Loretta "Tot" Fields, 76, Kingsport.
KINGSPORT - Loretta Marie Skelton "Tot" Fields, 76, of 1904 Diana Road, fell into the arms of Jesus on Tuesday (Oct. 25, 2005) at Church Hill Health & Rehab Center following an extended illness.

Mrs. Fields was a native of Virginia but had spent most of her adult life in Hawkins and Sullivan Counties. She was a member of Bays Mountain Baptist Church and was a retired employee of the Kingsport Press.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Alexander Fields; one son, Mark Anthony "Tony" Skelton; her parents, William and Della Jones Alden; three brothers, Nathaniel Short, J.P. Short and Ralph Short; one sister, Mary Ruth Short.

She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Johnny and Susan Skelton, Church Hill; one daughter, Judy Tunnell and companion, Scott Wolfe, Church Hill; stepchildren, Harlan Fields and wife, Maryanne, and Jennifer Baker; two granddaughters, Tammy Flannagan, Angie Brothers and husband, John; three great-grandchildren, Chelsea, Josh and Haleigh Flanagan; step-grandchildren, Lisa Long and husband, Chris, Steffany Winegar, Charlotte Hyatt and husband, Ronnie; seven step- great-grandchildren; special friend, George W. Cloud, and best friends, Pat Christian, Lagatha Rowan and Joyce Russell.

Calling hours are from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Johnson Funeral Home and anytime at the residence.

Services will be conducted at 8 p.m. Friday in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Lester Morelock, the Rev. Bobby Bernard and the Rev. Ed McLain officiating.

Graveside services will be conducted Saturday at 11 a.m. at Church Hill Memory Gardens.

Pallbearers will be Johnny Skelton, Greg Seals, Scott Wolfe, John Brothers, Vim Skelton and Ron Skelton.

Walter M. Golden, 60, Kingsport.
KINGSPORT - Walter M. Golden, 60, passed away at Wellmont Holston Valley Hospital after a short illness.

He was a member of Reedy Creek Presbyterian Church in Orebank. Walter was employed by Heartland Express and previously by A&M Express and Yellow Coach.

Surviving are three daughters, Lisa Golden, Gray, Michelle Golden, Blountville, and Mandy Butterworth, Bristol, Tenn.; two sons, Chad Golden, Hampton, Tenn., and Marty Golden and wife Beth, Jonesborough; five grandchildren, Parker Golden, Kingsport, Abagael Botts, Gray, Hunter Botts, Gray, Marshall Golden and Carter Golden, Jonesborough; one sister, Gail Golden, Woodlawn, Va.; one nephew, Marty Gaynor; and one niece, Jamie Gaynor.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, Kingsport.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Reedy Creek Presbyterian Church with Rev. Dr. Robert L. Lowry.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Honorary pallbearers will be Ken Bass and Dennis Jones and a special friend, Gene Mullins.

Jessie Lee Grills, Kingsport.
Entombment services for Jessie Lee Grills, Kingsport, who passed away Monday (Oct. 24, 2005), will be conducted at 10 a.m. today in the Oak Hill I Mausoleum of Oak Hill Memorial Park.

Honorary pallbearers will be Joe Moody, Dan Moody, Sam Moody, Tim Grills, Hugh Grills, Eddie Grills and Tony Grills.

BLOUNTVILLE - Graveside services for Glen T. Guinn, 88, who passed away Monday (Oct. 24, 2005), will be conducted at 11 a.m. today in East Lawn Memorial Park.

Stephen C. "Hoover" Guy, 55, Kingsport.
KINGSPORT - Stephen C. "Hoover" Guy, 55, of 295 Bell St., Blountville, went to be with the Lord Wednesday (Oct. 26, 2005) at Wellmont Holston Valley Hospital after a brief battle with brain cancer.

He was born in Kingsport, and was a lifelong resident of Sullivan County. He graduated from Lynn View High School in 1968, and was employed at Weyerhaeuser. He also was a Vietnam veteran. Steve loved to hunt, fish, and play golf. He was the former owner of Hoover's Bait and Tackle Shop.

He was a member and deacon of Blessed Hope Baptist Church. Steve loved his church and his church family. His greatest joy was doing Sunday night prayer room and being a witness door-to-door.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Curtis Lee and Edyth Elizabeth Meade Guy; and a brother, David Lynn Guy.

Survivors include his wife of 33 years, Janet Hope Guy of the home; a daughter, Kristie Guy Bushong and husband John of Raleigh, N.C.; a son, Brian Guy and wife Karen of Jonesborough; two loving grandchildren, Noah and Abbigail; two loving caregivers, mother and father-in-law, Carl and Jewel Gragg; a sister, Regina Drennen; a brother, Mitchell Guy and wife Jewel of Kingsport; two nieces, Crystal and Laura Guy; one nephew, Spike Guy of Kingsport; special friends, Al Thoda, Clayton Vaughn, Don Canter and Wayne Bowman; and lots of uncles, aunts, cousins.

The family will receive friends at Oak Hill Funeral Home from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday or at the home anytime Thursday.

Services will be conducted at Blessed Hope Baptist Church in Midway on Saturday at 1 p.m. with Pastor Stanley Sims officiating.

Military graveside services will immediately follow at Tri-Cities Memory Gardens in Blountville with military rites being performed by Charles DeWitt Byrd Post #3382 of the VFW.

Pallbearers will be Wayne Routh, Mack Begley, Steve Donihue, Don Jones, Jerry Gibbons and Earl Hulse.

The family would like to thank Dr. Ananthula and colleagues for their love and compassionate care for Steve. His last days were made peaceful and comfortable. The family would also like to thank Eastman employees who made it possible for Hope and Brian to spend time with Steve during his last days. God Bless You.

Earl Hale, 87, Gray.
GRAY - Earl Stanley Hale, 87, 264 Roscoe Fitz Rd., Gray, passed away early Wednesday morning (Oct. 26, 2005) at Life Care Center of Gray after a long illness.

He was born and resided in Washington County (Gray community) all his life. Mr. Hale was a son of the late Pearl Mohlar and Hobert Hale. He was a charter member of Greenvale Baptist Church of Gray, served in the military in France and Germany and received a Purple Heart during World War II, retired from the Tennessee Eastman Company as an operator, and had farmed all his life.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Edith Hale in July 2003; two brothers, Bill Hale and Norman Hale; one sister, Delta Chase.

He is survived by one son, Gary Wayne (Judy) Hale of Gray; one daughter, Linda (Larry) Ferguson of Gray; one brother, Lee Hale of Boones Creek community; three grandchildren, Jaime Ferguson, Whitney Estepp, and Danielle Street; five great-grandchildren, Ben, Aleah, and Caden Street, and Noah and Mallory Estepp.

Arrangements are incomplete at this time and will be announced later by Gray Funeral Home.

Marian Swann Jones, 82, Thomasville, N.C.
THOMASVILLE, N.C. - Marian Swann Jones, 82, of Kingsport, passed away Tuesday (Oct. 25, 2005) at Britthaven Nursing Home in Thomasville, N.C. She had resided in Thomasville for the past three years.

She was born in Gastonia, N.C., and had resided in Kingsport since the age of 5. Mrs. Jones was a graduate of Dobyns-Bennett High School and a veteran of the U.S. Navy. She had worked as a secretary and retired from Calvary Baptist Church where she was a member.

Mrs. Jones was an avid bowler.

She was preceded in death by her parents, H.C. and Jonnie Swann; husband, John C. Jones; son, Mark Edward Jones; grandson, Eric Jones; sister, Evelyn Swann Jones; and brother, Carl Swann.

Surviving are two daughters, Susan Dennis and husband, Mike, Thomasville, and Libby Jones, Kingsport; one son, Chris Jones, Kingsport; four grandchildren, Matt Dennis, John Dennis, Austin Jones, and Mercedes McCarty; and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, Kingsport, and any time at the home of the son at 1265 Chestnut Street.

Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home with Dr. Frank Crawford officiating.

Burial will follow at East Lawn Memorial Park.

Memorials may be made to Calvary Baptist Church, 1238 Pine Street, Kingsport, TN 37664.

Services forTommy Morelock, 51, of the Beech Creek community, Kingsport, who died Monday afternoon (Oct. 24, 2005), will be conducted at 7 p.m. today at the Fall Branch Chapel of Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home with Rev. Lewis Meade officiating.

Roy Dolen will provide music.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at Mt. Carmel Freewill Baptist Church cemetery in Rogersville. Those attending the graveside service should meet at the cemetery by 10:50 a.m.

Dana Odom, 97, Kingsport.
KINGSPORT - Dana J. Odom, 97, Kingsport, passed away Wednesday (Oct. 26, 2005).

Born in Hawkins County in 1908, Mr. Odom moved to Kingsport in 1926 and retired from Holston Defense Corporation in 1973.

He was a member of Lynn Garden Baptist Church for 60 years, where he served as a deacon and was actively involved in various committees.

Mr. Odom was preceded in death by his wives, Mary Ruth Odom and Lillie Odom; son, J.D. Odom; parents, Harrison and Lyda Odom; brother, Homer Odom; two sisters, Vola Bradley and Marie Odom; and one grandson, Anthony Droke.

Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Sue and Larry Lyon, Kingsport, Joan and Wayne Droke, Kingsport; daughter-in-law, Betty Odom, Kingsport; six grandchildren, Angie Droke, Kingsport, Patrick Droke, Chattanooga, Mari Beth Droke, Kingsport, Jason Lyon, Chattanooga, Janet Owen, Kingsport, and Steve Odom, Kingsport; two great-grandsons, Brandon Dinsmore, Knoxville, and Jonathon Odom, Kingsport; three sisters, Eula Hammon, Tampa, Fla., Agnes Davis, Whitesburg, Tenn., and Teresa Earnhart, Port Orange, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport.

Services will be conducted at 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home with Rev. Carl Strickler and Rev. Gale Hartley officiating.

Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Oak Hill Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be Jack May, Bob Jennings, Jim Austin, Don Mann, Joe Stallard, Bill Thurman, Gawain Pearman, Coy Kindle, Wayne Patterson, and Jimmy Horne.

Honorary pallbearers will be Gerald Owens, Kenneth Stapleton, Clarence Nelms, Fred Kilgore, and Allen Rhoton.

Helen Sergent, 96, Gate City, Va.
Services for Helen Sergent, 96, formerly of Gate City, who passed away Saturday (Oct. 22, 2005), will be conducted at 1 p.m. today at Gate City United Methodist Church, Gate City, Va., with Rev. Dale Wyrick and Rev. Steve Brown officiating.

Music will be provided by David Taylor and Jim Belt Baker.

Interment will follow the service at Holston View Cemetery, Weber City, Va.

Benny Reed, Arthur Scott, Jim Addington, Pat Quillen, David Taylor, Allen Dougherty, Judge John Kilgore, Carl Scott, and Hugh Scott will serve as pallbearers.

B.J. Broadwater, Tucker Coleman, Charles Hartgrove, Roderick St. Martin, Bill Draper, Lee Baker, Stan Bateman, Sam Coleman will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Memorial contributions may be sent to Gate City United Methodist Church, P.O Box 246, Gate City, Va. 24251.

Barbara Gertrude Smith, 75, Kingsport.
KINGSPORT - Barbara Gertrude Smith, 75, formerly of Morristown, passed away Wednesday (Oct. 26, 2005) at the Wexford House of Kingsport.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas Howard Moyers and Willie Mae Maloy.

She was the office manager for Hamblen Lumber Company for many years and a sales associate for Sears.

Survivors include her daughter, Deborah Smith of Kingsport; and her son and daughter-in-law, Tom and Debra Chapman of Coppell, Tex. She is also survived by her sisters, Doris Lynch and Tommie McGinnis, both of Morristown; brothers, William Moyers of Easley, S.C., and Sam Moyers of Knoxville; grandchildren and spouses, Chris and Haven Smith of Abingdon, Va., David and Anne Smith of Kingsport, Andrew Chapman and Brian Chapman, both of Coppell, Tex.; great-grandchild, Jenna Faye Smith; along with several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Allen Funeral Home, Morristown, Tenn.

Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday in Hamblen Memory Gardens with the Rev. George Johnson officiating.

Wallace Steadman, Nashville.
NASHVILLE - Wallace "Wimpy" Eugene Steadman, a D.A.V. of the U.S. Navy, passed away on Tuesday (Oct. 25, 2005) at a Nashville hospital after a brief battle with brain cancer.

"Wimpy" was an involved gamecock activist and an avid U.T. fan.

He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Flora Steadman and Ed Lynn Steadman; two brothers, Ed Lynn Steadman Jr. and Toby Steadman; and one sister, Nancy Bowser.

Surviving are two daughters, Bobbie Williams, Chattanooga, and Robin Steadman, Dunlap, Tenn.; one stepson, Stacy Stipes, North Carolina; three grandchildren, Mike Williams, Wilmington, N.C., Michelle Rutherford, Chattanooga, and Melissa Williams, Kingsport; two great-grandchildren, Miranda Rutherford, Chattanooga, and Maddy Williams, Wilmington, N.C.; two sisters, Beatrice Frazier and Fannie Bishop; two brothers, Charles A. Steadman and Hubert Steadman, all of Kingsport; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. today at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, Kingsport, or any time at the home of his sister, Beatrice Frazier.

Services will be conducted at 8:30 p.m. today at the funeral home with Rev. Teddy Webb officiating.

Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at Oak Hill Memorial Park with military rites conducted by the Charles DeWitt Byrd Post #3382 of the VFW.

Grady Thorpe, 69, Gate City, Va.
GATE CITY, Va. - Grady Lee Thorpe, 69, went home to be with the Lord Tuesday (Oct. 25, 2005) at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center.

He was born in Scott County, Va., April 16, 1936, to the late Edward and Della Grizzle Thorpe.

Including his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Ray, Harold, Vernon and Ricky Thorpe.

Survivors include his wife, Peggy Sue Woods Thorpe, Gate City; daughters, Rhonda Watts and fiance, John Parnow, Kingsport, Lisa and husband, Keith Quillen, Gate City, Alice Neal, Sneedville, Patricia and husband, Vincent Weston, Kyles Ford; sons, Jeffrey and wife, Molly Thorpe, Kingsport, Teddy Tharp and fiancee, Rebecca Brooks, Gate City, Bobby Thorpe, Gate City, and Toby Thorpe, Kingsport; sisters, Regina Ramey, Sue and husband, Tom Payne, Janice and Ricky Williams, all of Kingsport; brothers, Billy and wife, Shirley Thorpe, Cecil and wife, Helen Thorpe, all of Kingsport; nine grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Gate City Funeral Home.

Services will be at 8 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Rev. John Brewster officiating.

Music will be provided by the Sizemore Quartet.

Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at McDavid Cemetery, Bishop Town. The family will be meeting at 12 noon at the funeral home to go in procession to the cemetery.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
