ROYSTON, STELLA WHALEY, age 70 of Russellville passed away Tuesday, Oct. 20, 1998. She was a member of Tampico Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by parents J.M. and Louisa Whaley; husband Chester Royston; granddaughter Cynthia Witt; two sisters and five brothers. Survivors: daughters and their husbands, Mildred Gann and Frank of White Pine, Brenda Anderson and Harvey of Straw Plains, Christine Witt of Russellville with whom she made her home; grandchildren, Teresa Johnson, Billy Beeler, Russell Witt, Terry Collins, Amanda Chandler; five great-grandchildren; sisters, Frances West of Dandridge, Ruby Jean Harb of Morristown; brothers, Raymond Whaley of Rutledge, Bernard Whaley of Morristown. Funeral services 2 p.m. Saturday at Stubblefield Funeral Home with Rev. Billy Kyle Wilson and Rev. Lester Mullins officiating. Interment in Jefferson Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. Friday at Stubblefield Funeral Home in Morristown.

HECK, CARL “WIMPEY”, 76 of Whitesburg passed away Tuesday Oct. 20, 1998. He was retired from Berkline and had worked at Tennessee Furniture. Funeral service will be 8 p.m. Thursday. Interment will be 11 a.m. Friday in Hamblen Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Stubblefield Funeral Home in Morristown.

HELTON, DAVID C. age 83, of Morristown, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 21, 1998 at Jefferson Memorial Hospital. He was a member of Central Baptist Church and an Army veteran of World War II. He was born April 5, 1915, to the late Alexander and Maggie Mae Helton. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, William H. and Roy E. Helton; sister, Mary Alice Helton Skeen. Survivors include: sister, Evelyn Quinton; sister and brother-in-law, Vaughtie and Ralph Oaten; brother, Jim Helton of Morristown; brother and sister-in-law, S.G. (Sam) and Eula Helton of Clinton, TN.; sisters-in-law, Elizabeth Helton of Morristown, Edith Helton of Talbott; several nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be conducted on Friday, Oct. 23, at 2 p.m. in the Hamblen Memory Garden Cemetery. The Rev. Bobby Helton will officiate. The family will receive friends from 6:30 until 8:30 p.m. Thursday at Mayes Mortuary. Mayes Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

CRAWFORD, DOYLE, age 83, of Jefferson City, died Sunday, Oct. 18, 1998 at Jefferson City Health and Rehab Center following an extended illness. He was of the Presbyterian faith and was preceded in death by his parents and siblings. Graveside funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday morning, October 23, 1998, in the Oakland Baptist Church Cemetery (Grainger County) with Reverend Jerry Colbert officiating. Friends may call at their convenience between the hours of 12:00 noon and 5 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Arrangements by Farrar Funeral Home, 411 W. HOPPER, SYLLUS, age 89, of Rutledge, passed away at UT Medical Center on October 21, 1998. Mr. Hopper was a member of Southside Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Eston Hopper, Roy Hopper and sister, Della Burchell. He is survived by wife, Dorothy Hopper; daughter, Glenda Bivins and six grandchildren; nieces, Pauline Burchell, Doris Langston. Funeral services will be held Friday at 8 p.m. with Rev. Dale Harris and Rev. Daryl Williams officiating in the Smith Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at Helton Springs Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Smith Funeral Home in Rutledge is in charge of arrangements.

RICKER, RUBY ELLA, born Dec. 28, 1929 in Washington, D.C. died Wednesday, Oct. 21, 1998 at Takoma Adventist Hospital in Greeneville, TN. She was a homemaker at 139 Sunny Meadow Lane, Greeneville (the Sunnyside community.) The family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. Thursday and Friday at Kiser Funeral Home. Services will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 24, 1998 at Kiser Funeral Home, Greeneville, TN. Interment will be at Mt. Hebron Cemetery. Kiser Funeral Home in Greeneville is in charge of arrangements.

TRENT, RALPH OTIS, age 52, of Decatur, TN. passed away Wednesday October 21, 1998 at his home due to cancer. He was a truck driver and the former owner of Christina’s Steak House. A native of Sneedville he had lived in Decatur for about 11 years. He was a member of the Meigs Lodge No. 213 F & A.M., Athena Council No. 118., McMinn Chapter No. 74, Athens Commandory No. 34; a son of the late Dana Harmon and Lilly Pearl Jarvis Trent. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Ulys Seal and Homer Seal. He was a member of Yellow Branch Baptist Church in Sneedville. Survivors: wife, Wanda Faye Johnson Trent of Decatur; three daughters and one son-in-law, Rhonda Helton of Decatur, Cathy Siler of Decatur, Christina and Jody Crisp of Decatur; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Bobby Trent and Lisa Simpson of Rogersville, Eddie and Tammy Trent of Bean Station, TN., Ralph Trent Jr. of Decatur; eight grandchildren, Ashley Helton, Becky Trent, Ariel Trent, Joseph Siler, Jody Jr. Crisp, Michael Crisp, Stone Trent, Brandon Trent; brother, James Jr. Seal of Morristown; sister, Hazel Greene of Sneedville; nine nieces and nephews. Funeral services 2 p.m. Saturday October 24, 1998 at the Yellow Branch Baptist Church. Rev. Owen McCloud and Rev. Howard Johnson officiating. Interment in the Trent Cemetery. JONES, CARRIE REED, age 58, of Morristown, passed away June 14, 1999 at Morristown-Hamblen Healthcare System. She was a member of Corner Stone Missionary Baptist Church. Preceded in death by her husband, Jessie Maurice Jones; parents, Connie and Bessie Reed and three brothers. Survivors: sons, Scotty Gulley of Greeneville, Jerry and Kenny Gulley of Morristown; daughter, Becky Brice of Morristown; step-son and daughter-in-law, David M. and Dorothy Jones of Morristown; step-daughter and son-in-law, Sharron and Jerry Testerman of Morristown; grandchil-dren, Jason, Chris and Latasha Price, Whitney, Brittany and Nicholas Gulley; step-grandchildren, Jeff and wife (Tracy) Jones, Jennifer Hayes, Eddie Jones and Sammy Jones; great-grandchildren, Corey and Amanda Jones; sisters, Louise Monk of Mosheim, Helen Gregg of Parrottsville, Bobbie Slocum of South Bend, Ind.; several nieces and nephews. Services will be 8 p.m. Thursday at Mayes Mortuary Chapel with Revs. Jay Brady and Chris Davis officiating. Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Friday in Hamblen Memory Gardens. COWAN, CLAUDE WILLIAM, 83, Morristown, passed away Sunday, June 13, 1999 at Morristown-Hamblen Healthcare System. He was a retired plasterer and drywall finisher. Funeral services will be Monday, June 14, 1999 at Westside Chapel at 8 p.m, with Rev. Garland James officiating. A graveside service will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Jefferson Memorial Gardens. Family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. prior to services at the mortuary. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Panther Springs United Methodist Church, 4555 West Andrew Johnson Highway, Morristown, TN., 37814. Westside Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

FARMER, JAMES T., age 82, of 414 Oak St., passed away early this morning at Morristown-Hamblen Healthcare System. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 7-9 p.m. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m., with Thomas B.Owen and J.B. Gulley officiating. Westside Chapel Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

FUNK, ARLOLA (BUCKY), age 79, of Carrboro, N.C., formerly of Morristown, passed away Saturday, June 12, 1999 peacefully at her home. Mrs. Funk proudly served as a Captain in the Army Nurses Corp during World War II and the Korean Conflict. She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald A. Funk; parents, Clay and Ethel Buckner; and sisters, Azalia Comfort and Aradia Overholt. Survivors: son and daughter-in-law, Timothy and Koren Funk of Carrboro, N.C.; sister and brother-in-law, Lerneda Buckner and H. D. Buckner of Knoxville; nieces, Anne Chandler of Knoxville, Alison Buckner, M.D., of Baltimore, Md. and Roberta Leichty of Evansville, Ind.; nephew, Dooley Buckner of Knoxville; many other nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Mayes Mortaury with Richard Goodman officiating. Military graveside services by V.F.W. Post No. 5266 to follow in Union Cemetery in Newport. The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at the mortuary. Mayes Mortuary in Morristown is in charge of arrangements.

MARSH, LETCHER RAY, age 77, of Rutledge, passed away at Jefferson Memorial Hospital on June 14, 1999. He was a member of Noah’s Chapel American Christian Church. Mr. Marsh was a veteran of the US Army and served in WWII. He was preceded in death by his wife, Polly Juanita Marsh. Survivors are: son, C.A. Marsh of Rutledge; granddaughters, Kathy Noe and husband Sam of Strawberry Plains, Barbara Bradley and husband Tim of Talbott; great-grandchildren, John and Daniel Noe, Andrew and Kalynn Bradley; brother, Eugene Marsh of Loudon; half-brothers and sisters, Neita, J.G. and Evelyn of Knoxville; and several others of South Carolina; several nieces and nephews, and special friend, Judy Merritt of Rutledge. A special thanks to Tracy Hopkins, LPN, at Jefferson Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 8 p.m. at the Smith Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Hollis Dunsmore officiating. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. prior to the service. Graveside services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at Grainger Memorial Gardens. Smith Funeral Home, Rutledge, is in charge of arrangements.
