Preston Roberson Sr., 58, Kingsport.
Graveside services for Preston Allen Roberson Sr., 58, of Kingsport, who went home to be with the Lord unexpectedly on Saturday (Oct. 29, 2005), will be conducted at 11 a.m. today at the Godsey Family Cemetery, Hiltons, Va. Those who wish to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the cemetery at 10:55 a.m.

Pallbearers will be Wayne Roberson, Brian Roberson, Allen Roberson, Aaron Davidson, Donnie Sharp and Joe Reed.

Honorary pallbearers will be Junior Barnett, Tim Stout, Danny Smith, Ronnie Matthews, Teddy Vazant and Matt Kincer.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association-Tenn, 208 Sunset Drive, Johnson City, Tenn. 37601.

Carter-Trent/Scott County Funeral Home, Weber City, Va., is in charge of arrangements.

Melvin L. Runion, 51, Bulls Gap.
BULLS GAP - Melvin L. Runion, 51, passed away Sunday evening (Oct. 30, 2005) at Holston Valley Medical Center from injuries sustained in an ATV accident.

He received Jesus at an early age and was a member of Oak Grove Primitive Baptist Church.

He was employed with Progressive Industries in Jefferson City. He was veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in Korea during the Vietnam Conflict.

He was an avid Mark Martin and NASCAR fan.

He was a beloved son, husband, brother, and uncle.

He was preceded in death by his father, Herbert Wayne Runion; and brother, Kenneth Wayne Runion.

Surviving are his wife, Linda Walker Runion, of the home; mother, Rosetta Welch Runion of Knoxville; sisters, Mrs. Chuck (Thelma) Harrell of Knoxville and Mrs. Danny (Mary Katherine) Beeler of Knoxville; mother-in-law, Marie Walker of Rogersville; father-in-law, Haskel Walker of Rogersville; sister-in-law, Brenda Walker of Morristown; brothers-in-law, Harley Walker of Georgia and Ashley Walker of Rogersville; several nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Christian-Sells Funeral Home in Rogersville.

Memorial services will be held at 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with Rev. Danny Bell officiating.

Gussie Parks Stallard, 87, Gate City, Va.
GATE CITY, Va. - Gussie Parks Stallard, 87, formerly of Big Moccasin community, entered into rest Monday (Oct. 31, 2005) at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center.

Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Gate City Funeral Home.

Jonathan B. Wheatley, 40, Kingsport.
KINGSPORT - Graveside services for Jonathan B. "Jon" Wheatley, 40, of Kingsport, who died unexpectedly on Saturday (Oct. 29, 2005), will be held at 11 a.m. today in Oak Hill Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be friends and family.

The staff of Oak Hill Funeral Home is honored to serve the family of Mr. Wheatley.

Bobby S. Whitaker, 70, Kingsport.
KINGSPORT - Bobby Scott Whitaker, 70, went home to be with his Lord and Savior at 5:30 p.m. Sunday (Oct. 30, 2005) at Holston Valley Medical Center.

Bobby was born in Scott County, Va., (March 10, 1935) and he was a son of the late Bobby Luther and Martha Jane (Huffman) Whitaker. Bobby was retired from the U.S. Army after 20 years of service, serving two tours in Korea and one tour in Vietnam War.

Bobby was a member of Hickman Memorial Baptist Church where he received a lifetime plaque as deacon of the church. He was also retired from Eastman.

Bobby was a devoted father, loving husband, and a kind and gentle man whose smile will never be forgotten.

In addition to his parents, Bobby was preceded in death by his son, Bobby Ray Whitaker; his sister, Sylvia Pearle Roller; and his brother, Herbert Edward (Hub) Whitaker

Bobby is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Martha Elizabeth (Laughlin) Whitaker, of the home; his children, Elizabeth Sharon Sexton and husband Bobby of Damascus, Va., Regina Lovell and husband Roy of Elgin, S.C., Kenneth Whitaker and wife Tammy of Blountville, Susan Edson and husband Jeff of Bristol, Tenn., and Vicky Hickman and husband Allen of Blountville; nine grandchildren, Kayla, Sarah Grace, Roy III, Serena, Amanda, Scotty, DeAnna, Cody, and Chase; five great-grandchildren, Troy, Lindy, Taylor, Cheyenne, and Courtney; his brothers, Charles R. Whitaker of Blountville and James Garland Whitaker of Andalosa, Ala.

Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. today at East Lawn Funeral Home and other hours at his son's Kenneth Whitaker, 224 Kingsport Road, Blountville, Tenn.

Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Jamie Mauk, Rev. Malcum Shelton and Rev. Bill Reeves officiating.

Graveside service will follow in the Tri-Cities Memorial Gardens with full military honors conducted by Fort Campbell, Ky., honor guard/Tennessee National Guard.

Pallbearers will be Ronnie Horn, Randall Roller, Tony Roller, Gerald Reeves, Jason Barrett, and Greg Whitaker.

Honorary pallbearers will be deacons of the Hickman Memorial Baptist Church.

The family would like to send a special thank you to the nurses and staff on the 5th floor at the Holston Valley Medical Center.

Dayton Blair, 70, Rogersville.
ROGERSVILLE - Services for Dayton Blair, 70, who died Monday (Oct. 31, 2005), will be conducted at 8 p.m. today in the chapel of Broome Funeral Home, Rogersville, with the Rev. Sheldon Livesay officiating.

Calling hours are from 7 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Tosha Nicole Bowman, 20, Greeneville.
GREENEVILLE - Tosha Nicole Bowman, 20, passed away Wednesday afternoon at Holston Valley Medical Center.

She is survived by two sons, Malakai and Nehamiah Bowman; her parents, Joel and Nancy Bowman and William J. Estepp; two brothers, Joshua Daryl Bowman and Tyler Estepp; one sister, Amy Sue Jones; her grandparents: Joyce and Bobby Estepp; her aunt, Bobbie Christiansen; her uncles, Chuck Huffman, Jolyon Bowman and wife Kay of Tyler, Tex., Dabney E. Bowman of Johnson City, Jeffery Lee Bowman of Denver, Colo., James Robert Bowman of Charleston, S.C., and Jerry Estepp; numerous cousins, including Chad and Jennifer Huffman, Laura Huffman, Mikey Huffman and Alyson and Steve Cutshall; and special friends, Bonnie Drew, Dawn Manier, and April Scruggs.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Dr. and Mrs. C.D. Huffman, Jo Kreed Bowman, Mary Ruth Dickerson Bowman; an uncle, Jon Kennedy Bowman; and one aunt, Kelli Bowman.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. today at Doughty-Stevens Funeral Home in Greeneville.

Services will be held at 8 p.m. following visitation in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Bobby Black officiating.

Interment will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Limestone Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be family members.

Donald Wayne Collins, 33, Kingsport.
KINGSPORT - Donald Wayne Collins, 33, passed away Sunday (Oct. 30, 2005).

He was born in Sullivan County on March 9, 1972 and was employed as a carpenter with Ron Collins Construction. Donald was a member of Vision Freewill Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Clyde McDavid; paternal grandfather, Nathan Collins; two uncles, Kenneth and Larry Collins.

Surviving are his wife, Jackie Collins, Kingsport; mother, Bonnie McDavid, Kingsport; father, Don Collins, Gate City, Va.; stepdaughters, Erica and Ashley Johnson; loving brother, Ronald Collins and wife Kim, Kingsport; maternal grandmother, Lois McDavid, Kingsport; paternal grandmother, Martha Collins, Gate City, Va.; very special nieces, Kirstin and Alexis Collins; very special nephew, Nathaniel Collins; very special cousin, Micheal Hutchins. He loved them all dearly.

Calling hours are from 6 to 9 p.m. today at Colonial Funeral Home, Weber City, Va., and anytime at the residence of his maternal grandmother, Lois McDavid, 510 Fairmont Avenue, Kingsport.

Services will be conducted in the funeral home chapel at 2 p.m. Saturday with Bro. Chad Riner and Bro. Jerry Scalf officiating.

Music will be provided by The Browders.

Interment will be at Oak Hill Memorial Park.

Serving as pallbearers will be Earl Jr. Taylor, Curtis McDavid, Richard Taylor, Kenny McDavid, Ricky Ryans, Billy Collins, David Ware and Ricky Youngblood.

Honorary pallbearers will be Allen McDavid, Scott McDavid, Stevie Thomas, Michael Hutchins, Travis McDavid, Justin McDavid.

Herman W. Davidson, 92, Kingsport.
KINGSPORT - Herman W. Davidson, 92, passed away Thursday (Nov. 3, 2005).

Survivors and arrangements will be announced by Carter-Trent Funeral Home, downtown.

Eva Dykes Dearry, 81, Chapel Hill, N.C.
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Eva Louise (Dykes) Dearry, 81, formerly of Kingsport went home to be with the Lord Wednesday (Nov. 2, 2005) in the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill.

Eva was born in Sullivan County, Jan. 4, 1924 and was a daughter of the late Herman and Ollie (Clark) Dykes. She and her loving husband, Clarence Dearry, of 58 years, moved to Chapel Hill, N.C. in 2003 to be near their sons and family. Her gentle, kind and caring nature endeared her to many friends.

She was a loving mother, a devoted wife, a wonderful sister and a great friend. She was an energetic individual who gave of herself to all she served and with whom she worked. She attended Whitney Business School in Kingsport and spent over 20 years as an administrative assistant at the Tennessee Eastman Corp., Kingsport, the DeKalb County, Ga. School System; and the Bethlehem Steel Corporation, Bethlehem, Pa. With a diverse interest in all aspects of life, Eva was a member of Crossroads United Methodist Church, and was an avid collector of antiques.

In addition to her parents, Eldon, Roy, Marion Dykes and her sister, Mae Dykes, preceded Eva in death.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her devoted husband, Clarence Dearry of Chapel Hill, N.C.; two sons; Allen and wife Barbara of Chapel Hill, N.C. and Mark of Raleigh, N.C.; her brothers, Ralph and Cecil Dykes of Kingsport. Eva also leaves behind many other relatives and friends whose love, support, and kindness she greatly appreciated.

Calling hours are from 12 noon to 2 p.m. Saturday at East Lawn Funeral Home.

Services will be conducted at 2 p. m., Saturday at the the funeral home chapel with Rev. Rae Mullins presiding.

Graveside service will follow the service in the East Lawn Memorial Gardens in the garden of Christus.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Heart Association or American Cancer Society of the Greater Kingsport area.

Cornelius Earnhardt Jr., 93, Pinehurst, N.C.
PINEHURST, N.C. - Cornelius Franklin Earnhardt Jr., 93, died peacefully at his home on Sunday (Oct. 30, 2005).

Mr. Earnhardt was born in Charlotte, N.C. on Oct. 6, 1912 to the late Cornelius Earnhardt Sr., and Ruby Holden Earnhardt. He graduated from Clemson University. In 1941, he married Wilma Gault of Fountain Inn, S.C. and moved to Kingsport where he was Director of Marketing for ECPI of Eastman Kodak. He was past president of the Rotary Club, Red Cross, Sequoyah Council of the Boy Scouts of America, Steward of his church, and a cheerful and tireless fundraiser for numerous organizations in his community including the United Way. The Earnhardts moved to Pinehurst in 1991 to be closer to their two daughters and their families.

Surviving are his wife of 64 years, Wilma Gault Earnhardt; his daughters, Susan Martin and her husband, Bill of Beaufort, N.C. and Nancy Oakley and her husband, Pat of Pinehurst; his sister, Ruth Earnhardt of Roebuck, S.C.; six grandchildren, Melissa Duncan of Greensboro, N.C., Alice Arthur of New Bern, N.C., Neil Oakley of Elon, N.C., Susan Oakley of Israel, John Oakley of Kiawah Island, S.C., and William Oakley of Charleston, S.C.; five great-grandchildren, William and Mary Martin, Henry Duncan, Holden and Charles Arthur.

Services will be held in Fountain Inn, S.C. on Saturday at 1 p.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church.

Interment will follow at Cannon Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to your local chapter of the Boy Scouts of America, your local United Way, Sandhills Children's Center, 1280 Central Drive, Southern Pines, N.C. 28387, First Health Hospice, 150 Applecross Road, Pinehurst, N.C. 28374 or the First Broad Street United Methodist Church, Kingsport.

The family wishes to thank First Health Hospice and especially Costella Brower of her kindness and special care.

John Edward Ferguson, 73, Gray.
GRAY - John Edward Ferguson, 73, passed away suddenly Thursday morning (Nov. 3, 2005) of an apparent heart attack at Holston Valley Medical Center.

He was a son of the late Newman and Sallie Leedy Ferguson and was born April 10, 1932 in Sullivan County, Tenn. He was a graduate of Sulphur Springs High School and proudly served as a Corporal in the U.S. Army from 1953 - 1955, during which time he served in Korea.

For years John has been relentless in his efforts to make a better place for the youth of the Gray Community. He coached Little League baseball for over 40 years in Gray and Johnson City. John served as a past president of Gray Ruritan and as Zone Governor of Washington County. He was presented the Ruritan of the Year Award by the Washington County Ruritan Council and was named Mr. Gray Ruritan in 1975. John was an avid golfer, and was a charter member of The Crossings Golf Club. He retired from the Tenite Department of Tennessee Eastman Company in 1993 after 38 years of service.

John was a faithful member of the Buffalo Ridge Baptist Church in Gray.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved son, John Michael Ferguson; one brother, Hal Glen Ferguson; and sisters, Betty Ferguson and Pauline McKewen.

He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Evelyn Sells Ferguson; two sons, Matthew Ferguson of Dallas, Tex., and Marty Ferguson and wife, Cindy of Johnson City; "Papa John" will also be sadly missed by his beloved granddaughter, Lauren Reese Ferguson of Johnson City; sisters, Mildred (Ken) Kirtley of Jonesborough, Margaret (Derek) Bowman of Telford, Linda (Jimmy) Westmoreland of Johnson City, and Ellen (Darrel) Cole of Jonesborough; one sister-in-law, Martha Ferguson of Gray; one aunt and uncle, Walter and Reba Leedy of Gray; several nieces and nephews; and a host of friends and neighbors.

The family will receive friends Saturday from 5 to 8 p.m. with services at 8 p.m. in the Buffalo Ridge Baptist Church with Dr. Gene Lasley officiating.

Graveside services will be held Sunday at 3 p.m. in the Gray Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Bo Bowman, Joe Bowman, Andy Bowman, Eddie Good, Danny Good, David Good, Hal Ferguson and Gentry Ferguson.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Buffalo Ridge Baptist Church, 197 Suncrest St., Gray, Tenn., 37615.

Gray Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Nannie R. Gardner, 100, Church Hill.
CHURCH HILL - Nannie R. Gardner, 100, of 102 Parkview Street, passed away Thursday (Nov. 3, 2005) at her home following a brief illness.

Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Johnson Funeral Home of Church Hill.

Elmer F. Greer, 94, Mount Carmel.
MOUNT CARMEL - Elmer F. Greer, 94, passed away Thursday (Nov. 3, 2005).

Survivors and arrangements will be announced later by Carter-Trent Funeral Homes of Church Hill.

Gary Lee Hutchins, 50, Kingsport.
KINGSPORT - Gary Lee Hutchins, 50, went to be with the Lord on Thursday (Nov. 3, 2005) from injuries sustained in a fall at Tennessee Eastman Company on Oct. 10, 2005.

Gary was a lifelong resident of Sullivan County (Kingsport). He was a graduate of Ketron High School in 1973 and was a longtime Little League coach. Gary was a lover of life and never met a stranger.

Gary was employed at Eastman in the maintenance department with over 32 years of service. He was a member of New Beginnings Fellowship Church.

He was a great husband, dad, son, brother, granddad and a friend to all.

He was preceded in death by an infant sister, Shelby Hutchins; mother-in-law, Pearl Smith, September 2005.

He is survived by his wife, Sharon Smith Hutchins, of the home; two sons, David Lee Hutchins and wife Ronna and Robert Preston Hutchins and wife Angela Ann, all of Kingsport; grandchildren, Brayden Renae, Avery Grace, Devin Preston, Ty Alexander and Colby Ashton Hutchins; parents, Ralph and Peggy Hutchins, Kingsport; one sister, Joyce Oaks and husband Carl, Kingsport; father-in-law, Robert "Bob" Smith, Kingsport; special brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Randy and Karen Smith, Sheila and David McCulley and Tim and Kim Smith.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday at Temple Bapitst Church, 2200 Memorial Court. Friends may also call anytime at the residence, 324 Lola Mere Dr.

Services will be conducted at 7 p.m. Saturday at the church with Pastor Leland Salyer and Rev. Roy Lane officiating.

Music will be provided by his niece, Bailey Swartz and Trista Ragsdale.

The graveside service will be at East Lawn Memorial Park on Sunday at 2 p.m. with co-workers and friends serving as pallbearers. Those attending the graveside service are asked to meet at the cemetery by 1:55 p.m.

Honorary pallbearers will be all kids he coached in Little League.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to New Beginnings Fellowship Church building fund, 200 Coralwood Dr., Kingsport, Tenn. 37663.

Carter-Trent Funeral Home, Kingsport is in charge of arrangements.
