Meta King, 103, Jefferson City, Tenn.
JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. - Meta King, 103, of Jefferson City, and formerly of Knoxville, passed away at 7:30 a.m. Sunday (Feb. 27, 2005) at Jefferson County Nursing Home.

Mrs. King was one of, if not the oldest member, of Bearden Central Baptist Church, where she served as Sunday School teacher for many years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John L. King; and by a grandson, David Alan Hobbs.

Survivors include a daughter, Betty Hobbs and her husband, Rev. Charles C. Hobbs of New Market; a nephew whom she raised, Dr. Roy A. Dobyns and wife Kathryn of Jefferson City; a niece, Dorothy Parham and her son, Carl Robert Parham and wife Kay, of Knoxville; a granddaughter, Rebekah McCown and her husband Tim and their sons, Andrew and Adam, of Cartersville, Ga; grand-nieces and nephews, Roy Dobyns Jr. and wife Robin, of Asheville, N.C., and their children, Katy and Kyle, John Dobyns and wife Carol, of Raleigh, N.C., and children, Jessica and Kayla, and Joe Dobyns and wife Donna, of Jefferson City, and children, Trey and Carly Jo.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Farrar Funeral Home, Jefferson City, Tenn.

Services will be held at 8 p.m. today at the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Charles Hobbs, the Rev. Roy Dobyns Jr. and Andrew McCown officiating.

Family and friends will gather at 2:45 p.m. Tuesday at the gate of Lynnhurst cemetery to proceed to the gravesite for a 3 p.m. interment service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the David A. Hobbs Scholarship Fund, c/o Carson-Newman College, Jefferson City, TN. 37760.

Dr. Jack Nolen, 74, Oklahoma.
OKLAHOMA - Dr. Jack Richard Nolen, 74, died on Jan. 14, 2005 in an airplane accident in Eastern Oklahoma. He was found on Feb. 14, 2005.

He was a private pilot for many years and had recently returned to flying, which he loved so much.

He was born in Alexander City, Ala. He lost his own father in an accident at the age of four, yet worked hard and eventually earned his way to a B.S. degree at Alabama Polytechnic Institute (now Auburn) in 1951 and then an M.D. degree at the University of Alabama in 1955.

After an internship and residency, he served two years in the U.S. Navy Medical Corps Reserve in the Naval Hospital in Key West, Fla.

In 1962, he began more than 20 years of private practice in obstetrics and gynecology in Gadsden, Ala. In the later years of his medical practice, he relocated to Philadelphia, Pa., Aberdeen, Wash., and Louisburg, N.C. In the 1990s, he changed careers to be in hospital administration working in Newark, N.Y., and finally as Medical Director at Muskogee Regional Medical Center in Muskogee, Okla. He retired Jan. 1, 2005 although was continuing to work part time.

As a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church, he was a faithful Christian who never let his talents go to waste. He was most recently volunteering at the Good Shepherd Health Clinic and a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church in Muskogee, Okla.

Jack Nolen always treasured his family and was a loving father, grandfather and faithful husband.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Thirwell Murfee Nolen and Cleona Black Nolen; by his eldest son, Norman Edward Nolen; by his oldest brother, Thirwell Murfee Nolen Jr.; and by his first wife, Suzy Bernell Gray Nolen.

He is survived by sons, Thirwell Matthew Nolen of New York City, Timothy Richard Nolen and wife Sharon of Kingsport, Philip Andrew Nolen of Orlando, Fla., Jack Richard Nolen Jr., of Birmingham, Ala.; and daughter, Susan Paige Nolen of Muskogee, Okla. He has a grandson, Samuel Richard Nolen, and a granddaughter, Abigail Lynn Nolen, both of Kingsport. He is also survived by a brother, John Frank Nolen and wife Sara, of Gadsden, Ala.; a sister-in-law Julie Nolen; and by ex-wife, Susan McColley of Muskogee. He is also survived by a niece, Jane Gargus and nephews, John Henry Nolen and wife Elizabeth, and Thirwell Murfee (Trey) Nolen III and wife Stacy of Gadsden, Ala.

The family is grateful to the many volunteers and law enforcement officials who aided in the search for his lost plane.

Memorial contributions in memory of Jack Nolen may be given to the Good Shepherd Health Clinic, c/o St. Paul United Methodist Church, 2130 W. Okmulgee St., Muskogee, Okla. 74401.

A memorial service will be held at First United Methodist Church in Gadsden, Ala., on Saturday (March 5, 2005) at 5 p.m. Officiating will be the Rev. Kenneth Casey.

There will be a visitation time in the parlor at First Methodist from 3 to 5 p.m.

Tyler V. Ramey, 74, Greeneville.
GREENEVILLE - Tyler V. Ramey, 74, Jackson Lane West, Greeneville (Pine Grove community), went to be with the Lord Saturday (Feb. 26, 2005) at Laughlin Memorial Hospital.

He was a former business owner and laborer.

He was the son of the late William and Diona Ramey and was also preceded in death by two sons, Carl Ramey and Richard Ramey; one stepson, Glen William Roberts; and one brother, Flynn W. Ramey.

Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Carrie Frances Ramey; six sons and three daughters-in-law, Tyler W. and Patricia Ramey of Blountville, James W. and Jeanie Ramey of Fall Branch, Earnest Ramey of Maryland, Anthony Ramey, Bruce A. and Linda Ramey, Jeffery Ramey, all of Greeneville; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Phyllis and Bill Roberts, Brenda and Alvin Roberts, all of Greeneville, Shirley Lapeze of Florida; two stepdaughters, Mary Sue Dykes and Carolyn Guy, both of Kingsport; 33 grandchildren and 53 great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Kiser Funeral Home, Greeneville.

Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Earnest Steffey and the Rev. Ronnie Morelock officiating.

Interment will be in Pine Grove Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Tim Smith, Mark Smith, Chris Reed, Jeremy Nunery, Timmy Hicks, Wayne Dilks, Bill Roberts and Alvin Roberts.

Claude Riddle, 91, Jonesborough.
JONESBOROUGH - Mr. Claude Riddle, 91, Jonesborough, died Saturday (Feb. 26, 2005) at the Johnson City Medical Center from injuries received in an automobile accident.

Mr. Riddle was born in Unicoi County and was a son of the late William L. and Mollie Gouge Riddle. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Kenneth Riddle and Dwight Riddle.

Mr. Riddle a longtime member of Second Baptist Church in Jonesborough. He served as church superintendent of Sunday School and was presently chairman of the deacons. He and his wife had a singing ministry for the Lord for 35 years known as "Singing Riddles." They sang in many area churches.

He drove a truck for many years for Smith Wholesale and Cox & Rich Wholesale. He retired from Klopman Mills. He was loved by everyone who knew him. He loved his Lord so much and wanted everyone to know the Lord too. He was a member of the United Commercial Travelers Insurance Company since 1950.

Surviving are his wife of 71 years, Eula Kate Broyles Riddle of the home; a daughter, Betty Joyce Martin, Kingsport; two sons, Jimmy and wife Phyllis Riddle, Telford, and Harold and wife Faye Riddle, Kingsport; a sister, Callie Jean White, South Carolina; three brothers, Howard and wife Ina Riddle, Limestone, Paul Riddle, Johnson City, and Bill Riddle, Florida; three grandchildren, Randall and wife Becky Riddle, Johnson City, Robin and husband Gary Baines, Jonesborough, and Sychia Carter, Kingsport; four great-grandchildren, Peyton Baines, Jonesborough, Lucas Carter, Kingsport, Steven Timbs and Lucas Timbs, both of Johnson City; a special friend, John Wolfe of Rogersville; and a host of many friends and loved ones; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete.

Allie Frazier Stanley, 81, Duffield, Va.
DUFFIELD, Va. - Allie Frazier Stanley, 81, entered into rest Saturday (Feb. 26, 2005) at her residence after a lengthy illness.

Born in Scott County, she was the youngest and last surviving child of the late William Arch and Emily Edwards Frazier, and was a homemaker.

In addition to her parents, brothers, and sisters, she was preceded in death by her husband, Johnny E. Stanley; and an infant son, Roger Darrell Stanley.

Surviving are a daughter, Edna Bowen and husband, Elmer of Duffield; sons, Lester "Bud" Stanley and wife, Dottie of Rogersville, and Ronnie "Pete" Stanley and wife, Sheila of Duffield; grandchildren, Herbert Bowen and wife, Tiffany, Beth Rogers and husband, Stevie, Brian Stanley and wife, Leslie, John Henry Stanley, and Chris Bowen; great-grandchildren, Courtney Rogers and Tyler Rogers; adopted great-grandchildren, Amanda and Molly Dockery; step-grandchildren, Chris Lawson and Julie Miller; special nieces, Faye Hass, Arlena Dockery and Wanda Chapman; several other nieces and nephews.

Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at The Duffield Funeral Home at Thomas Village.

Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the funeral home chapel with Evangelist Garry Hood and the Rev. Steve Rogers officiating.

Music will be provided by the Hood Family Singers and Courtney and Tyler Rogers.

Committal services will follow in the Cox Chapel cemetery in Duffield.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Cleo Taylor, 78, Nickelsville, Va.
NICKELSVILLE, Va. - Cleo Easterling Taylor, 78, of Route 2, Taylortown community, Nickelsville, passed away Saturday (Feb. 26, 2005) at Indian Path Medical Center.

She was born in Scott County on April 20, 1926 and was the daughter of the late Lebert Easterling and Jane Kilgore Easterling. She was a homemaker.

Mrs. Taylor was a member of Greenwood Chapel Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard Radford Taylor Sr. on May 27, 2004; sisters, Virgie Collins, Nola Mae Lemon; brother, Curtis Easterling.

Surviving are her daughter, Mary Jane Taylor, Church Hill; sons, Leonard "Bugs" Taylor Jr. and wife Lynne, Robert Taylor and wife Jeanette, Jimmy Taylor and wife Janice, all of Nickelsville; grandchildren, Mark Hilton, Amy Darnell, Tanya Hale, Brandi Cooper, Michael Taylor, Steve Taylor; great-grandchildren, Robbie Darnell, Krista Hilton; special friend, Mark Hensley; several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Colonial Funeral Home, Weber City, Va., and anytime at the residence.

Services will be conducted at the funeral home chapel at 8 p.m. with Rev. Lelbert Thornburg, Pastor Eddie Taylor, and Clyde Cox officiating.

Music will be provided by Carol Taylor, David Easterling, and Roger Easterling.

Graveside services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Holston View Cemetery. The family will meet at the funeral home at 10:15 to go in procession to the cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers will be Ed Taylor, Roger Easterling, David Easterling, Danny Howell, Danny Hall, and Bill Buchannon.

Honorary pallbearers will be Bud Taylor, Kyle Smith, Edwin Dingus, Don Kendrick, and Zane Parks.

Lynn Smith Wingfield, 84, Kingsport.
KINGSPORT - Lynn (Tiny) Curtis Smith Wingfield, 84, passed away Saturday (Feb. 26, 2005) in the Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center.

Lynn was born Sept. 12, 1920 in Delta, Colo., the daughter of the late W.E. and Rachel C. (Cox) Curtis.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Bartlett Smith and Carroll Wingfield.

Lynn was a retired secretary for the Wells Fargo Bank.

Survivors include her daughter, Judith Rae Irick of Butler, Tenn.; her son-in-law, Ted Irick of Roam Mountain, Tenn.; her grandchildren, Teri Webb of Kingsport, Jay Irick of Bristol, Tenn., Tedi Presnell and Bart Irick, both of Roam Mountain, Tenn., Carl Irick and Christy Robinson, both of Sweetwater, Tenn. Also surviving are nine great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Harry Poplin Allen, 81, Kingsport.
KINGSPORT - Harry Poplin Allen, 81, passed away Thursday (March 31, 2005) at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center.

He was born in Wilder, Va., March 16, 1924. He was the son of the late Florence Poplin Allen and George Harry Allen.

He was employed as Postmaster in Rich Creek, Va., for 33 years. He was a 50-year member of the Masonic Fraternity, a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, and a Past Worth Grand Patron. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Rich Creek, Va., and a veteran of World War II.

He moved to Kingsport in 1992, where he attended Crossroads United Methodist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Juanita Allen Osborne, Kingsport, and Edythe Allen Mullins, Tazewell, Va.

Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Euna Lee Spangler Allen; brother, Billy R. Allen of Rich Creek, Va.; sister, Evelyn White Hale of Kingsport; six nieces and two nephews.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Broyles Funeral Home, Peterstown, W.Va.

Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Aubrey Whitlow officiating.

Entombment will follow at Birchlawn cemetery in Pearisburg, Va.

Honorary pallbearers will be friends of Rich Creek, Va.

Memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church, 108 Old Virginia Ave., Rich Creek, VA 24147.

John R. Bolling, 79, Clintwood, Va.
CLINTWOOD, Va. - John R. "Big Dollar" Bolling, 79, died Saturday (April 2, 2005) at Heritage Hall Health Care Center in Clintwood, Va.

Mr. Bolling was a retired owner and truck driver of Big Dollar Trucking.

He was preceded in death by his wives, Bernice Baker-Bolling and Gennette Estep Bolling; his parents, Henry Anderson, and Mary Bales Wooliver Bolling.

Survivors include daughter, Kathy McReynolds, Coeburn; daughters by heart, Carla Edwards and family, Haysi, Va., and Leonda Keith and family, Coeburn; special great-granddaughter, Taci Keith, Coeburn; and several nieces, nephews and friends.

Visitation will be held after 5 p.m. today at Estes Funeral Home Chapel, Coeburn, Va., where services will be held at 7 p.m. with Rev. Manie Strouth officiating.

Burial will be at 11 a.m. Monday in the Phipps cemetery in Clintwood.

Pallbearers will be Anthony Keith, Larry Edwards, Leland Compton, Dan Ervin, Ralph Mullins and Hayes O'Quin.

Mildred Inez Bradley, 75, Rogersville.
ROGERSVILLE - Mildred Inez (Bailey) Bradley, 75, of Rogersville, went to be with the Lord Saturday (April 2, 2005) at Wellmont-Hawkins County Memorial Hospital following an extended illness.

She professed her faith in God at the age of 10 years on Jan. 12, 1941 at Pilgrims Rest Church. She was a member of the Baptist faith and a Sunday School teacher for 50 years.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Chris and Maude Bailey; one brother, Milford Bailey; two sisters, Jane Barbour and Iva Buchanan.

Survivors include her husband of 56 years, Paul William Bradley Sr. of the home; five children, Paul William Bradley Jr. and wife, Gwen of Rogersville, Deanna Burchfield and husband, Dan of Surgoinsville, Gary Bradley and wife, Lisa of Bulls Gap, Sharon Cradic and husband, Terry of Church Hill, Paula Bradley and Richard Necessary of Bristol, Va.; four grandchildren, Misty Crosby and husband, Lynn of Knoxville, Benjamin and Clarissa Bradley of Rogersville, Fleda Lovelace and husband, Daniel of Bulls Gap; two great-grandchildren, Grant and Katie Grace Crosby of Knoxville; three step-granddaughters, Danielle Burchfield, Summer and Stephanie Cradic; three sisters, Faye Henegar of Rogersville, Betty Chandler of Rogersville, Ina Morrell of Nashville; one uncle, Elmer Cody of Fall Branch; aunts, Noonie Ledford and Nettie McCarson, both of South Carolina; several nieces, nephews, and a host of family and friends, including special friends, Kenneth and Pat Fields.

Calling hours are from 6 to 9 p.m. today at Colboch-Price Funeral Home, Rogersville.

Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday at the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Albert Bentley and the Rev. Jim Trent officiating.

Interment will follow in the Dean Cemetery.

Those who wish may make memorial contributions in Mildred's memory to the American Cancer Society.
