Letha Mandy Peters

87 year old Letha Mandy Peters of Smithville died Monday at DeKalb Community Hospital. She was a homemaker and a member of the Faith Tabernacle. The funeral will be Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Jerry Braswell and Dwayne Cornelius will officiate and burial will be in Whorton Springs Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. and Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 1:00 p.m. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne Peters; her parents; two sons, Daniel Peters and William Manning; a daughter, Joyce Ann; two sisters, Ruby Summers and Louise Shehane; and two brothers, L.P. and Joe Pedigo. Survivors include four daughters, Amanda Hamilton of Smithville, Linda and her husband Clarence Standridge of Smithville, Elouise Powell of Florida, and Peggy and her husband Donald Minnear of Smithville. Twelve grandchildren, Regina Coley of Florida, Wondell Bolden of Kentucky, Karen Stelmach of Brentwood, Peggy Leonard of Columbia, Eugene Minnear, Tammy Quistgard, Joey Minnear, Ginger Standridge, and Richard Standridge all of Smithville, Renee Hobbs of Beersheeba, and David Smith and Mark Smith both of Morrison. Twenty four great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren. Four sisters, Polly Grace of McMinnville, Geraldean and her husband Lee Nave, and Mable Waggoner all of Smithville, and Ella Miller of Chattanooga. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Love-Cantrell Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Donald Wayne Thomas

42 year old Donald Wayne Thomas of Athens, Alabama and formerly of DeKalb County died Saturday at his residence. He was born in Liberty. He worked at Athens-Limestone Hospital as a Paramedic. He taught EMT at Calhoun Community College. He was an independent dealer for the Clark Vault Company. A graveside service will be Tuesday at 3:00 p.m. at Gatlin cemetery in Athens, Alabama. Visitation will be Tuesday from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at the McConnell Funeral Home in Athens, Alabama. He is survived by his wife, Caprice S. Thomas of Athens Alabama. His son, Jonathon Thomas of Tennessee. His father-in-law, Wallace DeVore of Madison, Alabama. His mother-in-law, Sue DeVore of Madison, Alabama. A sister, Teena Street of Tennessee. An uncle, Ricky Duke of Tennessee. A brother-in-law, Christopher DeVore and his wife Anna of Madison, Alabama. Five nieces, a nephew, a great niece, and several friends also survive. McConnell Funeral Home in Athens, Alabama is in charge of the arrangements.

Elsie Mai Braswell

75 year old Elsie Mai Braswell of Smithville died Monday at DeKalb Community Hospital. She was a retired business owner of Maurice's Family Clothiers, a member of the Smithville First United Methodist Church, and the Busy Bees. The funeral will be Thursday at 11:00 a.m. at DeKalb Funeral Chapel. Terry Little, John Purdue, and Freddy Curtis will officiate and burial will be in DeKalb Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Wednesday from noon until 8:00 p.m. and Thursday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service. She was preceded in death by her parents, Floyd and Norvella Hutchens Hayes. Survivors include her husband of 57 years Maurice Braswell of Smithville. Children, Eddie Braswell of Smithville and Teresa and her husband Kenneth Robinson of Murfreesboro. Two grandchildren, Chloe and Claire Robinson. Two brothers, James Hayes of Smithville and Johnny Hayes of Pegram. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements. The family has requested that donations be made either to the First United Methodist Church Building Fund or the Susan Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, in lieu of flowers.

Willie "Jay" Thomas

70 year old Willie "Jay" Thomas of Dowelltown died Sunday at NHC of Smithville. He was a farmer and a member of the Dry Creek Baptist Church. The funeral will be Tuesday at 1:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Burial will be in Thomas Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 11:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. and Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. He was preceded in death by his parents, Horace and Ada Martin Thomas; two brothers, Willie Eugene Thomas and James E. Thomas; and a sister, Bertha Bennett. Survivors include three brothers, Joe Thomason of Sweetwater and Alfred and Willie Thomas both of Smithville. Three sisters, Retha Frazier of Woodbury, Minnie Murphy of Smithville, and Lou Verna Woodruff of West Virginia. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Love-Cantrell Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

76 year old Nayomia Nokes of Liberty died Friday at NHC Healthcare Center. She was a retired shirt factory worker. The funeral will be Sunday at 1:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Burial will be in DeKalb Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Saturday from 11:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. and Sunday from 9:00 a.m. until the service at 1:00 p.m. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Nokes; her parents, Charlie and Oma Allen; and a sister, Louise Agee. Survivors include a son, Lucion and his wife Mary Nokes of Liberty. Two grandchildren, Jeffery Nokes of Liberty, and Penny and Randy Bouldin of McMinnville. One great grandchild, Justin Nokes of Carthage. One sister, Elizabeth Parkerson of Alexandria. Two brothers, Claude Allen of Liberty and J.C. Allen of Brush Creek. O.D. Keaton

83 year old O.D. Keaton of Old Hickory died Wednesday. He was a member and deacon of the Dowelltown Baptist Church. He was also a U.S. Navy Veteran, an avid HAM radio operator, and a lifetime member of the American Radio Relay League. Keaton was also Chief Chemist for the Water Quality Control Division of the State of Tennessee. The funeral will be Saturday at 10:00 a.m. at the Bond Memorial Chapel in Mount Juliet. Wayne Malone will officiate and burial will be in Salem cemetery in Liberty with full military honors. Visitation will be Friday from 4:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and Saturday one hour prior to the service at Bond Memorial Chapel. He was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Alma Tramel Keaton; his wife, Annie John Keaton; and a son, Hugh Gordon Keaton. Survivors include his children, David Keaton of Fort Worth, Texas; Loretta and her husband Donnie Walker and Brian and his wife Kathy Joann Keaton all of Old Hickory. Grandchildren, Kathryn Keaton, Clay and his wife Jennifer Keaton, Daniel Keaton, Mitchell Keaton, Melodie Keaton, Ladonne Walker, and Deanna and her husband Jason McGill. A great grandchild, Tyler Clay Keaton and step-grandchildren, Richard A. Van Oden and Jeremiah R. Mull. The Bond Memorial Chapel in Mount Juliet is in charge of the arrangements. 86 year old John Paul Vandagriff of Alexandria died Tuesday at DeKalb Community Hospital. The body is at Avant Funeral Home in Alexandria where the service will be Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. Thurman Seber will officiate and burial will be in Salem Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. until the service at 2:00 p.m. He is survived by several nieces and nephews. 79 year old Annie Odell Summers of Dowelltown died Wednesday at Middle Tennessee Medical Center. She was a homemaker. The funeral will be Friday at 1:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Burial will be in Whorton Springs Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 11:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. and Friday from 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. She was preceded in death by her parents, Roscoe and Agnes Buckner Pedigo; two sisters, Frances Bandy and Carrie Inez Pedigo; and four brothers, Aaron, Ed, Norville, and Elsie Pedigo. She is survived by her husband, James Summers of Dowelltown. Two daughters, Barbara Summers of Brush Creek and Brenda Sue and her husband Wayne Petty of Smithville. Two sons, David and his wife Monica Summers of Dowelltown and Eddie and his wife Jean Summers of Watertown. Eight grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild. Three sisters, Kanzada Summers of Dowelltown, Lorene Chasteen of Winchester and Maria Luna of Smithville. One brother, Elvis Pedigo of Smithville and several nieces and nephews. 82 year old O.M. Jackson of Sparta died Tuesday at the Alvin C. York Medical Center in Murfreesboro. He was a member of the Peeled Chestnut United Methodist Church and a U.S. Navy Veteran. Jackson was also a retired carpenter, farmer, and a construction worker. The funeral will be Thursday at 1:00 p.m. at the Peeled Chestnut United Methodist Church. Tommy Davis and Michael Hale will officiate and burial will be in the Peeled Chestnut Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. The body will be taken to the church on Thursday with visitation from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 1:00 p.m. He was preceded in death by his parents, H.W. and Callie Billings Jackson and his wife, Covita Burrus Jackson. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Joe Oakley of Sparta. Two grandsons, Joe Derek Oakley of Smithville, Daren and his wife Tabitha Oakley of McMinnville. Three great grandchildren, Kristen, Mara Jade, and Tavia Oakley. One sister, Polly Park of St. Claire Shoes, Michigan. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.

Survivors include three daughters, Nikki Seale, Priscilla and Tabitha Roberts all of Smithville. One grandson, Isiah Seale of Smithville.
