CREEL, MR. CECIL NATHANIAL , age 64, of Jefferson City, TN., passed away Feb. 9, 1999 at University of Tennessee Hospital. The family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. Thursday at Coffey Funeral Home in Tazewell. Funeral service 11:00 a.m. Friday at Coffey Funeral Home Chapel in Tazewell, TN. Burial in the Yeary Cemetery in Middlesboro, KY. Coffey Funeral Home in charge of services.

HIGH, MR. CAREY MICHAEL (MIKE) Sr., 58, of Shelbyville, died Tuesday, Feb. 9, 1999 at the National Health Care Center in Murfreesboro after an extended illness. He was a native of Memphis, Tennessee; former resident of Columbus, Georgia and Morristown, Tennessee; retired manager of United Cities Gas Co. (Shelbyville and Columbus,Georgia); Bedford County Zoning Compliance Officer; past president of the Shelbyville Chamber of Commerce and the Morristown Chamber of Commerce; member of the Shelbyville Rotary Club; past president of the Kiwanis Club of Morristown; on the Board of Directors of the Morristown Boys Club; a veteran of the U.S. Navy and a member of First Baptist Church of Shelbyville.He was the son of Pauline McGee High of Nashville and the late Sam High. In addition to his mother he is survived by his wife, Marquietta Woodard High of Shelbyville; a son, Carey Michael High Jr. of Phenix City, Alabama; a daughter, Christina Marie Kemmis of Morristown; two sisters, Sandra League of Nashville, Sharon Dodson of Franklin; two brothers, Larry High of Franklin, Terry High of Fairview; and one grandchild. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday at Hillcrest Funeral Home in Shelbyville, Rev. Drew Hayes officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in Nashville. Visitation will be Thursday from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Hillcrest Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

MESSER, MR. O.B. age 86, of Lineville, Alabama passed away Tuesday, February 8, 1999 at Carraway Methodist Medical Center in Birmingham. He was a native of Clay County, a former resident of Douglasville, Ga, but had lived most of his life in Clay County; a farmer, a logger, and a member of Bethel Baptist Church (North).He is survived by 1 daughter, Sue Baldus of Morristown, Tennessee, 4 sons, Charles Messer of Greenville, South Carolina, Billy F. Messer Sr., of Villa Rica, Georgia, Tommy E. Messer and Donald R. Messer of Lineville; 2 sisters, Ada Mae Johnson of Clanton, Annie Rae Miller of Lineville; 4 brothers, Clarence Messer of Lineville, D.C. Messer of Anniston, A.G. Messer of Moody, Herman Messer of Asheville, North Carolina; 12 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be Thursday , February 11, 1999 at 11:00 a.m. at Bethel Baptist Church (North) with Rev. Kenneth Forsyth and Rev. Jim Messer officiating. Burial will follow in the Lineville City Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Benefield Funeral Home in Lineville from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, February 10, 1999 and until service time on Thursday, February 11, 1999. Benefield Funeral Home of Lineville in charge of arrangements.

MISER, JAMES TALMADGE, 70, of Jefferson City, passed away at Baptist Hospital on February 10, 1999. He was retired from the Tennessee Department of Transportation and was of the Baptist faith. Preceded in death by wife, Daisy Bivins Miser; father, Robert Miser; brothers, Bruce and Lewis Miser, sisters, Reecie Nichols, Nellie Massie and Mary Hubbard, nephews, Bruce Miser Jr. and Ralph Miser. Survived by sister and brother-in-law, Lorene and Roy Craine, Sneedville; nephews, Jeffrey Hubbard, Jefferson City, Rusty Hubbard, Knoxville, Robert Nichols, Sneedville, Hugh Kyle Nichols, Indiana, Ray and Tommy Miser, Maryland; nieces, Peggy Collins, Sneedville, Gladys Cox, Virginia, Delores Martin, North Carolina, Betty Jo Speck,Indiana, Elsie Ringley, Maggie Ellen Collins, Betty Davis, Maryland, Sophie Hardin, Rogersville; and special friends, Fonda Foster Newman and family. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, February 11 with the funeral at 8 p.m. with Rev. Darrall Walker presiding. Burial will be at Westview Cemetery on Friday, February 12 at 1 p.m. Fielden Funeral Home in New Market is in charge of arrangements.

THOMPSON, HELEN K., wife of Roy E. Thompson, both of Talbott, Tennessee, died suddenly on February 8, 1999 at Jefferson Memorial Hospital in Jefferson City, Tennessee. Helen, whose maiden name was Kovach, was born in Franklin, New Jersey on September 15, 1913. Raised in the Hungarian Reformed Church, and later a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Franklin where she was a member of the choir. She and Roy were married in New Jersey in 1937. They raised a family and lived there until 1969. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Ogdensburg, New Jersey, where she held the station of Adah and served as soloist for special occasions. Upon moving to Talbott, Tennessee in 1972, Helen served with various volunteer organizations touching the lives of many, and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Jefferson City. Helen had a deep love of church and family and a strong desire to help and serve others. Helen is survived by her husband of 61 years, Roy E. Thompson of the home; daughters, Linda F. Schweinfurth of Waldorf, Maryland, Louise A. Beierle of Boulder, Colorado; a son, Robert J. Thompson of Litchfield, Maine; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; a brother, Joseph Kovach of Florida; and a sister, Sophie Gulmy of New Jersey. Memorial services will be held at 7:00 p.m. Friday evening, February 12, 1999, from the Farrar Funeral Home Chapel in Jefferson City, Tennessee, with Dr. Robert Reno officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 7:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of choice. BOATMAN, DEAN, age 60, of Dandridge, passed away suddenly 7:48 a.m. Sunday, February 7, 1999 at Jefferson Memorial Hospital. He was a member of Mitchelll Springs Baptist Church, and was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Eulah Mae Hurst Boatman and a brother, Kenneth Boatman. Survived by his wife of 42 years, Frances Lee Boatman of the home; son and daughter-in-law, Donnie and Pam Boatman; grandchildren, Sidney and wife Michelle Boatman, Dawn and husband Carl Branch, and Ashley Boatman, all of Dandridge; sisters, Eva Reed, Shirley Dotson, Ann Owens, all of Rutledge; brothers, Sonny Boatman of Alexandria, VA., and Mike Boatman of Rutledge; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services 8:00 p.m. Monday, February 8, 1999 from Farrar Funeral Chapel with Reverend William Bradley and Reverend Kyle Cate officiating. Family will gather 10:30 a.m. Tuesday for an 11:00 a.m. interment graveside service. Family will receive friends Monday evening from 6-8 p.m. prior to funeral services. COTTER, KERMIT I., age 96, of Dumplin Valley Rd., Jefferson City, passed away Sunday, Feb. 7, 1999 at Jefferson Memorial Hospital. Funeral arrangements will be announced by Fielden Funeral Home, New Market.

HARDIN, REV. RAYMOND, FRED, age 87, of Sevierville, died Saturday, February 5, 1999 at the Baptist Hospital of East Tennessee. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ocie Hardin. He was a member of Trinity Baptist Church and a Navy veteran of World War II. Survivors: son and daughter-in-law, Charles and Carla Hardin of Sevierville; grandchildren, Tammy Monger of Morristown, Rodney Hardin of Sevierville, Angie Godfrey of Seymour; great-grandchildren, Frank Monger, Brent Hardin; brother, Ray Hardin of Sevierville. Funeral service 2 p.m. Tuesday in the East Chapel of Atchley Funeral Home. Rev. Homer Lewis officiating. Interment to follow in Boyd’s Creek Cemetery. The family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. Monday at Atchley Funeral Home , Sevierville. Atchley Funeral Home in charge.

HENDRICKS, BEULAH, age 96, of Jefferson City, passed away at 9:48 p.m. Sunday evening, February 7, 1999, at Jefferson Memorial Hospital following an extended illness. JOHNSON, RUSH HOLT, age 63, of Sneedville, Hancock County, TN., passed away Sunday, February 7, 1999, at his residence, He was a retired County Director of the Farmers Service Agency (FSA), formerly the A.S.C.S. after 42 years of service and was presently serving as the County Commissioner of Hancock County. He was a member and deacon of Cool Branch Missionary Baptist Church. Mr. Johnson was preceded in death by his father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. Woodrow (Grace Yount) Johnson. Survivors include his wife, Marjorie Johnson; daughters and son-in-law, Tracy and Sam Gilbert of Morristown. Cindy Johnson Smyth and son, Ted Johnson of Sneedville; grandchildren, Clinton, Samantha and Katy Beth Gilbert, and Wilson (Drew) Smyth; sister, Marka Sue Castleman of Newport News, VA.; brother, Woodrow Johnson of Sneedville; several nieces and nephews.; special friends, Scott and Taylor Collins. Special thanks to Philips Dossett, Trish Southern, Marlin Trent, Darlene Dillion and Dr. John Short. Funeral services will be Monday, February 8, 1999, 8:00 p.m. at Westside Chapel with Rev. Tommy Seals and Pastor Ted Trent officiating. Graveside services will be Tuesday, 3:00 p.m. in the Hamblen Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Monday from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. before the services. Westside Chapel Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

JONES, DESSIE RAE (HAMMER), age 83, of Rutledge, passed away February 6, 1999 at 10:00 p.m. at the home. She was a member of Head of Richland Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, Horace and Gertie Hammer; husband, Richard Jones and son Jimmy. Survivors include, son and daughter-in-law, Rev. Horace and Mary Jones of Rutledge; daughters and sons-in-law, Velva and Glenn Turner of White Pine, Stella and Buddy Romine of Rutledge; 9 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren. The Family will receive friends Monday night, February 8 from 6-9 p.m. at the Head of Richland Baptist Church, located 3 miles North of Rutledge, off Hwy. 11 W on right. Services will be Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. at the church with Rev. Tom Owen and Rev. Charles Smith officiating. Interment in the Blue Springs Cemetery following the service. Arrangements made by Smith Funeral Home in Rutledge.

KALP, LOIS S., age 90, of Blue Springs Rd., Strawberry Plains, passed away Sunday, Feb. 7, 1999 at her home. The body will be taken to Lewisburg, Pennsylvania for funeral service and interment. Arrangements by Fielden Funeral Home, New Market.
