Florene Virginia Jones Null
Florene Virginia Jones Null 69 of Walling, TN., passed away Saturday, April 1, 2000, at the Cookeville Regional Medical Center.
Null was born October 1, 1930 in Sparta, TN., and the daughter of Arthur Roosevelt Jones and Mary Jane Winnett Jones. She was a retired Cosmetologist and a homemaker.
Services were held Monday, April 03, 2000, at the Hunter Funeral Home with the burial at the Oaklawn Cemetery. Fate Wilson officiated.
She was preceded in death by her father, Arthur B. Jones and one brother, Harold D. Jones
Survivors include her mother, Mary Jane Jones of Sparta; her husband, Willard Null of Walling; one daughter; Mary Ruth Eller of Sparta; one son Richard null and wife Lois of Eagleville, TN; two sisters Betty Bain of Georgia, and Carolyn Billings of Sparta; one brother, Cloyd Jones of Sparta; three grandchildren, Jake Null and Kari Null of Eagleville, TN, and Christopher Eller of McEwen, TN; one great-grandson, Blake Eller of McEwen, TN.
In Lieu of flowers make donations to the American Diabetes Association.
Hunter funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Dan Bonner Hudgens
Dan Bonner Hudgens 63 of Sparta, TN passed away Sunday, April 2, 2000, at his residence.
Hudgens was born September 20, 1936 in Sparta, TN, the son of Horace Arthur and Mary Redding Bonner Hudgens. He was retired for the United AirLines.
Services were held Tuesday, April 4, 2000 at the Hunter Funeral Home with the burial at the Mt. Gilead Cemetery. Kenneth Kirby officiated. In lieu of flowers make donations to Lazarus House Hospice of Cookeville, TN.
He was preceded in death by his father, Horace Arthur Hudgens.
Survivors include his wife, Pat Hudgens of Sparta; one son, Miles Hudgens and wife Mary Jo of Pennsylvania; mother Mary Redding Hudgens of Sparta; two sisters, JoAnne Hudgens Paz of McMinnville, and Jane Griffin of Sparta; several cousins, nieces and nephews.
Hunter Funeral Home was in charge of the flowers.

Lena H. Smith
Lena H. Smith 87 of Sparta, TN, passed away Sunday, April 2, 2000, at the NHC of Smithville, TN.
Smith was born April 23, 1912 in White County, TN, the daughter of Robert Gather Howell and May Lou Carter Howell. She was a homemaker
Services were held Tuesday, April 4, 2000, at the Thurman Funeral Home chapel with the burial at the Elrod Cemetery. Brother Danny Bandy officiated.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and May Howell; one infant daughter; three brothers, Frank Howell, Walter Howell, and Carl Howell; three sisters, Della Goodwin, Ora Lee Rogers, and Jessie Wilson.
Survivors include her husband, Walter Smith of Sparta; one son Earl Smith and wife Von Smith of Sparta; two daughters, Polly Gibson and husband Jim of Sparta, and Joyce Whiteaker and husband Terry of Sparta; three granddaughters, Tammy Hensley and husband Mark, Marla Price, and Emily Smith; one grandson, Baron Smith; one great-grandson, Eri Price; one step grandson Steve Randolph; one step-granddaughter Teresa Dill; one brother Bud Howell of Loudon, TN; five sisters, Vennis Seabolt, of Sparta, Katie Stoglin of Sparta, Lillie Bullock of Cookeville, Minnie Fisher of Ohio, and Sue Sherrod of Florida.
Thurman Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

William Barnett Powell, Sr.
William Barnett Powell, Sr. 82 of Sparta, TN, passed away Tuesday, April 4, 2000, at the White County Hospital.
Powell was born September 14, 1912 in White County, TN the son of Doc Powell and Kate Dunn Powell. He served in the Army in WWII. He was the elder of Sparta Hardware, served as the Deacon of the Central Church of Christ, and was a member of Sparta Ciritan Club.
Services were held Thursday April 6, 2000, at the Central Church of Christ with the burial at the Highland Cemetery. Brother Charles Myers and Brother Don Burns officiated.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Doc and Kate Powell; one brother, Elmer Powell; one sister, Elizabeth Sapp; and one granddaughter Jessica Powell.
Survivors include his wife, Ellen Swindell Powell of Sparta; one daughter and son-in-law, Cathy Frye and Tom of Ringgold, GA; four sons and daughters-in-law, Barnett Powell, Jr. and Glenda of Huntsville, AL, Bob Powell and Jamie of Nashville, TN, Donald Powell and Robbie of Cookeville, TN, and Ronnie Powell and Janice of Sparta; five sisters, Elsie Rackley and Bill Bohannon of Sparta, Ann Ray of Cookeville, Ruth Glover of Elizabethton and Juanita Austin of Sanford, FL; two brothers Paul Powell of Sparta, and Jim Powell of Elizabethton; 12 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, donations made to Church of Christ Mission Fund.
Thurman Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Clayton Neal Groves
Clayton Neal Groves, 67, of Rock Island passed away Thursday, June 8, 2000.
Groves was born on December 8, 1932, in Van Buren County, the son of Richard Clifton Groves and Gertie Lou Hillis. He was a retired factory worker. He was a member of the Church of Christ and fought in the Korean War.
Services were Saturday, June 10, 2000, in High’s Chapel with burial in Mt. View Cemetery. Titus Ward and Newton Gribble officiated.
Survivors include wife, Jewell Groves of Rock Island; son, Dale Groves of Rock Island; two daughters and son-in-laws, Carla and Tommy Savage of Rock Island; Janice and Mike Stubblefield of McMinnville; four grandchildren, Brandon, Kendra and Daniel Savage and MaKayla Stubblefield.
High Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Claude Sandy Lance
Claude Sandy Lance, 83, of Doyle passed away Saturday, June 10, 2000 in National Health Corporation.
Lance was born November 1, 1916, in White County, the son of Frank and Mary Jane Baker Lance.
Services were Monday, June 12, 2000 in Hunter Funeral Home with burial in Saylors Cemetery. Fate Wilson officiated.
Lance was preceded in death by wife, Merty Beatrice Lance, and son, Billy Joe Lance.
Survivors include two grandchildren, Marty Lance of Sparta; Billy Joe Lance, Jr. of Sparta; nine sisters, Edna Knowles of Doyle; Maureen Looney of Sparta; Willie Ray Harris of Sparta; Betty McGee of NC; Ruth Marshall of Sparta; Linda Williams of Sparta; Jeraldine Johnson of Doyle; Mary Stamps of Sparta; Darlene Lance of OH; brother, Tim Lance of GA; and great-grandson, Marty Lance Jr. of Sparta.

Odie Pearl Green
Odie Pearl Green, 73, of McMinnville passed away Saturday, June 10, 2000, in St. Thomas Hospital.
Green was born February 22, 1927, in AL, the daughter of Robert Morton and Rosie Lee Whitworth. She was a housewife.
Services were Monday, June 12, 2000, in High’s Chapel with burial in Smyrna Cemetery. Donald Owens and Mike Rhea officiated.
Green was preceded in death by two brothers, John H. and Paul Morton; three sisters, Doris Elizabeth Watts, Minnie Lucille green and Peggy Sue Bowdoin.
Survivors include husband, Noel Green of McMinnville; two daughters, Charlotte Green Stalcup of McMinnville; Elaine Rambo of McMinnville; one sister, Ruby Seals of WA; two brothers, Robert Earl Morton of McMinnville; Allen Trail Morton of Smithville; four grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
