George Lewis McClain

75 year old George Lewis McClain of McMinnville died Thursday at DeKalb Community Hospital. He was a member of the Westside Baptist Church and retired from the U.S. Army. He was a member of the VFW. A memorial service will be held Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at the Westside Baptist Church in McMinnville. Tyree Smith will officiate. He was preceded in death by his wife, Bernice White McClain; parents, Joe Haskel and Georgia Pearl Turner McClain; a daughter, Elaine Violet McClain; a brother, Cecil McClain; and sisters, Ruby Anita Rackley and Lena Marie Turner. Survivors include two sons, Geary McClain of Pennsylvania and Michael Edward McClain of Smithville.. Three grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Sisters, Laura Jane McClain of McMinnville, JoAnna McClain Stuber of Florida, Mary Elizabeth Jernigan of Viola and Mae Prater of McMinnville. Brothers, William E. McClain, James H. McClain of Smithville, Walter V. McClain of Murfreesboro and Ricky McClain of Smithville. Mr. McClain's remains have been donated to the West Virginia University Guest Register for research. The family asks that donations be made to the Westside Baptist Church in McMinnville, in lieu of flowers. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.

Esther Elaine Asbury

64 year old Esther Elaine Asbury of Smithville died Monday at her residence. She was a factory worker and was affiliated with the Church of Christ. She was preceded in death by her husband, Stanley Asbury; her parents, Alfred and Elgie E. Bechtol; infant sisters, Enola Mae and Carol Beth Bechtol; and brothers, Ralph Bechtol and Denver G. Bechtol. Survivors include two children, Richard Schilt of Smithville and Lori Black of Dowelltown. Two grandchildren, Kiley Yoder of Dowelltown and Brandon Schilt of Smithville. A great granddaughter, Angelina Yoder. Two brothers, Martin and his wife Joyce Bechtol of Montpelier, Ohio; Leslie and his wife Martha Bechtol of Edon, Ohio. A sister, Eileen Sue and her husband Ed Gipple of Montpelier, Ohio. Ms. Asbury's remains have been cremated. There will be a private memorial service held at a later date.

Patrick Steve Cook

44 year old Patrick Steve Cook of Ormund Beach, Florida died Monday at Ormund Memorial Hospital. He was a former resident of Liberty, a self employed contractor, and a member of the First Baptist Church. A memorial service will be held at Ormund Beach, Florida. Another memorial service will take place at Love-Cantrell Funeral Home in Smithville on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. Donnie Kelly will officiate. Visitation will be Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the Memorial Service. He was preceded in death by his father, Bratten Hale Cook, Sr.; a sister, Gayden Richardson; and a nephew, Patrick Ford. He is survived by his wife, Pat Harrison Cook; two sons, Elliot Cook of Ormund Beach, Florida and Colin Cook of Lexington. He is also survived by his mother, Jo Bill Cook of Smithvile. A brother and sister-in-law, Bratten "Butch" Cook and Judy Cook of Smithville. A sister, Jo Lynn Cook of Smithville. A sister and brother-in-law, Murphy Ann Ford and Jeffrey Buck Ford of Nashville. Two nieces, Megan Cook of Smithville and Jesse Ford of Nashville. Four nephews, Bratten Cook of Cookeville, Andrew Cook of Murfreesboro, Tucker and James Ford of Nashville. One great nephew, Ari Cook. One great niece, Devin Cook of McMinnville. Contributions may be made, in lieu of flowers, to a trust fund for Steve's minor son, Elliot, at any Region's Bank location or at Love-Cantrell Funeral Home.

Haskel Elby Howard

87 year old Haskel Elby Howard of Smithville died Monday morning at DeKalb Community Hospital. He was the son of the late Erbie Haskel and Mertie Ovella Slagle Howard. He was also preceded in death by an infant brother and two other brothers, Kenneth D. Howard and Holly J. Howard. Mr. Howard was retired from the U.S. Navy, having served from 1939 until 1959, retiring as a Chief Petty Officer. Survivors include his wife, Chizuko Howard of Smithville. Three children, Michael Kenji and his wife Kelli Howard of Batavia, Ohio; Riki Lynn and his wife Gina Howard of Brentwood; and Michiko Naomi Howard and her husband Tim Martin of Smithville. Seven grandchildren, Raleigh Preston Howard, Kenleigh Nicole Howard, Allison Taylor Howard, Slater Jackson Howard, Hayley Midori Martin, Raiden Alexander Martin, and Madeline Aiko Martin. Many cousins in Tennessee and many western states also survive. Mr. Howard's remains have been cremated. There will be no vistitation held at the funeral home. There will be a graveside memorial service held Thursday at 9:30 a.m. with full Military Honors at the Howard cemetery in White County. Chuck Olson and Michael Hale will officiate. The cemetery is located on the Old Kentucky Road. Mr. Howard requested NO flowers. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the charity of your choice, the American Cancer Society, Disabled American Veterans, Justin Potter Library, or the DeKalb County High School Library with books about our nation's history or military. All donations can be made by calling or coming by the funeral home. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.

Willie Beatrice Smith

91 year old Willie Beatrice Smith of Alexandria and formerly of Statesville died Friday at University Medical Center in Lebanon. A retired garment factory worker, she was born in Statesville and was a member of the Statesville United Methodist Church. The funeral will be Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at Hunter Funeral Home in Watertown. Burial will be in the Jennings Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday from 1:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Sunday from 10:00 a.m. until the service time. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Smith; a son-in-law, Clyde Vanatta; sisters, Irene Armstrong, Lucille Taylor, and Arbella Vantrease. Her parents were the late Oza Hardin and Minnie Tennessee Ricketts Hardin. Survivors include two daughters, Nelda Bettes and Barbara Vanatta both of Alexandria. Grandchildren, Tammy Vanatta of Alexandria, Teresa and her husband Tom Lynch of Alexandria, and Richie Vanatta of Statesville. A great grandson, Kameron Vanatta of Pleasant Shade. A sister, Arlene Hayes of Sellarsburg, Indiana. One niece and two nephews. Caregiver, Dora Johnson. Hunter Funeral Home in Watertown is in charge of the arrangements.

Hester Walker Warren

94 year old Hester Walker Warren of McMinnville died Wednesday of a short illness at DeKalb Community Hospital. She was a member of the Church of Christ and a housewife. The funeral will be Saturday at 3:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Woodbury Funeral Home. Charles Williams will officiate and burial will be in the Blues Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. She was preceded in death by her parents, Johnny Isaac Walker and Willie Reed Passons Walker; her husband, Jake Lane Warren; her son, Ernest Lee Warren; and her grandson, Steven Warren Stanley. She is survived by three sons, J.L., Norman, and Harold Warren all of Cannon County. Three daughters, Sepal and husband Rex Pedigo of McMinnville, Lucy and husband Steve Stanley of Smithville, and Carol and husband Aubrey Gunter of Short Mountain. Eight grandchildren and several great grandchildren also survive. Woodbury Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Jake Montana Hoover

18 year old Jake Montana Hoover of Liberty died Sunday in an automobile accident at Liberty. He was born in DeKalb County, a student, and a member of Salem Baptist Church. The funeral will be Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at Salem Baptist Church. Mike Carpenter, Mark Wade, and Phil Dougan will officiate and burial will be in Salem Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 10:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the church and Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the funeral at the church. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, James O. Hoover; his great grandmother, Nevada Brennan; a great aunt, Donna Brennan; and an uncle, Russell Hogan. He is survived by his parents, Craig and Tammy Hoover of Liberty. A brother, Ryan Davidson of Liberty. Grandmothers, Patricia Hoover of Liberty and Donnie Wanger of Smithville. Uncles, Kim and Beth McDougal of Monticello, Florida, Jay Hoover of West Palm Beach, Florida, and Mitch McGilvra of Palm Bay, Florida. An aunt, Laurie and husband Doug Beals of Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Cousins, Jason and Jacob McDougal of Monticello, Florida and James and Beth Beals of Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Best friend, Justin Poteete of Liberty and the entire Salem Baptist Church family. Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria is in charge of the arrangements. The family has requested that contributions be made to the family at the funeral home, in lieu of flowers.

Maureen Adcock

83 year old Maureen Adcock of Smithville died Wednesday at NHC Healthcare Center in Smithville. She was a member of the New Union The Baptist Church and a retired factory worker. The funeral will be Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at DeKalb Funeral Chapel. Bryan Jones will officiate and burial will be in the New Union Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 10:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until the service at 11:00 a.m. She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Bertie Walker Adcock; brothers, Thanuel, Clemon, and Truman Adcock; and a sister, Ruby Adcock. She is survived by nieces, Geneva Knowles and Thelma Adcock both of Smithville. Several other nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.

Maggie Birdell Lentz

84 year old Maggie Birdell Lentz of Munford, Tennessee died Saturday at Methodist University Hospital in Memphis. She was a Baptist and was retired from Union Planter's Bank. The funeral will be Monday at 3:30 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Anthony Pelham will officiate and burial will be in the New Union Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the service at 3:30 p.m. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ben Lentz; parents, Reed and Mary Rankhorn Blankenship; two brothers, Paul and Elzie Blankenship; and three sisters, Delma and Nannie Wright and Lola Griffin. She is survived by a son, Bradley Reed Lentz of Munford. A step-son, Joe Lentz of Utah. A sister-in-law, Geraldine Blankenship of Smithville. Several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends also survive. Love-Cantrell Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

87 year old Lorene Parker of Liberty died Wednesday at DeKalb Community Hospital. She was a homemaker and a Baptist. The funeral will be Friday at 1:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Leonard Herman will officiate and burial will be in the Cripps Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Friday from 9:00 a.m. until the service. She was preceded in death by her husband Clyde Parker; her parents, Charlie and Maudie Barrett; and a great niece. Survivors include two sisters, Aline and husband Arron Faulkner of Murfreesboro and Mary and husband Gene Taylor of Statesville. Three nieces, two nephews, three great nieces, six great nephews, five great great nieces, and five great great nephews survive. Love-Cantrell Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Marilyn J. Tague

72 year old Marilyn J. Tague of Smithville died Monday at DeKalb Community Hospital. She was a homemaker. Tague was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Tague and her parents, Austin and Ethel Godfrey Howe. Survivors include four children, Trina Hill and husband Rick Fosnough of Smithville, Raymond Tague of Smithville, Sandra and husband DiBattiste of Kentucky, and Gary and wife Terry Tague of Indianapolis, Indiana. Ten grandchildren and four great grandchildren survive. Love-Cantrell Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. The family has chosen direct cremation.
