Willis Hatfield

Willis Hatfield, of Dayton, died Monday, April 5, 1999, at Rhea Medical Center. He was 53.
Mr. Hatfield attended St. Bridget Catholic Church. He was preceded in death by his father, Willie Hatfield, and brother, Will G.B. Hatfield.
Survivors include his wife, Sylvia J. Hatfield; two daughters, Lecia G. Jones of Clinton, Tenn. and Carol D. Foust of Lake City, Tenn.; one son, Will G.B. Hatfield of Claxton, Tenn.; mother, Alfea Brown of Dunlap; three sisters, Linda Fay Doss and Nancey and Zora Etta Brown, all of Dunlap; four brothers, John E., Wilbert and Norman Hatfield and Mitchell T. Brown, all of Dunlap; eight grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were conducted Thursday, April 8, at East Valley Baptist Church with Rev. Dennis Boston officiating. Burial was in Davis Chapel Cemetery. Putnam-Standefer-Reed Funeral Home in Dunlap was in charge of the arrangements.
Irene P. Brown

Irene P. Brown, of Dayton, died Sunday, April 11, 1999, at Rhea Medical Center. She was 73.
Born Dec. 26, 1925, in Jellico, Tenn., to James and Mattie Born Dec. 26, 1925, in Jellico, Tenn., to James and Mattie Newby Price, she lived in Rhea County all her life. Mrs. Brown retired from Oster Corporation in Dayton after 15 years as a machine operator. She was of the Baptist Faith. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lester Brown, on June 13, 1994; two sons, Leonard Shelby and Marvin Davis; and three daughters, Arlene Davis, Mary Shelby Dalton and Linda Hancock.
Survivors include four sons, Virgil Day of Crossville, Ray Shelby of Dayton, Johnny Shelby of Sale Creek and James Brown of Dayton; two daughters, Nellie Harmon and Peggy Carlyle, both of Dayton; three sisters, Francis Holloway of Spring City, Jean Edwards of Battle Creek, Mich., and Dorothy Nagel of Michigan; two brothers, Frank Price of Columbus, Ohio, and Jim Price of Tennessee.
Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, April 13, in the chapel of Vanderwall Funeral Home with Rev. Audie May officiating. Burial was in Rhea Memory Gardens in Dayton. Vanderwall Funeral Home in Dayton was in charge of arrangements.
Ova Lee Brown

Ova Lee Brown, of Spring City, died Thursday, April 15, 1999, at Erlanger Medical Center in Chattanooga. She was 76.
A lifelong resident of Rhea County, she retired from Southern Silk Mill and was of the Baptist faith. Mrs. Brown was preceded in death by her husband, George O. Brown Sr.; and brother, Frank Coulter.
Survivors include two sons, David Brown and George O. Brown Jr., both of Spring City; two sisters, Maltie Norris of Dayton and Carmel Mulkey of Graysville; two grandchildren, one great-grandchild and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were conducted Saturday, April 17, in the chapel of Vaughn Funeral Home with Rev. Mike Grace officiating. Burial was in Spring City Cemetery. Vaughn Funeral Home in Spring City was in charge of the arrangements.
Imogene Powell
Died: 04/14/1999
Imogene Powell, of Dayton, died Wednesday, April 14, 1999, in a Chattanooga hospital. She was 66.
A lifelong resident of Rhea County, she was a member of First Baptist Church of Dayton. Mrs. Powell was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence E. Powell; and father, Lester T. Travis.
Survivors include her son, Wayne Powell; mother, Lena Mary Patton Travis; six sisters, Helen Travis, Lennie Alice Sneed, Maxine White, Anne Roddy and Bennie Aikman, all of Dayton, and Shirley Barnett of Spring City; two brothers, Joe Travis of Cleveland and Bobby Travis of Dayton; granddaughter, Nicole Powell of Jasper, Tenn., and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were conducted Thursday, April 15, in the chapel of Coulter-Garrison Funeral Home with Rev. Milton Knox and Rev. Jeff Dew officiating. Burial was in Buttram Cemetery. Coulter-Garrison Funeral Home in Dayton was in charge of the arrangements.
Beulah Jean Cunningham

Beulah Jean Cunningham, of Graysville, died Thursday, April 8, 1999, at her home. She was 61.
Born March 24, 1938, in Bledsoe County, to James and Dora Norris Davis, she lived in Graysville most of her life. Mrs. Cunningham attended Victory Baptist Church in Dayton. She was a homemaker by trade. She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Dora Norris Davis; husband, Wayne A. Cunningham, on April 3, 1995; and three brothers, John, Jim and Billy Davis.
Survivors include her son, Wayne Alan Cunningham Sr. of Graysville; two grandchildren, Cheyenne Justin and Wayne Alan Jr. Cunningham, both of Graysville; two sisters, Leona Barger of Graysville and Martha Davis of Dayton; three brothers, Tom and Wendell Davis of Dayton and Joe Davis of Grandview.
Funeral services were conducted Sunday, April 4, at Victory Baptist Church in Dayton with Rev. Leland Frazier officiating. Entombment was in Spring City Memorial Garden’s Mausoleum. Vanderwall Funeral Home in Dayton was in charge of the arrangements.
Charles W. Hickey

Charles W. (Bill) Hickey, of Spring City, died Friday, April 2, 1999, at his home. He was 67.
Mr. Hickey served in the U.S. Army and was a Korean War veteran. He was formerly employed by S & W Lumber Company and retired from TVA.
Survivors include his wife, Edna Gillespie Hickey of Spring City; three daughters, Darlene (Alvin) Pendergrass and Vanessa Hickey, both of Spring City, and Renee Hickey of Bakewell; three sons, William (Kim) Gillespie, Charles Hickey, and Stefan (Tracy) Hickey, all of Spring City; sister, Sallie Mac Burum of Oak Ridge; six grandchildren and several other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, April 6, at Euchee Chapel AME Zion Church in Spring City with Rev. L.B. Tate officiating. Burial was in Euchee Cemetery. M.D. Dotson & Sons Funeral Home in Athens was in charge of the arrangements.
Jonathan Lee Daniels

Jonathan Lee Daniels, Jr., of Greenville, Tenn., died Thursday, April 1, 1999, at his home. He was 2.
Daniels attended the Church of God of Prophecy. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Earl Stamps and great-grandfather, Chester Roberts. Survivors include his mother, Lisa Ann Stamps of Greenville; father and step-mother, Jonathan Lee and Billie Daniels of Lenoir City; maternal grandparents, Kathy and Tai DeBlonk of Dayton; paternal grandparents, Butch and Carolyn Daniels of Harriman; great-grandmother, Louise Roberts of Wartburg, Tenn.; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Graveside services were conducted Sunday, April 4, at Cedar Creek Cemetery with Rev. Burgen Taylor and Rev. J.J. Harris officiating. Toby Roberts, Clinton Robeck, Allen Cutshall and Brandon Ivy were active pallbearers. Kiser Funeral Home in Greenville was in charge of the arrangements.
Hester Novella Clark

Hester Novella Clark, of Calhoun, Ga., died Friday, April 2, 1999, at Hutchinson Medical Center following three years of declining health. She was 88.
Mrs. Clark was born in Rhea County on Feb. 2, 1911, to the late Ed and Alice Henderson Morgan. She was retired from the Chattanooga City School System as a cafeteria worker. She was a Christian and attended the Church of God. Mrs. Clark was preceded in death by her husband, Carlos Alfred Clark and two sons, Carlos Clark Jr. and Morgan Jamie Clark.
Survivors include one son, Alford Clark Sr. of Calhoun; five daughters, Delois Gurganus of Panama City, Fla., Louise Newell of Chattanooga, Ruth Garrett of Crossville, Katherine Rema Davenport of Tunnell Hill, Ga., and Mary Lee Brooks of Rossville, Ga.; one sister, Grace Bedwell of Portland, Ore.; and 28 grandchildren and 51 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted Monday, April 5, at Victory Temple Church of God in Calhoun with Rev. Jeff Dutton, Rev. Stanton Erwin and Rev. Tony Sutton officiating. Burial was in Haven of Rest Memorial Park Cemetery in Calhoun. Grandsons served as pallbearers. Vanderwall Funeral Home in Dayton was in charge of local arrangements.
Levolia M. Perkins

Levolia (Jack) M. Perkins, of Chattanooga, died Sunday, March 28, 1999, at Memorial Hospital in Chattanooga. He was 80.
Born in Tulsa, Okla., Mr. Perkins was the son of the late Samuel James and Mary Randall Perkins. He moved to Rhea County after residing in Louisville, Ky., for 40 years. He was a member of the National Roofer’s Union #147 and was of the Baptist Faith.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Adell Reynolds Spencer Perkins; brother, Raymond Perkins; and sister, Mamie Ross. Survivors include his son, Tony Berry of Louisville, Ky.; stepson, Thomas Eugene Spencer of Louisville, Ky.; sister-in-law, Clara Mae Perkins of Spring City; brother-in-law, Henry Strong of Evergreen, Ala.; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services were conducted Saturday, April 3, in the chapel of Vaughn Funeral Home with Rev. James Guthrie officiating. Burial was in Petersburg Cemetery in Spring City. Vaughn Funeral Home in Spring City was in charge of the arrangements.
Frank Joseph Meyer

Frank Joseph Meyer, III, of Garner, N.C., died Wednesday, March 31, 1999, at Wake Medical Center. He was five days old.
Survivors include his parents, Mary Sue and Robert P. Meyer of Garner; sister, Casey L. Meyer of Garner; maternal grandparents, Wanda and Claude White of Spring City; maternal great grandmothers, Hazel Osborne and Zelma White, both of Spring City; and five aunts and eight uncles.
Funeral services were conducted Saturday, April 3, in the chapel of Montlawn Funeral Home. Burial was in Montlawn Memorial Park. Montlawn Funeral Home and Memorial Park in Raleigh, N.C., was in charge of the arrangements.
Max King Landreth

Max King Landreth, of Chattanooga, died Monday, March 29, 1999, at Signal Point National Park in Chattanooga, due to injuries sustained in a hiking accident.

Charles Howard Hayes

Charles (Chuck) Howard Hayes, of Chattanooga, died Wednesday, March 31, 1999. He was 24.
A native of Rhea County, Mr. Hayes moved to Chattanooga 14 years ago. He was a 1993 graduate of Hixson High School and attended Chattanooga State Technical Community College.
Survivors include his mother, Nancy S. Hayes of Chattanooga; father and step-mother, Ted and Brenda Hayes of Spring City; brother, Teddy Hayes of Chattanooga; parental grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles C. Hayes of Knoxville; maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Howard S. Simerly of Knoxville; and several aunts, uncles and cousins of Knoxville.
