Daryl L. Testerman
Died: 09/30/2001
SURGOINSVILLE -- Daryl Lee Testerman, age 36, Surgoinsville, died unexpectedly Sunday, Sept. 30, 2001, at his home.

He was born in Kingsport and had lived all of his life in Surgoinsville, Hawkins County. He grew up in the Surgoinsville Freewill Baptist Church and served in the U.S. Marines.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents.

He is survived by his father and mother, Ray E. Testerman and Retha Whitaker Testerman, Surgoinsville; a sister, Brenda Shepherd and husband Dean, Kingsport; five brothers, Dennis Testerman of the home, twin brother Donald Testerman and wife Mary Testerman, Kingsport, Mark Testerman and wife Jennifer, Church Hill, Kevin Testerman and wife Janet, Mountain City, Steven Testerman and wife Sarah, Mountain City; four nieces; five nephews; several cousins, aunts and uncles.

Calling hours will be 4 - 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2001, at Carter-Trent Funeral Home, Church Hill, and any any time at the parent’s home, 117 Ridge Street, Surgoinsville.

Funeral services will be held 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2001, at the Carter-Trent Funeral Home Chapel with Revs. Billy Gragg and Jessie Hartgrove officiating. Music will be provided by the Riverside Quartet.

Graveside services will be held at noon Thursday, Oct. 4, 2001, at Hawkins County Memorial Gardens. Family and friends who wish to attend the service should meet 11:55 a.m. at the cemetery.

Roy D. Miller Jr.
Died: 06/20/2001
SURGOINSVILLE -- Roy Denver Miller Jr., age 64, Surgoinsville, died Wednesday, June 20, 2001, at the Mountain Home VA Hospital and Medical Center following an extended illness.

He was a lifelong resident of Hawkins County and was a retired employee of the Kingsport Press with 30 years of service. He was also a farmer and was of the Christian faith. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in Germany.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy Denver Miller Sr. and Thelma Anderson Miller; a sister, Addie Miller Smith; and a brother, Kelsey R. Miller.

He is survived by his loving wife, Helen Lloyd Miller of the home; a daughter, Thelma R. Miller of the home; four sisters, Eva Higgins, Surgoinsville, Joann Horne, Rogersville, Brenda Morningstar, Dayton, OH, and Linda Hall, Surgoinsville; four brothers, Daniel J. Miller, Church Hill, Jimmy E. Miller, Dayton, OH, Kenneth L. Miller, Rogersville, and Jerry L. Miller, Dayton; and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be 6 - 8 p.m. Friday, June 22, 2001, at Johnson Funeral Home.

Military graveside services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, June 23, 2001, at the Bethel Cemetery with Elder Fred Gilreath and Church Hill VFW Post #9754 officiating.

Johnny C. Caughron
Died: 06/18/2001
EIDSON -- Johnny C. Caughron, age 60, Eidson, formerly of Sevierville, died Monday, June 18, 2001.

He was preceded in death by his father, Harmon Caughron; and brother, Fred Caughron.

He is survived by his wife, Ellaree Hurst Caughron; sons Billy Caughron and Rocky Caughron; mother, Alma Caughron; brothers and sisters-in-law, Troy Gene and Mary Alice Caughron, James and Sherrie Caughron; sisters and brothers-in-law, Mae and Wade Parton, June and Robert Myers, Lucille Williams and Eula Faye Staats.

The family will receive friends 7 - 9 p.m. Wednesday, June 20, 2001, at Atchley Funeral Home, Sevierville.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, June 21, 2001, in the East Chapel of Atchley Funeral Home with Revs. Andy Ball and Doug Messer officiating. Interment will follow in Bethel Cemetery.

Lawrence Luster
Died: 06/17/2001
GREENEVILLE -- Lawrence Luster, age 48, Greeneville, died Sunday, June 17, 2001, at his residence following a brief illness.

He was employed by Nichols Doors and More.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Ella Jane Hughes Luster; and his father, Claude Luster; a brother, Jerry Wayne Luster; and a sister, Betty Sue Luster.

He is survived by his loving wife of nine years, Paula Luster; sisters, Geneva Priddy and husband Kenny, Port Clinton, OH, Katherine Poe and Kelly, Greeneville; brothers, Kenneth "K.D." Luster and wife Betty, Rogersville, Dayton Luster and wife Betty, Kingsport, Truman Luster, Rogersville, Roger Luster, Greeneville; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends 6 - 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 20, 2001, at Colboch-Price Funeral Home, Rogersville, and any time at the residence.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, June 21, 2001, at Brown’s Mountain Baptist Church with Rev. Art Fore officiating. Interment will follow in the Brown’s Mountain Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Mike Luster, Brian Luster, Jerry Luster, Chris Luster, Tim McCracken, Delmer Bailey and Joshua Benton.

Mattie P. Ball
Died: 06/17/2001
SURGOINSVILLE -- Mattie Pearl Ball, age 94, Surgoinsville, died Sunday, June 17, 2001, at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center.

She was a life-long resident of Hawkins County, the last member of the John and Martha Jeffers family of Tarpine Valley. She resided in Surgoinsville for 56 years and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Surgoinsville. She was a member of Charles Dewitt Byrd Veteran of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, Kingsport.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John Oscar Ball; son, George Edward Ball; parents, John C. and Martha A. Jeffers; two sisters, Belle Dora Jones and Magnolia Jeffers; three brothers, Houston Jeffers, Hayes Jeffers and Tillman Jeffers.

She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Clifford and Shirley Ball, Surgoinsville, Kenneth and Joy Ball, Kingsport; a daughter and son-in-law, Virginia and Conner Wagner, Kingsport; grandchildren, Brett Wagner and wife Jenny, Eric Wagner and wife Greta, all of Kingsport, Grindl Wallen and husband Anthony, Rogersville, Kerry Gilreath and husband Brad, Atlanta, GA; great-grandsons, Robert Wagner and Max Wagner, both of Kingsport; step-great-granddaughters, Emily Yates and Kristina Yates, both of Kingsport; several special nieces and nephews; special friend, Patsy Allen; and caregivers, Jewell Lindsey, Shirley Waye and Lorraine Smith.

The family will receive friends 6 - 8 p.m. Tuesday, June 19, 2001, at Colboch-Price Funeral Home, Rogersville, and any time at the residence, 217 Hill St., Surgoinsville. Funeral services will be held 8 p.m. Tuesday, June 19, 2001, at the funeral home chapel with Revs. Carl Jones and Steve Holt officiating. Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 20, 2001, at Highland Cemetery.

Dedrick E. Brewer
Died: 00/01/2042
ROGERSVILLE -- Dedrick E. Brewer, age 68, Rogersville, died Thursday, June 14, 2001, following an extended illness.

He was a member of Hughe’s Memorial Primitive Baptist Church. He was retired from AFG following 28 years of service, was a veteran of the U.S. Army, and was a life-long resident of Hawkins County.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Larkin and Mary Elsie Brewer; two sisters, Cleo Brewer and Lena Frazier; and two brothers, Clinton and Roy Brewer.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley Brewer, Rogersville; a son, Jerry Brewer of the home; three daughters, Kathy Williams, Teresa Lawson and Sandra Williams, all of Rogersville; six grandchildren, Brandee Way, Cristine Bailey, Whitney Lawson, Ezra Helton, Haley Lawson and Jarred Brewer; two great-grandchildren, Kristen Way and Madison Lawson; a sister, Sue Rogers, Rogersville; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends 6 - 8 p.m. Monday, June 18, 2001, at Colboch-Price Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held 8 p.m. Monday, June 18, 2001, at Colboch-Price Chapel with Rev. Jerry Manis officiating. Graveside services will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday, June 19, 2001, at Highland Cemetery.

K. C. Buttry
Died: 05/21/2000
ROGERSVILLE -- K.C. "Joe" Buttry, age 60, Rogersville, died Sunday, May 21, 2000, at Holston Valley Hospital and Medical Center following a brief illness.

He was a member of New Salem Baptist Church. He loved to work with wood and in his garden.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Hattie Buttry; a son, David Buttry; and brothers, Clay Buttry and Guy Buttry.

He is survived by four children, Donna Bishop, Mt. Carmel, Karen Buttry, San Antonio, TX, Michael Buttry, Kingsport, and Danny Buttry, Rogersville; three grandchildren, Noah Buttry, Megan Buttry, and Elizabeth Bishop; seven brothers and sisters, Nervie Seals, Stanley Buttry, Herman Buttry, George Buttry, Randall Buttry, Hazel Lyons, and Ruth Jessee, all of Rogersville; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 24, 2000, at Colboch-Price Chapel with Rev. James Trent officiating. Interment will follow in the Buttry Cemetery.

The family will receive friend from 7 - 9 p.m. Tuesday at Colboch-Price Funeral Home, Rogersville.

Ellen S. Caudill
Died: 05/18/2000
ROGERSVILLE -- Ellen Slone Caudill, age 63, Rogersville, formerly of Knott County, KY, died Thursday, May 18, 2000, at her home.

She was born in Knott County Oct. 9, 1936.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Mearl Caudill; parents, Noah Slone and Cora Slone; two children, Larry Dean and Linda Sue Caudill; four brothers, Dewey, Mitchell, Denver and Cecil Slone; two sisters, Ellie and Lydia Slone.

She is survived by six sons, Rondell, Danny, Bobby, Mearl Jr. and Ricky Caudill, all of Rogersville, and Gary Caudill, Topmost, KY; three daughters, Ruby Cook, Topmost, Shirley Caudill and Sharon Hurley, both of Rogersville; a sister, Luna Slone, Lexington, KY; 24 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Sunday, May 21, 2000, at the Providence Regular Baptist Church, Topmost, with James Cluett Hall, Kelly Slone and Emmitt Slone officiating. Burial will be at the Caudill Family Cemetery, Topmost, with Marion Slone Milburn Slone, Willie Vernon Slone and Jim Pack officiating.

Visitation will be at the church Friday after 6 p.m. and all day Saturday with additional services each evening at 7 p.m.

Arrangements were under direction of Hindman Funeral Service, Hindman, KY.
