Lois Jean McGann, of Crossville, Tenn., died Wednesday, Dec. 20, 2000, at St. Thomas Hospital. She was 64.
Born April 10, 1936, in Dayton, Mrs. McGann was a homemaker and a member of Homesteads Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her father, Franklin A. Reed; and brothers, Franklin Mack Reed and Melvin Lee Rumer.
Survivors include her daughters, Sandra Prather and Diane Jones, both of Murfreesboro, Tenn., and Becky McGann of Crossville, Tenn.; son, Phil McGann of Smyrna, Tenn.; mother, Beulah Mae Rumer of Dayton; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and brother, Charles D. Reed of Grainger, Ind.
Funeral services were conducted Dec. 23 in the chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home in Crossville with Dr. Dan D. Haskins Jr. officiating. Mitchell Smith provided special music. Burial followed in Green Acres Memory Gardens.
Pallbearers were Joshua and Joseph Barnwell, Eric and Jim Jones, Brad Schenk, Jason Cline and John Lawson. Bilbrey Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
James Charles Cook
Died: 12/26/2000
James Charles Cook, of Dayton, died Tuesday, Dec. 26, 2000, at Erlanger Medical Center in Chattanooga. He was 43.
Born Feb. 24, 1957, in Battle Creek, Mich., Mr. Cook lived in Dayton since 1999 and previously in Battle Creek, Mich. He was a mechanic by trade.
Survivors include his daughters, Melissa, Heather and Cindy Cook, all of Battle Creek, Mich.; sons, Christopher Cook of Corpus Christi, Texas, and Benjamin Cook of Battle Creek, Mich.; grandson, Tyler Moyer of Calhoun, Ga.; father, James Earl Cook of Dayton; and mother, Nancy Butcher Cook of Battle Creek, Mich.
A memorial service was conducted Tuesday at New Life Friends Church in Battle Creek, Mich. Vanderwall Funeral Home in Dayton was in charge of the arrangements.
W.E. (Dub) Williams
Died: 12/29/2000
W.E. (Dub) Williams, of Dayton, died Friday, Dec. 29, 2000, at a Decatur nursing home. He was 81.
A BellSouth retiree and a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America and Communications Workers of America, Mr. Williams was a member of American Legion Brady-Willliams Post 100. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps in Africa and Italy during World War II and was an avid fisherman.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Merle Grimsley Williams; and parents, James A. and Mattie Burwick Williams.
Survivors include his daughters, Jerrie Collins of Graysville, and Helen Voigt of Knoxville; sons, Bill Williams of Dayton, and David Paul Williams of Seattle, Wa.; sisters, Ethel Brumley, Virgie Bishop and Evelyn Eakins, all of Dayton, Altheia Green of Cleveland, Tenn., Lorena Stewart of Battle Creek, Mich., and Betty Williams of Graysville; and brother, Ancil Williams of Dayton.
Funeral services were conducted Sunday in the chapel of Vanderwall Funeral Home with Sister Opal Scott officiating. Burial followed in Rhea Memory Gardens in Dayton. Vanderwall Funeral Home in Dayton was in charge of the arrangements.
Iva Lou Lenear

Iva Lou Lenear, of Olney, Ill., died Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2001, at her daughter’s residence. She was 73.
Born Sept. 5, 1927, in West Salem, Ill., Mrs. Lenear was a retired cook at Olney Care Center and a member of Pleasant Ridge Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Virgil O. Lenear; parents, Grover and Pearl (Schonert) Knakmuhs; and brother, Raymond Knakmuhs.
Survivors include her sons, Dale and David Lenear, both of Olney, Charles Lenear of Dublin, Ga., and Jim Lenear of Olney; daughters, Carolyn Haerr of Spring City, and June Roberson of Noble, Ill.; sister, Ruth Diekman of Hopkins, Minn.; brother, Conrad Knakmuhs of Pittsburg, Ill; 12 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted Friday at Summers-Kistler Funeral Home in Olney, with Rev. Jerry Cowman officiating. Burial followed in Hanna Cemetery in Noble, Ill.
Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Southeastern Illinois or Spring City United Methodist Church. Summers-Kistler Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Elizabeth (Betty) Bean

Elizabeth (Betty) Bean, of Graysville, died Friday, Jan. 5, 2001, at Rhea County Nursing Home. She was 87.
Born June 10, 1913, in Dayton, Mrs. Bean formerly lived in Chattanooga.
She retired from Buster Brown in Chattanooga after 25 years of service and was a member of Edgewood Baptist Church in Chattanooga and attended Graysville United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Gaines Tallent, Bruce Pierce and Clifford Bean; and parents, James and Mattie (Hale) Holland.
Survivors include her sons, Tom (T.C.) Tallent and James W. Pierce, both of Chattanooga, Wallace Tallent of Lansing, Mich., and Paul Tallent of Graysville; brother, Walter Holland of Oklahoma; sisters, Tina Thompson and Marjorie Powers, both of Chattanooga, and Belle Gothard of Graysville; 18 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted Monday in the chapel of Vanderwall Funeral Home with Revs. Champ Agan and Clyde Fitzgerald officiating. Burial followed in Buttram Cemetery in Dayton. Vanderwall Funeral Home in Dayton was in charge of the arrangements.
Gertrude Emma Day

Gertrude Emma Day, of Dayton, died Saturday, Jan. 6, 2001, at Rhea Medical Center in Dayton. She was 88.
A member of New Union Baptist Church, Ms. Day retired from Kayser-Roth Hosiery Company in Dayton.
Survivors include her daughter, Charlotte Stewart of Cleveland, Tenn.; sisters, Annie Bishop and Bessie Mulkey, both of Dayton, and Mary Etta Roddy of Battle Creek, Mich.; brother, Claude Sharp of Hixson; two grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were conducted Monday at New Union Baptist Church in Dayton with Revs. Felix Harris and Hoyt Hartman and Dr. Danny Ruehling officiating. Burial followed in Spence Cemetery in Dayton. Coulter-Garrison Funeral Home in Dayton was in charge of the arrangements.
Chloe Taylor Dodds

Chloe Taylor Dodds, of Lebanon, Tenn., died Monday, Jan. 1, 2001, at Mariner Health Care in Lebanon. She was 85.
Born Aug. 30, 1915, in Wynne, Ark., Mrs. Dodds was a homemaker and a former resident of Spring City where she was a member of First Presbyterian Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Nelson Dodds; and parents, George Henry and Sirene Adeline England Taylor.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Rita Dodds of Lebanon; grandchildren, Charlotte Dodds of West Hollywood, Calif., and Jessica Dodds of Lebanon; and great-granddaughter, Savannah Elaine Shelby of Lebanon.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 1 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church in Spring City. Ligon & Bobo Funeral Home in Lebanon is in charge of the arrangements.
Fred T. Hayes
Died: 01/07/2001
Fred T. Hayes, of Dunlap, Tenn., died Sunday, Jan. 7, 2001. He was 69.
Mr. Hayes lived in Panama City, Fla., for many years until moving to Dayton, where he lived until moving to Dunlap in 1997. He attended Parkway Baptist Church in Panama City, Corvin Road Baptist Church in Dayton and East Valley Baptist Church in Dunlap.
A veteran of the U.S. Army, Mr. Hayes was a professional cook by trade.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Josephine (Josie) Willoughby Hayes.
Survivors include his sons, Jeffrey Hayes of Morongo Valley, Calif., Monty and Jimmy Hayes, both of Crystal Lake, Fla., Brent Hayes of Algonquin, Ill., and Clark Hayes of Panama City, Fla.; step-sons, William and Jay Brown, both of Panama City; seven grandchildren; and sisters, Jane Smith of Jamestown, Tenn., and Virgie Delk and Lydia Allred, both of Nashville, Tenn.
Funeral services will be conducted today at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Vanderwall Funeral Home with Dr. Mike Crain, Revs. Leon Bowman and Ken Fugate and Mr. Don Mingo officiating. Burial will follow in Rhea Memory Gardens in Dayton. Vanderwall Funeral Home in Dayton is in charge of the arrangements.
Doris Brackett Pickett

Doris Brackett Pickett, of Sale Creek, died Thursday, Jan. 4, 2001, at an area hospital. She was 87.
Mrs. Pickett was a member of Mount Vernon Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Chester and Ida Brackett; and brother, John Brackett.
Survivors include her husband, Richard Pickett of Sale Creek; daughters, Deborah Pickett and Martha Cunnyngham, both of Sale Creek; sister, Lyda Smith of Sale Creek; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were conducted Sunday at Williamson and Sons Funeral Home in Soddy-Daisy with Rev. Clankston Freeman officiating and Revs. Emory Layne and J.D. Carnes assisting. Burial followed in New Providence Cemetery.
