Smalley, Edith M., age 92, of Lenoir City, formerly of Grand Junction, passed away suddenly Tuesday morning December 21, 1999 at her home. Edith was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and the Fellowship Sunday School Class. She was a lifetime member of the United Methodist Women and was a member of the Eastern Star. Edith was preceded in death by her husband, Walter E. Smalley Sr. Son, Auby Mitchell Smalley. Sisters, Ruth Best and Virginia Wilson. Survivors: Sons, Walter E. Smalley and wife, Betty of Lenoir City, Willie Joe Smalley, with whom she made her home. Malone, Nova Russell, age 83, of 303 Poplar Street Lenoir City passed away Tuesday morning December 21, 1999 at her home. Nova was a member of Nelson Street Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her Parents, Odie Clay Russell and Josie Breeden Russell. Son, Chester Lee Helton. Survivors: Husband of 53 years, Clarence Malone. Stuve, Sally Ann Bishop, age 66, of the Tellico Village Community Loudon Tennessee, formerly of Frankfort Indiana, passed away Wednesday morning December 22, 1999 at her home. Sally was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Lenoir City Tennessee. A former jewelry designer at Ellis Jewelers in Frankfort. A medical records librarian at Pontiac General Hospital in Pontiac Michigan and St. Vincents Hospital in Billings Montana. Sally was a graduate of Indiana University in Bloomington. She was preceded in death by her son, Matthew Paul Stuve and father, Milton Bishop. Survived by husband of 44 years, Alexander Stuve of the Tellico Village Community. Children, Eric M. Stuve and wife, Monika, of Seattle Washington, Thomas E. Stuve and fiancee’ Nancy Eaton, of Fort Collins Colorado, David A. Stuve and wife Juli, of Dayton Ohio, John C. Shaver, Hazel Malone, age 91, of the New Providence Community Loudon passed away Wednesday afternoon December 22, 1999 at Park West Hospital. Hazel was a member of New Providence Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Ray Shaver. Grandson, Randy Shaver. Survivors: Children and spouses, Johnny and Louise Shaver of Loudon, Billy and Betty Shaver, Joe and Sue Shaver, Joyce Norris all of Loudon. 14 grandchildren. 11 great grandchildren. 2 great great grandsons. Hines, Mildred, age 87, of Lenoir City passed away Thursday morning, December 23, 1999 at Baptist Health Care Center. She attended Lenoir City Primitive Baptist Church. Preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Laura Abbott Hines; sister, Cora Robinson; brothers, Charlie Hines, Claude (Snook) Hines and Carl Hines. Survived by sister, Maxine Hines Issacs; brother, Kenneth (Nig) Hines, both of Lenoir City; sisters-in-law, Effie Hines of Morristown and Helen Hines of Loudon; several nieces and nephews. Park, Obil Hill Sr., age 81, of 989 Friendship Road Lenoir City passed away Wednesday evening December 22, 1999 at Park West Hospital. Obil was a member of Friendship Baptist Church. He was retired from Oak Ridge National Laboratory and was a member of Carpenters Local # 50. Obil was a member of Avery Lodge #593 and Scottish Rites Bodies for over 50 Years and was a 33rd degree mason. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence N. Park and Bertha Wilkerson Park. Baird, Bernice C., age 81, of Lewiston, Maine formerly of Lenoir City passed away Wednesday afternoon December 22, 1999 in Lewiston, Maine. Bernice was born in Little Falls New Jersey on April 15, 1918, the daughter of Walter and Frances Van Gieson Yahn. She was married to Clifford Baird and resided with him in Lenoir City for 17 years, prior to moving back to Lewiston six years ago. Bernice was a member of Court Street Baptist Church in Lewiston. She had a love for flowers, gardening, cross stitching and making crafts and also enjoyed traveling, sightseeing and most of all spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She is survived by daughters, Frances Michaud of Salem N.H. and Nancy Wilson of Bailey Island ME. Son, Robert Wilson of Colorado Springs CO. Eight grandchildren. Ten great grandchildren. Waters, Dwight Lee, age 56, of Greenback Tennessee, formerly of Marquette Heights, Illinois and East Peoria Illinois, passed away early Wednesday morning December 29, 1999 at his home. Dwight was retired from Caterpillar Inc., in Peoria and was a member of the U A W. He was preceded in death by his parents, Marion and Grace Boyer Waters. Brother, Leon Waters. Thompson, Dr. Howard Arnold, age 69, of Monroe North Carolina, formerly of Lenoir City, passed away Wednesday December 29, 1999 in Monroe. Howard was retired from Wingate University in Wingate N.C. He had also taught at Georgetown College in Georgetown Ky. He was a graduate of Carson Newman, Eastern Kentucky University and George Peabody at Vanderbilt. In addition to being a college professor, he was a Baptist minister. He was preceded in death by his parents, Leland Lincoln Thompson Sr. and Mattie Bowden Thompson. Brother, Lee Thompson II. Alexander, Dr. Douglas Ray, age 49, of Lenoir City TN, passed away suddenly December 31, 1999. Doug was Senior Pastor of First Baptist Church of Lenoir City. He had previously pastored at Sharon Woods Baptist Church in Columbus Ohio for 9 years and was associate Pastor at First Baptist Church of Little Rock Arkansas for 6 years. He received his doctorate at Trinity Bible College and Seminary .Doug was a graduate of Hardin Simmons University and Southwest Theological Seminary. He was preceded in death by his mother, Dorothy Alexander. Survivors: Wife of 28 years, Karen Henry Alexander. Sons, Mark Thomas Alexander, Stephen Henry Alexander and John Douglas Alexander. Preceded in death by husband, Padgett Cannon; brother, Clarence Roberts; and sisters, Maude Roberts and Alice Roberts. Westmoreland, H. E., Jr., age 73, of Lenoir City passed away Wednesday, December 5, 2001 at the Park West Medical Center. He was an Elder of the Lenoir City Church of Christ for 30 years. He served in Okinawa during the Korean War. Mr. Westmoreland retired from Viskase in Loudon after 35 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, H. E. and Inez Westmoreland Sr. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Virginia Partin Westmoreland; daughters, Joy Westmoreland, Hope Fine and husband, Greg of Lenoir City, Faith Graves and husband, John of Soddy-Daisy; granddaughters, Jessica Fine, Casey and Corey Graves; also Lisa Moser Arp and Jarrod L. Ryan who were like grandchildren to him; brother, J. B. Westmoreland of Bridgeport, AL. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Lenoir City Church of Christ. Simpson, Roy L. - age 78, of Farragut, passed away Friday evening, December 7, 2001 at the Etowah Health Care Center. Roy was a member of Concord United Methodist Church. He was retired from ORNL working in the Instrumentation and Control Division for 35 years. Roy served in the United States Navy during WWII aboard the USS Threat in both the Atlantic and Pacific Theaters. He was a charter member of the Farragut Ruitan Club. Roy was preceded in death by his wife, Clara (Toppie) Simpson; parents, Floyd and Velma Hutsell Simpson; step-mother, Clemmie Simpson; brothers, Bill and Joseph Simpson. He is survived by his children: Dr. Joe Simpson and wife, Sandra of Lenoir City, Jim Simpson and wife, Sandi of Knoxville, Suzanne Robbins and husband, Mark of Farragut; grandchildren: Andrew and Natalie Simpson, Stephanie and Graham Simpson, Joseph, Jason and Justin Robbins; brothers, Nelson Simpson of Athens and Milton Simpson of Niota; sisters, Helen Capizzi of Chicago and Nell Anderson of Athens; several nieces and nephews. Crook, Jerry C., age 84, of Lenoir City, passed away Sunday, December 9, 2001 at the Ft. Sanders Loudon Hospital. He was a member of the Lenoir City Cumberland Presbyterian Church, a member of the Lions Club and was a Veteran of WW II serving in the Marines and was a survivor of Iwo Jima. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jerry and Corrie Frye Crook and a half-brother, Edward Crook; he is survived by his wife, Roberta Holbrook Crook of Lenoir City; son and daughter-in-law, Dr. and Mrs. Jerry Crook of Loudon; Grandson, Mr. and Mrs. Jay Crook of Nashville and granddaughter, Joy Elizabeth Crook of Norfolk, VA. Thurston, Dorothea Bushnell Perkins, age 95, of Farragut, TN, formerly of Bend, OR, passed away Friday afternoon December 7, 2001 at Park West Hospital in Knoxville, TN. Dorothea was a member of the Presbyterian Church in Bend, OR. She was an Art Teacher for many years in the Eugene Oregon Public Schools. Dorothea was much loved by all and will be greatly missed. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Drew W. Perkins, who was the father of her children and Ed Thurston; sister, Alice Forrester. Henn, Jan, age 44, of Lenoir City, formerly of Farragut and Rogersville, passed away Wednesday evening December 12, 2001 at Vanderbilt Medical Center in Nashville. Jan was a devoted Christian wife and mother and a member of Two Rivers Church in Farragut. She was a graduate of Rogersville High School. She attended Carson Newman College and East Tennessee State University. Jan graduated from the University of Tennessee Center for the Health Sciences, School of Pharmacy. After returning to Knoxville in 1992, she was a pharmacist for Ft. Sanders Regional Medical Center, Resource Pharmacy, and more recently at Shannondale Nursing Home. She did volunteer work at the V O A homeless shelter in Knoxville. She enjoyed flower gardening and acrylic and water color painting. Survivors: husband of 19 years, Mark Henn; children, Melissa and Daniel; parents, Bill and Jean Rymer of Rogersville; brothers and sisters-in-law, Bill and Terri Rymer and children, Adam and Ashley of Greeneville, John and Jeannie Rymer and children, Janna and Jennifer of Farragut; sister and brother-in-law, Betsy and Reed Thomas and children, Joshua, Rebekah and Joel of Knoxville. The family will receive friends from 5 to 6:45 p.m. Saturday at Click Funeral Home Farragut Chapel with funeral services to follow at 7 p.m. with Rev. Brad Brinson officiating. Maltman, Elizabeth Ann (Annie), age 67, of Farragut, TN, formerly of Bay Shore, Long Island, NY, passed away early Friday morning December 14, 2001 at her home. Annie was an employee of Brookhaven Hospital for many years and also did home care and hospice in Long Island. Survivors: husband of 46 years, Charles William Maltman Sr. (Charlie); children, Thomas G. Maltman, wife, Ellen and children, Kelly, Jason and Kevin all of East Islip, NY, Catherine Grello, husband, Fred and children, Billy, Monica, Chrissy, Ali and Matthew all of Farragut, Charles William Maltman Jr. of Farragut; sisters, Marion Cleary of Long Island, NY and Mary Humann of Upland, CA; brothers, Walter Tully of Bay Shore, Long Island, NY and Louis Tully of Nevada; several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at the Church of the Resurrection Episcopal in Lenoir City with funeral services to follow at 11 a. m. with The Rev. Gunnels, Grant C., age 81, of Lenoir City passed away Thursday evening, December 13, 2001 at the Ft. Sanders Loudon Medical Center. Grant was a member of First Baptist Church in Lenoir City. He was a member of Avery Masonic Lodge #593 F & AM, where he recently received his 50 year pin. Grant was a carpenter by trade. He worked for J. A. Jones Construction and later retired from Union Carbide in Loudon in 1979. Grant was preceded in death by parents, Herbert and Eva Gunnels; seven brother and sisters. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Addie Lou Gunnels; son and daughter-in-law, Doug and Vicki Gunnels of Lenoir City; daughter, Ima Connelly of Chattanooga; grandchildren, Cory and Brett Gunnels and Leigh-Taylor Noorbergen; great grandson, Travis White; brother, Thad Gunnels; sister, Della Mae Gunnels; several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Sunday in the Click Funeral Home Chapel with funeral services to follow at 2 p.m. Rev. Dick DeMerchant and Rev. Effert Snodderly will officiate. A masonic service will follow conducted by Avery Masonic Lodge. Burial will follow in the Loudon Co. Memorial Gardens. Click Funeral Home, Lenoir City is serving the family of Grant Gunnels.
