Baby Boy Sosa

A graveside service for the stillborn infant of Lillian Elizebeth Sosa will be Monday, January 28th, at 3:00 p.m. at DeKalb Cemetery. There will be no visitation at the funeral home. Everyone will assemble at the cemetery for the service. The child was stillborn on October 26th.

Johnny Lee Williams

62 year old Johnny Lee Williams of King Ridge Road, Dowelltown died Saturday at his residence. He was a respiratory therapist and a member of the Smithville Church of Christ. A private graveside service will be held and Dan Gulley will officiate. No visitation will be held with the Williams family. He was preceded in death by his father, William Dallas Williams and a sister, Virginia Nokes. Survivors include his wife, Joannie Williams of Dowelltown. Two daughters, Amy and her husband Patrick Cripps of Smithville and Shelli Williams of Murfreesboro. Grandchildren, Callie Cripps and Zoe Cripps. His mother, Mildred Williams. An aunt and uncle, Jewell and Earnest Davis of McMinnville. An uncle, Aubrey Williams of McMinnville. A nephew, Charles Nokes of Smithville. The family requests that donations be made, in lieu of flowers, to a memorial fund in memory of Johnny at the funeral home. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.

Jack Hudson Grandstaff

71 year old Jack Hudson Grandstaff of Alexandria died Friday at the Quality Care Health Center in Lebanon. He was a DeKalb County native, a car salesman, and a member of the New Hope Baptist Church. The funeral will be Monday at 3:00 p.m. at Hunter Funeral Home in Watertown. Danny Sellars will officiate and burial will be in the New Hope Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday from 1:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. He was preceded in death by a son, Jackie Grandstaff; his mother, Ruth Green Grandstaff; a brother, Jerry Grandstaff; a great granddaughter, Shaelynn Linon; and a stepdaughter, Kimberly Collier. Survivors include children, Debbie and her husband Gary Jones and Jan and her husband Mike Grandstaff Dykes all of Lebanon. Friends, Kim and her husband Lonnie Sadler of Lebanon. His father, Elbert Grandstaff of Alexandria. Six grandchildren, Gary and his wife Melissa Jones, Melanie Jones, Jacquelynn and her husband Chris Linton, Hunt and Brittany Stutts, and Leslie Sadler. Six great grandchildren, Chase, Branden and Ashtyen Jones, Anthony Sells, Braelynn Linton, and Wyatt Jones. One niece and three nephews. Hunter Funeral Home in Watertown is in charge of the arrangements.

Mattie Frances Malone

82 year old Mattie Frances Malone of Alexandria died Saturday at the Boulevard Terrace Nursing Center in Murfreesboro. The body is at Avant Funeral Home in Alexandria where the funeral will be Monday at 2:00 p.m. Elder Barry Whitaker and Elder Frank Randolph will officiate and burial will be in Hillview Memorial cemetery in Alexandria. The Malone family will receive friends at Avant Funeral Home on Sunday from 1:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the service time at 2:00 p.m. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn and Leonard Saddler of Nashville. A granddaughter, Hana and her husband Joseph Fagan of Nashville. Brothers, Jimmy Curtis of Alexandria, Ralph and his wife Faye Curtis of Alexandria, Roy Dale and his wife Linda Curtis of Watertown. Sisters, Gladys Driver, Gracie Henley, and Amy Johnson all of Alexandria. A brother-in-law, Albert James Malone of Nashville. A sister-in-law, Willie Belle Harvey of Alexandria. Avant Funeral Home in Alexandria is in charge of the arrangements.

Hunter Loren Davis

16 year old Hunter Loren Davis of Smithville died Saturday night in a traffic accident. He was a member of the Dry Creek Baptist Church and a sophomore at DeKalb County High School where he was a member of the FFA. The funeral will be Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. at DeKalb Funeral Chapel. Donald Owens will officiate and burial will be in Salem Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 10:00 a.m. until 9:00 pm. and Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 2:00 p.m. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Garland Cripps. He is survived by his parents, Ray and Annette Davis of Smithville. A brother, Tanner Davis of Smithville. A sister, Christian Davis of Atlanta, Georgia. His maternal grandmother, Violet Cripps of Smithville. His paternal grandparents, Ann Baldwin of Nashville and Raymond Davis of Nashville. A niece, Layla Davis of Atlanta, Georgia. Special girlfriend, Andrea Stringer of Smithville.His paternal great grandmother, Beatrice Moore of Nashville. Uncle, Stevie and his wife Brenda Cripps of Smithville. Aunts, Terresa Ayers of Smyrna and Lucy Davis of Donelson. Cousins, Chris Wood, Marcus and Corey Ayers, and numerous great aunts and uncles and a host of friends also survive. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.

A Memorial Scholarship Fund has been established in memory of Hunter Davis. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the scholarship fund.

Jim L. Brown

77 year old Jim L. Brown of Dowelltown died Friday of an extended illness at DeKalb Community Hospital. He was a Cannon County native, a farmer, and a member of the Clear Fork United Methodist Church. The funeral will be Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Woodbury Funeral Home. Donald Owens will officiate and burial will be in the Sycamore Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. He was preceded in death by his parents, Cecil and Roberta Campbell Brown; a daughter, Donna Kay Florida; a brother, Jr. Brown and a sister, Dorothy Ann Grizzle. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Mrs. Novella Merriman Brown of Dowelltown. Four daughters, Charlene and her husband Barry Thaxton and Sandra and her husband Chris Grandstaff all of Alexandria, Audrey May and her husband Bobby Martin of Liberty; and Lorri Evone Brown of Dowelltown. One brother, Ben Brown of Woodbury. Five sisters, Patsy Phillips, Joyce Hale, Geraldine Bryson, and Sue Curtis all of Woodbury and Becky Haynes of Crossville. A son-in-law, Monroe Florida of Gassaway. Thirteen grandchildren and several great grandchildren also survive. Woodbury Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

David George Bennett

57 year old David George Bennett, DVM of Brush Creek died Wednesday at his residence. Dr. Bennett was born in Knoxville, the son of June Caprice Anderson and the late George Emerson Bennett. He was a graduate of Huntsville, Alabama High School, received his BS at the University of Alabama and his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine at Auburn University in 1977, and returned to the Tennessee area to practice Veterinary Medicine. He was married in 1973 to Karen Elizabeth Ransom. He was a member of New Middleton Masonic Lodge # 249, F. & A.M. and the Brush Creek United Methodist Church. Dr. Bennett is survived by his wife of 34 years, Karen Bennett of Brush Creek. Three Children: Melissa Ransom Bennett Schwerzler, her husband, CW2 Martin Schwerzler and their children, Cole and Sabrina of Fort Stewart, Georgia, Martha Bennett Given, DVM, and her husband, Chad Given, DVM of Nashville, and David George Bennett, Jr. and his wife, Michella and their children, Cora and Emerson of Brush Creek. His mother, June Bennett of Brush Creek. A sister, Pam Bennett Throne, her husband, Ken Throne and their children, Gordie and Brittany of Pleasanton, California. A Celebration of Life for Dr. Bennett will be held at the Gordonsville Chapel of Bass Funeral Homes on Friday at 3:00 p.m. Burial will follow at Brush Creek Cemetery. The Bennett family will receive friends at the Gordonsville Chapel on Thursday from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and on Friday from 2:00 p.m. until service time at 3:00 p.m. New Middleton Masonic Lodge # 249 will have a Masonic service at the Gordonsville Chapel on Thursday night at 7:00 p.m. The Gordonsville Chapel of Bass Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Harrison White Hobbs

81 year old Harrison White Hobbs of Lowell, Indiana died Sunday at St. Anthony's Hospital. He was a Baptist and a retired heavy equipment crane operator. The funeral will be Friday at 11:00 a.m. at DeKalb Funeral Chapel. Leonard Herman will officiate and burial will be in DeKalb Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Thursday from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Friday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:00 a.m. He was preceded in death by his parents, Houston and Ella Ashford Hobbs; a grandchild, Patrick Koster; brothers, Arnold Hobbs and Sammy Hobbs; and a sister, Juanita Ferrell. Survivors include his wife, Ann M. Hobbs of Lowell, Indiana. Children, Debbie and her husband Jack Tauber of St. John, Indiana and Wilburn Hobbs of Lansing, Illinois. Grandchildren, Phillip Koster, Adam Hobbs, Joshua Hobbs, Andrew Koster, and Gregory Hobbs. Great grandchildren, Madison Koster, Mason Koster, and Hunter Hobbs. A sister, Oleta and her husband Bud Hale of Smithville. Brothers, John and his wife Josie Hobbs and Bill Hobbs all of Smithville. A sister-in-law, Johnnie Hobbs of Murfreesboro. Eula Medley Mathis

97 year old Eula Medley Mathis of Smithville died Saturday at NHC Healthcare Center in Smithville. She was a retired factory worker and a member of the Smithville Church of Christ. The funeral will be Monday at 2:00 p.m. at the Smithville Church of Christ. Dan Gulley will officiate and burial will be in DeKalb Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Sunday from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home and Monday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 2:00 p.m. at the church. She was preceded in death by her parents, C.C. and Pearl Medley; brothers, Howard, Alfred, Buster, Robert, and Floyd Medley; and sisters, Ruth Moulton and Bula Maggart. Survivors include three brothers, Kenneth "Bud" and his wife Nell Medley of Smithville, Joe Medley of Baxter, and Gerald Medley of Smithville. One sister, Lucille Fuson of McMinnville. Several nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and a host of friends and special neighbors, Jimmy and Debbie Driver and Bea Pack. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.

Jerry Estle Summers

42 year old Jerry Estle Summers of Smithville died Thursday at St. Francis Hospital in Bartlett, Tennessee. He was a construction worker. The funeral will be Sunday at 1:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Braswell Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 4:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m.; Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m.; and Sunday from 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. He was preceded in death by his parents, Estel and Ruby Pedigo Summers and a sister, Kimberly Young. Survivors include three sons, Daniel, Josh, and Matthew Summers. A daughter, Brandee Summers. Companion, Tonya Caldwell. A step-daughter, Brittany Barnes. Four grandchildren, Payton, Kaitlyn, and Addison Summers and Brooklyn Barnes all of Smithville. One sister and brother-in-law, Vickie and Don Womack of McMinnville. One niece, Bethany Womack and two nephews, Jeremy and Cody Young. Love-Cantrell Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
