Rasar, Charles, age 83, of Loudon, passed away Saturday, December 3, 2005. He was a member of Pine Top Primitive Baptist Church. A retired engineer from W.L.I.L. Radio Station. Charles was a veteran of W. W. II serving in the U. S. Army. Preceded in death by parents, Harvey and Emma Rasar; brother, Ray Rasar. Walker, Rev. Robert C. - born May 15, 1911, passed away December 3, 2005. He was born in Grainger County, TN later moving to Lenoir City, TN and Chickamauga, GA. Rev. Walker while working most of his years with Southern Railway, pastored many churches locally and in Chickamuga, GA. He was instrumental in organizing five new churches. For the past five years, he has served as weekly devotional leader at Farragut Health Care Center. After retiring, he returned to Tennessee where he was known for his tomatoes and other vegetables that he sold by the roadside. Rev. Walker was preceded in death by his wife, Mae Hammer Walker; son, Lendell Walker; son-in-law, Gene Brown and daughter-in-law, Brenda Walker. He is survived by his wife, Florence (Pon) Walker; daughters, Laverne Walker Brown, Enzelle Silvey and husband, Ben of Lenoir City; sons, Darrell Walker and wife, Pat of Ellenwood, GA, Xan Walker and wife, Cricket of Lenoir City, Dorman Walker and wife, Susie of Canton, GA; 10 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; 5 great great grandchildren; 6 step grandchildren; 14 step great grandchildren; 3 step great great grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Gemma Lou Hite and husband, Tom; 2 step sons, J. Bruner, Willie Mae, age 82, of Knoxville, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, December 3, 2005, at the Baptist Health Care Center in Lenoir City. Willie grew up in the Cave Creek Community in Roane County and made her home in North Knoxville. She was a member of Alice Bell Baptist Church. Willie Mae and her husband owned and operated W.C. Bruner Construction Company. She was preceded in death by her husband, W.C. Bruner; parents, R.C. Dutton and Ada Cook Dutton. Willie Mae is survived by her daughter, Rhonda Davis of Knoxville; step-daughter, Daphana Marcella Page of Woodruff, SC; grandson, Andy Massey; great-grandchildren, Chas Massey and Katie Massey of Woodruff, SC; sisters: Alma (Rassie) Condrey and husband, Glen, Bobbie Hamby and husband, Gene of all Lenoir City, Nancy Covington and husband, Robert of Atlanta; brother, Kenneth Dutton and wife, Kay of Lenoir City; several nieces and nephews. Brown, Scott Charles - age 37 of Indianapolis, IN died on Thursday, December 1, 2005. He was born on July 31, 1968 in Hannibal, MO, to Richard W. Brown and Elizabeth Sue Brown. Scott was a graduate of Barrington High School and the University of Illinois in 1991. He has worked in the hospitality business, specifically, with hotels in Knoxville, Phoenix, Des Moines, and Indianapolis. In Indianapolis, he was the Assistant General Manager with the Adams Mark Hotel downtown and more recently, with the Radisson Hotel as the Assistant Director of Sales. Scott was an avid golfer. Scott is survived by his fiancee’, Lisa Sproull; one daughter, Madison Elizabeth Brown of Stephanville, TX; his parents, Elizabeth Sue Brown and Richard W. Brown of Tellico Village; siblings, Michael W. Brown of Nashville and Kari L. Zeitz (Jon) of Knoxville; uncles, Charles Shoop (Penny) of Loleta, CA and Lynn Brown (Susan) of St. Louis, MO. O'Hair, Richard Hicks (Dick), Of West Knoxville TN, died Sunday Dec. 4, following surgery for Pancreatic Cancer. He was born July 30, 1923 in Muskogee, OK to Ralph M. & Clara Hicks O’Hair. He grew up in Rock Hill SC and graduated from Winthrop Training School in 1941. His college education was interrupted for three years by World War II, and as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Infantry he saw action in France, Austria and Germany. He graduated from Davidson College in 1947 where he was a member of the Phi Gamma Delta Fraternity, Football, Wrestling and Track teams, ODK, and 1946 All-State Football Team. He also played for the Charlotte Clippers semi-pro football club. He married the former Harriette Dixon Grice on June 26, 1948. He was self-employed for many years in the insurance and estate planning field in Charlotte and worked for several years as a substitute teacher at Oak Ridge High School. In 1997, at the age of 74 he earned his MBA from Tusculum College. He was a member of Trinity Presbyterian Church and later of First Presbyterian Church in Oak Ridge, serving as an Elder and teacher. He was devoted to his children and grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Frances O’Hair Gayle. He is survived by caregiver and daughter Bonnie O’Hair Murray and husband Sydney of the home, Amy O’Hair-Smith and husband Joe of Charlotte, a son Richard (Hap) O’Hair, Jr. and wife Karen of High Point, NC, the children’s mother Harriette Grice O’Hair, grandchildren Sydney Murray III, Richard O’Hair III, Colin Smith, Ashley O’Hair and Keely Smith and a brother Ralph M. O’Hair, Jr. Interment will be in the East TN State Veterans Cemetery. A memorial service will be held at 5:30 p.m. Thursday at First Presbyterian Church in Oak Ridge with full military honors. Amburn, Rev. Marion Hartsell, age 72, of Lenoir City, went to be the with Lord on Friday, December 9, 2005. He was a retired minister and ordained Elder with the Church of the Nazarene. Hartsell pastored over 40 years in Georgia, Tennessee and South Carolina. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army serving in Germany. Preceded in death by parents, Joe H. Amburn and Myrtle Amburn; sister, Ernestine Snyder; brothers, Charles Amburn and Wayne Amburn. Dutton, Arthur Martin, age 82, of Knoxville, passed away Friday December 9, 2005. He attended Second United Methodist Church in Knoxville and was the owner of Arthur’s Beauty Salon for many years. Arthur was a veteran of WWII serving in the U.S. Navy. He was formerly active in the Lions Club and was a member of the Sons of the American Revolution. Preceded in death by his wife, Juanita Dutton; parents, Charles M. and Freddie Dutton; brother, Ashley Dutton; sisters, Ruth Eldridge and Mary Gustafson. Dutton, Margaret Neeley - age 90, Margaret was born on September 22, 1915 and passed away Sunday, December 13, 2005 at Centennial Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee. She was affectionately known as Granny Margaret to almost all who knew her and will be greatly missed by her family and friends. She retired from Eaton Corporation in 1977. Granny Margaret was an avid gardener who loved her family, her church and "Coon Creek," her beloved home. She was a member of the Second Baptist Church of Lenoir City. She was preceded in death by her husband, James K. Dutton; her parents, Charles Lee Neeley and Eva Ault Neeley Langley Collins; grandsons, Billy Joe Packett, Jr. and Teddy Joe Packett; sister, Ruby Ritchey and Hazel Lena Neeley; brothers, C. J. Baker, Mack Christopher, born December 13, 1954, passed away at 7:30 a.m. on December 12, 2005 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Mack will be celebrating his 51st birthday in heaven with his Lord Jesus Christ. Mack struggled valiantly with cancer for the past six years. He and Amy worked often with the Mission of Hope. He loved his church, and church family of First Baptist Church Concord. He was a member of the Buddy Bradley Sunday School Class. He served his country in the United States Marines. Mack worked as a courier for DOE and a videographer for Lockheed. Hanna, Stanley Michael (Mike), age 54 of Knoxville, TN, formerly of Beryl, WVA, passed away Friday evening, December 9, 2005 at his home. Mike was a member of St. John Neumann Catholic Church. He was a member of Cedar Bluff Racquet Club and was an avid tennis player and golfer. Mike had a highly successful 30 year career in sales and sales management. He started in sales with Air-Shields in 1982. Mike later was employed by Omnicell Inc. As VP of Sales and operations. Mike is presently employed as Executive VP of Sales and Marketing of One Source Returns. Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Margaret and John Hanna. Survivors: wife, Nancy Hanna; children, Donna Hanna of Richmond, VA, Mike Hanna and wife,Veronica of Kyle, TX; sister and brother-in-law, Karen and Barry Robertson of Virginia Beach, VA; nephews, Brian and Jason Robertson. Smith, Alice Isabelle, age 76, of Greenback, passed away suddenly Tuesday, December 13, 2005 at her home. She was a member of the Church of Latter Day Saints. Preceded in death by husband, Avery Smith; brother, Robert Rogers and sister, Grace Rogers. Survived by son, Gary Smith and wife, Desiree’ of Greenback; sisters, Marian Carter, Frances Leko, Ellen Truitt, Ruthie Cox, and Audrey King; brother, William Rogers; several nieces and nephews. PRATER, ROBERT M. – age 61, formerly of Concord, TN, passed away suddenly on Sunday, December 11, 2005, at his home in Westmont, IL. born Feb 11, 1944 and reared in rural Knox County, Robert graduated from Farragut High School, Class of 1961, where he was a member of the baseball team. He also attended DeVry Institute in Chicago. Upon his retirement this year, Robert planned to move his family back to his beloved East Tennessee to be among family and friends. Always a country boy at heart, he was an avid gardener who loved working in his flower gardens raising many varieties around his home. His many birdfeeders and birdbaths attracted finches, cardinals, and other birds he loved to watch. Robert enjoyed building a roaring fire, having a pizza and watching golf on TV with his wife. Friends and family knew him as a hardworking, good-natured man, who loved to playfully tease and tell stories of his childhood on the farm. Longtime co-workers described him as classy, down-to-earth, and personable. He always made people feel at ease. He will be deeply missed by his wife, son, family, and all who knew him. Robert was preceded in death by: his parents, Dewey Adam Prater and Dora Paul Prater Lawhorn; brothers, Paul F. (Joe) Prater and Jackie Prater; nephew Joey Prater; stepbrother, Samuel Lawhorn; and step-sister, Lillian Hall. He is survived by: his devoted wife and best friend of 37 years, Jayne Willis Prater; beloved son, Jack Allan (Honey Bear) Prater, both of Westmont; sister and brother-in-law, Karen and Jerry Sisk of Farragut; brothers and sisters-in-law, Gene and Carol Prater of Lenoir City, Tom and Kathy Prater of Jacksonville, FL, and Gary Prater of Rocklin, CA; special sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Marilyn and Jim Platte of Naperville, IL; stepsister, Nell McKelvey; stepbrother, Howard Lawhorn and wife Betty, and stepsister-in-law, Neta Lawhorn. Virginia Olive Carter, age 97, died 12/17/05, at Lenoir City TN. A life-long resident of the city, she was the daughter of Eugene Bardwell Carter, former President of Holston Manufacturing Co. and Martha America (Mattie) Dyer Carter. A socialite, Carter made her debut at the Cherokee Country Club, Knoxville, TN in 1928, and completed her education at Gunston Hall, a finishing school, in Washington, DC. Later, she married Frederic Pitcairn Brandt, an "All Southern" end on the Univ. of TN football team. They had no children.
The Carters were among the founders of The Church of the Resurrection, Episcopal, Lenoir City-Loudon and Blanche Dyer Hooper, New York City, made a substantial contribution to the building of it. They remained active in both church and community.
Ms. Carter is descended from the Jefferson and Dyer families of Virginia and a cousin, many generations removed, of President Thomas Jefferson. Ms. Carter will be laid to rest with her parents and Dyer grandparents at Greenhill Cemetery, Danville, VA at 11 a.m. Wednesday, December 21. Vineyard, Edward Earl, age 83, of Lenoir City, passed away Wednesday at Blount Memorial Hospital. Ed attended Hickory Valley Baptist Church. He was retired from Caterpillar Tractor Co. and was a member of U. A. W. Union. Preceded in death by wife, Judith Vineyard; parents, John and Myrtle Vineyard; sisters, Juanita Haskins and Betty Vineyard; brothers, Chuck and James Vineyard. Survived by his four children, Jeanette Waters of Glendale, Kimberly Nichols of Maryville, Edward O. Vineyard and wife, Kathy of Glendale, James Edward Vineyard and wife, Lisa of Maryville; 13 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 12 to 2 p.m. Friday at Click Funeral Home, Lenoir City. Funeral services will follow at 2 p.m. Friday in the Click Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Charles Carpenter officiating. Burial will follow in Lakeview Cemetery. Military honors will be conferred by VFW Post 5150, American Legion Post 120, 70 and 256. Redmond, James E. (Eddie), age 58, of Lenoir City, passed away Wednesday, December 21, 2005. Eddie was a veteran of the Vietnam War serving in the United States Army. He had resided at Loudon Health Care Center for the last several years. Eddie was preceded in death by his grandmother, Mamie Glass and his father, James I. Redmond. He is survived by his mother, Katherine Jenkins of Lenoir City; brother and sister-in-law, Dwight L. and Georgia Redmond of Lenoir City; son, Donnie Redmond and wife, Tanya; daughter, Carolyn Redmond all of Lenoir City; 5 grandchildren, Bradley & Seth, Chelsea, Colby and Destiny; niece, Tabitha Redmond of Denver, CO and many cousins. Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Friday in the Click Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Ernie Varner officiating. Burial will follow in the Lenoir City Cemetery with full military honors being conferred by VFW Post 5150 and American Legion Posts 120, 70 and 256. Bailey, Nellie Early, age 84, of Greenback, passed away Thursday, December 22, 2005. She was of the Baptist Faith. Preceded in death by husband, Hugh Bailey; parents, Jim and Stella Early; brother, Zack Early and sister, Virginia Ledbetter. Survived by children, Sharron Hamilton of Mountain City, Bill Bailey and wife, Nancy of Middleville, MI, Jim Bailey and wife, Linda of Greenback; brother, James Early of Lenoir City; several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Click Funeral Home, Lenoir City. Family and friends will gather at 10 a.m. Saturday in Jackson Cemetery in Greenback for graveside services. Click Funeral Home, Lenoir City is serving the family of Nellie Early Bailey.
