wilson Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. He is survived by his wife, Janet Phy Bingham and a son, Michael Bingham. Horner Funeral Home in Monterey is in charge of the arrangements.

Frank Andrew Judkins

78 year old Frank Andrew Judkins of McMinnville died Friday at his residence. He was a Baptist. He worked in construction, was employed at Carrier, and was a farmer. The funeral will be Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at DeKalb Funeral Chapel. Michael Hale will officiate and burial will be in Cantrell Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Sunday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 2:00 p.m. Judkins was preceded in death by his parents, Hershell and Martha Harriet Martin Judkins; children, Bruce Windell Ellis, Kathy Diane Judkins, and Margaret Ann Judkins; a brother, Jessie Haston Judkins; and a sister, Betty Judkins. He is survived by his wife, Edna Frances Judkins of McMinnville. Children, Joyce Ann Judkins of Smithville, Alvin Glenn Judkins of McMinnville, Frankie June Rice of Dibrell, and Michael Andrew Judkins of Smithville. Step-children, Charles Ray Judkins, Freddie Joe Judkins, and Mary Frances Ferrell all of McMinnville. Sisters and brothers, Sarah Ophalene Judkins and Nettie Marino both of McMinnville, Jack Judkins, Martha Willie Ferrell, Ed Judkins, and Ruth Cantrell all of Smithville. Thirteen grandchildren, seven step-grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, and fourteen step great grandchildren. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements. The family asks that donations be made to DeKalb Funeral Chapel to help with funeral expenses, in lieu of flowers.

Bobby Charles Mason

72 year old Bobby Charles Mason of Dowelltown died Thursday of an extended illness at NHC Healthcare in Smithville. He was a retired educator for the Warren County School System and a member of the Assembly of God Church.The funeral will be Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at the Chapel of High Funeral Home in McMinnville. Donnie Kelly will officiate and burial will be in the Oak Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday from 11:00 a.m. until the service. He was preceded in death by his parents, Warren Hall and Vassie Lee Warren Mason. He is survived by his wife, Louise Green Mason of Dowelltown. Three daughters and sons-in-law, Bonnie and Charles Collier of Rock Island, Judy and Troy Thomas of Smithville, and Michelle and Scott King of Smithville. A son and daughter-in-law, Jim and April Mason of Smithville. Several grandchildren and great grandchildren survive. High Funeral Home in McMinnville is in charge of the arrangements.

Jimmy Lee Thomason

77 year old Jimmy Lee Thomason of Nashville died Tuesday at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. He was a Methodist and had been a truck driver for 36 years. The funeral will be Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at DeKalb Funeral Chapel. Michael Hale will officiate and burial will be in Salem Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the service at 1:00 p.m. He was preceded in death by his parents, Will and Lola Hunt Thomason; a son, Jimmy Wade Thomason; a granddaughter, Paula Jo Young; three brothers, Willie Wade Thomason, Jr.; John Thomason, and Tom Thomason; and two sisters, Ruby Ensley and Fannie Catherine Thomason. Survivors include his wife, Arlene Thomason of Nashville; children, Carolyn Farrar of Murfreesboro, Gail Thomason of Smyrna, Janey and husband Larry Dickens of Smithville, Steve and wife Kathy Thomason of McMinnville, and Tony and wife Renee Thomason of Lebanon. Fifteen grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren. A sister, Alene Gill of Hermitage and an aunt, Eliza Midgett of Mount Juliet. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements. The family asks that donations be made to the Vanderbilt Heart and American Red Cross, in lieu of flowers.

Howard Corder

A former DeKalb County High School basketball coach died Sunday in Monticello, Kentucky.
Dead is 80 year old Howard Lowe Corder
He served as coach of the Lady Tiger basketball team at DCHS from 1985 to 1994. His overall record at DCHS was 146-112. He coached the Lady Tigers to the Region semis in 1993, which was the last year the program won a post-season game until 2010.
Corder was the son of the late Herbert and Lillian Corder.
He is survived by: his wife, Katy Corder of Monticello, KY; step children, Frank Upchurch of Monticello, KY, Cindy Prestage of Madison, MS, Julie Rosson of Waveland, MS, and Holly Buckman of Lebanon, KY; and 7 grandchildren. He is also survived by: 1 sister, Joanne Corder of Waynesburg, KY; along with a host of family and friends who mourn his passing.
After graduating from Wayne County High School, he went to Cumberland Junior College. He was then called to service in our local National Guard. After he was discharged, Howard enrolled in the University of Kentucky and earned his BA Degree in Health and Physical Education and a minor in Biological Sciences. Howard returned to the University of Kentucky to earn his MA Degree in Educational Administration and Supervision.
The family will receive friends on Monday, October 03, 2011 from 5 – 9 p.m in the chapel of the Marvin S. Hicks funeral home in Monticello, Kentucky.. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, October 4, 2011 at 11 am at the First Christian Church with Bro. Joe Tipton officiating. The body will lie in state at the church from 9 am - 11 am on Tuesday. Burial will be in Elk Spring Cemetery. Military honors will be performed by DAV Chapter 105.

Walter Franklin Blair

75 year old Walter Franklin Blair of Smithville died Sunday at his residence. He was a member of the Gath Baptist Church, a retired diesel mechanic and truck driver, and a U.S. Air Force veteran. The funeral will be Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. at DeKalb Funeral Chapel. John Powers and Robert Powers will officiate and burial will be in the Bluff Springs cemetery in Warren County. Visitation will be Monday from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 2:00 p.m. He was preceded in death by his parents, Virgil and Alma Capshaw Yeargin Blair; a sister, Lillie Mae Jones; and two brothers, Virgil Blair, Jr. and Gentry Blair. Survivors include a daughter, Sue and husband Lillard Colwell of Smithville. Two sons, Randy Blair of Columbia and Freddy and wife Denise Blair of Smithville. Six grandchildren, five step-grandchildren; and six great grandchildren. Two brothers, Joe Atnip of Centertown and Troy Blair of McMinnville. Two sisters, Vesta Kinney and Pauline Corbin both of McMinnville. Special friend and companion Betty Spencer. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements. Kimberly Ann McCowan

48 year old Kimberly Ann McCowan of Smithville died Friday night at the Cookeville Regional Medical Center. She was a CNA for Nurse One Home Health. She attended the Smithville First Baptist Church. The family has chosen direct cremation. A memorial service will be Thursday night at 6:30 p.m. at the Upper Helton Baptist Church in Alexandria. Visitation will Thursday from 4:00 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. at the church. She was preceded in death by her parents, Clyde and Rudy Walker McCowan, Four brothers, Johnny Paul Cobble, Larry Cobble, James Cobble, and Tommy McCowan. She is survived by her son, Heath and wife, Lindsay Murphy of Smithville. Two daughters, Kayla Adams and Felicia Murphy both of Smithville, Four grandchildren, Katelyn Walz, Carrie Carroll, Haley Carroll and Raegan Murphy all of Smithville. One brother, Bill Cobble of Smithville. The family requests that donations be given to the funeral home to help with funeral expenses, in lieu of flowers. Love-Cantrell Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Clyde Edward Martin

77 year old Colonel Clyde Edward Martin died Saturday, October 1 at his residence. He was born in Columbia, Tennessee, son of Clyde E. and Mae Biles Martin. He was a 1953 graduate of DeKalb County High School in Smithville. He joined the Tennessee National Guard in 1952 serving a tour in Korea on active duty as an enlisted soldier. Col. Martin earned a direct commission as a second lieutenant and retired as a full colonel serving honorably for thirty five years. Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Jimmy Martin.
Surviving are his wife, Catherine Martin of Savannah, Georgia; son and daughter-in-law, Blake and Dawn Martin of Savannah, Georgia; sons, Tyler Gerow of Daufuskie Island, South Carolina and Casey Thompson of Savannah, Georgia; adopted daughter, Brenda Martin of Murfreesboro, grandchildren, Amy Lee Ting and her husband, Chris of Pooler, Georgia; Christina Kinkin of Chicago, Illinois; great grandson, Kyle Kinkin of Chicago, Illinois; mother-in-law, Ammie Brooks of Savannah, Georgia; two sisters-in-law, Shirley Brooks Ryan and her husband, Tony of Tybee Island, Georgia; Judy Griffin of Savannah, Georgia and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Monday, October 3 at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Islands Chapel in Savannah, Georgia. A Christian Wake Service will be held at 6:00 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, October 4 at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church with The Reverend John Tran, Celebrant.
Burial will be in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens with Full Military Honors and Masonic Rites.
Remembrances may be made to St. Peter the Apostle Catholic School, P.O. Box 30859, Savannah, GA 31410 or Spanish Oaks Hospice, 8510 Whitefield, Avenue., Savannah, Georgia 31406.

Elijah Sterling Martin

90 year old Elijah Sterling Martin of the Jefferson Community died Wednesday at Centennial Medical Center. He was a retired factory worker and a member of the Mount Hope The Baptist Church. The funeral will be Friday at 1:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Virgil Hibdon, Jr. will officiate and burial will be in the Jefferson Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m.; Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m.; and Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the service at 1:00 p.m. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Nannie Young Martin; his wife, Roberta Adcock Martin; five brothers, J.W., R.D., Chris, Gordon, and John Martin; and a sister, Ruby Martin. Survivors include two daughters, Donna and husband Dwight Knowles and Rita Martin. Four grandchildren, Nathan Estes, Andy and wife Emily Estes, Shelly and husband Chad Jennings and Jared and wife Karen Knowles. Five great grandchildren, Hunter and Emma Jennings, Isaac and Katherine Knowles, and MaKayla Cornett all of Smithville. Family friend and caregiver, Jo Nell Martin of Smithville. Two sisters, Robbie Sewell of Florida and Sibyl Bess of McMinnville. Sister-in-law, Sharon Martin of Florida. Love-Cantrell Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
