Clara L. Schmidt

77 year old Clara L. Schmidt of Smithville died Tuesday at DeKalb Community Hospital. She was a retired factory worker. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert F. Schmidt and a brother, Sonny Martin. Survivors include children, Donna and her husband Gerald Christensen of Nevada, Peter and his wife Carol Schmidt of New Jersey, Alice Knight of Smithville, and Wendy and her husband Jeff Conners of Utah. Grandchildren, Tina Jones, Michael Knight, Christopher Knight, Jason Knight, Afton Brimhall, Landon Conners, Whitney Conners, Dawnmarie "Blais" Gomas; and a brother, Jimmy Martin of Massachusetts. The family has chosen direct cremation. No visitation or services will be held at this time. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.

J.C. Davis

72 year old J.C. Davis of Alexandria died Tuesday at Sumner Regional Medical Center in Gallatin. The body is at Avant Funeral Home in Alexandria where the funeral will be Thursday at 1:00 p.m. Buford Bane will officiate and burial will be in Hillview Memorial cemetery in Alexandria. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until the service time at 1:00 p.m. He is survived by his wife, Leslie Davis of Alexandria. Two sons and daughters-in-law, Whit and Shannon Davis of Alexandria and Brit and Kendra Davis of Carthage. Two grandchildren, Renee McCornack and Leslie Elizabeth Davis. Avant Funeral Home in Alexandria is in charge of the arrangements.

V.L. Wilson

89 year old V.L. Wilson of Smithville died Monday at DeKalb Community Hospital. He was owner/operator of Holmes Creek Boat Dock and a member of the Covenant Baptist Church. The funeral will be Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Bobby Colvert and Danny Fish will officiate and burial will be in DeKalb Memorial Gardens. A Masonic Service will be held Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will be Tuesday from 11:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. and Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. until the service at 1:00 p.m. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Amanda Lewis Wilson; a son, Don Wilson; and a sister, Vera Driver. Survivors include his wife, Callie Fuson Wilson of Smithville. Two daughters, Joyce Ann Hale and Paulette Mooneyham both of Smithville. Six grandchildren, Mark Wilson, Craig Hale, Kevin Wilson, Crystal Tisdale, Kandy Fish, and Tina Young all of Smithville. Eighteen great grandchildren, Byron Puckett, Amanda Wilson, Christen Hale, Nicholas Hale, Heather Dowell, Daniel Wilson, Jenna Wilson, Ryan Sullivan, Matthew Sullivan, John Caldwell, Tiffany Hutchens, Ashley Mooneyman, Andrew Hutchens, Bridget Hutchens, Elizabeth Chalfant, Danny Fish, Jr., and Brandy Fish, and Kayla Fish. Several great great grandchildren also survive. Love-Cantrell Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. The family has asked that all donations please be made to the American Heart Association, in lieu of flowers.

Doyle Phillips

76 year old Doyle Phillips of Brush Creek died Sunday at Alive Hospice Nashville. The body is at Avant Funeral Home in Alexandria where the funeral will be Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. Paul Violet will officiate and burial will be in the Brush Creek Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until the service time at 1:00 p.m. Phillips is survived by his wife of 49 years, Betty Lankford Phillips of Brush Creek. Two sons and daughters-in-law, William and Donna Phillips of Brush Creek and Jerry and Barbara Phillips of Carthage. Grandchildren, Jonah Phillips and Carly Phillips both of Brush Creek. Step grandchildren, Rodney, Nelson, and Tanya Lapointe of Canada and Chris LaPointe of Brush Creek. Memorials may be made to the Mount View Primitive Church in Smithville. Avant Funeral Home in Alexandria is in charge of the arrangements.

Walter Gray Foster

60 year old Walter Gray Foster of Smithville died Saturday night at University Medical Center in Lebanon. He was a member of the Spring Street The Baptist Church, a Mason and member of the Liberty Lodge #77, and he was retired from Carrier. The funeral will be Tuesday at 4:00 p.m. at DeKalb Funeral Chapel. Barry Whittaker, Robert Pollard, and James Wright will officiate and burial will be in DeKalb Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Monday from 10:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. and Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 4:00 p.m. He was preceded in death by his parents, Claude Jackson and Lucille Young Foster; his first wife, Martha Ann Foster; a step-daughter, Vivian Garrison; and a brother, Jimmy Kenneth Foster. Survivors include his wife, Brenda Foster of Smithville. A daughter, Kathy and her husband Kirt Martin of Smithville. A step-son, Tallis and his wife Nancy Cantrell. Grandchildren, Ryan Herron, Shannon and Kim Pirtle, Chad Pirtle, and Talisa Cantrell. Brothers, Claude Eugene Foster of Smithville; Aubrey and his wife Mary Foster of Morris, Illinois; Joe Thomas and his wife Sue Foster of Smithville; and Donald Ray and his wife Linda Foster of McMinnville. A sister, Juanita and her husband Charlie Agee of Smithville. Sisters-in-law, Stacey Foster and Glenda Winchester both of Smithville. Brothers-in-law, Len Gay of Virginia and Ken Gay of Indiana. Paul Emberton

73 year old Paul Emberton of Smithville died Friday at DeKalb Community Hospital. He was a member and deacon of the Sink Creek Missionary Baptist Church. He was also a farmer and a nurseryman. The funeral will be Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at DeKalb Funeral Chapel. Bobby Muncey and George Roberts will officiate and burial will be in the New Union Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday from 4:30 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and Sunday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 2:00 p.m. He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Mary Emberton; brothers, Harvey, Dean, Jessie, and Charlie Emberton; and sisters, Virginia Young, Louise Hendrix, and Jo Barber. Survivors include his wife Helen Cantrell Emberton of Smithville and several nieces and nephews. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements. The family requests that donations be made, in lieu of flowers, to DeKalb Funeral Chapel to help with funeral expenses.

64 year old Troy Lee Edge of McMinnville died Thursday at Stones River Hospital. He was a retired factory worker and a member of the Keltonburg Missionary Baptist Church. The funeral will be Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Lash Rice will officiate and burial will be in the Burton-Ponder Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest Harden Edge, Sr. and Mary Luna Edge; two brothers, Hobert and Roy Edge; and a sister, Nelda Sue Jones. Survivors include his wife, Frances Delores Edge of McMinnville. One daughter, Tammy and her husband Jordan Beddies of Paris, Tennessee. One son, Tony Edge of McMinnville. Four grandchildren, McKella, Matilyn and Brock Beddies of Paris, Tennessee and Aaron Edge of McMinnville. One brother, Ernest, Jr. and his wife Kathy Edge of Smithville. William Arnold Selvey

76 year old William Arnold Selvey of Smithville died Thursday at Centennial Medical Center. He was a retired iron worker with TVA and a member of the Smithville Church of God. A graveside service will be Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at DeKalb Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Friday from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. He was preceded in death by his parents, William Selvey and Elsie Gave. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Shirley Selvey. Five daughters, Yvonne Anderson, Sherry Hensley, Gail and her husband Ronald Baines, Sallie Maples, and Norma Rice all of Smithville. Seven grandchildren, Dana Davis, Corey and Eric Dickens, Jason and Caleb Baines, and Whitney Maples all of Smithville, and Daniel Evans of Georgia. Six great grandchildren. Four sisters, Lois Futch of California, Jean Larsh, Joyce and Lester Thacker all of Michigan, and Evelyn and Dean Buck of Silver Point. One brother, Gary and his wife Clair Selvey of California. Elizabeth Smith

86 year old Elizabeth Smith of Smithville died Monday at the Meadows at Bellevue. She was a member of the Smithville First United Methodist Church and taught Sunday School at the Snow Hill United Methodist Church. She was also a member of the WMU and was a former school teacher in DeKalb County. She and her husband, Othel Smith, owned and operated Smithville Furniture for 55 years. The funeral will be Friday at 1:00 p.m. at the Smithville First United Methodist Church. Terry Little and John Purdue will officiate and burial will be in DeKalb Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Thursday from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at DeKalb Funeral Chapel and Friday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 1:00 p.m. at the Smithville First United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Othel Smith; her parents, Robert and Novella Knowles Pinegar; grandparents, Levi Dodd, Delila Webb Pinegar, Representative John Henry Savage, and Catherine Taylor Knowles; a daughter, Linda Smith; a brother, Ben Pinegar; and a brother-in-law, David Martin. Survivors include a daughter, Pier Vaughn of Franklin. Grandchildren, Shea and Anna Vaughn of Franklin. A sister, Jean Martin of Smithville and a niece, Delila and her husband Phillip Prater of Springfield, Virginia. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements. Donations may be made to the Smithville First United Methodist Church or to Alive Hospice, in lieu of flowers.

95 year old Annie Lee Parsley of Smithville died Thursday at NHC. She was a retired Stanley dealer and a member of the Mount Herman Baptist Church. The funeral will be Tuesday at 1:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Billy Hawkins, Jr. and Chuck Olson will officiate and burial will be in DeKalb Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Monday from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. She was preceded in death by her parents, Vincent Lee and Josie Parker Barnes; husbands, McKinley Baker and Ammon Parsley; four brothers, Otis, Clifton, Solon and Luther Barnes; four sisters, Eller Carter, Janie Carter, Lorene Tramel, and Maudie Pack; and a daughter-in-law, Sarah Hawkins. She is survived by a son, Billy, Sr and his wife Dianne Hawkins of Smithville. Three grandchildren, Billy. Jr. and his wife Trudie Hawkins of Washington State, June Hawkins of Nashville, and Sandy and her husband Mack Harney of Smithville. Four great grandchildren, Sarah and Ben Hawkins of Washington State, John and Jessica Harney of Smithville, and dearest friend Tony Baker of Alexandria. Several nieces, nephew, and family also survive. Love-Cantrell Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. The family requests that donations be made to Mount Herman Baptist Church, in lieu of flowers.
