May Rigsby

88 year old May Rigsby of Smithville died Friday at NHC Healthcare Center. She was self-employed and a member of the Spring Street The Baptist Church. The funeral will be Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at DeKalb Funeral Chapel. James Wright and David Frazier will officiate. Burial will be in DeKalb Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Saturday from noon until 8:00 p.m. and Sunday from 9:00 a.m. until the service at 2:00 p.m. She was preceded in death by her parents, John Wallace and Elva Lee Henry Gooch; a son, Dennis Rigsby; a brother, Pollard Henry; and a sister, June Williams. Survivors include her husband of 59 years, Willie Rigsby of Smithville. Grandchildren, Tommy and Susanne Rigsby of Oregon and Shannon and Dale Garner of Morrison. Great grandchildren, Piper Rigsby of Oregon and Steven and Canaan Garner of Morrison. Daughter-in-law, Lenda Rigsby of Smithville. Two sisters, Elvera Graysneck of Oklahoma and Mary and husband Robert Birch of Kentucky. A brother, Marvin Gooch of Kentucky. Sister-in-law, Revina Henry of Michigan. A brother-in-law, Jackie and wife Frances Rigsby of Smithville. Special friend Jimmy Taylor of Smithville. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements. The family would like to express their appreciation to NHC Healthcare of Smithville for all the kindness and great care given to Mrs. May during her illness.

Malcolm Lewis "Mike" Johnson

66 year old Malcolm Lewis "Mike" Johnson of Crossville died Wednesday at his son's residence. He was of the Protestant faith, a truck driver, and a U.S. Marine and Army Veteran. Mr. Johnson's request was to be cremated. There will be no visitation or services held. He was preceded in death by his parents, Luey and Ruby Estel Johnson and a brother, Stanley "Doc" Johnson. Johnson is survived by his wife, Patricia Ann Johnson of Crossville. A son and daughter-in-law, James and Tina Boston of Dowelltown. Grandchildren, Ashley Bain of McMinnville, Anthony Bain of Dowelltown, Michael and Shelby Ripley and Ronnie Ripley all of Crossville. Great grandchildren, Natalya McCarty of McMinnville, Arissa, Dyson, and Kenan Ripley all of Crossville. A sister, Betty Jo and husband Charles Smith of McMinnville. A brother, Johnny Johnson of Tennessee. A niece, Ruby and husband Lewis McCormick and Brianna of McMinnville. Nephews, Cordell, Samuel, Adam, and Matthew Smith all of McMinnville. The family would like to express their appreciation to Kindred Nursing and Rehab in Carthage, Crossville Medical Center, and Caris Hospice for all the great care, prayers, support, and kindness shown to Mr. Johnson during his illness. Rose Marie Adcock

83 year old Rose Marie Adcock of Dowelltown died Wednesday at DeKalb Community Hospital. She was a homemaker and a Baptist. The funeral will be Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Larry Steffee will officiate and burial will be in DeKalb Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Friday from noon until 8:00 p.m. and Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Adcock was preceded in death by her husband, Haston C. Adcock; two sons, Danny L. Adcock and Ronald J. Adcock. Six brothers, Albert, Woodrow, Charles, Toby, Gordon, and Bobby Banks; and three sisters, Jessie Melton, Margaret Banks, and Omega Banks. She is survived by three sons, Gary Adcock of Smithville, Eddie and wife Kimberlee Adcock of Michigan, and Kenneth Adcock of Arizona. Six grandchildren, Matthew and Monica Adcock of Colorado, Anthony Adcock of Smithville, Kyle and Kory Adcock of Michigan, Holly and Dale Bryant of Smithville, and Johnathan Adcock of Smithville. Five great grandchildren, Eddie, Makenzie, and Madison Adcock of Colorado, Devin Thomas and Destiny Thomas of Smithville. One great great grandson, Zayne Thomas of Smithville. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Love-Cantrell Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Emory Paul Kirksey

94 year old Emory Paul Kirksey of Chattanooga died Monday at Hickory Valley Retirement Center. He was a Baptist and a retired Air Traffic Controller with the FAA. A graveside service will be Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. at DeKalb Memorial Gardens. Mark Bass will officiate. Visitation will be Tuesday from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Kirksey was preceded in death by his parents, Rufus Carlton and Ida Theus Kirksey; his wife, Deanne Paris Kirksey; and a brother, Addis Kirksey. Survivors include a brother, Rufus Clayton Kirksey; nephews, Kenneth and Phillip Kirksey; and a niece, Tina Barger. A step-sister, Dorothy Hinton Jinks and a step-brother, Cecil Hinton. Love-Cantrell Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

T.J. White

73 year old T.J. White of Smithville died Monday at DeKalb Community Hospital. He worked as a farmhand. The funeral will be Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Tommy Taylor will officiate and burial will be at DeKalb Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Tuesday from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until the service at 2:00 p.m. He was preceded in death by his parents, Tom and Elsie Bennett White. He is survived by four sisters, JoDean Redmon, Jewell Tate, LaVelle Anderson, and Joyce Webster. Brother-in-law, Paul Webster. Several nieces and nephews. Love-Cantrell Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Lena Mae Reeder

93 year old Lena Mae Reeder of Alexandria died Saturday morning at NHC Health Care in Smithville. She was preceded in death by her husband of 75 years, J.L. Reeder on Nov. 6, 2012. Lena was the daughter of the late Will and Mallie Young Sorrells and was preceded in death by 4 brothers 4 sisters and 2 grandchildren. She is survived by 3 sons, William Edward Reeder and wife, Patsy, Fred Allen Reeder and wife, Edwina and Charles Thomas Reeder; 5 daughters, Virginia Ann Curtis and husband, Tommy, Betty Ruth Swindell and husband, Sam, Nancy Marie Hayes and husband, Joe, Carolyn Frances Rice and husband, Gary, Linda Gale George and husband, Jimmy; 15 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Hunter Funeral Home in Watertown with Rev. Gary Rickman and Rev. Tommy Curtis officiating. Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. Monday and prior to services on Tuesday. Burial will be at Poplar Hill Cemetery.

69 year old Haskel Junior Hawkins of Smithville died Thursday at DeKalb Community Hospital. He was a member of the Covenant Baptist Church and a co-owner of Hawkins and Cook Construction Company. The funeral will be Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Burial will be in DeKalb Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Friday from noon until 9:00 p.m. and Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the service at 1:00 p.m. Hawkins was preceded in death by his wife Judy Russell Hawkins; parents, William Haskel Hawkins and Bonnie Barnes Turner; and a son, Shane Hawkins. Survivors include a daughter, Jan and husband Allen Wilkins of Smithville. A son, Ricky Hawkins of Sparta. His wife, Ann Hawkins of Smithville. Three grandchildren, Josh Hawkins and Jordan Wilkins of Smithville, and Brandon Hawkins of Sparta. Two great grandchildren Alixs and Hunter Hawkins. A sister, Dorothy and husband Ryan Masters of Smithville. Love-Cantrell Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Ruby Lee Ballard

85 year old Ruby Lee Ballard of Smithville died Wednesday at DeKalb Community Hospital. She was a Methodist and a retired factory worker. The funeral will be Friday at 3:00 p.m. at DeKalb Funeral Chapel. Michael Hale will officiate with burial in Burton-Ponder Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at 3:00 p.m. She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Beulah Ponder Cantrell; husband, Robert Leonard Ballard; Grand-children, Jason Lucci and Crystal Allen; brothers, Lawrence, Bill and Frank Cantrell, and sister, Jessie Nell Conley. She is survived by two daughters, Sonia Presley of Smithville and Carolyn Jones of Nashville; two Grand-children, Robert Don England and Cassie England. Great-Grand-children, Tyler Bennett, Kayla Wheeler, Cole, Jacob, and Ezra Allen, Serena and Adam Lucci. One great -great- Grandchild, Sabastian Bennett, and a sister, Ruth Prinzvalle of Smithville. Walter Lee Burnett

Mr. Walter Lee Burnett, age 84 of Alexandria, TN passed away Tuesday, July 16, 2013 at St. Thomas Hospital in Nashville, TN.
Mr. Burnett was born October 2, 1928 in Atlanta, GA the son of the late John Elder Burnett and Pearl O’Kelley. He married Dorothy Louise Gray Burnett on June 11, 1948 and she preceded him in death on October 2, 2010. He was also preceded in death by Three Siblings; Benjamin Burnett, Jimmy Burnett, and Juanita Screws, Niece; Pat Pittman, and Great Granddaughter; McKinsey Grace Cannon. Mr. Burnett owned and operated Burnett’s Dental Lab in Atlanta until 1980, when he moved to Alexandria. After moving to Alexandria he opened his Dental Lab and operated it there until his death. He was a member of Atlanta First Church of the Nazarene until moving to Alexandria and becoming a member of the Alexandria First Baptist Church.
Mr. Burnett is survived by Three Children; Danny (Rebecca) Burnett of Dowelltown, TN, Louise (Lloyd) Dyer of Alexandria, TN, Sharon (Sam) Cooke of Alexandria, TN. Seven Grandchildren; Justin Burnett of Dowelltown, TN, Jeremy (Cindy) Burnett of Antioch, TN, Keith Cannon of Cookeville, TN, Tracy (Leslie) Cannon of Dowelltown, TN, Brandon Dyer of Alexandria, TN, Sunny (Joe) Hunt of Dacula, GA, and Spencer Lee Hatchett of Lawrenceville, GA. Special Friend; Brenda Cannon of Cookeville, TN. Two Step Grandchildren; Lisa (Todd) Hieatt of Cookeville, TN and Denise (Brian) Hiatt of Franklin, TN. Five Great Grandchildren; Madelene Lee Burnett, Peyton Cannon, Devin Cannon, Noah Cannon, and Hunter Bryce Cannon.
Funeral Services for Mr. Burnett are scheduled to be conducted 1PM, Friday, July 19, 2013 at Alexandria First Baptist Church. Bro. Billie Friel will officiate and Interment will follow in the Hillview Memorial Cemetery.
Visitation with the Burnett family will be at Avant Funeral Home on Thursday from 2PM to 8PM and on Friday at Alexandria First Baptist Church after 11AM.

Ressie M. Taylor

92 year old Ressie Taylor of Smithville died Monday at NHC Healthcare Center in Smithville. She was a member of Mt. View The Baptist Church and a retired shirt factory worker. The funeral will be Thursday at Noon at DeKalb Funeral Chapel. Dennis Wood and Gary McBride will officiate with burial in DeKalb Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Wednesday from 1:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until the service at 12:00 p.m. She was preceded in death by her husband W.B. Taylor; grandson, Sgt. Shannon Taylor and granddaughter, Trena Cantrell; parents, Horace and Euna Cantrell; three sisters, Effie Head, Jeffie Humphrey, and Ruthene Binkley. Eight brothers, Doris, Jim, Gentry, Charles, Arlie, Fate, Leslie and Horace, Jr. She is survived by two daughters, Ruth and C.Y. Cantrell of Smithville, Elene and Ernest Ray of Adams, TN. One son, Delane Taylor of Smithville. Three Grandchildren, Rejena Turner, Greg and Amanda Ray and Michelle Bullard. Five Great-Grandchildren, Shane and Regina Turner, Taylor and Lexi Bullard, Nicholas and Allie Ray. Two Great-Great-Grandchildren, Darrian and Elaina Turner. One sister, Ethel Redmon of Rock Island, TN. and three brothers, Dennie Cantrell of McMinnville, Billy and Elzie Cantrell both of Smithville. Three sisters-in-law, Maureen Cantrell, Jean Cantrell, and Helen Cantrell all of Smithville and several nieces and nephews. In addition to flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Mt. View The Baptist Church. DeKalb Funeral Chapel in Smithville is in charge of the arrangements.
