HARRIS, MR. FRANCIS CARLTON, age 61, of Morristown,, passed away Sunday, January 31, 1999. Stubblefield Funeral Home in Morristown in charge of funeral arrangements.

MASSENGILL, JOHNNY RAY, age 52, of 2248 Bacon Rd., Morristown, passed away Saturday morning at Lakeway Regional Hospital. Funeral services are Monday, 8:00 p.m. at Westside Chapel with Rev. Dale Gray and Rev. Roger Short officiating. Graveside services will be Tuesday 10:00 a.m. at Sunderland Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday 6:00 p.m. until time of services at 8:00 p.m. at Westside Chapel. Friends may also call at the home of his brother, James Massengill, at 2322 Montery Rd., in Talbott. Westside Chapel Funeral Home , Morristown, in charge of arrangements.

SHELTON, SARAH M., age 74, of White Pine, died Saturday evening, January 30, 1999 at Baptist Hospital of East TN. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Andrew Shelton; sons, Albert, Johnny and Bobby Shelton; daughter, Vinetta Shelton; brothers, Hershell and Edward Turner. She is survived by her sons, Andrew Shelton of Morristown, John and Robert Shelton of Morristown, John and Robert Shelton of White Pine; daughters. C.L. Robbers of Del Rio, Nina Grisham of Morristown, Elgiva Moss of Bean Station, Ethel Mae Cagle of Del Rio, Debra Burchfeild of Del Rio; brother, Hayward Turner of Jonesville, S.C.,; sister, Millie Gregg of Jonesville, S.C., Annie Mae Turner of Del Rio; Edith Holliway of Hammond, Indiana; several grandchildren; great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. The funeral will be 1:00 p.m. Wednesday at Manes Funeral Chapel with Rev. Doug King officiating., with burial in Lee Cemetery. The family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at Manes Funeral Home. WATKINS, MRS. CORA RINES, age 87, of Robert Watkins Road, Talbott, passed away Friday, January 29, 1999 at Jefferson Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday afternoon, February 1, 1999, at the Farrar Funeral Home Chapel in Jefferson City. The family received friends from 5- 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity or church of choice. WEST, EDGAR A. “EDDIE,” age 75, of Jefferson City, formerly of Rutledge, passed away at 5:30 a.m. Saturday morning, January 30, 1999 at the Veterans Administration Nursing Home in Mountain City, Tennessee following an extended illness. Mr. West was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Jefferson City; a veteran of World War II having served in the United States Army, and was the son of the late Ulysses and Gertrude Williams West. He was also preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters. Survivors include his wife of 20 years, Alice Louise West of the home; sons, Fred West of Jefferson City and Robert West of Jefferson City; daughters, Barbara Sellers of Rutledge, Brenda Jones of Rutledge, Doris Duck of Rutledge, Carolyn Kuykendall of Jefferson City, and Kathy McGinnis of Jefferson City; step-sons, Larry Nicley of New Market and Ricky Nicley of Jefferson City; step-daughters, Betty Everhart of Jefferson City, Barbara Hall of Morristown, and Bonnie Dalton of Jefferson City; 10 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; 11 step-grandchildren; 6 step-great-grandchildren; sister, Ethel Farrow of Rutledge; brothers, Roy West of Rutledge, and Amos West of Rutledge; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 8:00 p.m. Monday evening, February 1, 1999, in the Farrar Funeral Home Chapel in Jefferson City with Reverend Lester Byrd officiating. Family and friends will meet at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday morning, February 2, 1999, at Farrar Funeral Home and proceed to Jefferson Memorial Gardens for an 11:00 a.m. graveside and interment service. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Monday evening prior to services at the funeral home. Arrangements by Farrar Funeral Home , 411 W. WINSTEAD, FRANK, age 77, of Washburn, was born Sept. 26, 1921, passed away on Jan. 31, 1999 at Mountainview Veterans Hospital. He was a veteran of World War II. He earned a Good Conduct Medal, A.P. Service Ribbon, 4 Bronze Service Stars, A Philippine Liberation Ribbon, and one Bronze Star. He was saved in a fox hole in the Guadacanal of the Solomon Islands. He was preceded in death by two sons, Darrell and Danny and one grandchild, Tony Wayne Satterfield. survived by wife, Lucy Winstead of Washburn; son and daughters-in-law, Ronnie ”Cotton” and Marcella Winstead of Bean Station; daughter, Ruth Ann Satterfield of Bean Station; daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Gary Wallen of Morristown, Darlene and Wayne Coffman of Morristown; eight special grandchildren; one great-grandchild; a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services are 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 2, 1999 at Coffey Funeral Home Chapel. Interment in Janeway Cemetery with military services. Family will receive friends 6-9 p.m. Monday , Feb. 1, 1999 at Coffey Funeral Home, Tazewell. Coffey Funeral Home in charge.

DEBORD, KENNETH H., Highway 31 Mooresburg, died Monday, January 25, 1999 at his residence. At the time of his death Mr. DeBord was retired, and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Mooresburg. Mr. DeBord was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Hugh and Pearl Richardson DeBord; one infant sister and two infant brothers. Survivors include one son, Brant DeBord of Milwaukee, Wis.; three sisters, Mrs. George (Norma Lochiel) Livesay of Kingsport, Mrs. Gordon (Pauline) Hopson of Greeneville and Mrs. Ronald (Lillie) Dickenson of Kingsport; five brothers, Elmer DeBord, Clyde DeBord and Larry DeBord, all of Kingsport, Dwight DeBord of Church Hill and Hugh Kyle DeBord of Morristown; a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral arrangements for Mr. DeBord are incomplete and will be announced later by Broome Funeral Home, Rogersville, TN.

EVANS, PAUL K., 84, of Bean Station, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 26, 1999 at Morristown-Hamblen Hospital. Funeral services to be announced later by Stubblefield Funeral Home in Morristown.

FILEGER, RUTH (GRANNY), age 71, passed away Monday, January 25, 1999 at Lakeway Regional Hospital. She was preceded in death by her husband, Merle Fileger; parents, Russell LeRoy Bailey and Mary Lewis Bailey; brothers, Russell and George Bailey; son, Baby Boy Parks and two grandchildren. Survivors include her daughters, Joyce Whitacre and Linda Sue Parks of Morristown, Mary Lou Goodman and Laura Lee Childs of Jamestown, N.Y., and Nellie Mae Fellows of Shettfield, Pa.; son, Russell LeRoy Parks of Morristown; 16 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; sisters, Daisy Fileger of Warren, Pa., Estella Summerreski and Patricia Rexford of Fla.; brother, Dewert Bailey of Warren, Pa. Funeral services will be Friday, 2:00 p.m. at Westside Chapel with Rev. R.J. Seal officiating. Interment to follow in the Lebanon Baptist Church Cemetery. SEXTON, ROY H., age 81, of Bean Station, passed away Monday, Jan. 25, 1999 at Ft. Sanders Regional Medical Center in Knoxville, TN. Born Feb. 18, 1917, reborn in Christ Feb. 26, 1949; a member of Noeton Missionary Baptist Church in Bean Station. He was preceded in death by his parents, Roscoe and Nora Sexton; son, Doyle Sexton; granddaughter Dana Aldridge; brothers, Troy, Glenn, Harold, Arthur and Euel Sexton. Survivors: wife of 60 years, Christine Sexton; sons, Harold Sexton of Bean Station, TN., Bill Sexton of Pikeville, TN., Rev. Jerry Sexton of Morristown, TN.; daughters, Carolyn Jarnagin of Valdosta, Ga., Wanda Brady of Morristown, TN., Yvonne Cooper of Clinton, TN., Faye Harbin of Morristown, TN., Barbara Aldridge of Bean Station, TN., Shelia Jones of Richmond, Va.; daughters-in-law, Betty Sexton, Linda Sexton, Marsha Sexton; sons-in-law, Bobby Jarnagin, Rev. Jay Brady, Bob Cooper, Bill Harbin, David Aldridge, Carl Jones; 28 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and three on the way; brother, Herman Sexton of Ohio; sisters, Ruby Fleenor of Virginia, Dorothy Guy of Texas, Omega Fuson of Kentucky; and a host of nieces and nephews. SMITH, CLYDE F., age 69, of Morristown, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 26, 1999. Survivors include his wife, Delsie Smith; daughters, Debra Moore and her husband Roy “Cas,” Judy Manning, Sandra Smith; sons and their wives, Craig Smith and Beth, Don Smith and Leshea; eight grandchildren. Funeral services 8:00 p.m. Thursday at Stubblefield Funeral Home with Rev. Kenny Davis and Rev. Ernest Mullins officiating. SPURGEON, KENNETH WAYNE, age 62, of New Market, went to be with the Lord, January 25, 1999. He was a member of Piedmont Baptist Church in New Market. He was a former employee of Magnavox in Jefferson City and Titan Tire of Clinton. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dawson Spurgeon and Trula Agnes Spurgeon Knight. Survivors: wife of 39 years, Betty Jean Hopkins Spurgeon; sons and daughters-in-law, Timothy Wayne and Virginia Maxine of Jefferson City, Robert Dale and Kellie Denise of Morristown; grandchildren, Christopher, Brittney, KaLynn and Austin; brothers, Donald of Newport, Darrell and Tammie of Cosby; sister and brother-in-law, Faye and Harold Otto of Citra, Fla.; several nieces and nephews; special niece, Jessica Kanana Hopkins of Makakilo, Hawaii; brothers and sisters-in-law, Robert L. and Mary Hopkins of Bean Station, Fred and Linda Hurst of Morristown, Gene and Christine Atkins of Bean Station, Ed Hopkins of Cleveland, TN., Bonnie Hopkins of Morristown; special friends in Christ are Wayne Brown of Jefferson City and Johnny Walker of White Pine. Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Mayes Mortuary with Rev. Clyde Tilley and Rev. George Dotson officiating. Interment will be in Hamblen Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the mortuary. Mayes Mortuary in charge of arrangements.
