AUSTIN, Martha Driscoll,
Passed away peacefully at her home, Saturday morning, Feb. 16, 2008. Martha was a native of Knoxville who devoted her life to providing unconditional love to her family. She was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. B. Leo Driscoll; siblings, Leo Driscoll, Eleanor Driscoll and the Rev. James Driscoll; and granddaughter, Katherine Carroll. Martha is survived by her husband of 51 years, William C. Austin; seven children, Anne Austin Carroll of Chattanooga, Elizabeth (Ritchie) Case of Knoxville, William C. (Christine) Austin Jr. of Trumbull, Conn., Neil Austin of Daytona Beach, Fla., Jane (Al) Barron of Knoxville, Jacqueline Austin Russell of Kingston Springs and Kristen Austin of Greenville, S.C.; seven grandchildren, Kristen (Wes) Loden of Jakarta, Indonesia, Graham and Michael Case of Knoxville, Ashley and Leanne Austin of Trumbull, Jennafer and Melody Russell of Kingston Springs; three great-grandchildren, J.T., Lyndsey and Kaleigh Loden of Jakarta, Indonesia.; siblings, Brother Roland Driscoll of South Bend, Ind., Mary Reese and Julia (Robert) Schriver, all of Knoxville; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral Mass was Wednesday at All Saints Catholic Church with the Rev. Gerard Austin and the Rev. Ragan Schriver officiating. Interment followed at Highland Memorial Cemetery. The family received friends from Tuesday with a Christian Prayer Service at Rose Mortuary Mann Heritage Chapel.

THOMPSON, John B.,
age 61, of Knoxville, passed away suddenly Thursday afternoon, Feb. 14, 2008, as a result of an automobile accident. John was born April 1, 1946, in Escabana “In the UP”, Mich. He was a graduate of Western Michigan University and served as a pilot in the U.S. Navy. John was preceded in death by his father, Walter J. Thompson. He is survived by mother, Blanche B. Thompson; and mother-in-law, Dora Jo Byrnside, both of Maryville; wife, Ellajo Byrnside Thompson of Knoxville; sister, Yvonne and husband Brian Clark, of Sitka, Ark.; son, John Jr. and wife Nancy of Farmington Hills, Mich.; daughter, Jennifer and husband Ron Abner, of Howell, Mich.; stepdaughter, Joelle and husband Harvey Mitchell, of Bowling Green, Ky,; stepson, Byron and wife Shannon Walker of Keller, Texas; stepdaughter, Juliane and husband Jeremy Burdette of Helena, Ala. “Papa John” was especially dedicated to his seven grandchildren, Olivia, Caitlin, Marina, Emma, Quinn, Merrick and Amelia. He was the founder and the former owner of Future Pak Ltd., a pharmaceutical packaging company of Farmington Hills and president of Southern Yankee Restoration. During his career John received several patents for packaging innovations. In retirement John became an avid boater and fisherman who loved spending quality time on the water with family and friends. He was particularly proud of his ongoing research in the fields of horticulture and poultry. John will be remembered by those who loved him for his wit, sarcasm and unwavering resolve to help anyone in need. JONES Jr., George W,
64, retired ground safety manager, 164th Airlift Wing, Tennessee Air National Guard, Memphis, member of First United Methodist Church, served as Finance Committee chairman of the Covington Historical Commission and member of Covington Country Club, died Feb. 18, 2008, at St. Francis Hospital — Bartlett. Visitation was held Tuesday; and funeral service was Wednesday, Feb. 20, at Maley-Harbrough Chapel. Burial was Monday, Feb. 25, in West Tennessee Veterans Cemetery, Memphis. He leaves his wife, Sue Kathryn Whipple Jones of Covington; two daughters, Jennifer Jones Winkler of Union City and Julie Jones Ford of Knoxville; a son, Jeffrey Winston Jones of Covington; a sister, Sue Jones Kidd of Kissimmee, Fla.; a brother, Charles Jones of Nashville; grandchildren, Laura Ashley Cochran, Matthew Ford, Anna Kathryn Ford, Elizabeth Ford, Kate Ford and Parker Winston Jones. WILLIAMS, Garnette Stooksbury,
age 93, of West Knoxville died Friday morning, April 25, 2008 at Baptist West Hospital. Born April 17, 1915, in Union County, Garnette’s family relocated to West Knox County in 1935 due to the construction of Norris Dam and the lake flooding her family’s farm in Loyston. In 1937 she married Walton L. Williams, a well-known Knox County school principal and teacher. They continued to live in West Knox County and raised their four children on the Williams family farm. She was a dedicated member of Virtue Cumberland Presbyterian Church where she participated in many activities, especially the covered dish meals, missionary society and quilting circle. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Her church, family and friends were the loves of her life. During her earlier years, she was an active member of the Boyd Community Club and being an avid gardener, was often a finalist in the Knox County Garden contests. Each year, she would grow and can hundreds of jars of fruits and vegetables for her family and friends. She will be remembered for her hard work, delicious country cooking, warm smile, and concern for others. She was preceded in death by her parents, Caswell and Nancy Jane Stooksbury; her husband, Walton L William; brothers, Porter and Hubert Stooksbury; sisters, Marie Irwin, Blanche Keller, Dora Huffman and Edith Longmire. She is survived by sons, Lafayette Williams and his wife, Janice and Wendell Williams, all of Knoxville; daughters, Sarah Stewart and husband, Jack of Lansing, Kansas, Gail Welch and husband, Ron of Knoxville; grandchildren, Byron Williams, Rachel Williams Samulski and husband Chris, Bradley Welch and wife Kara, Laura Welch Kostka and husband, Kevin, Diana Stewart and Jonathan Stewart; great-granddaughters, Iris and June Samulski and Ava Kostka; brother, Schuler Stooksbury. Many nephews and nieces also survive her. The family received friends Sunday afternoon, April 27, with a Celebration of Life to following with the Rev. Bill Middleton. Family and friends gathered Monday morning at Concord Masonic Cemetery for graveside services. Memorials may be sent for DCI Group Home in Jefferson City, c/o First National Bank, P.O. Box 306, Lenoir City, TN 37771. Garnette’s son, Wendell Williams, who has Down Syndrome resides at the group home.

VANCE Jr., Fred William,
age 92, of West Knoxville, died Tuesday, April 22, 2008. He was a longtime member, deacon and elder of First Presbyterian Church. He was a graduate of Knoxville High School, a 1938 graduate of The University of Tennessee, a devoted member of the Kiwanis Club, and retiree of the downtown office of Employment Security. Fred was a U.S. Army veteran serving during World War II and had been awarded two Bronze Stars. He was preceded in death by wives, Claire Covington Vance and Kathleen Gilbert Bost Vance; sister, Dorothy Vance Greene House; and niece, Patsy Coble. He is survived by his niece, Carolyn Rogers; nephew, Clayton Greene and wife, Connie, all of Knoxville; nephew, Marshall Coble of Charlotte, N.C.; stepson, Charlie Bost and wife, Kathy of Germantown; step-grandson, Andy Bost of Houston, Texas; devoted friends, Jeannie and Chuck Owen; and several great nieces and nephews. Family and friends met Thursday at Highland Memorial Cemetery for an interment service. A memorial service followed at Rose Mortuary Mann Heritage Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church, 620 State St., Knoxville, TN 37902. The family received friends following the memorial service at Rose Mortuary Mann Heritage Chapel.

PIERCE, Lana M.,
age 58, of Farragut, passed away Tuesday evening, April 22, 2008. Lana was a very devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Her love of life, family and friends were most important in her life. Lana was a dedicated employee of TIS Insurance Services, Inc. for 24 years. Her mother, Clara J. Hayes, preceded her in death. Lana is survived by her husband of 41 years, Ron Pierce; daughter and son-in-law, Christy and David Ball; son and daughter-in-law, Jason and Mandi Pierce all of Knoxville; grandchildren, Lakin Ryan Pierce and McKalie Lynn Ball; sisters, Karin Costello of Palm Coast, Fla., and Angela Nielsen of Gainesville, Va.; brothers, Michael Hayes of Babylon, N.Y., and Daniel Hayes of Atlanta, Ga.; several nieces, nephews and great-nieces and -nephews. The family received friends Saturday followed by a Celebration of Life with the Rev. Phillip Martin officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to American Cancer Society, 871 N. Weisgarber Road, Knoxville, TN 37909.

GRIMALDI, Antoinette Dawn,
age 44, of Knoxville, formerly of Millville, N.J., passed away suddenly Saturday morning, April 19, 2008, at her home. Antoinette was a LPN. Her mother, Constance Rizzo, preceded her in death. Antoinette is survived by husband of 22 years, Robert Grimaldi Sr.; children, Candice Coley, Jason Grimaldi, Robert Grimaldi Jr. and Ulderico “Ricky” Grimaldi; grandchildren, Vincent and Claudia; father, Ulderico Rizzo of Millville; brother, Alfred Rizzo of Indiana; sisters, Cheri Rizzo and Constance Turpin of both of Vineland, N.J.; several nieces and nephews.

LEVINE, Marie Kurtz,
age 87, of Knoxville passed away Monday morning, April 21, 2008. Marie was born Nov. 6, 1920, and was retired from Ft. Sanders Medical Center. She was preceded in death by her parents, James M. Cole and Mamie Price Cole; brothers, Jim Cole and Richard Cole; and sister, Thelma Killion. Marie is survived by her sons, Ernest R. Watkins of California and Lloyd M. Watkins of Hendersonville; daughter and son-in-law, Linda Joy and Darrell Loy of Knoxville; grandchildren, Lisa Loy, Beth and Bart Watkins, all of Knoxville; great-grandson, Stephen Watkins; sisters, Connie Turner and Bea Joseph of Monroe, Mich.; The family received friends Wednesday. The family of Marie Levine would like to thank the staff of Atria Weston Place for the wonderful care they gave our mother.
