Orphia K Burchard
Died: 08/08/1999
Orphia K. Burchard, of Rising Fawn, Ga., died Tuesday, Aug. 3, 1999, at Dade Health and Rehabilitation Center in Trenton, Ga. She was 94.
Born Feb. 5, 1905, in Parson, Kan., Mrs. Burchard lived in Dayton until 1941, then moved to Battle Creek, Mich., where she lived until 1947. She was associated with Mt. Pisgah Academy, a Seventh-day Adventist boarding school in Candler, N.C. She was the director of nurses. Mrs. Burchard moved back in 1970, to the Morgan Springs Community on Dayton Mountain where she live until 1993. Since then, she has lived with her son, Henry Burchard, in Rising Fawn.
A registered nurse at trade, Mrs. Burchard attended Pikeville Seventh Day Adventist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, Theodore Sigel and Orphia J. Strail Klaus.
Survivors include her husband, Wallace H. Burchard of Rising Fawn; sons, Henry Burchard of Rising Fawn, Robert Burchard, missionary in Bangkok, Thailand, and Sam Burchard of Dayton; daughter, Carol Jane Magboo, missionary in Honolulu, Hawaii; sister, Audrey Beale of Dayton; and 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted Saturday, Aug. 7, in the chapel of Vanderwall Funeral Home with Pastor David C. Jones officiating. Burial was in Pleasant View Cemetery in Graysville. Vanderwall Funeral Home in Dayton was in charge of the arrangements.
Bobby Gene Gravett

Bobby Gene Gravett, of Dayton, died Thursday, Aug. 5, 1999, at Rhea Medical Center. He was 61.
Mr. Gravett was a member of White Oak Baptist Church in Dayton and a lifelong resident of Rhea County. He was preceded in death by his father, Eugene Gravett of Dayton.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara Gravett of Dayton; daughters, Vonda Palmer and Crystal Johnson, both of Dayton; mother, Arsula Gravett of Dayton; brothers, Norman and Dewey Gravett, both of Dayton; sisters, Sue Hickman of Evensville, and Kathryn Coulter of Sale Creek; two grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were conducted Saturday, Aug. 7, in the chapel of Coulter-Garrison Funeral Home with Rev. Donnie Hamby, Rev. Stanley Faulkner and Rev. Dana Gravett officiating. Burial was in Brown Cemetery in Evensville. Coulter-Garrison Funeral Home in Dayton was in charge of the arrangements.
Frances Harwell
Died: 09/16/1998
Frances Harwell, 72, of Dayton, died Wednesday, Sept. 16, 1998, in a Sewanee, Tenn., hospital. She was preceded in death by her husband, Arden Harwell.
Survivors include a son, Tommy Harwell of Tracy City, Tenn.; three daughters, Reba Harwell, Brenda Gray and Carolyn Stinnett, all of Dayton; two sisters, Ruth Chambers of Chattanooga and Dorothy Sizemore of Dayton; brother, Clyde Robinson of Dayton; five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and several nieces nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 19, 1998 in the chapel of Coulter Garrison Funeral Home with Rev. Jeff West officiating. Interment will follow the services in Spence Cemetery Dayton. Coulter Garrison Funeral Home in Dayton is in charge of arrangements.
Paul Reed
Died: 08/08/1999
Paul Reed, of Grandview, died Thursday, Aug. 5, 1999, at Cumberland Medical Center in Crossville. He was 49.
A lifelong resident of Rhea County, Mr. Reed was the son of the late Ben and Nellie Mae James Reed. He was a member of Rhea Springs Lodge #210 F&AM and was of the Protestant faith. He was a painter and a member of the International Painters Local #226.
Survivors include his wife, Judy Dye Reed of Grandview; son, Steven Paul Reed of Grandview; brothers, Jim Reed of Sebring, Fla., Ben Reed, Jr. of Grandview, and Tim Reed of Rockwood; sisters, Jean Gresham, Helen May and Gladys Grogan, all of Grandview, and Maxine Waycaster of Avon Park, Fla.; and granddaughter, Kennedy Tatum Reed of Grandview.
Funeral services will be conducted today, Sunday, Aug. 8, at 2 p.m., in the chapel of Vaughn Funeral Home with Rev. Randall Dye and Rev. David Phipps officiating. Burial will be in Stebbins Cemetery in Grandview. Vaughn Funeral Home in Spring City is in charge of the arrangements.
James Thomas Cox
Died: 09/17/1998
James Thomas Cox, 73, of Salt Lake City, Utah, died there Thursday, Sept. 17, 1998, at Hospice of Northwest, Ohio.
Born here in Evensville, Mr. Cox was a World War II veteran serving in the U.S. Army. After his military service he was an employee of Rossford Ordnance and in 1962 relocated to Salt Lake City where he continued to work for the U.S. government as a warehouser until his retirement in 1974. At the time of his passing, he was member of the West congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses with whom he served for over 20 years.
He is survived by sons, Jerry E. Cox, Garry L. Cox; daughter, Benita L. Ross; the children’s mother, Ellaruth Cox; sister, Mary Brown of Dayton; seven grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Monday, Sept. 21, 1998, at the West Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Salt Lake City. Interment will follow the services in Forest Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday, Sept. 20, 1998, from 4 to 6 p.m. mountain time. Dale Funeral Home Chapel in Salt Lake City is in charge of arrangements.
Idella Coulter Cunnyngham

Idella Coulter Cunnyngham, 92, of Dayton, died at her home Thursday, Sept. 17, 1998. She was preceded in by her husband, Carl Cunnyngham, and son, Charles W. (Spunk) Cunnyngham.
Survivors include four sons, Rev. J.E. Cunnyngham, John Cunnyngham, Tom Cunnyngham and Bob Cunnyngham, all of Dayton; two daughters, Ruth Dillard and Glenda Brock, both of Dayton; two sisters, Frances Creek and Alma Kyle, both of Dayton; 11 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 19, 1998, in the chapel of Coulter Garrison Funeral Home with Revs. D.H. Swafford and Billy Bewley officiating. Robert (Bob) Stinnett

Robert (Bob) Stinnett, of Dayton, died Thursday, Aug. 5, 1999, at Rhea Medical Center. He was 72.
Mr. Stinnett was a member of Pleasant Dale Baptist Church in Evensville. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie and Pearl Stinnett; brothers, William and Jack Stinnett; and sister, Clara Bell Stinnett.
Survivors include his wife, Patsy Stinnett of Dayton; son, Robert Stinnett of Evensville; sisters, Helen England of Evensville, Judy Pritchett of High Point, Tenn., and Kathleen McBay of Spring City; brothers, Jimmy Stinnett of Evensville, and Elmer Stinnett of Dayton; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Flora Headlee

Flora Headlee, 93, of Dayton, died Tuesday, Sept. 15, 1998, at Rhea Medical Center.
She was the daughter of the late Henry Brown and Delilah Laymon Brown. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Headlee, and son, W.M. Headlee.
Survivors include three daughters, Pauline Smith of Pikeville, Edna Estep of Dayton and Barbara Rothwell of Pikeville; and son, Jim Headlee of Dayton. Funeral services were held 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 17, 1998, in the chapel of Coulter Garrison Funeral Home with Rev. Jimmy Jewell officiating. Curtis Leo Johnson, 63, of Soddy-Daisy, died Thursday, Sept. 17, 1998, at Erlanger Medical Center in Chattanooga.
Survivors include two daughters, Cindy Johnson of Lafayette, Ga., and Janet Woodruff of Atlanta, Ga.; brother, Tony Johnson of Atlanta, Ga.; and two grandchildren.

Jesse Henry Sullivan

Jesse Henry Sullivan, 72, of Bledsoe County near Graysville, died Tuesday, Sept. 15, 1998, at Rhea Medical Center.
He was the son of Thomas Henry Sullivan and Nellie Margaret (Rice) Sullivan.
Born Jan. 31, 1926, in Bledsoe County, he lived in Bledsoe County most of his life where he worked as a farmer. He was trustee at New Harmony Freewill Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Willie Mae Sullivan of Bledsoe County; mother, Nellie Sullivan of Dayton; three sons, Jesse O. Sullivan of Dayton, Arnold T. Sullivan of Evensville and Oscar C. Sullivan of Marion County; daughter, Katherine A. Sullivan of Bledsoe County; two brothers, James Sullivan of Bledsoe County and Fred Sullivan of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; three sisters, Margaret Ritchey of Bledsoe County, Mary Revis of Dayton and Martha Musgrave of Soddy-Daisy; 14 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 16, 1998, in the chapel of Vanderwall Funeral Home in Dayton. Interment followed the services in Brayton Cemetery in Bledsoe County. Vanderwall Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Mary Sue Couch

Mary Sue Couch, of Dayton, died Saturday, Aug. 7, 1999, at Rhea Medical Center. She was 56.
Mrs. Couch was preceded in death by her husband, Gordon Couch.
Survivors include her daughters, Sheila Hicks and Janice Wilson, both of Decatur, and Brenda Goins of Alabama; sons, John Rogers and Lamar Howard, both of Cleveland, Robert Rogers of Pikeville, Kenneth Howard of Cleveland, and Timon Couch of Dayton; mother, Dorothy Rogers of Birchwood; and 14 grandchildren.
