JOHN B. HOOKS
Funeral services for Mr. John B. Hooks, 78, of Sulphur Springs, IN, were conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday, August 19, 2004, from the chapel of Main & Frame Funeral Home in New Castle, IN.

Burial, with full military rites conducted by American Legion Post 137 and VFW Post 1282, was in South Mound cemetery in New Castle with Rev. Dan Ashner officiating.

Mr. Hooks died Wednesday, August 15 at Regency Place in Greenfield, IN. Retired from Wilson Grain in Sulphur Springs after about 30 years of service, he was Sulphur Springs town marshall for several years and had worked for 15 years at Pendleton Reformatory. He was a member of American Legion Post 137 in New Castle and Sulphur Springs Lions Club. He was a past member of Sulphur Springs Town Board and Volunteer Fire Department.

He also served in the United States Army during World War II. Metals he received included two Purple Hearts, a Bronze Star, a Silver Star, and several others.

Born October 2, 1925, in Livingston, he was the son of the late George and Anna Lee (Brown) Hooks.

Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Erlzie (Logan) Hooks; two daughters, Anna Whisman of Greenfield and Bonnie Hunt of Fishers; a brother, Tom Hooks of Indianapolis, IN; two grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

LOUVERNA MATTHEWS
Funeral services for Mrs. Louverna Matthews, 92, of Livingston, were conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, September 9, 2004, at Okolona Methodist Church in Rickman.

Burial was in Okolona cemetery with Rev. Michael Ledbetter officiating.

Mrs. Matthews died Monday, September 6 at Masters Health Care Center in Algood. She was a factory worker and a member of Okolona United Methodist Church.

Born November 16, 1911, in Overton County, she was the daughter of the late Chester and Minnie (Gore) Neal. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Sim Matthews; a son, Howard Matthews; a daughter, Bobbie Buck; two sisters, Bertie Reid and Dean Reid; and a brother, Will Neal.

Survivors include a daughter, Ruth Poston and her husband, James, of Algood; a daughter-in-law, Eunetta Matthews of Livingston; a son-in-law, Artie Buck of Indiana; a brother, Homer Neal of Rickman; a sister, Eva Swallows of Rickman; four grandchildren, Cynthia Summers, Sharon Oakley, Vickie Matthews, and Melanie Dial; and six great grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Chase Dial, Mark Dial, Bill Smith, Chad Oakley, Hoyet Matthews, and Hagard Matthews.

JOHN HARRIS RINGLEY JR.
Funeral services for Mr. John Harris Ringley Jr., 65, of Livingston, were conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, September 10, 2004, from the chapel of Speck Funeral Home.

Burial, with full military honors conducted by James T. Davis Memorial Post 5062 Honor Guard, was in Green Hill cemetery with Rev. Ovle Tinch officiating.

Mr. Ringley died Tuesday, September 7 at his home. He was a Merchant Marine, a veteran of the United States Navy, and a member of John B. Garrett Masonic Lodge. He was of the Baptist faith.

Born August 23, 1939, in Overton County, he was the son of the late John Harris Sr. and Lora Efpha (King) Ringley.

Survivors include a son, John Harris Ringley III of Livingston; a daughter, Lora Harvey of Livingston; and a granddaughter, Phoebe Harvey of Livingston.

Pallbearers were Ben Hicks, Jim Butler, Michael Davidson, Jimmy Davidson, Spencer Curd, and David Ricketts.

GEORGE B. "KING GEORGE" SCANTLAND
Funeral services for Mr. George B. "King George" Scantland, 59, of Livingston, were conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, September 11, 2004, from the chapel of Livingston Funeral Home.

Burial was in Mt. Gilead cemetery with Bro. Ricky Cross and Bro. Marlon Winningham officiating.

Mr. Scantland died Wednesday, September 8 at Livingston Regional Hospital. He was a factory worker and considered a plain, simple man who liked to hunt, fish, and loved and enjoyed his family.

Born November 6, 1944, in Jackson County, he was the son of Geraldine (Ayers) Scantland of Livingston and the late Lawton H. Scantland.

Survivors, in addition to his mother, include his wife, June Scantland of Livingston; three sons, Steven Auberson of Hilham and Timmy Scantland and Scotty Scantland, both of Livingston; two daughters, Melissa Hicks of Jamestown and Kim Scantland of Cookeville; two sisters, Carolyn Huffer of Monroe and Joyce Savage of Livingston; three grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and other family members and friends.

Pallbearers were Billy Buck, Donnie Buck, Brandon Savage, Bud Coffman, C.E. Vaughn, and Jackie Watkins.

Special care provided by Livingston Funeral Home.

SHENEA DAWN WRIGHT
Funeral services for Miss Shenea Dawn Wright, 26, of Allons, were conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday, September 8, 2004, from the chapel of Livingston Funeral Home.

Burial was in Fellowship cemetery with Bro. Ricky Cross officiating.

Miss Wright died Monday, September 6 at her home. She was a homemaker.

Born November 23, 1977, in Overton County, she was the daughter of Leonard and Linnie (Reagan) Ray of Allons. She was preceded in death by her grandfathers, Lester Ray and Elbert Reagan; and an uncle, J.B. Reagan.

Survivors, in addition to her parents, include her grandmothers, Betty Ray of Allons and Dollie Reagan of Cookeville; two brothers, Kenny Ray of Allons and Allen Ray of Mt. Juliet; three sisters, Phoenicia Melton of Allons, Kim Smelcer of Cookeville, and Tammy Hunter of Crawford; a nephew; a niece; and a special friend, Bobby West of Allons.

Pallbearers were Brian Emberton, Shaun Emberton, Shane Ray, Randy Vaughn, C.E. Vaughn, and Rick Lee.

TOLLIE R. WHITED
Funeral services for Mr. Tollie R. Whited, 64, of Livingston, were conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, July 14, 2003, from the chapel of Jennings Funeral Home in Jamestown. Burial was in Wright cemetery with Bro. Eugene Wright and Bro. James Clayborn officiating.

Mr. Whited died Friday, July 11 at Livingston Regional Hospital. He was a construction worker and attended WrightÕs Chapel Church.

Born March 5, 1939, he was the son of the late Jacob and Mary Jane (Adkins) Whited. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Odell Whited and Willie Whited; and two sisters, Edna Cooper and Ressie Whited.

Survivors include his wife, Linda (Wright) Whited of Livingston; a daughter, Rebecca Whited of Livingston; a son, Greg Whited and wife, Donna, of Rickman; three brothers, James Whited, Otto Whited, and Ward Whited, all of Muncie, IN; three sisters, Roselle Whited of Jamestown and Barbara Erlene Crump and Lillie Law, both of Muncie.

Pallbearers were Scott Wright, Steve Wright, Kyle Wright, Jared Wright, Greg Crump, Ronald Cooper, Mark Linder, Jason Wright, Michael Wright, Joe Wright, Nathaniel Linder, Ronnie Smith, and James Eugene Crump.

SARAH (QUALLS) WILLIAMSON
Funeral services for Mrs. Sarah (Qualls) Williamson, 79, of Alpine, were conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 15, 2003, at Livingtston First United Methodist Church. Burial was in Green Hill cemetery with Rev. Craig Green officiating.

Mrs. Williamson died Sunday, July 13 at Livingston Regional Hospital. She was an office assistant with FarmerÕs Home Administration and a member of Livingston Eastern Star, the Civitian Club of Livingston, and Livingston First United Methodist Church.

Born August 25, 1923, in Overton County, she was the daughter of the late Milton James and Lula (Myers) Qualls. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dow Williamson Sr.; a sister, Eudean Belt; and four brothers, James Qualls, Noel Qualls, Joe Pat Qualls, and Herman Qualls.

Survivors include a son, Dow Williamson Jr. of Cookeville; a daughter, Vicki Williamson of Monroe; two brothers, Charles Floyd Qualls Sr. of Livingston and Myers Qualls of Columbus, GA; a grandson, Dustin James Williamson; and her caregiver, Linda Massey.

SHARON INEZ (PIPPIN) JOHNSON
Funeral services for Mrs. Sharon Inez (Pippin) Johnson, 55, of Cookeville, were conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, November 17, 2003, at Union Hill Church of Christ.

Burial was in Union Hill Flatt cemetery with Jimmy Anderson officiating.

Mrs. Johnson died Friday, November 14 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center.

Born May 31, 1948, in Jackson County, she was the daughter of the late James Losier Pippin and Mabel (Stewart) Pippin Moore. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Danny Moore; an infant sister, Judy Ann Pippin; and an infant grandson, Matthew Lee Johnson.

Survivors include three sons, Daniel Eugene Johnson of Cookeville, Sean Johnson of Florida, and Mark Johnson of Michigan; a daughter, Tammy Johnson of Michigan; five sisters, Eva Sullivan and Effie Pippin, both of Cookeville, Margaret Bandy and Tresea Moore, both of California, and Debra Shepard of Florida; four brothers, James L. "Peanut" Pippin of Monroe, Dale Moore and David Moore, both of Michigan, and Richard Moore; an uncle, J. Fred Pippin of Baxter; three aunts, Lucille Suggs Flatt of Cookeville, and Stella Birdwell and Bulah Birdwell, both of Bloomington Springs; nine grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Pallbearers were Brandon Hargis, Rodney Hargis, Larry Elmore, Wayne Hayes, Vernon Johnson, and William Harris.

NORA CARRIE LEMING
Funeral services for Mrs. Nora Carrie Leming, 92, of Lenior City and formerly of Monterey, were conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday, November 20, 2003, from the chapel of Goff Funeral Home in Monterey.

Burial was in Welch Memorial cemetery in Monterey with Rev. Eugene McCowan officiating.

Mrs. Leming died Monday, November 17 at NHC Health Care Center in Oak Ridge. She was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith.

Born August 14, 1911, in Ironsburg, she was the daughter of the late Francis Marion and Nancy Lou (Carter) Brannon. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Marion "Buster" Leming; a son, Arville Leming and his wife, Lorene; a daughter, Elega Goff; a granddaughter, Victoria Flatt; and a grandson, Billy Leming.

Survivors include a daughter, Sharon Schaich and her husband, Chuck, of Lenior City; a son, Lee Leming and his wife, Betty, of Monterey; a brother, Dink Brannon of Woodsfield, OH; eight grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; and four great-great grandchildren.

MARY ESTIE (HOLMAN) NEWBERRY
Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Estie (Holman) Newberry, 102, of Monroe, were conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, November 21, 2003, at Free Communion Church of Christ in Monroe.

Burial was in Sells cemetery with Bro. Glen Ledbetter, Bro. Danny Russell, and Bro. Lloyd Holman officiating.

Mrs. Newberry died Tuesday, November 18 at her home. She was a farmer, a homemaker, and a member of Free Communion Church of Christ.

Born February 9, 1901, in Overton County, she was the daughter of the late Andrew J. and Rebecca Jane (Sells) Holman. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ammie Newberry; two brothers, Grant Holman and Floyd Holman; two sisters, Nova Holman and Audra Holman; and four nephews, Bedford Holman, David Holman, Lester Holman, and Milburn Holman.

Survivors include eight nieces and nephews, Mildred (Holman) Sells of Algood, Edward Holman of Nashville, Lloyd Holman of Wilson, NC, Robert Holman of Sparta, J.D. Holman of Cookeville, Lucille (Holman) King of Springfield, OH, Orpha (Holman) Metzger of Huntsville, AL, and Paul Holman of Kansas City, MO; and many great nieces, great nephews, and cousins.

Pallbearers were Lloyd Holman, Edward Holman, J.D. Holman, Robert Holman, Randy Holman, and Donnie Holman.

Mable (Ray) Allen
Mable (Ray) Allen went home to be with the Lord on her 82nd birthday Friday, Feb. 7, 2003. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and faithful member of Hilham Road Freewill Baptist Church.

Preceding her in passing were her parents, Andrew and Mattie Ray of the Poplar Springs Community; her husband, Doyle Allen; two sisters, Delphia Jones and Nadine Bowers; and two brothers, Claude Ray and Fred Ray.

She is survived by brother Omer Ray and wife Pat of West Carrolton, OH; daughter Sharon Marsee and husband Don of Livingston; two grandchildren, Theresa Romzek and husband Ron of Livingston; Don Marsee Jr. and wife Kimberly of Thompson's Station; and five great grandchildren, Scott Romzek, Rachel Romzek, Cody Marsee, Justin Marsee, and Makala Marsee.

Services were held Monday, Feb. 10 at 11 a.m. at Whitson Funeral Home. Pallbearers were Johnny Hammock, Anthony Hammock, Joe Moody, Donald Moody, Mark Evans, and Larry Hull.

Lois Jeanette Belcher
Funeral services for Mrs. Lois Jeanette Belcher, 73, of Monroe, were conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 6, 2003, from the chapel of Cole and Garrett Funeral Home in White House. Burial was in Halltown Cemetery.

Mrs. Belcher died Tuesday, Feb. 4. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ammon "Sammy" Belcher; and two brothers, George Brinkley and Edell Brinkley.

Survivors include three daughters, Joyce Choate, Sarah Conner, and Sandra Defoe; three sons, Thomas Belcher, Sammy Belcher, and Lee Belcher; 16 grandchildren; and several great grandchildren.

Mrs. Belcher's grandsons served as pallbearers. Special care provided by Cole and Garrett Funeral Home.
