Emily Ruth Barlow, 85, Bradenton, Fla.
BRADENTON, Fla. - Emily Rush Barlow, 85, died Sunday (Nov. 28, 2004) at Blake Medical Center, Bradenton, Fla..

Miss Barlow was a native of Knoxville, a former resident of Johnson City and had lived in Bradenton, Fla., for the past several years.

She was a daughter of the late James Stanley Barlow Sr. and Emily Taylor Miller Barlow and was also preceded in death by two sisters, Jean Barlow Parks and Grace Barlow.

Miss Barlow is survived by one brother, Dr. J. Stanley Barlow Jr., Leonia, N.J.; and one sister, Sanna Barlow Rossi, Bradenton, Fla.A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. today at Oak Hill Cemetery, Johnson City. The Rev. J. Stanley, Jr. will officiate.

Family and friends are asked to assemble at the cemetery.

Morris-Baker Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Johnson City, is serving the family.

Jimmie Brewer, 71, Mendota, Va.
MENDOTA, Va. - Mr. Jimmie Lawrence Brewer, 71, died Tuesday (Nov. 30, 2004) at the home of his son.

Born on June 21, 1933 in Washington County, Va., Jim was a son of the late John Wilson Brewer and Mary Hall Brewer. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Nettie Thomas; and brothers, Dewey Brewer, Clyde Brewer, and Junior Brewer.

Jim was a devout Christian and was a lifelong farmer.

Survivors include his wife, Violet Whaley Brewer; a son, Stephen "Doc" Brewer and a very special daughter-in-law, Brenda Brewer of Abingdon; a daughter, Catherine Widener of Bristol, Va.; three brothers, Charlie Brewer of Abingdon, Donald Brewer of Lebanon, Va., and Paul Brewer of Bristol, Tenn.; four grandchildren, Shawn Brewer, Ryan Brewer, April Mahoney and Amanda Blevins; also surviving are nine great-grandchildren.

Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Farris Funeral Service, Abingdon, Va.

Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday in the Main Street Chapel of the funeral home with the Rev. Sam Haynes officiating.

Interment will follow in the Cedar Grove cemetery in Mendota.

Casket bearers will be Shawn Brewer, Bryan Brewer, Brandon Mahoney, Virgil Wise, Butch Murray, Johnny Wardle, Vernon Helton and Sherman Pippin.

Honorary casket bearers will be Charlie Whaley, Darrell Kern, Creed Dye, and his friends and neighbors of the Mendota community.

Flowers will be accepted or memorial donations may be made to the Wellmont Hospice House, 208 Steeles Road, Bristol, Tenn. 37260.

Debbie Carden, 45, Duffield, Va.
DUFFIELD, Va. - Services for Debbie Lynn Clark Carden, 45, who went to be with the Lord on Monday (Nov. 29, 2004), will be conducted at 8 p.m. today in the Holding Funeral Home Chapel, Big Stone Gap, Va., with the Rev. Rick Phillips and the Rev. Frank Mullins officiating.

Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Committal services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Barker cemetery in the Crackers Neck community of Big Stone Gap, Va. Family and friends will meet at 10:20 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home to go in procession to the cemetery.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Lucille Christian, 85, Church Hill.
CHURCH HILL - Lucille Christian, 85, 789 Christians Bend Road, passed away Monday (Nov. 29, 2004) at her residence following an extended illness.

Mrs. Christian was a lifelong resident of Hawkins County and was a member of Christians Bend Free Will Baptist Church. She was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil Christian; her parents, James and Isabelle Dykes Caldwell; sisters, Frankie Kincheloe, Ruth Christian and Willie Smith; stepson, Demas Christian; and son-in-law, Dwayne Arnold.

Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, Dayton and Bernice Christian, Kingsport; two stepsons and stepdaughters-in-law, Harold and Earline Christian, Anthony and Penny Christian, all of Church Hill; two stepdaughters and stepson-in-law, Shelby and Truman Curtis, Surgoinsville, Linda Arnold, Church Hill; stepdaughter-in-law, Freda Christian; two grandsons, Scott and Joey Christian; 12 stepgrandchildren, Daniel, Scott, Tim and Shane Christian, Lora Merrill, Melissa Taylor, Amy Vaughan, Rhonda McNally, Tammy Weaver, Steven Smith, Joey Arnold and Rebecca Lester; four great-grandchildren, 19 stepgreat-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be conducted at 10 a.m. today at Christians Bend Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Joey Arnold, R. Scott Christian, Joey Christian, J. Scott Christian, Michael Christian, Tim Christian and Butch McNally.

ROGERSVILLE - Graveside services for Fred G. Davis, 77, who passed away Sunday (Nov. 28, 2004), will be conducted at 11 a.m. today at Big Creek Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Pete Alvis, Bill Foster, Ronnie Linkous, Scott Fields, Chris Funk and Ken Byrd.

Virgie Edens, 83, Kingsport.
KINGSPORT - Virgie Edens, 83, of Kingsport, passed away Tuesday evening (Nov. 30, 2004) at Indian Path Medical Center following a brief illness.

Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Oak Hill Funeral Home.

Tommy E. Fitzgerald, Gray.
GRAY - Tommy E. Fitzgerald, 316 Cherry St., Gray, passed away on Sunday (Nov. 28, 2004) at the Johnson City Medical Center after an extended illness.

He was a native of Washington County, Tenn., and had lived most of his life in the Gray community. He was the son of the late George and Catherine Chandler Fitzgerald.

Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Jean Fitzgerald of Gray; three sons, Nathan and wife Leah Rogers, Jamie Rogers, and Shawn Fitzgerald, all of Gray; one sister, Jenny Fitzgerald of Elizabethton; and one grandson, Austin "A.J." Rogers; special friend, Chris McLain; and special sister-in-law, Mary Presnell.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. today in Washington County Memory Gardens. The family requests those attending to meet at the cemetery.

Pallbearers include Bill Rogers, Ray Presnell, Jimmy Chandler, Lawrence Winegar, Stanley Webb and Glen Hall.

Honorary pallbearers will be Galen Fitzgerald, Paul Stills, Dennis Gilmore and Gale Jones.

Betty Gillenwater, 74, Gate City, Va.
Graveside services for Betty Gillenwater, 74, Gate City, Va., who entered into rest Sunday (Nov. 28, 2004), will be conducted at 11 a.m. today at Holston View Cemetery, Weber City, Va.

Pallbearers will be family and friends.

Family and friends will meet at 10:15 a.m. at the funeral home to go in procession to the cemetery for graveside services.

Gertrude Gillenwater, 89, Gate City, Va.
GATE CITY, Va. - Gertrude "Trudy" Gillenwater, 89, passed away Monday (Nov. 29, 2004) at Indian Path Medical Center.

She was born in Scott County on June 29, 1915, the daughter of the late K.M. and Pearl Quillen Lane. She was a homemaker.

Mrs. Gillenwater was a member of Gate City United Methodist Church.

She was a loving wife, mother, and sister.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest L. Gillenwater in 1987; brothers, Herman Quillen Lane and Claude W. Lane. Surviving are her daughter, Debra Gillenwater, Gate City; several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Gate City United Methodist Church.

Services will be conducted at the church at 7 p.m. with the Rev. Dale Wyrick officiating.

Graveside services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Holston View Cemetery. The family will meet at the funeral home at 10:30 a.m. to go in procession to the cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers will be Justin Hensley, Walter Cassell, Richard Gillenwater, Sam Gillenwater, Terry Gillenwater, Terry Porter, Jerry Palmer, Chris Bayer.

In memory of Gertrude Gillenwater, memorial contributions may be made to Gate City United Methodist Church, 103 E. Walnut St., Gate City, VA 24251 or charity of one's choice.

William H. Harrison, Kingsport.
Funeral mass for William H. Harrison, Kingsport, who passed away at home Wednesday (Nov. 24, 2004), will be celebrated at St. Dominic's Catholic Church at 1 p.m. today.

Burial will be at 12 noon Thursday in the family plot at Edgewood cemetery in Knoxville.

The family would like to thank TLC Home Care Services, especially Louise Vaughn, Jamie Gilliam, Clayton and Eulala Arnold, Phoebe Kerns, Ethel Bowlin, Joan McLain, Stacey Stokes, and Emily DeFord, Drs. Eric Schwartz, Jeff Vaughan and Rick Dickson, the fifth floor nursing and support staff and the Respiratory Therapy staff at Wellmont Holston Valley Hospital as well as Wellmont Home Health Care and Quality Care Ambulance Service for all their care and support over the years of Bill's illness.

Graveside services for Lesley (Les) Hartgrove, 56, of Kingsport, who departed this life to be reunited with his mother and father on Saturday (Nov. 27, 2004) will be held at 11 a.m. today in the Hermon United Methodist church cemetery. Family and friends are asked to meet at the cemetery at 10:45 a.m.

Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends.

BAILEYTON - Grace Holland Jones, 83, a lifelong resident of Baileyton, departed from this life on Monday (Nov. 29, 2004) at her residence after an extended illness.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Baileyton.

Mr. and Mrs. Jones and Mr. and Mrs. Woolsey eloped together on Nov. 29, 1939.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Rex Jones; father and mother, "Bertie" and Maude Dunn Holland; brother, Ray Holland; and sister, Stella Neal.

Surviving are a devoted daughter and son-in-law, Nancy Jones Bolton and Waylon D. Bolton of Baileyton; loyal grandchildren and their spouses, Kimberly Bolton and Alan Gass of Greeneville, Wesley D. and Mollie Bolton of Rogersville; very special great-grandchildren, who were the joy of her life, Zachary Gass and Grace Gass of Greeneville, Cooper Bolton and Britton Anne Bolton of Rogersville; sister and brother-in-law, Helen Woolsey and Charles McCurry of Lost Mountain; four sisters-in-law, Mary Holland and family of Knoxville, Alene Jones and Frances Jones of Sullivan Gardens, Edna Lucas and family of Chuckey; aunts, Sally Grubbs and Nella Mae Morelock, both of Greeneville; special nephews who were like sons to her, Tommy Woolsey of Atlanta, Ga., Bill Woolsey and wife Sue of Greeneville, Barry Jones and wife Terry of Gate City, Va.; several other dear nieces and nephews; special lifelong friends, J.B. and Emma Ruth Woolsey of Greeneville; special friends and neighbors, Stella Gray and daughter, Shirley Vines.

Graveside services will be conducted at 10 a.m. today in the Zion cemetery at Baileyton with the Rev. David Tydings officiating.

Pallbearers will be Zachary Jones, Quinton Jones, Wesley Bolton, Alan Gass, Bill Woolsey, Tommy Woolsey, John Woolsey and Barry Jones.

Honorary pallbearers will be Lowell Lucas, James Turnmire, Walter Turnmire, Dr. Charles Montgomery, Dr. Umasankar Ramadoss, Skippy Holland and Dr. A.K. Sen.

Services for William M. "Bill" Maynard, 64, Colonial Heights, who died unexpectedly at his home at 1500 hours (3 p.m.) Saturday (Nov. 27, 2004), will be conducted at 11 a.m. today at Colonial Heights Presbyterian Church with the Rev. J. Thomas Phillips officiating.

Burial will follow at East Lawn Memorial Park.
