Dana Odom, 97, Kingsport.
KINGSPORT - Dana J. Odom, 97, Kingsport, passed away Wednesday (Oct. 26, 2005).

Born in Hawkins County in 1908, Mr. Odom moved to Kingsport in 1926 and retired from Holston Defense Corporation in 1973.

He was a member of Lynn Garden Baptist Church for 60 years, where he served as a deacon and was actively involved in various committees.

Mr. Odom was preceded in death by his wives, Mary Ruth Odom and Lillie Odom; son, J.D. Odom; parents, Harrison and Lyda Odom; brother, Homer Odom; two sisters, Vola Bradley and Marie Odom; and one grandson, Anthony Droke.

Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Sue and Larry Lyon, Kingsport, Joan and Wayne Droke, Kingsport; daughter-in-law, Betty Odom, Kingsport; six grandchildren, Angie Droke, Kingsport, Patrick Droke, Chattanooga, Mari Beth Droke, Kingsport, Jason Lyon, Chattanooga, Janet Owen, Kingsport, and Steve Odom, Kingsport; two great-grandsons, Brandon Dinsmore, Knoxville, and Jonathon Odom, Kingsport; three sisters, Eula Hammon, Tampa, Fla., Agnes Davis, Whitesburg, Tenn., and Teresa Earnhart, Port Orange, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport.

Services will be conducted at 7 p.m. today at the funeral home with Rev. Carl Strickler and Rev. Gale Hartley officiating.

Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Oak Hill Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be Jack May, Bob Jennings, Jim Austin, Don Mann, Joe Stallard, Bill Thurman, Gawain Pearman, Coy Kindle, Wayne Patterson, and Jimmy Horne.

Honorary pallbearers will be Gerald Owens, Kenneth Stapleton, Clarence Nelms, Fred Kilgore, Mickey Bush and Allen Rhoton.

Barbara Moyers Smith, 75, Morristown.
MORRISTOWN - Barbara Moyers Smith, 75, formerly of Morristown, passed away Wednesday (Oct. 26, 2005) at the Wexford House of Kingsport.

She was the office manager for Hamblen Lumber Company for many years and a sales associate for Sears.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas Howard Moyers and Willie Mae Maloy.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Don and Deborah Smith of Kingsport; daughter and son-in-law, Debra and Tom Chapman of Coppell, Tex.; her sisters, Doris Lynch and Tommie McGinnis, both of Morristown; brothers, William Moyers of Easley, S.C., and Sam Moyers of Knoxville; grandchildren and spouses, Chris and Haven Smith of Abingdon, Va., David and Anne Smith of Kingsport, Andrew Chapman and Brian Chapman, both of Coppel, Tex.; great-grandchild, Jenna Faye Smith; along with several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends today from 6 to 8 p.m.

Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday in Hamblen Memory Gardens with Rev. S. Lee Campbell officiating.

Allen Funeral Home, Morristown, Tenn., is in charge of arrangements.

Kathryn Snapp, 74, Rogersville.
ROGERSVILLE - Kathryn Jones Snapp, 74, formerly of Rogersville, went to meet the Lord Thursday morning (Oct. 27, 2005) at Church Hill Health Care and Rehab following a lengthy illness.

At this time friends may call anytime at the daughters residence, Edith Gilbraith, 269 Stewart Hills Dr., Rogersville.

Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Carter-Trent Funeral Home of Church Hill.

Wallace Steadman, Nashville.

Graveside services for Wallace "Wimpy" Eugene Steadman, Nashville, a D.A.V. of the U.S. Navy, who passed away on Tuesday (Oct. 25, 2005), will be conducted at 11 a.m. today at Oak Hill Memorial Park with military rites conducted by the Charles DeWitt Byrd Post #3382 of the VFW.

Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, Kingsport, is in charge of arrangements.

Grady Thorpe, 69, Gate City, Va.
GATE CITY, Va. - Services for Grady Lee Thorpe, 69, who went home to be with the Lord Tuesday (Oct. 25, 2005), will be held at 8 p.m. today in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of Gate City Funeral Home with Rev. John Brewster officiating.

Music will be provided by the Sizemore Quartet.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Bishop Cemetery. The family will be meeting at 12 noon at the funeral home to go in procession to the cemetery.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Memorial contributions may be made to Gate City Funeral Home, P.O. Box 427, Gate City, Va. 24251 to help with funeral expenses.

Joan Dean Whitaker, 92, Kingsport.
KINGSPORT - Joan Dean Whitaker, 92, passed away Wednesday (Oct. 26, 2005) at Brookhaven Nursing Home after an extended illness.

Mrs. Whitaker was born on Dec. 19, 1912, in Scott County, Va., to the late Sylvester Patton and Eliza Victoria Henry Dean. She was a homemaker, and a member of the Faith Baptist Church. Mrs. Whitaker was also a member of the Walnut Hill Home Demonstration Club.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Wayne Whitaker; one brother, Wilbur Dean; two sisters, Georgia Miller and Artie McConnell.

Mrs. Whitaker is survived by two sons and one daughter-in-law, Gary Wayne Whitaker, of Nashville, Tenn., David Dean Whitaker and wife Pat, of Murfreesboro, Tenn.; one brother and sister-in-law, Jerry Dean and wife Mary, of Manchester, Tenn.; two sisters, Naomi Piper, of Fountain City, Tenn., and Faye Ebert, of Richmond, Va.; three grandchildren, Beau, Ashley and Boone Whitaker; several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 3 p.m. today at East Lawn Funeral Home.

Services will be held at 3 p.m. today in the funeral home chapel with the Minister Jack Parrott officiating.

Burial will follow in the East Lawn Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be Beau Whitaker, Boone Whitaker, David Snapp, Randy Miller, Ashley Whitaker and Doyle Meadows.

Charles V. Williams, 73, Surgoinsville.
SURGOINSVILLE - Charles V. Williams, 73, went to be with the Lord Tuesday afternoon (Oct. 25, 2005) at Hawkins County Hospital after an extended illness.

He was of the Baptist faith and was a veteran having served in the U.S. Marine Corps.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Lottie Williams; and sister, Nieta Leonard.

Surviving are six children, Doris Hefner, Sandra Fox, Karen Fox, Charles Edward Williams, Michael Lynn Williams and Lisa Beasley, all of North Carolina; several grandchildren; three sisters, Shirley Jean Dooley Thacker of Surgoinsville, Nancy Vessallo and Ruby Akers of Lynchburg, Va.; two brothers, Bill Williams of Dungannon, Va. and Orban Williams of Bristol, Tenn.; special nephews that where his caregivers, Jimmy Dooley and Troy Proctor, both of Surgoinsville; several nieces and nephews.

Hawkins County Color Guard and Tennessee Army National Guard will conduct military graveside honors at 1 p.m. Monday at the Mt. Home Veterans Cemetery. The Rev. Wrightly Salling will conduct the services.

Colboch-Price Funeral Home, Rogersville is in charge of arrangements.

Helen Yarbrough, Rogersville.
ROGERSVILLE - Helen Elizabeth Phipps Yarbrough departed this life Wednesday (Oct. 26, 2005) at Wellmont Hawkins County Hospital.

She was born February 26, 1921 and was a lifelong resident of the Guntown Community. She was the oldest member of the Guntown Church of Christ.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert J. and Sarah Annis Lawson Phipps; brothers, Neil, Frank and Robert Phipps; sisters, Mary Lee Forgety, Virginia Phipps, Bessie Smith and Lenora Dodson.

Left to mourn her passing are her husband, Ruble Yarbrough of the home; daughter and son-in-law, Sherry and Jonathan Case; grandsons, Rick and Rob Case all of Abingdon, Va.; sister-in-law, Hazel Phipps; special niece and nephew, Wanda and Bobby Gilliam; special nephews, Roger and Wayne Dodson; and a host of extended family and good friends.

The family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. today at Colboch-Price Funeral Home or anytime at the home.

Services will be conducted by Minister Marshall Stubblefield at Guntown Church of Christ Saturday at 11 a.m.

Burial will follow at the McKinney Chapel Church Cemetery.

Margaret Argabrite, Kingsport.
Burial services for Margaret Courtney Argabrite, Kingsport, who passed away on Tuesday (Oct. 25, 2005), will be held at 1:30 p.m. today at New Providence Presbyterian Church in Surgoinsville.

Memorial services will follow at 2:30 p.m. today at First Presbyterian Church of Kingsport with Rev. David A. Cagle and Rev. L. Craig Foster officiating.

Honorary pallbearers are Bill Armstrong, Newton Shearer, Robert Phlegar, Roger Schulken, Mike Witt, Charles Pitts and Wes Argabrite.

The family extends its appreciation to the staff of Preston Place for their loving care and support.

Memorial contributions may be made to the First Presbyterian Church, 100 W. Church Circle, Kingsport, Tenn. 37660.

John Charles Barrett, 64, Church Hill.
CHURCH HILL - John Charles Barrett, 64, of 121 Davis Road, passed away Monday (Oct. 24, 2005) at his home following a sudden illness.

Mr. Barrett was a lifelong resident of Hawkins County and was of the Baptist faith. He was a retired carpenter.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Clint S. and Sarah Alice Armstrong Barrett; two brothers, Howard Barrett and Frank Barrett.

Surviving are three sons and daughter-in-law, Darryl Ray Barrett, Kingsport, Wayne and Beth Barrett, Church Hill, John Charles Barrett Jr., Surgoinsville; two daughters and son-in-law, Tammie and Mike Anderson, University Park, Iowa, Tonyia Blizzard, Surgoinsville; 11 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; mother of his children, Shirley Ratliff; very special grandson and hunting buddy, Brandon Blizzard; four brothers and sisters-in-law, Mack and Rhonda Barrett, Billy Joe and Faye Barrett, all of Rogersvillle, Sam Barrett, Bean Station, Ralph and Linda Barrett, Kingsport; five sisters and brothers-in-law, Lorraine and Lester Nichols, Petersburg, Tenn., Peggy and Sam Helton, Linda and Dave Dishner, Deborah and Junior "Hoot" Willis, all of Surgoinsville, Alice and Verlion Wood, Church Hill; several nieces and nephews; special friends, Milton Harrell, Raymond Phillips and Paul Housewright.

Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Johnson Funeral Home, Church Hill, and anytime at the residence.

Services will be conducted at 8 p.m. today in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Lee Knowles officiating.

Graveside services will be conducted Friday at 11 a.m. at the Barrett Cemetery.

Bonnie Fields Bellamy, 86, Gate City, Va.
Services for Bonnie Fields Bellamy, 86, Gate City, Va., who went to be with the Lord on Monday (Oct. 24, 2005), will be conducted at 11 a.m. today at Catron's Chapel Church with Pastor Richard Dice and Pastor Larry Tolley officiating.

Mrs. Bellamy will lie in state one hour prior to the service.

Music will be provided by the Hensley Family and Gerald Compton.

Burial will follow at the Bellamy Family cemetery with her grandsons serving as pallbearers.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Kings Highway Temple, 926 Lynn Garden Dr., Kingsport, Tenn. 37660 or Catron's Chapel Church, Route 3, Box 309, Gate City, Va. 24251.

Kenneth Ray Collins, 46, Jonesville, Va.
JONESVILLE, Va. - Kenneth Ray Collins was born in Lee County on Wednesday, Aug. 17, 1949, and went to be with his Lord on Tuesday (Oct. 25, 2005) at the Johnson City Medical Center at the age of 46 years.

He was preceded in death by his father, Arnold Collins; his paternal grandparents, Newton and Nodie Collins; his maternal grandparents, George and Mary Sexton; one niece, Lawana Sue Collins; and one nephew, Jeremy Abraham Barber.

He was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving are his mother, Anna Lee "Bea" Collins of Jonesville; three brothers, Willard Collins and wife Wanda Faye of Jonesville, Leonard (Fatman) Collins and wife Sue, Bill Collins and wife Cindy, all of Jonesville; three sisters, Geraldine Collins and husband Dennis, Mary Alice Fee and husband Mike, both of Jonesville, and Betty Janeway and husband Charles of Ewing, Va.; a loving companion of 13 years, Sherry "Bun" Gilliam and her son Josh; also a special cousin, Danny "Hog" Sweeney of Jonesville; and several nieces and nephews and many friends.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Province Funeral Home in Jonesville, Va.

Services will be held at 8 p.m. today in the sanctuary of the funeral home with Rev. Steve Neff officiating.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Ewing cemetery in Jonesville. Family and friends are asked to meet at the funeral home at 10:15 a.m. to go to the cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Jimmy "Bo" Collins, Willard Allen Collins, Amos and Grey Janeway, Jason Collins and Billy Lee Collins II, and honorary pallbearer, Danny (Hog) Sweeney.

Gary C. Cooper, 67, Johnson City.
JOHNSON CITY - Gary C. Cooper, 67, passed away Monday (Oct. 24, 2005) in the Johnson City Medical Center.

Mr. Cooper was born on March 1, 1938, in Kingsport, to the late Russell C. and Clara Ledford Cooper. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. Mr. Cooper was an account executive, and was a member of the Lambda Thi Alpha fraternity, and a sponsor of the Dobyns-Bennett Stock Market Gang.

Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, Clay Cooper and wife Amanda, of Roanoke, Va.; one daughter, Christy Cooper Evans, of Johnson City; four grandchildren, Thomas D. Evans, V., Jessica Cooper, Clay Carlton Cooper II, Noah William Cooper.

The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 1 to 3 p.m. in East Lawn Funeral Home.

Graveside service will be held Sunday at 3 p.m. in the East Lawn Memorial Park. Military honors will be rendered by the Charles DeWitt Byrd VFW Post # 3382.

Honorary pallbearers will be friends of Mr. Cooper.
