JENSON, HILDA JOHANNA, age 88, of Knoxville, died Thursday, February 11, 1999 at St. Mary’s Hospital. She was a member of St. Luke’s United Methodist Church of Knoxville and the widow of Edward A. Jensen. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Jay Solod of Knoxville; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Luke’s UMC, 3839 Buffat Mill Rd., Knoxville, TN. Arrangements by Rose Mortuary Broadway Chapel.

ROBERTS, FRED ESTEL, age 61, passed away Thursday morning, Feb. 11, 1999 at his home in Beaumont, Calif. He was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew and Anna Roberts; brothers, Clyde and Wayne Roberts; sister and brother-in-law, Mildred and M.A. Terry; brother-in-law, Hollie Norton. Survivors include wife, Mary Roberts of Calif.; sisters, Maye Winstead and brother-in-law, Kyle; Marjorie Miller, Maxine Norton, all of Morristown; brother-in-law, Frank Miller of Knoxville; brother, Woodrow Roberts and sister-in-law, Mary Nell of Ohio; sons, Freddy Lynn and Dewayne Roberts; daughters, Kathy, Sharon, Lisa; and 4 step-children; sisters-in-law, Hazel Roberts of MO., and Dot Roberts of Bybee; several nieces, nephews; cousins and a host of friends. A graveside service will be held in Beaumont. Weavers Funeral Home in California in charge of arrangements. Stubblefield Funeral Home in charge of local arrangements.

SMITH, OLIN, age 68, of Sneedville, passed away Wednesday, February 10, 1999, at the Lakeway Regional Hospital in Morristown. He was the son of the late Wilson Smith. Hewas of the Baptist faith. Survivors: mother, Martha Mae Smith of Rutledge, TN.; brother and sister-in-law, Sterling R. and Betty Smith of Noblesville, Indiana; niece, Vickie Bennett of Sheridan, Indiana; nephew, David Smith of Arcadia, Indiana; uncles, Albert and Mack Burchett of Morristown; several cousins. Funeral services 2 p.m. Saturday, February 13, 1999 at the McNeil Funeral Home in Sneedville. Rev. Bob Davis officiating. Interment in the Burchett Cemetery. VEENABLE, MRS. MARTHA, age 75, of Tazewell, wife of Mr. Claude Venable, passed away at Claiborne County Hospital emergency room Friday. Coffey Funeral Home, Tazewell, in charge of arrangements.

BISHOP, ELIZABETH “HELEN,” (CAMPER), 97, born 14th of October, 1901, of Bean Station, went to be with the Lord the 9th of February, 1999. She passed away at 12:50 a.m. at Morristown-Hamblen Hospital. She was a good Christian woman with a special love for children, greeted you with a smile and the question “are you going to church Sunday?” She was a member of First Baptist Church of Bean Station and enjoyed her church as well as other churches in the area. She will be missed greatly by family and many dear friends. She started the reclaimation and upkeep of Dalton Cemetery, a project very dear to her heart and worked at this up until a couple of years ago. She was preceded in death by her parents George E. and Marinda (Kirkham) Camper; brothers, Paul and James Camper; sisters, Essie Bishop and Thelma Camper; husband, Joseph Larkin “Joe” Bishop; sons, Howard Camper, Charlie and Frank Bishop; daughter, Annie Bishop-Atkins. She is survived by one sister, Mary Wright; son and daughter-in-law, Joe and Maggie Bishop; grandchildren, Wayne and Linda Bishop of Bean Station, son of Annie; Charles, Barney, James, Ralph and Jeanie Bishop, children of Charlie; Bob, Jim, David, Ricky, Frankie and Tish, children of Frank; Bill, Robert, Shirley, Kathy, Mike, Mark, Jane and June, children of Joe Jr.; a number of great as well as great-great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and special friend, Edith Johnson. Funeral services 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at Stubblefield Funeral Home with Revs. Raymond Long, Bud Johnson and Gary Satterfield officiating. Family and friends will meet for burial 10:00 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 11, 1999 at Dalton Cemetery in Bean Station. The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Stubblefield Funeral Home in Morristown. Stubblefield Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

MERRITT, TED, age 84, of Morristown, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 9, 1999. He was a veteran of World War II. Survivors: his wife, Mildred; daughters, Sally Hilliard, Athens, GA., Cathy Demonbreun, Schaumbert, IL.; son, Paul Merritt; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters. Graveside services 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Creech’s Chapel Cemetery. The family will receive friends 6-7 p.m. Wednesday at Stubblefield Funeral Home in Morristown. Stubblefield Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

MISER, JAMES TALMAGE, 70, of Jefferson City, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 10, 1999 at East Tenn. Baptist Hospital. Funeral arrangements will be announced by Fielden Funeral Home, New Market.

PIERCE, RUBY L., born February 1, 1924, of Morristown, died at her home Monday morning after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Ruby was a caring, loving person who, until her own illness began to take its toll, was there to care for and support her loved ones in any way possible. An avid, accomplished quilter and excellent self-taught seamstress, she was happiest when sharing the fruits of her labor with those she loved. Marrying young and living through difficult times, she managed to somehow meet everyone’s needs and provided her family with a stable, safe, and loving environment. To those who knew her, it often seemed there was nothing she couldn’t do. She was preceded in death by her mother; father; three brothers; four sisters and two grandchildren. She is survived by Bob, her devoted husband of sixty years; and her loving children, Bob (Betty) of Charlotte, N.C., Clara Roach of Morristown, Jody Frambach, also of Charlotte, Jessie Aldridge of Countryside, IL. and Vickie (Michael) Fulton of Litchfield, OH; dear grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Nathan (Diane) Frambach and Garrett, Leigh (Pat) Stevens and Shannon, Steve (Maryann) Frambach, Greg (Jennifer) Roach, Lindsey and Will, and Rachel and Joshua Fulton. She is also survived by three sisters. Funeral service Wednesday, 2:00 p.m. at Westside Chapel. The family will receive friends from 7-9 Tuesday evening at Westside Chapel. Interment: Sunderland Cemetery, Talbott. Westside Chapel Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

BRADY, REV. MILES A., age 85, of Morristown, passed away Tuesday, February 2, 1999 at Morristown-Hamblen Hospital. He was a member of Centerview Missionary Baptist Church. Rev. Brady had a radio ministry over forty years and preached throughout many counties in East Tennessee. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ely and Virginia Long Brady. Survivors include his wife, Estelle Harbin Brady; daughter and son-in-law, Dolores and James Larrance of New Market; sisters and brother-in-law, Vada Britt, Della and Wallace Baxter of Morristown; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be Thursday, 8:00 p.m. at Westside Chapel with Rev. Glenn Ball and Rev. Charles Smith officiating. Graveside services will be Friday, 11:00 a.m. in the Hamblen Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Thursday from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. before the services. Westside Chapel Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

GARRETT, JAMES, of Tom Breeden Road, Jefferson City, passed away 4:00 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 3, 1999 at Jefferson Memorial Hospital after a brief illness. MAHANEY, MR. LESTER B., age 78, of Gainesboro, TN., born March 15, 1920 in Jackson County, TN., was dead on arrival, Wednesday afternoon, February 3, 1999, at the Cookeville Regional Medical Center in Cookeville, TN. He was the son of the late Jim and Martha Brown Mahaney. In addition to his parents, Mr. Mahaney was preceded in death by three brothers, Buddy Mahaney, John Mahaney, and Edd Mahaney. On June 28, 1941, Mr. Mahaney was married to the former Grace Meadows, who survives. Mr. Mahaney was a member of the Forks of Creek Church of Christ and a resident of the Forks of Creek Community of Jackson County, TN. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was retired maintenance employee of the Wilson County School System. Surviving relatives: wife, Grace Meadows Mahaney of Gainesboro, TN.; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Wayne and Linda Mahaney and James (Butch) Mahaney, all of Gainesboro, TN.; one daughter, Wanda Wilkerson of Cookeville, TN.; three brothers, Ernest Mahaney and Jack Mahaney, both of Gainesboro, TN., and Homer Mahaney of Morristown, TN.; two sisters, Mildred Allen and Willie Mae Mabry, both of Gainesboro, TN.; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild; several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services Saturday, February 6, 1999, at 11 a.m. at Chapel of Anderson Funeral Home. Brother Jimmy Anderson and Brother Hollis Chaffin officiating. Burial in John L. Clark Memorial Cemetery in the Stone Community of Jackson County, TN. Anderson Funeral Home of Gainesboro, TN., in charge of services.

MURPHY, HOWARD LEE, born February 20, 1948, passed away February 1, 1999. He was a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 6, 1999 at 2:00 p.m. at New Hope Recovery Center, 233 W. Main St., Morristown. In lieu of flowers, contributions will be accepted to assist with the burial arrangements.
