Stephen C. "Hoover" Guy, 55, Kingsport.
KINGSPORT - Services for Stephen C. "Hoover" Guy, 55, of 295 Bell St., Blountville, who went to be with the Lord Wednesday (Oct. 26, 2005), will be conducted at 1 p.m. today at Blessed Hope Baptist Church in Midway with Pastor Stanley Sims officiating.

Military graveside services will immediately follow at Tri-Cities Memory Gardens in Blountville with military rites being performed by Charles DeWitt Byrd Post #3382 of the VFW.

Pallbearers will be Wayne Routh, Mack Begley, Steve Donihue, Don Jones, Jerry Gibbons and Earl Hulse.

The family would like to thank Dr. Ananthula and colleagues for their love and compassionate care for Steve. His last days were made peaceful and comfortable. The family would also like to thank Eastman employees who made it possible for Hope and Brian to spend time with Steve during his last days. God Bless You.

Loretta Hagan, 37, Big Stone Gap, Va.
BIG STONE GAP, Va. - Loretta Hagan, 37, died Thursday (Oct. 27, 2005) at her home.

She was a lifelong resident of Big Stone Gap and was a member of the Irondale Primitive Baptist Church in Big Stone Gap.

She was preceded in death by her father, Sam Harding; two sisters, Charolette Daniel and Phyllis Bush; and two brothers, William and Robert Harding.

Surviving are her son, Rusty Hagan of Appalachia, Va.; her daughter, Katarina Hagan of Big Stone Gap; her mother, Iloe Collier of Big Stone Gap; one sister, Diannia Carranza of Johnson City; five brothers, Kenneth Harding of Hudson, Fla., Jimmy Harding of Big Stone Gap, David Harding of Appalachia, Va., Ronald Harding of Travelers Rest, S.C., and James Harding of Fall Branch, Tenn.; and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday in the Holding Funeral Home Chapel in Big Stone Gap with the Rev. Wayne Gilley officiating.

Inurnment services will follow at American Legion Cemetery.

Garnett Catherine Keen, 86, Kingsport.
KINGSPORT - Garnett Catherine Ratliff Keen, 86, of Kingsport, formerly of Grundy, Va., passed away Tuesday (Oct. 25, 2005) in Kingsport following an extended illness.

Born in Buchanan County, she was the daughter of the late Arthur M. and Ida Sue Woosley Ratliff. She was a resident of Grundy for several years prior to moving to Kingsport and was a member of the Church of Christ.

She was a devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother and was a homemaker.

Mrs. Keen was preceded in death by her husband, William Tivis Keen, Dec. 11, 1972.

Mrs. Keen is survived by one daughter, Willie Katherine Keen Cooper, Kingsport; one sister, Carma Elswick, Pikeville, Ky.; one brother, Arthur M. Ratliff, Jr. Tazewell, Va.; two grandsons, William Alan Cooper, Chesapeake, Va., and Walter Michael Cooper of Kingsport; one great-granddaughter, Kayla Alexis Cooper .

Mrs. Keen was preceded in death by two sisters, Eula Munsey and Myrtle Williams; two brothers, Jack Ratliff and Curtis Ratliff.

Calling hours are from 6 to 7 p.m. today at Grundy Funeral Home, Grundy, Va.

Services will be conducted at 7 p.m. today in the funeral home chapel with Evangelist William Neeley officiating.

Burial to follow at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Clinch Valley Memorial Cemetery, Richlands, Va.

Active pallbearers will be William Alan Cooper, Walter Michael Cooper, Chris Mitchell, Channing Mitchell, Zack Cochran and Mike Yates.

Honorary pallbearers will be Charles Mel Keen, Robert Keen, John E. Munsey, Charlie Woods and Sam Hylton.

Calista Danielle Maynard, 21-days-old, Kingsport.
KINGSPORT - Calista Danielle Maynard, 21-days-old, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday (Oct. 25, 2005) at her residence.

She is the daughter of Jamie Maynard and Elizabeth Lawson.

At this time friends may call anytime at the home of her aunt, Venetia Norton, 1621 G St., Kingsport.

Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Carter-Trent Funeral Home, Kingsport.

Shirley A. McClellan, 85, Kingsport.
KINGSPORT - Shirley A. McClellan, 85, of Kingsport, passed away Friday (Oct. 28, 2005) at her residence.

Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by East Lawn Funeral Home.

Farce T. Peters, 89, Pennington Gap, Va.
PENNINGTON GAP, Va. - Farce T. Peters, 89, passed away Thursday evening (Oct. 27, 2005) at Lonesome Pine Hospital in Big Stone Gap, Va.

Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Sturgill Funeral Home, Pennington Gap, Va.

Kathryn Snapp, 74, Rogersville.
ROGERSVILLE - Kathryn Sovolia Jones Snapp, 74, formerly of Rogersville, went to meet the Lord Thursday morning (Oct. 27, 2005) at Church Hill Health Care & Rehab. Center following a lengthy illness.

She was a lifelong resident of Hawkins County. Kathryn belonged to the Community Chapel Church of God in Christ of Rogersville.

At an early age Kathryn worked hard outside the home, cleaning homes and cooking meals for families. She also baby sat for many children. When at home she cleaned and cooked, carried drinking water, which was also used for laundry and baths, until they got a place with running water. Kathryn made sure the children were in church, until they were of age to choose for themselves. Mrs. Snapp worked at the Burger Bar in Rogersville for many years, until she could no longer do that and then she cooked at the jailhouse for a short period of time. Kathryn always had a smile on her face. She never met a stranger and had a winning personality. Kathryn had a love of music and loved to hear the old time hymns. Mrs. Snapp looked forward to going home to her Lord and Savior. There is surely a crown up above for her.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James B. Snapp; her parents, Theophalus Clarkston and Louise Jones Maxwell; grandmother and grandfather who raised her, Sarah Jones and Gale Jones; sister, Constance Baylor; nephews, James Bruce Gilchrist and Tyrone Baylor.

She is survived by her children, Mary Dennis and husband Johnny, Murfreesboro, Tenn., James B. Snapp, Georgia, Carolyn K. Jackson, Texas, Edith Gilbraith and husband Roger, Rogersville, Martha Hilton and husband Thomas, Chattanooga, Timothy Snapp and wife Lynn, Georgia, Margaret Ewing and husband Lewis, Church Hill, Phillip Snapp and wife Beverly, Rogersville and Annette Snapp, Knoxville; 24 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Ellis Snapp, Jr., Kingsport; along with some dear aunts and a host of nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. Monday at Carter-Trent Funeral Home, Church Hill. Friends may also call anytime at the daughters residence, Edith Gilbraith, 269 Stewart Hills Dr., Rogersville.

A going home service for Kathryn Snapp will be conducted in the funeral home chapel on Monday at 3 p.m. with Elder Ronald Barfield, Elder James Arthur Snapp and Elder Robert Kyer officiating.

A graveside service will follow the funeral at Hawkins County Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers will be Andre Gilbraith, Roger Gilbraith, Johnny Dennis, Derrick Dennis, Lewis Ewing and Eddie Ewing.

Carter-Trent Funeral Home, Church Hill is in charge of arrangements.

Ann Thacker, Fall Branch, Tenn.
FALL BRANCH - Minervia Ann Jenkins Thacker died Friday (Oct. 28, 2005) at Indian Path Medical Center.

Born May 4, 1942 in Scott County, Va., she resided in Fall Branch since 1968. A born again Christian, she was of the Baptist faith. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister.

Preceding her in death were her father and step-mother, Ervin and Marie Jenkins; one sister, Betty Marie Jenkins; special father and mother-in-law, Hubert and Estell Thacker; grandparents, Lucian and Clara Jenkins, and Warner and Virgie McDavid; and several aunts and uncles.

Surviving are her childhood sweetheart and husband since August 30, 1958, Eldridge "Bill" Thacker of the home; son, Roy Junior Thacker, Fall Branch, Tenn.; daughter, Robin Browder and husband, Terry, Kingsport; mother, Dorothy Faye Kindle, Gate City, Va.; sister, Clara Lou and husband Burns Robinson, Pound, Va.; brother and sister-in-law, James and Linda Jenkins, Manassas, Va.; half-brothers and sisters-in-law, Roger Jenkins, Larry and Mary Jenkins, and Jeff and Nettie Jenkins, all of Front Royal, Va., Clay and Eddie Anderson, Jacksonville, Fla., and Jackie Anderson, Kingsport; grandchildren, Torrie and Stephen Goad, Dustin Thacker, and Faith Browder; two great-grandchildren, Marganna Goad and Seth Goad; step-grandchildren, Tiffany Browder Cox and husband, Mickey, and Whitney Browder; step-great-grandchild, Riley Nicole Cox; special in-laws, Barbara Lawson, Nancy and Carl Fields, Bob and Shirley Thacker, Wayne and Sue Thacker, and Gary Thacker; special aunts and uncles, Naomi and Jim McLaney, Piney Flats, Anna Mae Jenkins, Gate City, Va., and Herbert and Betty McDavid, Gate City, Va.; several nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, special cousins and cousins-in-law; and a special sisterly cousin, Phyllis Baker and husband Junior Baker.

Calling hours are 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the Fall Branch Chapel of Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes.

Services will be conducted at 7 p.m. Sunday in the Fall Branch Chapel with Rev. Burns Robinson officiating and a eulogy by Terry Browder.

Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Tri-Cities Memory Gardens with Pastor J. W. Depew officiating.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Cancer Outreach Associates, 2020 Brookside Drive, Suite 20, Kingsport, Tenn. 37660.

Grady Thorpe, 69, Gate City, Va.
GATE CITY, Va. - Graveside services for Grady Lee Thorpe, 69, who went home to be with the Lord Tuesday (Oct. 25, 2005), will be held at 1 p.m. today at the Bishop Cemetery. The family will be meeting at 12 noon at the funeral home to go in procession to the cemetery.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Memorial contributions may be made to Gate City Funeral Home, P.O. Box 427, Gate City, Va. 24251 to help with funeral expenses.

Gate City Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

William Guy Trent, 77, Rogersville.
ROGERSVILLE - William Guy Trent, 77, ended his earthy journey Friday (Oct. 28, 2005) at Wellmont Holston Valley Hospital.

He was owner/operator of Trent Auto Sales for 47 years, was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, and had been a member of First Baptist Church of Rogersville since 1962. Guy was an avid antique car and El Camino collector and enthusiast.

Guy was preceded in death by his parents, William and Bobbie C. Trent; and brothers-in-law, Wallace Russell and Glen Coward.

Guy is survived by his devoted wife of 50 years, Imogene Trent of the home; children, Elizabeth Ann and John Metz of Rogersville, Philip Guy and Ann Trent of Nashville, and William C. Trent and Thomas Ranz of Louisville, Ky.; grandchildren, John Carter Metz, Amelia Metz, William S. Trent and Monica Trent; sisters, Violet Coward of Cleveland, Tenn., Patricia Russell of Charlotte, N.C., and Mary Ruth Ferrell and husband, Waymon of Kingsport; brothers, Doyle Trent and wife, Cora of Kingsport and Larry Trent and wife, Carol of Rogersville; several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at First Baptist Church of Rogersville.

Services will follow at 8 p.m. at the church with Rev. Bob Riley officiating.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at McKinney Cemetery.

Charles V. Williams, 73, Surgoinsville.
Hawkins County Color Guard and Tennessee Army National Guard will conduct military honors for Charles V. Williams, 73, Surgoinsville, who went to be with the Lord Tuesday afternoon (Oct. 25, 2005), at 1 p.m. Monday at the Mt. Home Veterans Cemetery. The Rev. Wrightly Salling will conduct the services.

Helen Yarbrough, Rogersville.
ROGERSVILLE - Services for Helen Elizabeth Phipps Yarbrough who departed this life Wednesday (Oct. 26, 2005), will be conducted at 11 a.m. today at the GUntown Church of Christ by Minister Marshall Stubblefield.

Burial will follow at the McKinney Chapel Church Cemetery.

Elmer Alley, 86, Church Hill.
CHURCH HILL - Elmer Otis Alley, 86, of 4514 Stanley Valley Rd., passed away Thursday morning (Oct. 27, 2005) at his residence following an extended illness.

He was born in Scott County, Va., but had resided in Hawkins County the majority of his life.

Mr. Alley served in the U.S. Army during World War II with the Company C 38th regiment infantry division. He worked at Joseph's Watch Sales and Repair in Kingsport before retiring from the Tennessee Eastman Company in 1979 with 37 years of service. Elmer's favorite hobby was woodworking.

He belonged to Okolona United Methodist Church in Stanley Valley where he had served as Sunday School superintendent for many years.

Elmer Alley is preceded in death by his grandson, Joel Scott Alley; his parents, Robert and Annie McConnell Alley; along with an infant brother.

Mr. Alley is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Betty Roller Alley; two sons, Doyle Alley and his wife, Nancy of Yuma, Va., Jerry Alley and his wife, Brenda of Maryville, Tenn.; a daughter, Brenda Mason and her husband, Joe of Kingsport; six grandchildren, Sherri Pesterfield, Terri Best, Angie Alley, Bradley Alley, Jennifer Mason and Bethany Alley; three great-grandchildren, Ethan Pesterfield, Luke Mason and Olivia Mason; a sister, Marie Merrill of Kingsport; a brother, Edgar Alley and his wife, Elsie of Church Hill; along with several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours are from 1 to 3 p.m. on Saturday at Carter-Trent Funeral Home of Church Hill or anytime at the residence, 4514 Stanley Valley Road.

Services will be conducted Saturday at 3 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Charlie Eberhart officiating.

A graveside service will follow at Oak Hill cemetery with family and friends serving as pallbearers.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Okolona United Methodist Church, c/o Kathleen Ford, 813 Greene Street, Church Hill, Tenn. 37642.
