Truitt Parker

Truitt Parker, 78 of Statesville, TN. passed away from this life Saturday, June 14, 2014 at Dekalb Community Hospital in Smithville, TN. Truitt was born September 8, 1935 to the late Berle & Mallie B. Herman Parker.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 17 at Prosperity Baptist Church at 2 pm with Bro. Leonard Herman officiating. Burial will follow at Prosperity Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 1 pm – 9 pm on Monday, June 16 and Tuesday, June 17, 2014 from 9 am until 12 noon at Woodbury Funeral Home. Visitation will continue at Prosperity Baptist Church from 1 pm until time of service.
Truitt was a farmer and retired employee of the Tennessee Farmer’s Co-Op in LaVergne, Tn. He was a member of the Prosperity Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, Truitt was preceded in death by his precious wife of 58 years, Betty Ann Gannon Parker; daughter, Teresa Gail Parker; Sister, Freda Rose Parker; brother, Billy Parker; Brothers-in-law, Houston Thomas, Jackie Gannon and James Watlington.
Truitt was known by his family and friends for his sweet reserve, sense of humor and enduring love for his family. He will be sorely missed by those left behind who called him Daddy, Pa, Brother and friend. He is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law: Bobby & Paulette Parker of Gassaway, Kerry & JeriAnn Parker of Liberty and Ronnie & Alice Parker of Statesville; 7 grandchildren: Rachel (Jay) Steinhauer, Kayla (Jon) Addis, Jessica, Allen and Victoria Parker, Justin & Billy Parker; 3 Great Grandchildren: Kayleisha and Ke’shawn Parker and Baylee Addis; Siblings: Jerry (Susan) Parker, Phyllis (Bobby) Young and Betty Watlington; Sisters-in-law & Brothers-in-law: Faye Thomas, Floyd (Fannie) Gannon, Lloyd (Barbara) Gannon, Lonnie (Pat) Gannon, Wade (Judy) Gannon; Also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Claude Butler

Mr. Claude Butler, age 75 of the Pope’s Hill Community passed away Thursday, June 12, 2014 at his residence.
Mr. Butler was born February 8, 1939 in Smith County, TN. He married Barbara Jean Poston on January 3, 1959 and retired from William L. Bonnell as a Truck Driver. He was a member of the Linwood Pentecostal Church.
Mr. Butler is survived by his Wife; Barbara J. Butler of Pope’s Hill, Three Children; Kenneth (Diane) Butler of Lock Seven, TN, Donna (Jimmy) Grisham of New Middleton, TN, and Marlene (Billy) Belcher of Bellview, Nebraska. Three Brothers; Ronnie (Frances) Butler of Carthage, TN, Larry (Carolyn) Butler of Carthage, TN, and Charles (Elizabeth) Butler of Carthage, TN. Sister; Molly (Billy) Anderson of Watertown, TN. Six Grandchildren; Chris (Jerica) Grisham, Josh (Abby) Butler, Brianna Butler, Shelby (Shawn) Weers, Keri Belcher, and Titus Sebers. Five Great Grandchildren; Amariana Grisham, Lyric Butler, Kylee Grisham, Emily Butler, and Chelsea Weers.
Funeral Services for Mr. Butler are scheduled to be conducted 11AM Saturday, June 14, 2014 at the Gordonsville Chapel of Bass Funeral Homes. Bro. Roger Grisham and Bro. Lonnie Dillard will officiate and Interment will follow in the Butler Family Cemetery.
Visitation with the Butler Family will be held at the Gordonsville Chapel on Friday from 3PM to 8PM and again on Saturday after 9AM until service time at 11AM.
The Butler Family request that donations be made to the American Cancer Society. The Gordonsville Chapel of Bass Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. This information provided as a courtesy of DeKalb Funeral Chapel.

James Luther Young

74 year old James Luther Young of Alexandria died Saturday at his residence. He was a Machinist. Born in Roane County, Young was a U.S. Army veteran. The funeral will be Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria. Ronnie Smith will officiate and burial will be in Hillview Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday from 9:00 a.m. until the service. He was preceded in death by his parents, Issac Luther Young and Lillie Rodgers; his wife, Barbara Ann Young; and a son, Timmy Young. Survivors include children, Jimmy Young of Nashville and Tina and husband Joe Howard of Alexandria. Grandchildren, Lee and wife Whitney Howard of Manchester, T.J. Howard of Glasglow, Kentucky, and Josh Howard of Alexandria. Great grandchildren, Koby Howard, Ceanna Howard, Keyton Howard, Payton Howard, Gabriel Howard, and Gunnar Howard. Sisters, Ruth Burris and Betty Young. Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria is in charge of the arrangements.

Linda Carol Saylors

59 year old Linda Carol Saylors of Smithville died Monday at DeKalb Community Hospital. She was a Methodist and a waitress at Waffle House. The funeral will be Tuesday at 3:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Bobby Thomason will officiate and burial will be in Hillview Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until the service at 3:00 p.m. She was preceded in death by her parents, Yancey Woodrow Malone and Beulah Louise Driver Malone; two brothers, Ralph Lee Malone and Yancy Woodrow Malone, Jr.; and a sister, Lynn Duke. Survivors include three children, Robert Matthew Hale of Smithville, Michael Shone and wife Ashley Saylors of Smithville, and Greg Shane and wife Trudie Matthews of Smithville. Nine grandchildren. Several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Sister-in-law, Reba Malone of Alexandria. Love-Cantrell Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

William Dean "Bill" Bird

66 year old William Dean "Bill" Bird of Smithville died Tuesday July 15, 2014 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. He was the son of the late Merle and Lois Kercheval Bird. He was a construction worker and a member of First United Methodist Church in Lakin, Kansas. A memorial service will be held 1:PM Friday at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Bro. Michael Hale officiating. Visitation with the family will be Friday 11:AM until time of service at 1:PM. Survivors include 5 children: Sherri Bowring of Frisco Texas, William S. Bird of Marquette Kansas, Clint Bird of Covington Washington, Cristopher C. Bird of Smithville, Beau Bird of Manhatten Kansas; 5 Grandchildren: Emily Bird, Shelby Bowring, Skyler Bowring, Trista Bird, William B. Bird; Brother: Leonard Bird of Federal Way Washington; Sister: Jackie Bird of Auburn Washington; Significent Other: Kat Martin of Smithville.

Eddie Jewell Adkins

49 year old Eddie Jewell Adkins of Smithville died Tuesday July 15, 2014 at DeKalb Community Hospital. He was the son of the late Cecil and Elsie Goodwin Adkins. He was a long time route salesman with Merita Bread and a member of Laurel Hill Baptist Church. Funeral services will be held 1:PM Thursday at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Bros. Ralph Benningfield and Lonnie Buser officiating and burial in Whorton Springs Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday 4:PM until 8:PM and Thursday 10:AM until time of service at 1:PM. Survivors include wife of 30 years Karen Adkins of Smithville; Daughter: Amy (Mike) Gilpin of Smithville; Granddaughter: Alyssa Gilpin of Smithville. In Lieu of flowers family asked that donations be made to help with funeral expenses.

52 year old Jimmy A. Turner died Sunday July 13, 2014. He was the son of the late James Gentry Turner and Audean Barnes Turner Pack. In addition to his father he was also preceded in death by nephew Eric Hawkins. Jimmy was a Tool & Die worker. Funeral services will be held 1:PM Wednesday at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Bro. Dwight Knowles officiating and burial in the Jefferson Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be Tuesday from 10:AM until 8:PM and Wednesday 9:AM until time of the service at 1:PM. Survivors include daughter: Danielle Turner of McMinnville; Longtime Companion: Angela Turner of Smithville; Mother & Step-Father: Audean and Ernest Pack of Smithville; 2 Sisters: Judy Pat (Gary) Mucha and Treba (Don) Hawkins all of Smithville; 2 Nephews: Tracy Stanley and Trent Hawkins.

Johnny Ringo Colwell

54 year old Johnny Ringo Colwell of Smithville died Sunday July 13, 2014 at his residence. He was the son of the late Toy and Lydia Williams Colwell. He was self employed construction worker and a member of New West Point Freewill Baptist Church. In addition to his parents his was also preceded in death by 5 brothers: John, James, Dallas, Floyd and Lillard Colwell. Survivors include his wife Sharon Colwell of Smithville; 1 Son: Jeremy (Patricia) Colwell of Smithville; 2 Grandchildren: Aidan Johnny and Jadence Colwell; 1 Sister: Martha Moore of Sparta; Brothers: Daniel Colwell of McMinnville, Eugene Colwell and Willard Colwell both of Smithville. Family has chosen direct cremation with a memorial service to be held later at their residence. In lieu of flowers donations be made to help with funeral expenses.

Christine Adcock

70 year old Christine Adcock of Smithville died Sunday morning, July 13, 2014 at Centennial Medical Center in Nashville. She was the daughter of the late John and Mettie Neeley Green. She was retired from LBJ&C Headstart and a member of the Keltonburg Church of Christ. In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by son Davy Adcock; Sister: Elsie Steinbach; Brother: Kenny Green. Funeral services will be held 1:PM Tuesday at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Bros. Eugene Adkins and Dan Gulley officiating and burial in Corinth Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be Monday from 1:PM until 8:PM and Tuesday from 9:AM until time of service at 1:PM. Survivors include husband of 55 yrs. Albert Adcock of Smithville; Daughter: Emma (Eugene) Adkins of Smithville; Granddaughter: Ellie Adkins; 3 Sisters: Sara Adcock of Murfreesboro, Joyce (Chester) Carman of Louisville and Fay Cantrell of Smithville; 5 Brothers: James (Ginny) Green of Columbia, Tommy Green of Smithville, John (Judie) Green of Sparta, Eddie (Carol) Green and Jack (Deana) Green all of Smithville; Several Nieces and Nephews also survive. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Guyana Mission Fund in care of the Keltonburg Church of Christ in memory of Mrs. Christine.

Danny Tatrow

67 year old Danny Tatrow of Smithville died Friday at his son's residence in Ooltewah. He was a retired truck driver, a Catholic, and a Mason, belonging to the DeKalb Lodge #358. The funeral will be Sunday at 3:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. David Frazier and Denis Jenkins will officiate and burial will be in DeKalb Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Sunday from 10:00 a.m. until the service at 3:00 p.m. Tatrow was preceded in death by his father, Robert Kenneth Tatrow and two sisters, Debra Lynn Tatrow and Joy Ann Tatrow. Survivors include three children, Rodney and wife Lanna Tatrow of Strawberry Plains, Danny and wife Cindy Tatrow of Ooltewah and Eva and husband Tim Dover of Smithville. Seven grandchildren, Wesley, Danielle, Luke, Brad, Kyle, and Alexis Tatrow and T.J. Pascal. Two great grandchildren. His mother, Eva Lois Johnson Tatrow. Four brothers, James and wife Debbie Tatrow, Keith Tatrow, Kevin and Debbie Tatrow all of Garden, Michigan and Bucky and Brenda Tatrow of Smithville. Four sisters, Laurel and Denis Jenkins, Shelby and Frank Lawrence, Mary Jo and Corky Britt all of Smithville and Claudia and Tom Klink of Garden, Michigan. Several nieces and nephews survive. Love-Cantrell Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
