BEASLEY, DR. WALLACE M. Jr., 62, of Savannah, died March 5, 1999 at his residence. He was born in Savannah, GA., and attended Armstrong Atlantic State University, Georgia Southern College and Oglethorpe University. He received a Master of Arts Degree in Philosophy and a Doctorate Degree in English Education from the University of Tennessee. He was a member of the Georgia Poetry Society and had several poems and short articles published. He was a member of the Georgia Philosophical Association. He taught at different Colleges and Universities in Tennessee, Kentucky, Florida, and Georgia. For the past 10 years, he had taught English and Philosophy at Armstrong Atlantic State University. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Alice Satterfield-Beasley, Savannah, GA.; daughter, Celeste Cooper of Knoxville, Tennessee; son, Jody Beasley of Springfield, Virginia; step-daughter, Michelle Cutillo of Sarasota, Fla.; father, Wallace M. Beasley Sr., of Savannah, GA,; sister, MaryAnn Beasley, Savannah, Ga.; 1 grandson and 4 nieces. Memorial services: 11 a.m. Saturday, March 13, 1999 at the Unitarian Universal Church of Savannah, 307 East Harris St., Savannah, GA. 31401. Hubert C. Baker Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. BURCHETT, HAROLD RAYMOND, age 77, of Morristown, passed away Monday, March 8, 1999 at Morristown-Hamblen Hospital. He was retired from Roadway Express, also served in the United States Army. He was preceded in death by his wife, Evangeline Burchett and parents, Charles I. and Lucy Mae Burchett; brother, James Burchett and sister, Edith Williams. Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Wayne and Peggy Burchett; grandchildren, Angelia, Melissa, Michael and Stephanie, of Morristown; half-sister, Marilyn Myers of Rogersville; half-brothers, Paul, Neslie and Oscar Crockett of IN., and Ralph Crockett of VA.; sister-in-law, Bertha Burchett. Funeral services will be Thursday, 1:00 p.m. at Westside Chapel with Rev. Terry Bunch officiating. Interment to follow in the Jefferson Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Westside Chapel Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

ELMORE, TIVIS IRENE, 84, of Strawberry Plains, passed away Monday, March 8, 1999, at her
home. She was a member of Beaver Creek Baptist Church. Survived by husband, Isaac Elmore; sons, Huble, Ralph and Lonnie Elmor, all of Strawberry Plains; 5 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; brother, S.G. Busler of Knoxville; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services 8 p.m. Tuesday at Fielden Chapel with Rev. Donnie Hankins officiating. Interment 11 a.m. Wednesday at Beaver Creek Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday 6-8 p.m., at Fielden Funeral Home, New Market. Fielden Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

HICKMAN, NETTIE L,. of Jefferson City, formerly of Strawberry Plains, passed away Monday morning, March 8, 1999, at her residence in Jefferson City following an extended illness. WATKINS, JASPER R. “JACK”, age 64, of Morristown, passed away Monday, March 8, 1999, at Morristown Hamblen Hospital. He was a member and treasurer of First Corinthians Missionary Baptist Church; a Mason and was retired from Magnavox. Preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. A.M. Watkins; wife, Evelyn Churchman Watkins; brothers, A.B. Watkins and Henry E. Watkins. Survivors include his wife, Laura Watkins; step-son, Randall Gibson; grandchildren, Becky and Steve Fugate, Angela and Rev. James Ramsey; great-grandchildren, Cody and Megan Fugate, Natalee and Nicholas Ramsey; sister-and brother- in-law, Mary and John Northem; brothers and sisters-in-law, Fred Watkins, Wayne and Arlene Watkins, Lynn and Martha Watkins; several nieces and nephews Funeral services 10:00 a.m. Wednesday at First Corinthians Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Doug Atkins and Rev. Jay Brady officiating. Interment in Hamblen Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at Stubblefield Funeral Home in Morristown. JOHNSON, COY EVERETT, age 76, of Whitesburg, died Sunday, March 7, 1999. He was a member of Temple Baptist Church and was preceded in death by his wife, Unamae. Survivors: daughter and son-in-,law, Marie and Larry Edgecomb, Whitesburg; sons, Larry Johnson, Rogersville, George Johnson, Whitesburg; grandchildren, Tom Wedding, Whitesburg, Keith Johnson and Kelly Johnson, Bulls Gap; special friends, Estelle Collins, Whitesburg, Linda Johnson, Bulls Gap. Funeral services 1:00 p.m. Wednesday at Stubblefield Funeral Home with Rev. Darrell Hall officiating. Interment in Hamblen Memory Gardens. STROUD, CLAUDE BROWN, of Solomon Rd., Mohawk, TN., born March 10, 1907 in Greene County, TN., passed away March 9, 1999 in Laughlin Memorial Hospital. He was a farmer and former custodian at McDonald School. Funeral services will be Thursday, 11:00 a.m. at Fairview Baptist Church. Interment in Fairview Baptist Church Cemetery. TERRY, JANELLA, age 85, of Knoxville, formerly of Dandridge, TN., passed away Sunday evening March 7, 1999 at Northhaven Health Care Center following a long illness. She was born Jan. 13, 1914 and was the daughter of the late Wm. Delozier and Lettie Parrott Terry. She is survived by a nephew, Gerald W. Terry Sr., of New Smyrna Beach, FL. Funeral services Tuesday, March 9, 1999 at 7:00 p.m. at Farrar Funeral Home Chapel (Dandridge) with Rev. Jerry Colbert officiating. Family will receive friends Tuesday evening 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. prior to services. WACHTEL, MARY ALLENE, age 82, of Bean Station, passed away Monday, March 8, 1999 at her home. She was born in Staunton, VA., Mary Wachtel was President of Kingswood, a Christian Children’s Home. She became president after the death of her beloved husband, John P. Wachel. “Miss Mary” and “Mr. John” worked with the founder, Dr. A.E. Wachtel, serving the needs of children, in his area, for over 60 years. Kingswood was “Ms. Mary’s Life.” She was a devoted Christian, who loved her work with hundreds of boys and girls who were helped at Kingswood. She is preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Myrtle Pelt; her husband, John P. Wachtel, former president of Kingswood School; two sons, John E. Wachtel and Phillip A. Wachtel; a brother, T.W. Pelt; a grandson, Richard D. Ray and a son-in-law, John R. Ray and a great-granddaughter, Kaitlyn M. Copeland. Survivors: daughters, Villa M. Ray of Tampa, Fl., Joan A,. Denton and husband, J. P. Denton of Morristown; sister, Dorothy M. Pelt of Heritage Center of Morristown; eleven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren A Celebration of her life will be held at Kingswood Memorial Chapel, Kingswood Campus, Hwy. 11W, Bean Station on Wednesday, March 10, 1999 at 2 p.m. The body will lie in state on hour prior to the services. The services will be officiated by Steve Walker, Pastor, Kingswood Chapel and Thomas James, Pastor, Alpha Baptist Church, Morristown. Interment will follow in Jarnagin Cemetery, in Morristown. Pallbearers will be grandsons, Ron Ray, Allen Wachtel. Bruce Plum, John Copeland, Dale Singley and son-in-law, J.P. Denton. The family will receive friends on Tuesday March 9, 1999 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Mayes Mortuary, 444 West Main Street, Morristown, TN. WILLIAMS, HELEN LOUISE, age 74, of 519 Sycamore Street, Morristown, passed away March 8, 1999. She was a member of Grace Baptist Church and a retired LPN from Morristown Hamblen Hospital. Preceded in death by her parents, Herbert and Lucy McManaway; brothers, H.B. and Walter McManaway. Survivors are husband, James E. Williams of Morristown; sons and daughters-in-law, Max and Janet Williams of Morristown, Jimmy and Jeanette Williams of Laurel, Miss.; sister, Mildred Marsee of Middlesboro, Ky.; grandchildren, Katie and Casey Williams of Morristown, Connie and Scott Mathney of Laurel, Miss., Danielle and Jimmy Baker of Walls, Miss.; great grandchildren, William and Bailee Mathney and Brett Baker; several nieces and nephews. Services will be 2 p.m., Wednesday at Mayes Mortuary with Rev. Stan Chaney officiating. Interment will be in Hamblen Memory Gardens. BEWLEY, LONA, age 90, of Russellville, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, February 25th at Morristown-Hamblen Healthcare System. She was born on January 9, 1909 in Pardee, Virginia. She was a charter member and one of the founders of the Russellville Church of God. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Ralph D. Bewley; son, R.C. Lipton and grandson, Scot Westmoreland. Survivors; sons, Rev. R.B. Bewley of Tullahoma, Bob Bewley of Rogersville, Jack Bewley of Russellville, Don Bewley of Whitesburg, J.R. Bewley of Morristown; daughters, Louise Walker of Russellville, Betty Jones and Patsy Johnson of Morristown; 28 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren; brother, Frank Creech Jr., of LaFollette, TN; sister, Dorothy Benton of KY.; several nieces and nephews. Services will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Russellville Church of God with Rev.’s William Gardner and Roger Rigney and Robert Hamilton officiating. Graveside services to follow in Hamblen Memory Gardens with Rev. George Davis officiating. The body will lie in state at the church 30 minutes prior to the service. The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday at Mayes Mortuary. Mayes Mortuary in charge of arrangements.

BRAZAS, ROE M., born March 14, 1923 of Batavia, Illinois, formerly of Morristown, passed away Thursday, Feb. 25 199 in Batavia, Illinois. service will be held 10:00 a.m. Saturday at Stubblefield Funeral Home in Morristown. Interment in Hamblen Memory Gardens. Family will receive friends 9-10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Stubblefield Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
