Fred G. Davis, 77, Rogersville.
ROGERSVILLE - Fred G. Davis, 77, passed away Sunday (Nov. 28, 2004) at Church Hill Healthcare and Rehab Center after an extended illness.

He was of the Protestant faith and a retired carpenter.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew J. and Gracie F. Davis; two brothers, App Davis and A.J. Davis; and one sister, Mickie Williams.

Surviving are two brothers, Bill Davis and George Davis, both of Mount Carmel; one sister, Juanita Housewright of Church Hill; stepdaughter, Mandy Benton of Rogersville; several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Colboch-Price Funeral Home, Rogersville.

Services will be conducted at 8 p.m. today in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Jay Davidson officiating.

Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Big Creek Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Pete Alvis, Bill Foster, Ronnie Linkous, Scott Fields, Kris Funk and Ken Byrd.

Nancy Hobbs Durham, 78, Kingsport.
KINGSPORT - Nancy Hobbs Durham, 78, Kingsport, went to be with her Master Sunday (Nov. 28, 2004) after a lengthy illness.

Born in Hiltons, Va., Mrs. Durham was an employee at Eastman and F.H. Woolworth and a homemaker for 49 years.

Nancy was an avid reader. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, who truly enjoyed her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John Wesley Hobbs and Hattie Lee Crumley; seven sisters, Fannie Hobbs McCrary, Monnie Hobbs Mullins, Elsie Hobbs Barry, Lacy Hobbs Beam, Lucille Hobbs Judd, Bernice Hobbs Sparks, and Edith Hobbs; and four brothers, Robert Lee Hobbs, William Hobbs, John W. Hobbs II, and Samuel W. Hobbs.

Surviving are her husband of 49 years, Denver D. Durham; two daughters, Jean Childress and husband, Gene, of Eastern Shore, Va., and Joy White and husband, Jim, of Rossville, Ga.; five grandchildren, Rob Childress, Shane Childress, Tonya Willett, Bill Adams, and Brett Adams; eight great-grandchildren; one sister, Gerthel Hobbs Harris; and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be conducted at 12 noon today at Oak Hill Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be Bill Adams, Brett Adams, Oscar Harris, Darell Carr, Randy Durham, Gary Lowe, and Jerry Durham.

Honorary pallbearers will be Bill Durham, Cecil Craft, Carl Durham, Bob Thomas, and Jim Orrick.

Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport, is in charge of arrangements.

Tommy E. Fitzgerald, Gray.
GRAY - Tommy E. Fitzgerald, 316 Cherry St., Gray, passed away on Sunday (Nov. 28, 2004) at the Johnson City Medical Center after an extended illness.

He was a native of Washington County, Tenn., and had lived most of his life in the Gray community. He was the son of the late George and Catherine Chandler Fitzgerald.

Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Jean Fitzgerald of Gray; three sons, Nathan and wife Leah Rogers, Jamie Rogers, and Shawn Fitzgerald, all of Gray; one sister, Jenny Fitzgerald of Elizabethton; and one grandson, Austin "A.J." Rogers; special friend, Chris McLain; and special sister-in-law, Mary Presnell.

Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Gray Funeral Home.

Services will be conducted at 8 p.m. today in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Jason "Bo" Castle officiating.

Graveside services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. in Washington County Memory Gardens. The family requests those attending to meet at the cemetery.

Pallbearers include Bill Rogers, Ray Presnell, Jimmy Chandler, Lawrence Winegar, Stanley Webb and Glen Hall.

Honorary pallbearers will be Galen Fitzgerald, Paul Stills, Dennis Gilmore and Gale Jones.

Pearl Forbes, 93, Kingsport.
Graveside services for Margaret Pearl Pettigrew Forbes, 93, Kingsport, who went to be with the Lord Saturday (Nov. 27, 2004), will be conducted at 11 a.m. today at East Lawn Memorial Park.

Honorary pallbearers will be Verlin Overbay, Paul Borisuk, and Charles Chandler.

Memorial contributions may be made to Tri-Cities Baptist Church Building Fund, 171 Promise Land Drive, Gray, TN 37615.

Betty Gillenwater, 74, Gate City, Va.
GATE CITY, Va. - Betty Gillenwater, 74, entered into rest Sunday (Nov. 28, 2004) at her residence.

Mrs. Gillenwater was an active member of First Baptist Church, Nickelsville, Va. She was a volunteer in Christian Social Ministries, Midway community.

She was born Aug. 26, 1930 in Scott County, Va., to the late William Jasper and Zina Victoria Crook Kendrick.

Including her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon Gillenwater in 1988; daughter, Candaca Lea Gillenwater; sisters, Nina Faye Lane, Estella Kendrick McCracken, Emma Ella Kendrick, Laura Kendrick Campbell and Norma Kendrick Pendleton; two brothers, Mode and John Jeff Kendrick.

Survivors include daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and Clayton McDavid, Gate City, Va.; sons and daughters-in-law, Justin and Donna Gillenwater, Martin and Linda Gillenwater, both of Gate City, Va.; sisters, Helen Gillenwater, Gate City, Va., Kate Strong, Bristol, Va. and Gertrude Hite, Kingsport; brother, William J. Kendrick Jr., Weber City, Va.; grandchildren, Autumn Lee, Luke Kendrick, Chelsea Rachel, Jordan Mackenzie Gillenwater, Kandra Noel McDavid; several nieces, nephews and many friends; special caregivers, Rhonda Gillenwater, Gate City, Va., Dr. Wesley V. Eastridge and wife, Joy, Gate City, Va.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Gate City Funeral Home.

Services will be conducted at 8 p.m. today in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with the Rev. Steve Collins officiating.

Music will be provided by Rev. Johnny Kendrick and Jack Troutman.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Holston View Cemetery, Weber City, Va.

Pallbearers will be family and friends. Family and friends will meet at 10:15 a.m. at the funeral home to go in procession to the cemetery for graveside services.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests those who wish to make donations in Mrs. Gillenwater's name to First Baptist Church, Nickelsville, Va. or Tri-Cities ALS Support Team, P.O. Box 1124, Kingsport, Tenn. 37662.

Gertrude Gillenwater, 89, Gate City, Va.
GATE CITY, Va. - Gertrude (Trudy) Lane Gillenwater, 89, passed away Monday (Nov. 29, 2004) at Indian Path Medical Center.

Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by Colonial Funeral Home, Weber City, Va.

William H. Harrison, Kingsport.

Funeral mass for William H. Harrison, Kingsport, who passed away at home Wednesday (Nov. 24, 2004), will be celebrated at St. Dominic's Catholic Church at 1 p.m. Wednesday.

Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Hamlett Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport.

A Christian wake prayer service will follow at 8 p.m.

Friends are welcome to visit the family at home as well.

Burial will be at 12 noon Thursday in the family plot at Edgewood cemetery in Knoxville.

The family would like to thank TLC Home Care Services, especially Louise Vaughn, Jamie Gilliam, Clayton and Eulala Arnold, Phoebe Kerns, Ethel Bowlin, Joan McLain, Stacey Stokes, and Emily DeFord, Drs. Eric Schwartz, Jeff Vaughan and Rick Dickson, the fifth floor nursing and support staff and the Respiratory Therapy staff at Wellmont Holston Valley Hospital as well as Wellmont Home Health Care and Quality Care Ambulance Service for all their care and support over the years of Bill's illness.

Lesley (Les) Hartgrove, 56, Kingsport.
KINGSPORT - Lesley (Les) Hartgrove, 56, of Kingsport, departed this life to be reunited with his mother and father on Saturday (Nov. 27, 2004) at the UT Medical Center in Knoxville following a brief illness. He will be truly missed by his wife and best friend, Charlotte.

Les was a lifelong resident of Kingsport and had worked at Eastman for over 25 years. He was a sergeant in the Army serving in the motor pool in Texas and Korea. Les loved to work on his antique cars.

Mr. Hartgrove was preceded in death by his parents, Mack and Marie Hartgrove.

Survivors include his loving wife of nearly 36 years, Charlotte Osborne Hartgrove; a brother, Arthur Lee "Art" Hartgrove; two nephews, Brandon Hartgrove and wife, Tammy, and Jason Hartgrove and wife, Miranda; a great-nephew, who was the love of Les' life, Jacob Hartgrove; ex-sister-in-law, Brenda Sue Hartgrove; two brothers-in-law, Larry Osborne and wife Diane and Roger Osborne and friend, Nina Arwood; his loving pet, "Peanut"; and special friends, Ronnie Minga and Candy Naff, Dallas and Bobbie Shoun, Mitch Jessee, Ivan Phipps and Tom Kiser.

Calling hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Oak Hill Funeral Home.

Services will follow at 8 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Freddie Robinette and Pastor Joe Hill officiating.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Hermon United Methodist church cemetery. Family and friends are asked to meet at the cemetery at 10:45 a.m.

Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends.

William M. Maynard, 64, Colonial Heights.
COLONIAL HEIGHTS - William M. "Bill" Maynard, 64, Colonial Heights, died unexpectedly at his home at 1500 hours (3 p.m.) Saturday (Nov. 27, 2004).

Born in Paterson, N.J., he received a BS degree from Philadelphia University, formerly Philadelphia Textile, and came to Kingsport in 1962 as a textile chemist with Eastman. He later worked in the WasteWater Treatment Plant and retired from the Safety Department.

Bill served as past-president of Warriors Path Volunteer Fire Department, past chairman of the HAZMAT Subcommittee and the Sullivan County Integrated Emergency Preparedness Council. Bill was administrator for Northeast Tennessee's Critical Incident Stress Management.

He refereed in all levels of local soccer including recreational, high school, college, and state. He served as an officer in soccer. Bill also served other various volunteer and civic organizations.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William Benz and Margaret Maurer Maynard.

Surviving are his wife of 41 years, Carolyn Hammond Maynard, of the home; one daughter, Lora Maynard Simpson and husband, Jerry, of Sparta, Tenn.; one son, Kent Quillen Maynard and wife, Kim Lanford Maynard, of Kingsport; three grandchildren, Shaina Lanford, Patrick Lanford, and Jaden Maynard; one sister, Andrea Cassel and husband, Wendel, of Newark, Del.; one brother, Winfield Maynard and wife, Gail, of Warwick, N.Y.; two nephews, Michael Cassel and Robert Maynard; and one niece, Rebecca Maynard Cortese and husband, Marc.

Calling hours are from 6 to 9 p.m. today at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, Kingsport.

Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Colonial Heights Presbyterian Church with the Rev. J. Thomas Phillips officiating.

Burial will follow at East Lawn Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be the members of Warriors Path Volunteer Fire Department and the Tri-Cities Soccer Referees Association.

Eugene Miller, Kingsport.
KINGSPORT - Eugene Miller passed away on Sunday (Nov. 28, 2004) at Wellmont Hospice House.

He was born Aug. 14, 1921 to Andy and Nannie Taylor Miller in Scott County, Va. He moved to Kingsport in 1946 and worked 39 years at Mead Paper, retiring in 1985.

He was a member of Lynn Garden Baptist Church and served in the Navy during World War II.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Andy and Nannie Taylor Miller; three brothers, Otto Miller, Omer Miller and Clyde Miller; two sisters, Blanche Wheatley and Roxie Miller.

Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Nova Jennings Miller; two sons, Larry Miller of Kingsport and Scott Miller of Mount Carmel; daughter, Lisa Mintz of North Brook, Ill.; one granddaughter, Rachel Mintz of North Brook, Ill.

Calling hours are from 9 to 10 a.m. Wednesday at Oak Hill Funeral Home.

Services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Homer Roller officiating.

Graveside services will follow funeral services in the Oak Hill Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be Joe Stallard, Don Mann, Wayne Patterson, Jim Austin, Coy Kindle and Jack May.

Karl David Morgan, 44, Kingsport.
KINGSPORT - Karl David Morgan, 44, of Kingsport, passed away Friday (Nov. 26, 2004) as a result of injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident.

Karl was born in Pittsburgh, Pa., and had been a resident of Kingsport since 1981. He was employed as a mechanic with Joy Mining and Machinery.

He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Morgan in 2000.

Surviving are his wife, Kathy L. Morgan; two sons, Kyle Morgan and Kory Morgan, all of the home; his mother, Marion Morgan of Lake Worth, Fla.; a sister and brother-in-law, Kimberly Massung and husband John of Sebastian, Fla.; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Kenneth Morgan and wife Peggy, and Kurt Morgan and wife Nancy, all of Trafford, Pa.; his mother-in-law, Mrs. Jean Styles of Church Hill; two nieces, Elaine Massung and Stacie Morgan; a nephew, Nathan Morgan; and several aunts and uncles.

Entombment services will be at 1 p.m. today at Oak Hill Mausoleum with the Rev. Greg Street officiating. Family and friends are asked to meet at the cemetery at 12:45 p.m.

Pallbearers will be Ken Bowling, Colin Green, Ron Balthis, Ken Flanary, Greg Vicars and Jeff Colley.

Carter-Trent Funeral Home, downtown, is serving the Morgan family.
