TURNER, IVA WINTER, 75, of Parrottsville, died Tuesday at Johnson City Medical Center due to an automobile accident. She was a faithful member of the Luther Memorial Lutheran Church and a charter member of the Natural Bridge Ruritan Club where she helped with many community projects. She operated a dairy farm for many years in the Harned Chapel Community where all who knew her loved her and was known for her helping of others and good cooking. She was preceded in death by her parents, Luther and Emma Winter; brother, Floyd Winter; daughter, Anna Jo Ottinger; and husbands, Everette Ottinger and Herbert “Bo” Turber. She is survived by her daughter, Nancy Cline of Parrottsville; step-children, Peggy Freshour of Newport and Jerry Turner of Clinton; sisters, Betty Nease of Parrottsville and Shirley Leach of Morristown; granddaughters and husbands, Renee and Danny Strange, Dawn and Jerry (Mickey) Johnson of Parrottsville and Michelle and Eric Knowles of Missouri; grandson, Chris Cline of Parrottsville; step-grandson, Eric Freshour of Newport; great-grandchildren, Daniel Strange, Erick Knowles and Baby Johnson due in December; step-great-granddaughter, Robyn Freshour. Funeral service will be held Friday 2:00 p.m. at the Manes Funeral Home with the Rev. Claude Villemaire officiating. Interment will be in the Harned Chapel Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-9 tonight (Thursday, Sept. 17) at the funeral Home. Manes Funeral Home in charge.

KIRKPATRICK, WILLIE NELSON, age 78, of the Persia Community, Rogersville, passed away Wednesday, September 16, 1998, at Heritage Manor Nursing Home, following an extended illness. He was a member of Persia Baptist Church. He was a retired carpenter. He was preceded in death by his wife, Martha Kirkpatrick; parents, Charlie and Lucy Kirkpatrick; brother, John Brown Kirkpatrick. He is survived by several nieces and nephews; special friends, Johnny and Loretta White and family of Rogersville. Funeral services will be held 8:00 p.m. Friday, September 18, 1998, at Colboch-Price Chapel with Rev. Doug Harris officiating. Graveside services will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, September 19, 1998, in Persia Methodist Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Friday, prior to the service at Colboch-Price Funeral Home in Rogersville. Colboch-Price Funeral Home in charge.

COBBLE, MYRTLE LEE, age 96, of Alcoa, passed away Friday, September 25, 1998 at Heritage Center. Funeral services were Sunday, 8:00 p.m. at Westside Chapel with Rev. J.B. Gulley officiating. Graveside service was Monday 10:00 a.m. in the Clarks Grove Cemetery, Maryville, TN. Westside Chapel Funeral Home, Morristown, in charge of arrangement.

KENNEY, HAZEL COWARD, 88, passed away Sunday, Sept. 27, 1998 in Heritage Manor in Rogersville. She was preceded in death by her husband Rex Wayland Kenney; parents, William and Bertha Coward; brother, W.J. Coward Jr., and sister, Agnes C. Young. She was a life long member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church; a member of Delta Kappa Gamma; the Order of the Eastern Star, Chapter 471, and the V.F.W. Auxiliary. She was a graduate of Tusculum College and received her Masters Degree in Education from East Tennessee State University. She considered it an honor to teach in Hawkins County schools for fifty years. She also taught at Harrison Chilhowee Academy in Seymour. She is survived by one brother, Walter S.. Coward of St. Clair; nieces, Billie S. Sutherland, Betsy R. Michel, Jackie A. Carnes, Audrey Gilliam, Betty Joe Norton, Rebecca Buchanan, Becky Goodson, and Billie S. Kennedy; nephews, Robert L. Young, Samuel Young Jr., William F. Young, and Stanley Coward; several great-nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends Monday from 6-8 p.m. at Wilson Funeral Home. Eastern Star service will be held at 8:00 p.m. conducted by O.E.S. Chapter 471. Graveside service will be held Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. at McCollough Cemetery with Rev. Don Davis and Rev. Charles Day officiating.. Memorial gifts may be made to Mt. Zion Church, or to Walters State Community College, Attn: Mrs. Arlene Snowden, 500 South Davy Crockett, Morristown, TN., 37813-6899. KERR, EDITH G., passed away 9:00 p.m. Saturday, September 26, 1998 at her residence, after a brief illness. Member of Calvary Baptist Church of Jefferson City; retired employee of Johnson Spring Factory after several years of service. Preceded in death by parents, Tom and Juanita Lawrence Kerr; sisters, Elizabeth Kerr Moody, Mildred Kerr Rogers, June Kerr, and Jill Kerr; brothers, Kenneth and Jack Kerr; devoted brother-in-law, Curtis Jones. Survived by sister, Jean Jones of Jefferson City; sister and brother-in-law, Peggy and Hymie Gordon of Pigeon Forge; sister, Carolyn Sisti of Buffalo, N.Y.; brothers and sisters-in-law, Tommy and Martha Kerr of Tampa, FL., and Johnny and Jackie Kerr of Jefferson City, TN.; aunt, Sally Lawrence Rose of New Market; several nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. Funeral services 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 29, 1998 at Farrar’s Jefferson City Chapel, with Rev. Bill Crider, Rev. Coy Warren, and Rev. Lester Byrd officiating. Family and friends will gather 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, September 30, 1998 at Farrar Funeral Home to proceed to Jefferson Memorial Gardens for a 11:00 a.m. interment service. Pallbearers will be the Deacons of Calvary Baptist Church. Family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6-8 p.m. prior to funeral services. REED, EDWARD LYNN, 51, of 733 Beulah St., Morristown, passed away Saturday, Sept. 26, 1998 in Lakeway Regional Hospital, following a brief illness. He was of the Baptist faith. He was preceded in death by his father, Fuller Reed. Survivors include his wife, Wanda Poe Reed, of the home; mother and step-father, Fayrene and Bo Leonard of Morristown; brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Maria Reed of Eureka, CA.; special nephew, Shawn Reed of Johnson City; 3 sisters-in-law and 2 brothers-in-law, Juanita Trent of Whitesburg, Edna and Kenneth Bryant of Morristown, Dorothy and Roy Harmon of Bulls Gap; Several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be held Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. at Wilson Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Leroy Forgety and Rev.. Hubert Bunch officiating.. Interment will be in Weems Chapel Cemetery. SMITH, RUBY LEE WEST, age 84, of 5740 Charlene Drive, Russellville, passed away Saturday, September 26, 1998 at Heritage Center. She was a charter member of Fernwood Baptist Church and served as clerk of the church for over 50 years. She is preceded in death by her husband, John Henry Smith. Survivors include: daughters, Sue Wassum of Russellville, Georgia Huntsinger of California; son, Randy Smith of Morristown; brother, James West of Morristown; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 29, 1998 at Mayes Mortuary with Rev. Charles Smith and Rev. O’Dell Davidson officiating. Graveside services will be at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday at Hamblen Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday evening prior to the services at the mortuary. Mayes Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

WINSTEAD, LUTHER, age 75, of 1211 East Old A.J. Hwy. Talbott, TN., formerly of Rogersville, passed away Sunday, October 4, 1998, at Morristown-Hamblen Hospital after an extended illness. He was a member of Henard’s Chapel Baptist Church and was retired from Phillips Magnavox after 30 years of service. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Oma Price Winstead and three brothers, Carl, Frank and Walter Winstead. He is survived by his wife, Beatrice Winstead of the home; one son, Billy Joe Winstead of Rogersville; two daughters, Mrs. David (Barbara) Greer and Mrs. Paul (Debbie) Bledsoe of Rogersville; two step-sons, Danny Feagins of Kingsport and Dennis Feagins of Fla.; one sister, Mrs. Bennie Burton of Rogersville; seven grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends anytime at the residence of Barbara and David Greer, 740 Caney Creek Road, Rogersville and from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 6, 1998 at Colboch-Price Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at Colboch-Price Chapel with Rev. Onzie Gillmore and Rev. Anthony Taylor officiating. Graveside services will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 7, 1998 at Courtney Cemetery. Colboch-Price Funeral Home in Rogersville is in charge of the arrangements.

ORR, LINDA F., age 43, of Morristown, passed away October 5, 1998 at Morristown-Hamblen Healthcare. Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by Mayes Mortuary.

STAPLETON, MR. DANA C., age 79, of Jefferson City, passed away 4:45 p.m. Monday, October 5, 1998 at Jefferson Memorial Hospital after an extended illness. Funeral announcements to be announced later. BARNARD, GLENN EARNEST SR., age 85, of Mohawk, passed away Sunday, Oct. 4, 1998, at Mt. Home. He was the son of the late I.J. and Kate Barnard and was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Arnott Barnard; sister, Jewel Hipshire and daughter, Patricia Fuller. He was an Army veteran of World War II. Survivors: children, Glenn E. Barnard Jr., and his wife, Tracy of Mohawk, Carolyn Fellers and her husband, Charlie of Mosheim, Garry Barnard and his wife Kathy of Mohawk; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The family extends special thanks to the doctors and nurses at James H. Quillen Medical Center in Johnson City: Dr. Dan Rush, Dr. Jerome Canady, Dr. Joey Payne, Dr. Crystal Southerland and nurses in SICU: Linda Reed, Brenda Hargrove and Karen Plante. Funeral services 7:00 p.m. Tuesday at Stubblefield Funeral Home with Rev. Richard Long and Rev. George Davis officiating. Family and friends will meet 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at Philippi Cemetery for interment with military graveside honors by V.F.W. Post 5266. The family will receive friends 2-4 p.m. and 5-7 p.m. Tuesday at Stubblefield Funeral Home in Morristown. Stubblefield Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

YOUNG, JOSEPH M., of Morristown, formerly of Jefferson City, passed away Saturday, October 3, 1998, at the V.A. Hospital in Johnson City, TN. Funeral services will be Tuesday, 8:00 p.m. at Westside Chapel Funeral Home with Dr. Richard Emmert and Thomas R. Gregory officiating. Graveside services conducted by VFW Post 5266 will be Wednesday, 11:00 a.m. in the Jefferson Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Westside Chapel Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
