Johnson, Mary Elizabeth France, age 80, of Lenoir City, passed away Friday, August 15, 2003, at the Baptist Health Care Center. She was a member of Nelson Street Baptist Church. Elizabeth was the last surviving child of John and Ethel France. She was preceded in death by husband, Ernest A. Johnson; daughters, Mary Frances Burns and Ellen Johnson; son, David Johnson. Survived by children, Stanley Johnson and wife, Darlene of Lenoir City, Robert E. Johnson of Kingsport, John R. Johnson and wife, Linda, Alice Bivens and husband, Bob, Ernie Johnson and wife, Connie, Donny Johnson and wife, Vicki all of Lenoir City; 16 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; 4 great great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Williams, Albert C., age 72, of Deltona, Fl. formerly of Lenoir City, passed away Monday, August 11, 2003, in Florida. He was a Veteran of the Korean War serving in the Navy. Albert was a Mason and a former Sunday School Teacher at Calvary Baptist Church in Lenoir City. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Mary Grace Williams; sons, John Williams of Lenoir City and Robert Williams of Knoxville; daughters, Sharon Webb of Plano, Tx. and Donna Moore of Lenoir City; 9 grandchildren; sisters, Violet Wiggins of Lenoir City, Helen Dickerson of Murfreesboro and Kay Nichols of Loudon. The family will receive friends from 10 to 12 noon Saturday at Click Funeral Home in Lenoir City with funeral services to follow at 12 noon with Rev. Clarence Sexton officiating. Ableiter, Nellie Reed, age 92, of Lenoir City, formerly of Leisure World, Silver Spring, Maryland, passed away Thursday, August 14, 2003, at her home. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church. Nellie was born in Sentinel Butte, North Dakota, where she graduated from the University of North Dakota. She was a Red Cross Nurses Aid during World War II. Nellie was a true entrepreneur working as an interior decorator, a realtor and later in life managing two hospital gift shops. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Hazel Reed; husband, J. Kenneth Ableiter; a grandson along with three sisters and one brother. Survivors include her three children: Mr. and Mrs. Duane Ableiter of Montross, VA, Mr. and Mrs. Gerald (Erlys) Ploeger of Loudon, TN, and Mr. and Mrs. Kurt Von Hurst (Allene) of Westminster, MD; eleven grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. A celebration of life will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday, August 19, 2003 at the Church of the Resurrection in Loudon, TN with Rev. SuZanne Seavey officiating. Miller, Ruby Lee Branaum, age 76, of Loudon, formerly of Lenoir City, passed away Saturday, August 16, 2003, at her home. Ruby formerly attended Highland Park Baptist Church in Lenoir City. She and her late husband owned and operated the former Sunoco Service Station in Lenoir City. Ruby was preceded in death by her husband, Ray; sisters, Edith McCallie and Ocie Lewis; brothers, Sam and Mitch Branaum. She is survived by her brother, James K. Branaum and his wife, Edith, with whom she made her home; sister, Rosalee Nokes of Douglasville, GA; several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 6-7:30 p.m. Monday followed by funeral services at 7:30 p.m. in the Click Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Doyle Scott will officiate. Guider, Ernest C., age 72, of Lenoir City, passed away Saturday, August 16, 2003, at his home. He was of the Baptist Faith. Ernie was a veteran of the Korean War serving in the United States Army. He was an employee of Hawkins Mortuary for eight years. Ernie served three terms as Sheriff of Loudon County from 1962-1968 and as a United States Deputy Marshall form 1970-1991. He was a member of American Legion Post 70 and a lifetime member of Fraternal Order of Police. Ernie was also a Mason. He was preceded in death by his parents, James Perry and Sarah Elizabeth Guider; sisters: Louise Rymer, Christina Sowards and Novella Guider; brothers, Perry (Bud) Guider and Kenny Guider. Ernie is survived by his wife of 51 years, Ruth Guider; daughters, Diane Qualls and husband, Lonnie of Cincinnati, OH, Nancy Henson and husband, Jon of Loudon; son, Dennis Guider and wife, Kristi, of Lenoir City; grandchildren: Ben, Mary and Sarah Qualls, Franklin Henson, Deana Guider and Kelsey Palmer; sisters: Lillian Chrisman of Lenoir City, Thelma Johnson of Kingston, Polly Grove and Marie Rymer both of Knoxville; brother, Benny Wayne Guider of Maryville; several nieces and nephews. Proaps, James R. (Bob) - age 76, of Lenoir City, went to be with the Lord Sunday morning, August 17, 2003. Bob was a member of First Baptist Church in Lenoir City for 71 years and the Avery Masonic Lodge #593 F&AM. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the United States Army . He was a retired environmentalist working with the Loudon County Health Department for 40 years and as a Loudon County and Lenoir City Health Officer for 30 years. Bob was instrumental in opening the first Loudon County Health Department on January 2, 1949. He was preceded in death by his parents, Will and Lilly Belle Proaps; brothers: Raymond, Paul, Kenneth, Wayne and Harold; sister, Willie Ruth. Bob is survived by his wife of 55 years, Delores E. (Dee) Proaps; sons: Jerry Proaps wife, JoAnn, Byron Proaps and wife, Sally, Jonathan Proaps and wife, Susan all of Lenoir City; 10 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren; sisters, Barbara Bright and husband, Allen, Sue Tilley and husband, Ron; sisters-in-law, Alice Proaps and Edna Proaps. Ramey, Howard W., age 84, of Louisville formerly of Lenoir City, passed away Tuesday, August 19, 2003 at his home after a lengthy illness. He was a member of Mountain View Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rites and Shriners. Howard was a member of Plumbers and Steamfitters Local 102 in Knoxville for 49 years and was a member of Four Miles Baptist Church in Maryville. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Effie Rose Ramey; daughters, Thetta Sue Hensley and husband, Robert of Louisville, Lavonne Taylor and husband, Doyle of Louisville; four grandchildren, Lyn Akins and wife, Terry of Atlanta, Ga., Lori Roberts and husband, Allen of Maryville, Jan Taylor of Louisville and Jill Stichka and husband, Lee of Florence, Al.; 1 great grandchild, Anna Akins of Atlanta, Ga.; sisters, Helen Radford, Irene Carter both of Murphy, N.C., Blanche Hubbard of Lula, Ga. and Mildred Hoak of Fayetteville, Ga.; several nieces and nephews. Watkins, Robert I., age 78, of Athens, passed away Wednesday morning, August 20, 2003 at his home. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Athens. Robert retired from Atlantic Steel. He served in the U. S. Army during World War II where he was in the 3rd wave of the Normandy Beach Invasion. He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Elsie Click Watkins; daughters: Joyce Davis and husband, Junior, Judy Moore, Bobbie Davenport, Betty Collins and husband, David, Debbie Reynolds and husband, Dale of Ooltewah; grandchildren: Matthew Davis, Christopher, Leslie, Stacie and Cindy Davidson, Robert Doty, Amy Davenport, Julie and David Reitz, Blain, Jimmy, and Allie Reynolds; brothers, Charlie Watkins and wife, Elizabeth of Douglasville, Ga. and Virgil Watkins of Marietta, Ga.; sister, Rosie Gobel and husband, Robert of Ellijay, Ga.; several nieces and nephews. McKinney, Grady Eugene (Gene), age 83, of Farragut passed away Wednesday evening, August 20, 2003 at Park West Hospital. Gene was a member of Concord United Methodist Church for 52 years and was an active participant in the choir, serving as choir director in early years. He served on various church committees. He was a talented craftsman, building the communion table, altar railing, pulpit, lectern and baptismal font for the CUMC. In 2000 Gene revised and extended the written history of the church. In 2003 he completed a display case to house collections from the original Concord Methodist Church. He performed in many Clarence Brown Theatre musical productions and was a past member of the Knoxville Choral Society. Gene retired as Advertising Manager from Robertshaw Fulton Co with 44 years of service. Since 1997 he was an archaeological computer draftsman for the Torre de Palma Project, Portugal. He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Grady (T.G.)and Mae McConnell McKinney. Survivors: wife of 60 years, Helen Patton McKinney; daughters and son-in-law, Sarah McNabb of Louisville, KY, Nancy and Richard Romanus Sr. of Roanoke, VA; grandson, Richard Romanus Jr. of Seattle, WA; brother and sister-in-law, Vernon L. and Peggy McKinney of Knoxville; nieces, Karen McKinney-Taylor and husband John of Knoxville, Janet Scott of Nashville; several cousins and two special friends, Stephanie and Tom Maloney of Louisville, KY. Thomason, Louise Wycoff age 91, currently of Lenoir City, passed away Thursday, August 21, 2003 at the home of her grandson. She attended Sixth Avenue Church of God. Louise was a purple heart Mother. Preceded in death by her husband, Fred Thomason; parents; sons, James Robert Stroup and Dr. John Thomason; grandson, John Thomason, Jr. Survived by grandson, James Thomason of Lenoir City; very special daughter-in-law and caregiver, Gail Hamilton of Lenoir City. Lance, Don R., age 59, of Knoxville, passed away early Friday, morning August 22, 2003, at his home after a 33 year struggle with Multiple Sclerosis. Don was retired from the U. S. Air Force as a Staff Sgt. After retirement, Don worked with the Monroe County Sheriff's Dept and was a volunteer with the Monroe County Rescue Squad. He was a Golden Eagle Charter member of the National Rifle Association. Don enjoyed NASCAR, fishing, the lake and traveling. He loved his babies, Lulu and Skeeter. Don was of the Baptist faith and believed in the Lord and Jesus Christ. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Ginger Lance who was also his best friend; son and special friend, Roger Reagan and wife, Kim, son, Cecil Reed and wife Shona; granddaughter, Taylor Moody; several other grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews; special nieces, Carla Captain and Jackie Morgan and husband Mike; special nephew, Charles Reagan; sisters-in-law, Mitzi (Sis) Shirey, Becky Shirey and husband Greg all of Knoxville, Lenoir City and Oak Ridge and many extended family members in Tellico Plains. Richardson, Harold Ray of Northport, Alabama formerly of Lenoir City, passed away Thursday, August 21, 2003 at home surrounded by his loved ones. He was retired Senior Engineer from Alabama Power Company. Harold graduated from the University of Tennessee in March of 1959 with a Bachelor's of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering and was a member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity. Everyone that knew Harold knew that he was a die hard University of Tennessee Football Fan, and stood by his team though good times and bad. Even more important, he was a devoted, loved, and wonderful Father, Husband, Brother and Friend. He was preceded in death by his parents, Otis Levis and Bessie Hudson Richardson; his two brothers, Donald Gene and Max Ralph Richardson; and his daughter, Amy Nell Richardson. Sandra was preceded in death by her father, Elmer Brown. Survived by children, Krystal Lynn Cannon and Kayla Nicole Smallen; mother, Willie Brackett Duncan and husband, Chuck of Lenoir City; sisters, Cherri Barron and husband, Bobby of Friendsville, Gail Silvey and Anne Suddath both of Lenoir City; several nieces and nephews. Hartsook, Mildred Alice Evans age 83, a native of Lenoir City, passed away Friday, August 22, 2003, in Asheville, NC. She had lived in the Asheville area for the past three years. Mildred retired from Lenoir City Utilities Board in 1985 after 17 years of service. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Lenoir City. She was born January 2, 1920, in Lenoir City, the daughter of the late William Frederick and Martha Jane Monger Evans. She was the widow of James Martin Hartsook, who died in 1982. She was also preceded in death by three brothers, Rupert, Jerry, and Raymond Evans, and three sisters, Grace E. Gallaher, Irene E. Edwards, and Eva Lee E. Robbins. She is survived by one sister, Louise E. Ferguson of Lenoir City; two daughters, Linda Hartsook Lewis and her husband, Bob of Asheville, NC and Jane Hartsook Nacke and her husband, Phil of Washington, DC; four grandchildren: Robert Martin Lewis and his wife, Chris of Asheville, NC, Ashley Marie Lewis and her fiancee, Rick Patriacca of Edwards, CO., Evan Philip Nacke of Washington, DC and Cambridge, England, and Eliot Anthony Nacke of Washington, DC and Durham, NC; two great grandchildren, Anna Grace Lewis and Oliver Martin Lewis of Asheville, NC. Liao, Rui-Ru, age 83, of Taiwan passed away Friday, August 22, 2003 at the home of her daughter in Knoxville, TN. She was born on April 5, 1920 in Silo, Taiwan to Dr. Jen Liao and Dan Tchen. Mrs. Liao was a retired Home Economics teacher in Taiwan for thirty years. She graduated from Taipei's Third Girls' High School and Tokyo Women's College. Mrs. Liao was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Dr. Chan-Hwei Liu. Survivors include son, C.Y. Liu, MD and wife, Ruth of Ooltewah, TN; daughter, Lily Wu and husband, Chuen Shiong Wu, MD of Knoxville, TN; grandchildren, Irene Wu, Christine Wu and husband Paul Le Bel, Brian Liu and wife Esther, and Lora Liu; and three brothers in Taiwan. Driver, Penelope C. (Penny) age 50 of Knoxville, formerly of Bowling Green, KY, passed away early Saturday morning, August 23, 2003, at her home. Penny was a member of Eastwood Baptist Church in Bowling Green. She was an employee of Peninsula Behavioral Health Services in Knoxville serving as Director of Community Development. Penny was a past board member of IAPRS, and a long-time teacher of Journey of Hope. She was a member of NAMI, TMHCA and TAMHO. Penny was on the Tennessee Region Two Mental Health Council and on the Mental Illness Awareness Coalition. She was a graduate of Bowling Green High School. She received her bachelors and masters degree from Western Kentucky University. She received another masters degree from the University of Tennessee. She was a Kentucky Colonel. Survivors: parents, Carl and Maryland M. Driver; sisters and brothers-in-law, Sheila and Leo Frank of Bowling Green, Sherry and Chuck Keown all of Bowling Green; nephews, Seth Frank and wife Windy of Johnson City, TN, Chad Frank; nieces, Charli Anne, Samantha and Jillian Keown all of Bowling Green; several aunts and uncles. Liles, Herman Smith, age 88, of Lenoir City, passed away Saturday evening, August 23, 2003, at the Ft. Sanders Loudon Hospital. He had been a resident of Loudon Health Care for three years. Herman was a member of Hines Valley Baptist Church. He retired from Eatons School and was a longtime farmer. He served in World War II with the United States Army. He was a member of the Eaton Ruritan Club. Herman was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Fain Liles; parents, Walter and Ethel Rupe Liles; brothers, Carson and J.W. Liles. He is survived by his brother, Leonard Liles and wife, Mary of Lenoir City; sisters, Hazel Fain, Faye Roberts and her husband, Jim all of Loudon; Herman leaves a host of nieces and nephews including special niece and caretaker, Becky and her husband, Dan. Watson, Argie Palmer - age 89, formerly of Lenoir City, passed away Saturday, August 23, 2003 at Baptist Dekalb Hospital in Smithville. She was a member of West Broadway Baptist Church in Lenoir City. A retired employee of Charles Bacon Hosiery Mill. Argie was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Watson; sons: David, Buford, Frank and Lacey Palmer; parents, George Boyd and Cordelia Bramlett Worley; brother, William Worley; sisters: Sena McCormick, Cora Swatzell and Ida McDaniel. Argie is survived by her children, Charlotte McCormick and her husband, J.C. of McMinnville, Gary Palmer and his wife, Teresa, of Lenoir City; 24 grandchildren, several great granchildren and great great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday in the Click Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Sam Petty and Rev. Jack Palmer officiating. Burial will follow in the Lakeview Cemetery. Hollis, Margaret Ann Brown (Buck) - age 81, of Lenoir City, passed away Saturday evening, August 23, 2003 at the FT. Sanders Loudon Hospital. Margaret helped establish Bills Restaurant in Knoxville in the 1940s. She was a former member of the Flying Boatmen Club, the West Hills Garden Club, and the VFW Womens Auxillary. She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Hollis; her mother, Rose Dunlap Brown; her brothers, Elmer and Virgil Brown and her step-son, Howard Anthony (Tony) Hollis. Margaret is survived by her daughters, Debbie Murphy and her husband, Michael of Knoxville, Delores Smith and her husband, Teddy Paul of Concord; step-children, Donna Mitchell and her husband, Eugene of Vonore, Mike Hollis of Lenoir City; grandchildren: Heather Michelle Margulies and husband, Kevin of the Netherlands, Tori Leigh Moore of Lenoir City, Tasha Cook, Telisha Gentry and Tony Mitchell all of Vonore, Cory and Taylor Hollis of Lenoir City; great- grandchildren, McKenzie and Brooke Moore of Lenoir City; several nieces and nephews; very special friend, Gee Dudley of Newport News, VA. The family will receive friends from 6-7:30 p.m. Tuesday followed by funeral services at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Click Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. A.J. Crawford officiating. Family and friends will gather at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Click Funeral Home and proceed to the Lakeview Cemetery for an 11 a.m. graveside service. Freels, Gladys - age 84, of Lenoir City, passed away Saturday evening, August 23, 2003, at the Baptist Hospital in Knoxville. She was preceded in death by her parents, E.M. and Thursa Ann Watson Freels; grandson, James Freels; sister, Daisy Grubb; brothers: Harold, James and Albert Freels. Gladys is survived by her sons: Hershel (Bud) Freels and his wife, Judy of Midtown, Glenn Freels and his wife, Shirley of Lebanon, John Lee of Antioch; several grandchildren, one great grandchild and many nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Monday at Click Funeral Home in Lenoir City. Family and friends will gather at the funeral home by 10:30 Tuesday and proceed to Bethel Cemetery in Oak Ridge for an 11 a.m. graveside service. Johnson, Edward Dewayne (Big Ed) - age 39 of Lenoir City, passed away Sunday morning, August 24, 2003, at his home. Eddie was preceded in death by his father, George W. Johnson. He is survived by his mother, Shirley Johnson; sister, Virginia Duncan; aunt, Dixie Heape; uncle, Luther R. Manning all of Lenoir City; several cousins. Buckner, John R., age 75, of Knoxville, passed away Sunday, August 24, 2003, at NHC Cavett Hill. John was a member of the First Farragut United Methodist Church. He was retired from Georgia Pacific Corp. and Dealers Warehouse Corp. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. John was preceded in death by his wife, Estelle B. Buckner; brothers, William, Charlie and Tommy Buckner. Survivors: daughter and son-in-law, Glenna and Robin Manning; sons and daughters-in-law, Terry and Pat Buckner, Artie and Kathy Buckner; grandchildren, Jonathan and Meredith Manning, Joshua, Megan, Benjamin, Andrew, Kaitlin, Caleb Buckner; several nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Life will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, August 26, 2003 in the Click Funeral Home Farragut Chapel with Rev. Richard Edwards and Rev. Bernice Kirkland officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service. Family and friends will gather at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Edgewood Cemetery for graveside services and interment. Barron, Robert Eugene, age 43, of Concord passed away Friday afternoon, August 15, 2003 at Park West Hospital after a long struggle with liver disease. He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Barron. Survivors: mother, Mary Elizabeth Shields Barron; brother and sister-in-law, David and Rhonda Barron of Houston, TX; several aunts, uncles and cousins. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 20, 2003 at 4 p.m. at the Concord Masonic Cemetery with Rev. Steve Peek officiating. Pruitt, Alice Marshall, age 59,of Loudon, passed away Wednesday evening, August 27, 2003, at the Parkwest Medical Center. She was a member of Bell Avenue Baptist Church in Lenoir City. She was preceded in death by her husband, George Pruitt; parents, Jack and Violet Myers Marshall and uncle, Warren Simpson. Alice is survived by her faithful companion, Cledith Welch of Loudon; Kenny and Darlene Fagg, Phyllis and Jeff Simpson and several other cousins. Graveside services and interment will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Lakeview Cemetery with Rev. George Seay officiating.
