KARA ADALENE CHOATE
Funeral services for Mrs. Kara Adalene Choate, 81, of Monroe, were conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday, November 17, 2004, from the chapel of Speck Funeral Home.

Burial was in Wirmingham cemetery with Rev. Randy Thompkins and Rev. Paul Stringer officiating.

Mrs. Choate died Monday, November 15 at Overton County Nursing Home. She was a retired factory worker and a member of First United Penticostal Church.

Born May 27, 1923, in Pickett County, she was the daughter of the late Edgar and Ora Catherine (Garrett) Huckeby.

Survivors include her husband, Donald Choate of Monroe; two sons, Dale Choate and his wife, Virginia, of Cookeville and Myles Choate and his wife, Jackie, of Monroe; four daughters, Brenda Derryberry and her husband, Lanny, of Akron, OH, Deanna Giles of Stockbridge, MI, Debra Cooper and her husband, Jerry, of Livingston, and Teresa Rector and her husband, Donald, of Cookeville; five sisters, Lois Lee of Hilham, Doris Clenney of St. Louis, MO, Lorene Berry of Bethalto, IL; Thelma Breeding of Monroe; and Peggy Smith of the Oak Grove Community of Pickett County; 11 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were Brian Derryberry, Jordy Choate, Jeremy Rector, Tracy Milsaps, Jim Calder, and Jason Calder.

Special care provided by Speck Funeral Home.

PICOLA DEAN DAVIS
Funeral services for Mrs. Picola Dean Davis, 72, of Livingston, were conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday, November 17, 2004, from the chapel of Speck Funeral Home.

Burial was in Okolona cemetery with Rev. Craig Green officiating.

Mrs. Davis died Monday, November 15 at Overton County Nursing Home. She was a housewife and a member of Shiloh United Methodist Church.

Born October 31, 1932, in Overton County, she was the daughter of the late Albert and Nola (Bilbrey) Matthews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Earl V. Davis; and a brother, Clyde Matthews.

Survivors include a daughter, Debbie Maberry and her husband, Curt, of Livingston; a sister-in-law, Peggy Matthews of Mt. Juliet; and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were Carl Lowe, Larry Gunnels, Bobby Matthews, Jeff Davis, Bobby McCoin, and David Dorminey.

Special care provided by Speck Funeral Home.

ANGELA KAY GARRETT
Funeral services for Mrs. Angela Kay Garrett, 39, of Algood, were conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, November 18, 2004, from the chapel of Speck Funeral Home.

Burial was in Overton County Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Garrett died Tuesday, November 16 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. She was a housewife and a member of First Baptist Church in Livingston.

Born October 8, 1965, in Davidson County, she was the daughter of John Warner Halsell of Livingston and Linda Hawkins of Cookeville.

Survivors, in addition to her parents, include a son, Jared Holman of Cookeville; three sisters, Pamela Ledbetter of Rickman, Jenell Mann of Sparta, and Catrina Taylor of Indiana; and her fiancˇ, Kent Bilbrey of Algood.

Pallbearers were Jared Holman, Justin Holman, Robbie Pennington, James Ledbetter, Kenny Clark, and Kirby Clark.

Special care provided by Speck Funeral Home.

GERALDINE (WELLS) GREENWOOD
Funeral services for Mrs. Geraldine (Wells) Greenwood, 76, of Cookeville, were conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, November 20, 2004, at Paran United Methodist Church in Cookeville.

Burial was in Paran cemetery with Bro. David Sauer and Bro. J. Glea Shelley officiating.

Mrs. Greenwood died Thursday, November 18 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. She was a homemaker and a member of Paran United Methodist Church.

Born June 22, 1928, in Overton County, she was the daughter of the late Herman and Mildred (Maynard) Wells. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Darlene Greenwood; and a brother, Douglas Wells.

Survivors include her husband, Sam H. Greenwood of Cookeville; a son, Sam Douglas Greenwood and his wife, Judy, of Cookeville; a brother, Howard Wells and his wife, Betty, of Rickman; a sister, Frances Means and her husband, J.C., of Battle Creek, MI; three sisters-in-law, Virgie Mae Greenwood, Mildred (Greenwood) Jarvis, and Betty Wells, all of Cookeville; two grandchildren, Sam G. Greenwood and his wife, Regina, and Angelia Stamps and her husband, David; and five great grandchildren, Amber Greenwood, Samantha Greenwood, Sam J. Greenwood, Jacob Stamps, and baby Austin Stamps.

Mrs. Greenwood's family and friends served as pallbearers.

Special care provided by Whitson Funeral Home of Cookeville.

HOWARD KENNETH PARSONS
Funeral services for Mr. Howard Kenneth Parsons, 80, of Monroe, were conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, November 15, 2004, at Oak Dale Baptist Church in Monroe.

Burial was in Bethsadia cemetery with Nolan Cantrell, Robert Wright, and Travis Simpson officiating.

Mr. Parsons died Thursday, November 11 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center.

Born November 30, 1923, in Overton County, he was the son of the late Andrew and Lillian (Hicks) Parsons. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Everett Parsons and Glen "Doc" Parsons; and a grandson, Ben Norrod.

Survivors include his wife, Lois Parsons of Monroe; a son, Danny K. Parsons of Mt. Juliet; two daughters, Louise Matthews of Livingston and Sherry Cooper of Monroe; two step-sons, Jerry Choate and David Davis, both of Monroe; two step-daughters, Virginia Kloc of Livingston and Rebecca Williams of Monroe; two brothers, Pete Parsons of Nashville and Andrew "Spud" Parsons of Monroe; and a sister, Wilma King of Monroe.

Mr. Parsons' grandsons served as pallbearers.

GEORGE THOMAS POTEET
Mr. George Thomas Poteet, 72, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, was called to Heaven on Friday, November 12, 2004.

Mr. Poteet was born in Algood on August 31, 1932, to the late Sam Denton and Berilla (Holladay) Poteet. His brothers, Robert Poteet and Sam H. Poteet, preceded him in death.

Survivors include his loving wife, Betty Ruth (Gooch) Poteet; three devoted children, Debbie Poteet, Penny Poteet, and Phillip Poteet; four adoring grandchildren, Molly Poteet, Madelyn Poteet, Thomas J. Poteet, and Burke Carey; a son-in-law, Chris Carey; a daughter-in-law, Emy; a brother, John Poteet; a sister, Doris Alford; and several nieces and nephews.

George and Betty were married June 12, 1954, and resided in Cookeville most of his life. They were members of Cookeville First United Methodist Church and later Algood United Methodist Church. George was instrumental in the renovation of Algood United Methodist Church, which is now on the Historical National Register.

George served honorably in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict. After he returned from service, he attended Tennessee Tech University.

He was the owner of Poteet Insurance and Associates, Inc. in Cookeville for 20 years and was a real estate and property developer.

He retired, and he and his wife enjoyed their time camping and travelling. Later, he resumed work with Tennessee State Park system as a facility specialist in charge of all campgrounds in the State Park system. Mr. Poteet was active in many civic and community organizations such as Adjutant American Legions Post 46, Cookeville Jaycees, Cookeville Rotary Club, United Givers Fund, Upper Cumberland Boy Scouts, Big Brothers, First Aid Instructor for American Red Cross, Religious Heritage Foundation, very active in POW-MIA nationally, politically active in local and state elections, and volunteered as Santa Claus anytime he was needed.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Jude's Hospital in Memphis or a charity of the donor's choice.

JAMES EARL RHODES
Memorial services for Mr. James Earl Rhodes, 64, of Monroe, were conducted at 1 p.m. Sunday, November 21, 2004, at Barnes Ridge Church of Christ with Bro. Don Lane officiating.

The family chose cremation.

Mr. Rhodes died Thursday, November 18 at Livingston Regional Hospital. He was a retired supervisor for the Eaton Company in Barberton, OH, served in the United States Army during the 1960s, and was a member of the Barberton VFW.

Born May 4, 1940, in Roane County, WV, he was the son of the late Earl and Justine (Carpenter) Rhodes. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Billy Rhodes.

Survivors include a very special companion, Elda Ward of Monroe; a sister, Joyce J. Dinger of Barberton; special friends, Bob and Mildred Lane of Monroe; and nieces, nephews, and other family members and friends.

Special care provided by Livingston Funeral Home.

EDITH ELOISIE (ROBBINS) SMITH
Funeral services for Mrs. Edith Eloisie (Robbins) Smith, 89, of Byrdstown, were conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday, November 13, 2004, from the chapel of Brown Funeral Home.

Burial was in Gunnertown cemetery with Bro. Ricky Cross officiating.

Mrs. Smith died Wednesday, November 10 at Livingston Regional Hospital. She was a retired factory worker and a homemaker who spent most of her life in Pickett County. She was a member of United Baptist Church in Gunnertown.

Born May 9, 1915, in Pickett County, she was the daughter of the late Lafayette Brandford "Fate" and Mary Ellen (Robbins) Robbins. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Allard Smith; a son, Donald Smith; a brother, Cecil Robbins; and three sisters, Oshie Robbins, Vonnie Smith, and Hattie Wright.

Survivors include a son, David Smith of Nashville; three daughters, Delta Smith and her husband, Levi, of Byrdstown, Doris Copeland of Nashville, and Diana Hummel and her husband, M.B., of Anderson, IN; a brother, Kenneth Robbins of Cincinnati, OH; three sisters, Mae Baker of Byrdstown, Elise Winningham of Omaha, NE, and Delphie Smith of Cincinnati; 10 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, and other family members; and a host of friends.

Pallbearers were Chris Masiongale, Gary Masiongale, Ted Masiongale, Mike Schabach, Robert Carr, Michael Maddux, and Josh Lillard.

Special care provided by Brown Funeral Home.

EARL D. CARTER SR.
Funeral services for Mr. Earl D. Carter Sr., 77, of Anderson, IN, were conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, November 1, 2004, at Middletown Church of the Nazarene Family Center.

Burial was in Miller cemetery in Middletown, IN, with Pastor David Whitteberry officiating, assisted by Dr. Philip C. Rogers.

Mr. Carter went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Saturday, October 30. He worked for General Motors Delco Remy for 40 years, was an avid gardener, a member of the UAW Local 662 of Anderson, a member of Middletown Church of the Nazarene, and a World War II veteran.

Born December 28, 1926, in Livingston, he was the son of the late Earl T. and Hattie Ann (Garrett) Carter. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Joe Carter, Larry Carter, Robert Carter, and Gerald Carter; and a sister, Wanda Knoblock.

Survivors include his wife of 41 years, Gloria A. (Stevenson) Carter of Middletown; a daughter, Mary A. Vernon and her husband, Bob, of Noblesville, IN; two sons, Earl D. Carter Jr. of Middletown and James Earl Carter and his wife, Judy, of Livingston; three sisters, Genieve Ramsey of Livingston, Mavis Bilbrey of Ingalls, IN, and Carlene Knoblock of Anderson; three grandsons, Jason Carter and Travis Carter, both of Livingston, and Damon R. Smith of Noblesville; several nephews, nieces, and cousins; and a special neighbor and friend, Jerry Gibson of Middletown.

Memorial contributions may be made to Middletown Church of the Nazarene building fund.

ORGIE L. COX
Funeral services for Mrs. Orgie L. Cox, 86, of Cookeville, were conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, November 8, 2004, from the chapel of Speck Funeral Home.

Burial was in Good Hope cemetery with Bro. Steve Thorton officiating.

Mrs. Cox died Friday, November 5 at Livingston Regional Hospital. She was a housewife and a member of Rickman Baptist Church.

Born February 5, 1918, in Putnam County, she was the daughter of the late Dillard and Sallie (Ashburn) West. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sons, Arlow Cox and Billy Cox.

Survivors include five sons, Russell Cox of Cookeville, James Cox of Rickman, and Bobby West, Walter Cox, and Horace Cox, all of Livingston; a daughter, Jean Auberson of Rickman; two step-sons, Layton Cox of Hilham and Tom Cox of Glasgow, KY; three step-daughters, Willowdean Ball and Lula Barker, both of Livingston, and Marie Cox of Cookeville; 16 grandchildren; and 19 great grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Jeffery Auberson, Mark Auberson, Donnie Auberson, Andrew Cox, Jason Cox, Roger West, Cordell West, and Ricky Bean.
