GIBSON, BOBBIE JEAN WOLFE, 51, of 2342 Meadow Branch Rd., Bean Station, passed away early this morning at her home. Arrangements to be announced later by Westside Chapel Funeral Home.

LEEDY, VIRGINIA READ, age 82, of Bean Station, passed away Sunday, March 21, 1999, at her home. Mrs. Leedy was a long time educator and friend of Grainger County having served as Grainger County School Superintendent and as principal, assistant principal, guidance counselor and teacher at Rutledge High School for over 40 years before her retirement in 1985. In 1997, she was inducted into the Tennessee Teachers Hall of Fame as one of a very elite group of Tennessee educators. She a member of Rutledge Methodist Church and had been active in various community organizations including the Rutledge Womens Club, Grainger County Retired Teachers, American Legion Auxiliary, V.F.W. Auxiliary and the Regional Library Board. Mrs. Leedy was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Xan Ray Leedy. He is survived by her son, Hal Read Leedy of Ephrata, Washington; her daughter and son-in-law, Gregg and Susan Luker of Bean Station; grandchildren, Taver Leedy, Sarah Leedy, Jared Corum, Kate Luker and one great-grandchild, Gracie Leedy. Funeral services for Mrs. Leedy will be held Tuesday, March 23, 1999 at 8:00 p.m. in the Smith Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jeff Wright officiating. Graveside services will be held Wednesday morning at 11:00 a.m. in the Harrell Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6-8 p.m. and on Tuesday evening from 6-8 p.m. with the service to follow at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Virginia Leedy Scholarship Fund, in care of Citizens Bank and Trust Company, P.O. Box 98, Rutledge, TN. 37861. Smith Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

LARSON, ROGER WAYNE, age 59, of Mooresburg, passed away Saturday, March 20, 1999 at U.T. Hospital in Knoxville. Born in Binford, North Dakota, a veteran of the U.S. Army and a retired mechanic. He is preceded in death by his parents, Verna and Arthur Larson. He is survived by his wife, Loretta Larson; daughter and sons-in-law, Lora and Sam O’Connor of Anchorage, Alaska, Kim and Steve Bray of Blaine, TN.; son and daughter-in-law, Artie and Kim Larson of Frankfort, Indiana; 3 granddaughters; 2 grandsons; sister, Gladys Hunter of Frankfort, IN.; brothers, Stanley Larson of Russiaville, IN., Robert Larson of Deluth, MN., Gary Larson of Moorehead, MN. Funeral services 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Mooresburg Chapel of Stubblefield Funeral Home with Rev. Gene Bowlin officiating. The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Mooresburg Chapel of Stubblefield Funeral Home. Stubblefield Funeral Home in charge.

LOWE, GLADYS R., 77, 1800 Collinson Ford Road, Morristown, passed away early this morning at Morristown-Hamblen Healthcare Systems. Arrangements to be announced later by Westside Chapel Funeral Home.

MILLS, HAROLD (POP), age 68, of Swans Marina in Dandridge, died Sunday, March 21, 1999, at Jefferson City Health and Rehab. He was an avid flea market enthusiast. He was preceded in death by his ex-wife, Beatrice Mills; parents, Rev. Ollie and Katie Mills; brothers, Rev. Bill Mills and James T. Mills; sister, Ruth Mills; brother-in-law, Jay Allison and Dewey Baker. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Charlene and Delbert Caldwell of Morristown; daughters, Betty , Alma and Cindy Mills, all of Lenoir City; sisters, Della Baker, Kate Allison and Viola Mills, all of Lenoir City; grandchildren, Dustin and Wendy Blazer, Andy Smith, Heather Jones and Dillan Johnson; special nephews, Clarence Allison and Petie Baker; special niece, Bonnie Maples. Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Manes Funeral Chapel, with burial in Resthaven Memorial Garden. The Family will receive friends Tuesday evening 7-9 at Manes Funeral Home. Manes Funeral Home in charge.

SIMMONS, NANNIE B., age 79, of Morristown, passed away Sunday, March 21, 1999, at Lakeway Regional Hospital. Funeral services will be Wednesday, 2:00 p.m. at Westside Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. J.B. Gulley officiating. Interment to follow in the Noeton Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Westside Chapel Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

THOMASON, PATRICK E., age 46, of Morristown, passed away on March 19, 1999 at Vanderbilt Hospital. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and retired from General Electric. He was preceded in death by his mother, Dora Jean Thomason. Survivors include, wife, Rhonda Thomason, of Morristown; son, Timothy Thomason, of Morristown; father, Robert E. Thomason, of Sevierville; one sister; one brother. Funeral services for Mr. Thomason will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday at Calvary Baptist Church. The Rev. Sid Nichols and Rev. Jeffrey Harvel will officiate. Entombment will be at the Hamblen Memory Gardens. The family of Mr. Thomson will receive friends from 1 until 2 p.m. Tuesday at Calvary Baptist Church prior to the services. Mayes Mortuary is in charge of the arrangements.

MILLS, JAMES HENRY and ANNA LAURA, age 63, of Morristown, passed away March 18, 1999 in Florida. They were members of Enterprise Baptist Church, where he was Sunday School Director, and she was Sunday School Nursery attendant and adopted Grandmother to all the children at Enterprise Church. Mr. Mills was a member of Masonic Lodge #390 F&AM, and he was preceded in death by his parents, Henry Clay and Lillie Mae Mills. Mrs. Mills was preceded in death by her father, Roy Horner; brothers, James, Stanley, J.W., Thomas Dewey, and Roy Horner, Jr. Survivors: son and daughter-in-law, Dennis and Vickie Mills of Morristown; daughter and son-in-law, Denise and Kent Biggs of Morristown; grandchildren, Jerod and Jacob Mills, Seth and Sloane Biggs. Mr. Mills was survived by a brother, Cecil Mills of Morristown. Mrs. Mills was survived by her mother, Hannah Horner of Jefferson City; sisters, Edna Bennett of Brooklet, Ga., Rosa Kinder of Jefferson City, Maggie Gilliam of Jefferson City; brothers, Ray Horner of Morristown, DeWitt Horner of Jefferson City, Mack Horner of Mt. Morris, IL., and Haskell Horner of Louisville, KY. They were also survived by several nieces and nephews. Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Mayes Mortuary Chapel with Revs. Jim Turner, I.A. Sparks, and Frank Roger Spoone officiating. Interment will be in St. Paul Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday at the mortuary. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Enterprise Baptist Church Building Fund. Mayes Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

WOOD, LAVENIA H., of Bean Station, wife of the late Eugene H. Wood III, died March 21, 1999. She was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. John B. Holloway of Rutherford College, N.C. Mrs. Wood was a member of the Abernathy Memorial United Methodist Church of Rutherford College, N.C. She was the first volunteer in Hamblen County for the Reach to Recovery Program sponsored by the American Red Cross. Mrs. Wood was also past president of the Hamblen County Women’s Democrat Committee and served on the Hamblen County Democrat Executive Committee. She was preceded in death by a brother, Joseph B. Holloway of Wilmington, N.C.; sister-in-law, Cecil Coffey and brother-in-law, Sloan (Tony) Wood of Morganton, N.C. Survivors include her children, John and Marlys Wood of Talbott, Eugene IV and Alice Wood of Rutherford College, N.C. and Nina W. Davis, also of Rutherford College, N.C.; nine grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. Graveside services 11 a.m. Wednesday in Hamblen Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends 7 to 9 Tuesday evening at Stetzer Funeral Home in Morristown. Friends wishing to express sympathy may do so through memorial donations to the American Cancer Society or St. Jude Medical Center, Memphis, Tenn. Stetzer Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

TRENT, WALTER D., 85, of Sneedville, passed away Sunday, March 21, 1999 at the Morristown Healthcare System. He was a member of Trent Valley Baptist Church. He was the son of the late Arthur and Linda Trent. Survivors are children, Eugene Jr. and Dewey Trent, both of Morristown; Curtis Trent of Sneedville; Ruth Trent of Morristown; Linda Trent of Maine; Mae Trent of Bulls Gap; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; brother, Gaston Trent of Sneedville; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 23, 1999, at Trent Valley Baptist Church with the Rev. Bob Davis officiating. Interment will be in the Trent Cemetery. Family will receive friends Monday, March 22, 1999, from 6 to 9 at the McNeil Funeral Home. McNeil Funeral Home in Sneedville is in charge of arrangements.

SEAL, JAMES S. “CHISEL”, 74, of Sneedville, passed away Saturday, March 20, 1999 at the Morristown-Hamblen Hospital in Morristown. He was of the Baptist faith. He was a World War II veteran. He was preceded in death by his parents, Wylie and Dona Seal; brother, Will Seal; sisters, Mary Long and Martha Burchett. Survivors include son, Rev. Jimmy Ray Seal of Austin, Texas; sisters, Addie Williams and Edna Burchett, both of Sneedville; Thelma Trent of Dalton, Ga.; Dora Johnson of Rogersville; Ruth Nichols of Franklin, Ohio; grandchildren, Ashley, Ginger and Jonathan Seal; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services 2 p.m., Tuesday, March 23, 1999, at the McNeil Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Orbin Johnson will officiate. Interment will be in the Ferguson Cemetery. Family will receive friends Monday, March 22, 1999, from 6 to 9 at the McNeil Funeral Home in Sneedville. McNeil Funeral Home in Sneedville is in charge of arrangements.

BANKS, ROBERT LEE SR., 71, a native of Jefferson County, passed away Wednesday, March 10, 1999 at Fort Sanders Medical Center. Funeral service 2 p.m. Saturday at Fielden Chapel with Rev. Henry Davidson officiating. Interment in Westview Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday 6-8 p.m. at Fielden Funeral Home, New Market. Fielden Funeral Home in charge.
