Young, Dorothy Cole Lee, age 66, of Harriman, formerly of the Hardin Valley Community Knoxville, passed away Wednesday evening January 12, 2000 at the Roane Medical Center. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Young. Sons, Ray Wayne Lee and Jack Charles Young. Cook, Rev. William Kenneth (Bill) (Lt. Col. U.S. Army. Retired), age 78, of the Tellico Village Community Loudon, formerly of Hendersonville, passed away Saturday afternoon January 15, 2000 at his home. Bill was a 24 year veteran of the Army and a Pearl Harbor survivor. He was a retired Baptist minister with the Castallian Springs Baptist Church, New Hope Baptist Church and the First Baptist Church of Westmoreland. Bill also retired from the State of Tennessee with the Employment Security Department. Bill was a member of the Beech Masonic Lodge No. 250 F&AM and the Nashville American Legion Post 5. Bill was an avid golfer. He was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Sara Anna Cook. Parents, J. Maxwell Cook and Sara Helton Cook, Seven brothers and sisters. Survived by wife of 54 years, Dimple McDonald Cook, Daughter and son-in-law, Trudy and Ron McCandless of Tellico Village. Grandchildren, Holly Forman and husband Charles of Dacula Ga., Butch McWilliams and wife Brenda of Mt. Juliet. Great grandsons, Teddy, William and Jacob Forman. Brother, James T. Cook . Anderson, Ray Harold, age 73, of Lenoir City, passed away Sunday, January 16, 2000 at the Loudon Hospital. Ray attended the Grace Fellowship Assembly Of God. Retired from the General Mills Corporation. A WWII veteran serving in the U. S. Marines. He also served in the United States Army. A member of the Avery Masonic Lodge 593 F&AM. A member of the Shriners and Scottish Rite. Preceded in death by his parents, Ora V. and Sallie Collins Anderson. Brothers, O.V. and James Anderson. Survived by his wife of 54 years, Marion Parris Anderson. Daughters and son-in-law, Nikki and Terry Angus of Harriman and Joy Anderson of Lenoir City. Norwood, Avery Lenoir (Bud), age 88, of 193 Norwood Drive Lenoir City passed away Sunday morning January 16, 2000 at his home. Bud was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church. He was retired from Charles H. Bacon as the warehouse manager. Bud was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Jones Norwood. Survivors: Daughter and son-in-law, Beverly and Robert Gamble of Chattanooga. Sons and daughters-in-law, Joe and LaGonda Norwood, Avery and Gerry Norwood all of Lenoir City. Davis, Bobby Gene, age 67, of the Tellico Village Community Loudon Tennessee, formerly of Plymouth Michigan, passed away early Monday morning January 17, 2000 at his home. Bobby was preceded in death by his wife, Sandra Davis in April of 1993. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict serving with the Army Armored Division. Survivors: Mother, Lois Coleman Davis. Ellis, Sharon, age 52, of Lenoir City passed away early Wednesday morning, January 19, 2000 at Loudon Hospital. She was a member of Sixth Avenue Church of God. Preceded in death by her parents, R. W. and Nora Ellis; sister, Margaret Ann Ellis. Survivors: brothers, Daniel Ellis and Leroy Ellis of Lenoir City, Claude Ellis of Huntsville, Alabama; sisters, Thelma Hill, Wanda Ross, Ailene Preston and Ernestine Blanton all of Lenoir City, Irmagene Wakefield of Marietta, Ga.; several nieces and nephews. Blanton, Adam Wayland Jr., infant son of Adam and Letitia Blanton of Lexington North Carolina, formerly of Lenoir City Tennessee, went to be with Jesus early Sunday morning January 9, 2000 at the Blanton home in Lexington. A. J. was born June 1, 1998. Surviving besides his parents are sister, Tori Blanton of the home. Grandparents, Robert and Ernestine Ellis Blanton of Lenoir City. Smithey, Mary Ruth McCullough, age 73, of Etowah, formerly of Lenoir City, passed away Thursday morning January 20, 2000 at Woods Memorial Hospital in Etowah. Mary was a member of the Englewood Church of God. She was preceded in death by Son, Allen Hayes Smithey. Parents, James Franklin McCullough and Gracie Lou Carpenter McCullough. Sisters, Viola Green and Faye Devine. Brothers, John, Dave and Archie Murphy McCullough. Survivors: Husband, Robert H. McClaskey, Jennie Pecarich Harrison, age 84, of the Tellico Village Loudon Tennessee, formerly of Gallup New Mexico and Ogden Utah, passed away Wednesday January 19, 2000 in Loudon. Jennie was of the Catholic faith. She was born May 17, 1915 in Gallup New Mexico to Frank and Barbara Ferkovic Pecarich. Jennie graduated from high school at the age of 16 and learned to speak 7 languages. She lived in France, Libya and Germany and traveled extensively. She was known for her sense of humor and love of people. After the death of her second husband, she moved to Utah and retired from the U.S. Government as a stenographer. Jennie moved to Tennessee 2 and a half years ago to be near her family. She was preceded in death by her Parents; Daughter, Betty Marie Harrison. Husbands, Matthew Jones Harrison and Edward McClaskey, Brothers, Fred Pecarich, Joseph Pecarich and Frank Pecarich. Sisters, Mary Stratton and Stephanie (Staffi) Kay. Tate, William Nile (Bill), age 83, of Lenoir City went to be with the Lord Friday afternoon January 21, 2000. Bill was of the Baptist faith. He was retired from T.V.A. and was a longtime farmer. Bill was a member of Union Lodge #38 F&AM and a veteran of the Army serving with the 83rd Infantry in World War II. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie and Sammie Overton Tate. Sister, Lucy Luttrell. Survivors: wife of 58 years, Lena Comer Tate. Sons, Bill and James Tate. Adopted son, Jason Nile Tate Godsey. Daughter, Diane Tate all of Lenoir City. Whitehead, Floyd Arthur, age 79, of Lenoir City, formerly of Blount County, passed away early Saturday morning January 22, 2000. Floyd was born May 1, 1920 in Cades Cove to John and Lillie Cooper Whitehead. He was a member of Kingston Pike Baptist Church. A member of I. B. E. W. #270 in Oak Ridge for over 40 years. A veteran of World war II serving with the Army. He was wounded in Northern Africa and received the Purple Heart. Floyd was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, J. T. Whitehead and Bobby Whitehead. Sisters, Dorothy Wilson and Myrtle Whitehead. Survivors: wife of 22 years, Martha Henderson Whitehead. Daughter, Linda Mote of Wisconsin. Hernandez, Dolores Sanchez, age 60, of Farragut Tennessee, formerly of Hobbs New Mexico, passed away Sunday morning January 23, 2000 at the St. Mary’s Hospice Center in Knoxville. Dolores was born January 29, 1939 in Carlsbad New Mexico to Bonificio and Marcelena Navarette Sanchez. After raising five children she earned a degree in Elementary Education from Eastern New Mexico University and taught school in the Hobbs New Mexico Municipal Schools until her retirement in June of 1998. She was a member of the Jefferson Street Church of Christ in Hobbs New Mexico. After her retirement Dolores moved to Farragut, where she was a member of Farragut Church of Christ. Dolores was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Juan and Daniel Sanchez. Survivors: Children and spouses, Marty and Janet Hernandez of Kaukauna Wisconsin, Elia and Tom Key of Farragut Tn., Elisha and Harry Stewart of Mendon Mass.,Cristina and Ken Keller, Cindy and Dan Heim all of Lewisville Texas. 16 Grandchildren. He was retired from Union Carbide Y-12 plant as a supervisor. George was an avid fisherman and artist. A veteran of World War II serving with the Army. Survivors: Wife, Clyde Baker (Honey) Ferrell. She worked as a seamstress at the Wilson Sporting Goods in Cookeville for many years. Shirley was preceded in death by parents, Bill Johnson and Catherine Halfacre Johnson. Preceded in death by her parents, Floyd and Maggie Mayton Andrew; sisters, Gladys Byington and Thelma Walker; brother, Albert Andrew. Shopene, George Michael, age 71, of Knoxville passed away Suddenly Tuesday January 25, 2000. George was a veteran of the Korean Conflict serving with the Army. He was a photographer and an avid outdoorsman. He was reared by his aunts, Regina Yaley and Leona Shoemaker, who proceeded him in death. George is survived by his son, Michael Shopene, of Knoxville. Helen was a member of Cedar Springs Prebyterian Church in Knoxville, the RSS Group and Saints Alive. She was a former member of the Welcome Wagon and Newcomers Club in Knoxville. Helen and her husband were owners of Kerns’ Dry Cleaners in Hamburg for many years. A former member of the Goshen Presbyterian Church and formerly attended St. James UCC in Hamburg. Helen was preceded in death by her Husband, Irving F. Kern. Son-in-law, Richard W. Prosser. Parents, George and Nellie Bozard Monckton. Sister, Belle Monckton Bresine. A veteran of World War II serving in the Navy. An active member of the American Legion. He was preceded in death by his parents, David Lacey and Allie Mitchell Keebler. Goodwin, Mary Lynn of Lenoir City Tennessee passed away Sunday afternoon January 30, 2000 in Columbia City Indiana. Mary Lynn was the mother of Betsy Gates of Columbia City and the wife of the late M.G. Goodwin of Lenoir City. She was born May 30, 1910 in Lenoir City to Henry Calhoun Foster and Mattie Dyer Foster. She was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church in Lenoir City and a member of the Sadie Porter Sunday School Class. Mary Lynn was a member of the D. A. R., the Clionian Club and the Tuesday Club. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Betsy Jayne Gates. Brothers, Thomas D. Foster and H. C. Foster. Sister, Martha Foster Hunter. Survivors: Daughter and son-in-law, Betsy and Ben Gates of Columbia City Indiana. Grandson and wife, Dr. Ben and Janet Gates of Ft. Wayne Indiana. Granddaughters and husbands, Marti and Kent Lundy of Ft. Wayne Indiana, Mary Lynn and Gary Pottorff of Munster Indiana. Great Grandchildren, Betsy Lynn and Gregory Pottorff, Nathan and Joshua Lundy, Alex and Benjamin Williams. Several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 6-7:45 P.M. Thursday at the Trinity United Methodist Church in Lenoir City with funeral services to follow at 8 P.M. Rev. Mike Gregory and Dr. Ben Gates officiating. Family and friends will gather at 9 A.M. Munsey, Rada Rasar, age 92, of Lenoir City passed away Sunday evening January 30, 2000 at the Baptist Health Care Center. Rada was a member of South Holston Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by Husband, Frank Munsey. Parents, Daniel Rasar and Martha Bivens Rasar. sisters, Anna Mae Munsey, Gertrude Norton, Dora Kirkland, Cora Johnson. Brother, Joe Rasar. She is survived by her twin sister, Roxie Rogers of Lenoir City. Step son, Tommy Munsey of Kingston. Several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 6-7 P.M. Evans, Hernando Cortez (H.C.), age 83, of Farragut (formerly a resident of Lenoir City, Tn.,Passed away at his home on January 31, 2000, after a long illness. He was born and lived in Lenoir City most of his life. He along with his father owned Evans Bros. Grocery on Broadway. He later worked as a dispatcher for Colonial Freight Systems, Inc. in Knoxville. He is a World War II veteran and was awarded a Purple Heart after being wounded in Germany. He was an elder in the Lenoir City Church of Christ. He was preceded in death by his parents Charles Robert Evans, Sr., and Fannie Hambright Evans, brother Charles Robert Evans, Jr., son-in-law M.R. (Buddy) Clayton, and a great grandson, Seth Adam Gossage. He is survived by his loving wife of almost 60 years, Agnes Hardeman Evans, four daughters and their respective spouses- Rose Evelyn Clayton of Farragut (with whom they made their home), Sarah Elizabeth McNabb and husband Bill of New Carlisle, Ohio, Marjorie Ellen Gossage and husband Lee of Farragut, and Katherine Emily Wawrzyniak and Ron of Orlando, Florida. Grandchildren Reed and Angie Clayton of Smyrna, GA, Gaylon and Becky Clayton of Lenoir City, Dana and Ann Clayton of Conway, AR, Beryl and Tracie McNabb, Billy and Pam McNabb, Suzanne and Ralph Weaver, Beth McNabb, Theresa and Ronnie Fackler all of New Carlisle, OH, Allen and Tresia Gossage of Farragut. Scott and Tammy Harness of Kodak, TN, also survived by twenty-two great-grandchildren. He is survived by brothers Frank Evans and Lois of Durham, NC, James Evans and Gwendolyn, and sister-in-law, Mary Nell Evans all of Lenoir City, TN. Several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Lenoir City Church of Christ, new Highway 95 (Hwy 321) at Simpson Road. Service will follow at the church at 8:00 p.m. with Kent Bailey and Albert Griffen officiating. His grandsons will be pallbearers. The family will meet at Lakeview Cemetery on Friday morning for a private burial. In lieu of flowers, H.C. would have wished contributions be made to the Tennessee Children's Home, P.O. Scarbrough, Blanche Case, age 91, of 501 West Second Avenue Lenoir City passed away early Wednesday morning February 2, 2000 at her home. Blanche was a member of Central United Methodist Church. She owned and operated Scarbrough Grocery with her husband, J. H. Scarbrough, until their retirement in 1972. Blanche was preceded in death by her Husband; Parents, Clarence E. Case and Mary Willard Case; Sister, Pauline Case. She will be greatly missed by her loving family which includes: Sons and daughters-in-law, James O. and Mary Jo Scarbrough, William D. and Mignon Scarbrough. Daughters and sons-in-law, Betty and Dewey Easton, Charlotte and Joe Webster all of Lenoir City. Grandchildren and spouses, Denise and William A. Brookshire, Kathy and Wesley Willingham, Sloan and Richard Miles, Becky and Rick Atkins, Karee and J. Will Jones III, Julie Webster, James R. and Marcia Scarbrough, Michelle and Eric Vondy, William Kyle and Gina Scarbrough. Ten (10) great grandchildren and Two (2) great great grandchildren. Duff, Eva Duggan, age 86, of the Oral Community, Lenoir City, passed away Thursday evening February 1, 2001, at the Farragut Health Care Center. Eva was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and the Friendship Sunday School Class. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe L. Duff; son-in-law, Lavern Luttrell; parents, W. M. Duggan and Julia Soward Duggan; 12 brothers and sisters. Survivors include children, Barbara Luttrell; of Lenoir City, Fred (Bud) Duff and wife, Joyce, of Enterprise, Alabama; Jack Duff and wife, Margaret, of Lenoir City; Donna Brewster and husband, Dean, of Lenoir City; 8 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 5-7 P.M. Saturday followed by funeral services at 7 P.M. in the Click Funeral Home with Rev. Milton Hicks and Rev. Larry Bryant officiating. Family and friends will gather at 2 P.M. Sunday in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery for graveside services with Rev. Clifford Quincey officiating. Pall bearers will be grandsons, Rodney Helton, and Ray Cardwell. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Calvary Baptist Church, 303 West First Avenue, Lenoir City, TN 37771.
