Cecil "Buck" Hatfield, 88, Rose Hill, Va.
ROSE HILL, Va. - Cecil Edward "Buck" Hatfield, 88, passed away Monday (Nov. 21, 2005) at Middlesboro Appalachian Regional Hospital in Middlesboro, Ky.

He was a lifelong resident of Lee County and a farmer.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Florence Hatfield; two sons, Jerry Hatfield and Gary "Crockett" Hatfield; two grandsons and two great-grandsons; and several brothers and sisters.

Surviving are his children, Verlie Hatfield (Ada) of Rose Hill, Iva Jean Marsee (Herbert) of Martinsville, Ind., Hancel Hatfield of Rose Hill, Joyce Manis (John) of Middlesboro, Ky., Janice Cupp of Rochelle, Ill., Wilma Greer (Sam) of Ewing, Darlene Hatfield of LaFayette, Ind., Lila Warf (Gerald) of Ewing and Harold "Hoss" Hatfield (Lilly) of Ewing; 25 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; several nieces and nephews and many friends.

Calling hours are from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Arney-Mullins Funeral Home in Rose Hill, Va.

Services will be conducted at 8 p.m. Friday in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Charles H. Long officiating.

Burial will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Morgan Cemetery.

Gary "Crockett" Hatfield, 50, Rose Hill, Va.
ROSE HILL, Va. - Gary "Crockett" Hatfield, 50, passed away Tuesday (Nov. 22, 2005) at the Middlesboro Appalachian Regional Hospital in Middlesboro, Ky.

He was a lifelong resident of Lee County.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Cecil Edward "Buck" and Mary Florence Hatfield; one brother, Jerry Hatfield; two nephews and two great-nephews.

Services will be conducted at 8 p.m. Friday in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Charles H. Long officiating.

Burial will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Morgan cemetery in Rose Hill, Va.

Ruby Poff Herron, 74, Kingsport.
KINGSPORT - Ruby Poff Herron, 74, of Kingsport went to be with the Lord on Tuesday (Nov. 22, 2005) at Hillside Manor Health Care.

Born in Scott County, Va., (Gate City), Ruby had lived in this area since 1950.

She was previously employed at the Great Body Company in the nursery department.

Ruby was a member of Friendship Chapel Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Herron; her parents, Jake Poff and Mary Carter Poff; and one sister.

She is survived by her sons, Ron E. Herron and wife, Chris of Kingsport and Roger Herron and wife, Sherrie of Pawleys Island, S.C.; grandchildren, Brett Herron, Dustin Herron, Ryan Herron, Eric Herron and Heather Allen; sister, Mildred Flanary of Kingsport; brothers, Calvin Poff of Kingsport and Paul Poff of Richmond, Va.; special friend, Rev. Milligan Herron; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Friday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Scott County Funeral Home, Weber City, Va.

Services will be conducted in the funeral home chapel at 7 p.m. Friday with Rev. Wrightly Salling and Rev. Joe Hill officiating.

Interment will be conducted at Holston View cemetery on Saturday at 10 a.m..

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Melvin Weinstein Parkinson's Foundation, 1340-1272 N. Great Neck Road, #193, Virginia Beach, Va., 23454.

Carter-Trent/Scott County Funeral Home, Weber City, Va., is in charge of arrangements.

Ezra Hood, 94, Kingsport.
Graveside services for Ezra Edward Hood, 94, Pattonsville, Va., who passed away Nov. 21, 2005, will be conducted at 11 a.m. today in the Hood Family cemetery in Pattonsville, Va. Everyone is asked to meet at the cemetery for services.

Pallbearers will be Mike Dorton, Greg Hood, T.J. Hood, Jack Tomlinson, Dale Edwards and Harold Roller.

Honorary pallbearers will be his grandsons.

Robinette Funeral Home, Blackwater, Va., is in charge of arrangements.

Emily Brickey Johnson, 87, Nickelsville, Va.
NICKELSVILLE, Va. - Emily Brickey Johnson, 87, of Route 1, passed away Tuesday (Nov. 22, 2005) at Wexford House.

She was born in Scott County on April 17, 1918 and was the daughter of the late George Graham Brickey and Bessie Owens Brickey.

Mrs. Johnson was a member of Dungannon Freewill Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school for several years and attended Moores Memorial Missionary Baptist Church.

She was a charter member of the Dungannon Women's Club and served as treasurer; a member of D.H.S. Alumni Association and served one term as treasurer; a member of Dungannon Senior Citizens Club, an associate member of Holston Valley Medical Center Auxiliary and a member of Gate City Chapter No. 116 O.E.S. She worked as supervisor of the Dungannon School Cannery and for Scott County RADA doing several federal programs and garden programs for T.V.A.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William Walter Johnson (Feb. 10, 2003); son, James Fred Johnson; brother, George Graham Brickey, Jr.

Surviving are her daughter, Norma L. Daugherty and husband Glenn, Nickelsville, Va.; son, Patrick E. Johnson and wife Jewell, Nickelsville, Va.; grandchildren, Patricia Harris and husband Mark, Roger Daugherty and wife Melinda, Wendy Blodgett and husband Tony, Patrick Johnson and wife Amanda, Jonathan Johnson and wife LeAnn, Larry Frazier and wife Karen; sisters, Sona Bingham and husband Jim, Kingsport, Bonnie O. Hillman and husband Johnny, Nickelsville, Va.; brother, Donnie Brickey and wife Jenny, Ft. Blackmore, Va.; sister-in-law, June Brickey; brother-in-law, Charles Johnson and wife Ruth; great-grandchildren, Jackie Meade and husband Sam, Daniel Elliott, Andy Harris, Alex Roach, Chandler Daugherty, Corey Blodgett, Abany Johnson; great-great-grandchildren, Tyler and Haylee Hazlett, Breanna and Riley Elliott; several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours are from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Colonial Funeral Home, Weber City, Va., and anytime at the residence of Norma Daugherty and Patrick Johnson.

Services will be conducted at the funeral home chapel at 7 p.m. Friday with Rev. Steve Collins officiating.

Graveside services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Holston View Cemetery.

Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

Memorial contributions may be made to Moores Memorial Missionary Baptist Church or Dungannon Freewill Baptist Church.

William Kincaid Sr., 90, Rogersville.
ROGERSVILLE - William Anderson Kincaid, Sr., 90, died Wednesday (Nov. 23, 2005) at Sunbridge Hillside Care and Rehab Center.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by Broome Funeral Home, Rogersville.

Thelma Minton, 87, Kingsport.
KINGSPORT - Thelma "Granny" Minton, 87, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday (Nov. 23, 2005) at her home.

Mrs. Minton was born on February 11, 1918 in Russell County, Va., to the late Arthur and Ethel Kiser Rasnake. She was of the Baptist faith.

Thelma was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother and will be missed by all that knew her. "Granny" loved her family dearly. She also loved to quilt.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Minton was preceded in death by her husband, Nathan M. Minton; one daughter, Edna Belcher; four step-daughters, Lucy Hinkle, Lena Harmon, Lassie Ray and Trula Frye; five step-sons, Guy, Arthur, Clarence, Lee and Howard Minton; one sister, Roma Rasnake; and five brothers, Scott, Remire, Tives, Lee and Jim Rasnake.

She is survived by five daughters, Margie Poteat and husband Charles of Cleveland, Tenn., Rosa Harrison and husband, Fred of Bristol, Tenn., Debra Chapman and husband, Tony of Kingsport, Lola Dean of Kingsport, and Elaine Minton of Kingsport; six sons, Paul Minton and wife, Emma of Seaman, Ohio, Curt Minton and wife, Murriel of Gate City, Va., Tives Minton and wife, Wanda of Huntsville, Ala., Roy Minton and wife, Patricia of Nickelsville, Va., Steve Minton and wife, Flo of Nickelsville, Va., and Joe Minton and wife, Wanda of Chattanooga, Tenn.; 34 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Lettie Perry of Bristol, Va.; two brothers, Dewey Rasnake of Dewey, Ariz., and Carson Rasnake and wife, Jean of Lebanon, Va.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. on Friday at Oak Hill Funeral Home or anytime at the residence or the home of Steve in Nickelsville, Va.

Services will be conducted on Saturday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home chapel with Elder Eckel Head, Pastor Guy Elem and Rev. G.W. White officiating.

Mrs. Minton's grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

Graveside services will be conducted in Russell County Memorial cemetery in Lebanon, Va., immediately following the funeral service.

For those who desire, memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers in honor of Mrs. Minton to the Order of the Eastern Star in Nickelsville, Va.

Wayne T. Moody, 71, Kingsport.
KINGSPORT - Wayne T. Moody, 71, of Greene County, Tenn., formerly of Kingsport, went to be with the Lord Wednesday (Nov. 23, 2005).

He worked at Kingsport Press as a pressman and later retired from Richmond Times Dispatch in Richmond, Va. He was an avid fisherman, gardener, and piddler.

Mr. Moody was a member of Bethesda Cumberland Presbyterian Church.

He was preceded in death by his son, Terry Wayne Moody; mother, Jamie Hilton Moody and father, Herbert R. Moody Sr.; step-mother, Lea Oma Moody; and brothers, Dallas E. Moody and Donald R. Moody.

Surviving are his wife, Winona Moorefield Moody, Greene County, Tenn.; daughter, Carolyn Moody Updike and husband, Carlton, Prince George, Va.; son, Mark Duane Moody and wife Debbie, Kingsport; four grandchildren, Randy, Stacia, Michael, and Markis; two step-grandchildren, Megan and James; sisters, Francis Moody Underwood and husband David, Kingsport, Iva Nell Roberts and husband Luther, Greene County, Tenn., and Patsy Hall and husband Kenneth, Graham, N.C.; brothers, Herbert R. Moody Jr. and wife Barbara, Kingsport, Eddie Moody and wife Connie, Kingsport, Jerry Moody and wife Teresa, Blountville, Larry Moody, Kingsport, Mickey Moody, Pigeon Forge, Tenn.; sisters-in-law, Zelda Moody, Marjorie McCurry, Patricia Seaver and husband Ronald; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport.

Services will be conducted at 8 p.m. Friday in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Rocky L. Johnson and Rev. Ron Wine officiating.

Pallbearers will be nephews.

Honorary pallbearers will be grandsons and brothers.

Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Emory United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Darrell Rutledge, 55, Kingsport.
KINGSPORT - Darrell Paul Rutledge, 55, of Kingsport, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday (Nov. 23, 2005) at Church Hill Health Care Center.

Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, downtown Kingsport.

Billie Ann Skidmore, 67, Jonesville, Va.
JONESVILLE, Va. - Billie Ann Stapleton Skidmore, 67, passed away Tuesday (Nov. 22, 2005) at her residence.

She was born in Jonesville, Va., in the Long Hollow Community, December 9, 1937. She was the daughter of the late William J. and Joyce Belcher Stapleton.

She spent several years in Detroit, Mich., and returned to Lee County in 1988. She was of the Baptist faith.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William Cecil Skidmore on May 4, 2005; three brothers, Dr. Earl Stapleton, James Stapleton, and Dennis Stapleton; and two sisters, Lillian Stapleton and Betty Garrett.

Survivors include three daughters, Linda Spagnola of the home, Sandra Johns of Oak Park, Mich., and Katie Skidmore of Stickleyville, Va.; three sons, Michael Skidmore of the home, Paul Skidmore of Gaylord, Mich., and Lee Skidmore of Bristol, Va.; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and two other very special family members, son-in-law, Ron Spagnola of the home and daughter-in-law, Nancy Skidmore of Gaylord, Mich.; three sisters, Irene Smiddy of Webster, Fla., Gloria Nelson and husband, Ken of Belvidere, Ill, and Wilma Ramey of Jonesville, Va.; one brother, Don Stapleton and wife, Lois of Pennington Gap, Va.; and sister-in-law, Beatrice Stapleton of Jonesville, Va.

Calling hours are Saturday from 12 noon to 2 p.m. in the Sturgill Funeral Home in Pennington Gap, Va.

Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday with Pastor Steve Neff officiating.

Interment will follow in Lee Memorial Gardens, Woodway, Va.

Special music will be by Mike Sprinkle.

Ernest C. Taylor, 80, Kingsport.
KINGSPORT - Ernest C. Taylor, 80, went to be with the Lord surrounded by his family Monday (Nov. 21, 2005).

He was born in Scott County, Va., and had resided in Kingsport most of his life. Ernest was a heavy equipment operator having worked for various area companies.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy (Dot) Taylor in 2004; his parents; and loving siblings.

Surviving are his daughter, Frenchie Taylor Page and husband Gerald, Kingsport; son, Jerry Taylor and wife Pat, Church Hill; four grandchildren, Landon Taylor, Kingsport, Ashley Taylor and wife Rachel, Kingsport, Eric Page, Surgoinsville, Justin Page and wife Christy, Kingsport; three great-granddaughters, Jada Page, Kadance Page, and Hunter Page, all of Kingsport; one sister, Dorothy, of Lebanon, Va.; two brothers, Gene Taylor and wife Grace, Indiana and Junior Taylor and wife Kathleen, Duffield, Va.; and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours are 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport and any time at the home of his daughter, Frenchie Page.

Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home with Rev. Don McCann officiating.

Burial will follow at Emory United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers are Marty Shaffer, Alan Ward, Alvin Hunt, Kenny Carter, Jimmy Carter, and John Allen Compton.

Peggy Jo Gage Wilhelm, 71, Gray.

GRAY - Peggy Jo Gage Wilhelm, 71, passed away at home surrounded by her loving family after an extended illness on Tuesday (Nov. 22, 2005).

She was a native of Washington County and a daughter of the late Allye Marion and Charlie Gage. Peggy was an employee of the nutrition department for the University of Tennessee.

In addition to her parents, her husband, Bobby Joe Wilhelm preceded her in death.

She is survived by two sons, Roger (Deborah) Wilhelm and Gary Wilhelm, both of Atlanta, Ga.; one daughter, Tammy Arnold, Yuma, Va.; one brother and sister-in-law, Don and Frances Gage of Johnson City; two granddaughters, Amy (Joey) Dean and Lori Arnold; one grandson, Cameron Wilhelm; one nephew, Kelly Gage.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 3 p.m. Friday at the Gray Funeral Home Chapel.

Graveside services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. in the Wheeler Cemetery, Blountville. Anyone wishing to attend the graveside are asked to meet at the cemetery at 10:50 a.m.

Pallbearers will be family and friends.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the Johnson City Medical Center Hospice for all the love and care given to the family in their time of need.
