Joel R. Coggins Jr., 46, Knoxville, Tenn.
KNOXVILLE - Joel R. Coggins Jr., 46, 1821 Dunraven Drive, died Sunday (Nov. 30, 2003) at Fort Sanders Park West Hospital in Knoxville, Tenn.

A native of Washington County, Tenn., he was the son of Joel Reuben Coggins, Sr. and Carrie Rigsby Coggins.

Mr. Coggins was a member of Grace Brethren Church, Limestone, Tenn. He was purchasing agent for Y-12 Federal Credit Union in Oak Ridge, Tenn. Mr. Coggins played basketball at Daniel Boone High School in Gray, Tenn., and was an avid Dallas Cowboys football fan.

He was preceded in death by maternal grandparents, Charlie and Myrtle Rigsby and paternal grandparents, John and Rhoda Coggins.

In addition to his parents, survivors include his wife, Marsha Greene Coggins, of the home; three daughters, Holly Nicole Falin of Limestone, Tenn., and Carlie Grey Coggins and Linde Madison Coggins, both of the home; two sisters, Pamela K. Deakins of Jonesborough, Tenn., and Annie A. Barnes of Johnson City, Tenn.; a brother, Berry S. Coggins of Gray, Tenn.; and two granddaughters, Laney Paige Falin and Macey Elaine Falin, both of Limestone, Tenn.; several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in the Sunrise Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Services, Johnson City or at the residence of his parents, Joel and Carrie Coggins, 105 Pond Hill Road, Jonesborough, Tenn. or the residence of a daughter, Holly Nicole Falin, 1198 Bowman Town Road, Limestone, Tenn., at anytime.

Services will be conducted at 8 p.m. Wednesday in the Sunrise Chapel with Pastor Steve Pate and Mr. Don Lewis officiating.

The committal service and entombment will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday at Washington County Memorial Gardens Mausoleum Chapel. Those who plan to attend the committal service are asked to meet at the mausoleum chapel at 10:50 a.m.

Honorary pallbearers will be Joe Barnes, David Deakins, Shannon Chase, Greg Greene, Andrew Lewis, Neil Miller, Gary Greene, Landon Deakins, and Thomas Wade Falin.

Those who prefer memorials in lieu of flowers may make donations to Muscular Dystrophy Association, P.O. Box 6408, Knoxville, Tenn. 37919.

Tetrick Funeral Services, 3001 Peoples Street, Johnson City, Tenn. 37604 (423-610-7171) is in charge of arrangements for the Coggins family.

Rev. Denver Dean, 81, Wise, Va.
WISE, Va. - Rev. Denver R. Dean, 81, passed away Monday (Dec. 1, 2003) at his home.

A lifetime resident of Wise County, he was the pastor of several Freewill Baptist churches in the area, the last being Bethel Chapel, was a retired coal miner from the Old Ben Coal Co. Dixiana Mines, a member of the UMWA, a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army and was the recipient of the Bronze Star.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty R. Dean; a granddaughter, Hannah Renee' Murray.

Surviving are one son, Denver Richard (Ricky) Dean Jr. of Wise, Va.; three daughters, Dennis Castle of Big Stone Gap, Va., Wilma Harlow of Sharpsburg, Ga., and Billie Schoenfeld of Bean Station, Tenn.; one brother, Ray Dean of Norton, Va.; two sisters, Georgia Chisenhall of Wise, Va., and Ruth Craft of Payne Gap, Ky.; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Calling hours will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today at Sturgill Funeral Home, Wise, Va.

Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Eddie Sturgill and the Rev. Roger Freeman officiating.

Burial will follow in the Wise Cemetery, Wise, Va.

Linda Frazier, 58, Rogersville.
ROGERSVILLE - Linda Frazier, age 58, of 104 Flora St., passed away, Saturday (Nov. 22, 2003) at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center.

She was a minister and member of Deliverance Holiness Church in Rogersville.

She is survived by her husband, Wade Frazier of the home; two sons, Marty Frazier of Greeneville and Michael Frazier of Bulls Gap; daughter, Tammy Frazier of Rogersville; three grandsons and three granddaughters; brother, James Collins of Bulls Gap; two sisters, Regina Lloyd of Bulls Gap, Ruth McCoy of Belvidere, Ill.; special niece, Vivian McMillan of Sycamore, Ill.; and several other nieces and nephews.

Graveside service was held Wednesday at Phillipi cemetery in Bulls Gap.

Memorial contributions may be made to Wade Frazier or Tabernacle of Deliverance Holiness Church, 104 Flora St. Rogersville, Tenn. 37857.

Virginia F. Goodwin, 74, Kingsport.
KINGSPORT - Virginia Frances Goodwin, 74, passed away 5:35 a.m. Sunday (Nov. 30, 2003) in the Indian Path Medical Center.

Virginia was born in Kingsport, March 25, 1929 and was the daughter of William Noah and Annie J. (Overbay) Roberts.

She was a member of the Tabernacle Lord of Jesus Christ Church. She was the widow of James Wilkinson and Haskel Kenner Goodwin. She was a loving mother and grandmother and will be sadly missed.

Virginia is survived by her family, Elizabeth Frias and Betty Billheimer, both of Kingsport, Louise Cole of Jonesborough, Jean Lewis of Richmond, James Wilkinson and Donald Wilkinson, of Jonesborough; 15 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; sisters, Mary Overbay, Marie Taylor, Lily Ramey and Norma Noel, all of Kingsport; brothers, David and Joseph Roberts, both of Kingsport; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the East Lawn Funeral Home.

Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home chapel with Reverend Johnny Persinger officiating.

Graveside and burial will follow in the East Lawn Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers will be family and friends.

East Lawn Funeral Home is serving the Goodwin family.

Sarah Hampton, 98, Pound, Va.
POUND, Va. - Sarah Ellen Hampton, 98, went home to be with the Lord Sunday (Nov. 30, 2003) at Norton Community Hospital, Norton, Va. with her family by her side.

She was a homemaker and of the Freewill Baptist faith.

Sarah was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She was a pillar of the family and will be greatly missed.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Delmar Hampton; a daughter, Flossie Boggs; her parents, Floyd and Sedellia (Hounshell) Back; five sisters, Emily Davidson, Ida Frazier, Eva Gillespie, Iva Hampton and Samantha Holland; and four brothers, Chester Back, Henry Wise Back, Alfred Back and Clebert Back.

Surviving are her daughters, Freeda Adams, Pound, Va., Coleda Sturgill, Ermine, Ky., and Lucille Branham, Fredericksburg, Va.; sons, Floyd Hampton, Myrtle Point, Ore., and Eugene Hampton, Pound, Va.; 12 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren and 27 great-great-grandchildren; brother, Elbert Back, Rockford, Ill.; several nieces and nephews; and a host of friends and loved ones.

Calling hours are from 3 to 9 p.m. today at Baker Funeral Home, Pound, Va., with a song service at 7 p.m.

Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday in the Sadie Baker Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with the Rev. Verdell Sturgill, the Rev. Jimmie Hubbard and the Rev. Lloyd Mullins officiating.

Burial will be at Flat Gap Cemetery, Pound, Va.

Pallbearers will be her grandchildren.

Paul Hurd, 88, Kyles Ford, Tenn.
KYLES FORD, Tenn. - Hawkins County Color Guard will conduct military honors for Paul Hurd, 88, Route 2, Box 209, Fisher Valley Road, who passed away Saturday (Nov. 29, 2003) at 11 a.m. today in the Hurd cemetery in Kyles Ford.

Colboch-Price Funeral Home, Rogersville, is in charge of the arrangements.

Fern Kilgore, 85, Kingsport.

Graveside services for Fern Bond Kilgore, 85, formerly of Nickelsville, Va., who passed away Saturday (Nov. 29, 2003) will be conducted at 11 a.m. today at Nickelsville Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be grandsons and great-grandsons, David Kilgore, Mark Kilgore, Michael Johnson, Dustin Dobbs, Daniel Kilgore and Harrison Bell.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Alzheimers Foundation Northeast Tennessee Chapter, 207 North Boone St., Suite 1050, Johnson City, Tenn. 37604 or to the Nickelsville cemetery Fund, c/o Harry Broadwater, P.O. Box 333, Nickelsville, Va. 24271.

Laura Ann Lawson, 66, Rogersville.
ROGERSVILLE - Laura Ann Lawson, 66, passed away at her home Sunday (Nov. 30, 2003) after a brief illness.

Laura was a faithful member of McKinney's Chapel Baptist Church and was a loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George Lawson; mother, Jeanette Seymore; father, David Seymore, Sr.; brother, David Seymore, Jr.; sister, Brenda Hilton; father-in-law, G.W. Lawson; sisters-in-law, Patsy Lawson, Ruby Hite; grandson, Jeremy Wayne Lawson; brothers-in-law, Charlie Bill Hicks and Dennis Hilton.

She is survived by her daughters, Trish Sorah and husband, Keith of Rogersville, Peggy Lee and husband, Gary of Mt. Carmel; sons, Jerry W. Lawson and wife, Peggy, Mike Lawson and wife, Cindy all of Rogersville; grandchildren, Susan and Jeff Ausband of Kingsport, Josh and Amanda Sorah of Surgoinsville, Jason Lawson, Aaron and Ashley Lawson, Erica Lawson, all of Rogersville, Joey Wilder of Greeneville, Amber Sorah, Katie Lawson, Zachary Lawson all of Rogersville; sisters, Charlene Hicks, Doris and Jack Jones, Wanda and Freddie Lee, Nella and L.D. Lipe; brothers, R.J. and Barbara Seymore, Jerry and Brenda Seymore, all of Rogersville, John and Sharon Seymore of Surgoinsville; brothers-in-law, Henry and Tempie Lawson of Kingsport, James Lawson of Church Hill; mother-in-law, Dorothy Lawson of Church Hill; a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, cousins and friends.

Calling hours will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today at Christian-Sells Funeral Home or anytime at her residence.

Services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday at McKinney's Chapel Church with Rev. Neil Drinnon officiating.

Mrs. Lawson will be taken to the church one hour prior to the service.

Interment will follow in McKinney's Chapel Cemetery.

Rev. Hubert Overbay, 87, Kingsport.
KINGSPORT - Rev. Hubert W. "Preacher" Overbay, 87, passed away Sunday (Nov. 30, 2003) at Brookhaven Manor following a brief illness.

He was a lifelong resident of Sullivan County and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Rev. Overbay was an ordained Methodist minister, having served at numerous churches in the Kingsport area for more than 30 years, and was a member of Orebank Independent Methodist Church. He was employed as an electrician at Tennessee Eastman Co. for 32 years retiring in 1980.

Preceding him in death were his wife, Bonnie Goins Overbay; parents, Edward Lee and Lula Hite Overbay; two sisters, Anna Mae Wagner, Beulah Lee Goins; and five brothers, Claude, Jay, Paul, Edward, and Donald G. Overbay.

Surviving are one daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and James "Buddy" Alley, Kingsport; one son and daughter-in-law, Jere B. and Judy Ratcliffe, Jacksonville, Fla.; six grandchildren, Delores Brickey, James Alley Jr., Marlena Horne, Christina Bellamy, Susan Kaynor, Brian Ratcliffe; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours are 6 to 8 p.m. today at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, downtown Kingsport.

Services will be conducted at 8 p.m. today in the funeral home chapel with Dr. Grady L. Lee and the Rev. Lewis Weaver officiating.

Graveside services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday at East Lawn Memorial Park.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Luke United Methodist Church Heating Fund, 2600 Center St., Kingsport, Tenn. 37664.

Mildred Potts, 81, Blountville.
BLOUNTVILLE - Services for Mildred Mize Potts, 81, who died Sunday morning (Nov. 30, 2003) will be conducted at 8 p.m. today at the First Baptist Church of Blountville with Dr. Clay Austin officiating.

Calling hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the church.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at East Lawn Memorial Park in the Garden of The Good Shepherd.

Memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church of Blountville, P.O. Box 117, Blountville, Tenn. 37617.

Reba Scott, 89, Kingsport.
KINGSPORT - Reba I. Scott, 89, formerly of Mount Carmel, passed away Sunday (Nov. 30, 2003) at Wexford House following a lengthy illness.

She was born near Kingston, Tenn., attended Radford College, and graduated from Milligan College. Mrs. Scott taught in the Scott County Virginia School System and later in the Hawkins County School System until her retirement. She was a Baptist.

Her parents, Claude and Stella Scott; two sisters, Alma Morelock and Mildred Elliott; and a niece, Myra Gottsche, preceded her in death.

Surviving are two cousins, Vena Bernard, Kingsport, Sam Bernard, Chattanooga; one niece, Amy Miele, Atlanta, Ga.; and one nephew, Scott Gottsche, New Orleans, La.

Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, downtown Kingsport.

Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at East Lawn Memorial Park with Pastor J. W. Depew officiating.

Iva Small, 85, Kingsport.
KINGSPORT - Iva Ray Wilson Small, age 85 of Kingsport and a longtime former resident of Athens, died early Monday morning (Dec. 1, 2003) at Wexford House of Kingsport.

She was the daughter of the late James Carl and Estelle Rowland Wilson and was preceded in death by her husband, John Hixson Small.

She was a member of Pleasant View Baptist Church in Kingsport and a former member of East Athens Baptist Church.

She and her late husband owned and operated Small's Drive-in Restaurant in Athens for many years.

Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, Dean and Ann Small of Kingsport; two stepsons and wives, Bill and Hannah Small of Hampton, Va., and Jim and Frances Small of Johnson City; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; one sister, Willie Mae Elrod of Riceville, Tenn.

The body will be in state at Jerry Smith Funeral Home, Athens, Tenn., after 2 p.m. today where the family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m.

Services will be conducted at 7 p.m. today in the chapel of the funeral home with Rev. Pete Mullins officiating.

Family and friends will meet at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Cedar Grove cemetery for the interment service.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons and nephews.
