Fred J. Trew

Fred J. Trew, of Spring City, died Friday Aug. 6, 1999, at Roane Medical Center in Harriman. He was 77.
A lifelong resident of Rhea County, Mr. Trew was the son of the late Wallace and Eliza Arnold True. He retired from Tennessee Valley Authority as a unit operator after 37 years of employment. Mr. Trew was a member of the Spring City United Methodist Church, a charter member of the Rhea County Rescue Squad and a member of the Rhea Rural Fair Association. A veteran of World War II, he served in the U.S. Army.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Irene (Jean) Trew; brothers, Alfred, John, Herbert and Henry True; and sisters, Jeannie Lee Cunningham and Elsie Waldo.
Survivors include his daughters, Ardoth Martin and Judith Barger, both of Spring City; brother, Earl True of Grafton, Ohio; sisters, Caroline Worcester of Spring City, and Anna Mae Jewett of LaGrange, Ohio; four grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were conducted Monday, Aug. 9, in the chapel of Vaughn Funeral Home with Rev. Don Allison officiating. Interment was in Spring Ctiy Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be made to the Rhea County Rescue Squad. Vaughn Funeral Home in Spring City was in charge of the arrangements.
Jacqueline "Angeline" Baker

Jacqueline “Angeline” Baker, of Spring City, died Tuesday, Dec. 8, 1998, at South Fulton Hospital in Atlanta. She was 62.
Born in Grandview, she moved to Spring City five years ago from Atlanta, Ga. She was a self-employed seamstress and enjoyed crocheting as a hobby. She was of the Protestant Faith and was preceded in death by her father, Rainey Reed.
Survivors include her mother, Anna Mae Reed of Spring City; two daughters, Patricia Forrest of Dayton and Janice Loden of Bainbridge, Ga.; son, James Loden of Spring City; two brothers, William Reed of Spring City and Rainey Reed Jr. of Moultrie, Ga.; two sisters, Linda Cox of Dayton and Lucille Hollingsworth of Calhoun, Ga.; five grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were conducted 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 12, 1998, in the chapel of Vaughn Funeral Home with Rev. Lawrence Waller officiating. Interment followed the services in Spring City Memorial Gardens. Vaughn Funeral Home in Spring City was in charge of arrangements.
Taylor Nicole Dawn Pendergrass

Taylor Nicole Dawn Pendergrass, of Pikeville, Tenn., died Thursday, Dec. 3, 1998, at Bledsoe County Hospital. She was six months old.
She is survived by her maternal grandparents, Jaynean Hale Guinn and Stanley Guinn, Melvin and Debbie Rigsby; paternal grandparents, Sharon Pendergrass and Freddy Pendergrass; maternal great-grandparents, Jaynese Hale and Bill and JoAnne Rigsby; paternal great-grandmothers, Clayta White and Edith Pendergrass, all of Pikeville, Tenn.
Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 5, 1998, in the chapel of Putnam-Reed Funeral Home with Keith Buckner officiating. Putnam-Reed Funeral Home in Pikeville, Tenn., is in charge of arrangements.
Randall Keith

Randall Keith (R.K.) Bradley Sr., of Rogersville, Tenn., died Tuesday, Dec. 1, 1998, at Holston Valley Hospital following a heart attack.
A lifelong resident of Hawkins County, Mr. Bradley was retired from Holston Defense. He was preceded in death by his father, Earl Bradley in 1973 and a sister, Sylvia McMurrary.
Survivors include Mr. Bradley’s wife of 50 years, Irene Arnold Bradley of Rogersville; two sons, Randy Bradley of Rogersville, Tenn., and Greg Bradley and wife, Julia, of Kingsport, Tenn.; mother, Lula Bradley of Rogersville, Tenn.; two brothers, J.D. Bradley and wife, Opal, of Surgionsville, Tenn., and Barney Bradley of Church Hill, Tenn.; four sisters, Frances and E.D. Hughes of Rockford, Ill., Phyllis and Joe Eddington of Knoxville, Jean Bradley White of Rogersville, Polly and husband of Kentucky; and three grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were conducted 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 4, 1998, in the chapel of Colboch-Price Funeral Home in Rogersville, Tenn., with Rev. Glen Scruggs and Rev. Glen Bradley officiating. Graveside services will be conducted 2 p.m. Saturday in Highland Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Barney, Randy, Greg and Josh Bradley, Chad and Keith Collins. Doyle W. Worthington

Doyle W. Worthington, of Springfield, Mich., died Friday, Nov. 27, 1998, in Battle Creek (Mich.) Health System. He was 76.
Born in Evensville Feb. 23, 1922, Mr. Worthington was the son of the late Grover and Maggie Gunter Worthington. He moved to Battle Creek, Mich., from Tennessee in 1940. He served as private first class in the U.S. Army’s 86th Infantry Division from Dec. 14, 1943, to April 17, 1946. He took part in battles in Central Europe, the Asiatic-Pacific Theater and European-African-Middle Eastern Theater. He was employed as a truck driver by Michigan Carton Co. for 43 years, retiring at age 62 in 1984. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Sheryl E. Worthington.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Virginia R. Jordan of Springfield, Mich.; daughters, Joby Ray of Springfield, Mich., and Linda S. Yeric of Ceresco, Mich.; brother, Bruce Worthington of Evensville, Tenn.; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted 10:30 a.m. Monday, Nov. 30, 1998, in the chapel of Richard A. Henry Funeral Home with Rev. Morris E Anderson officiating. Danny Lee Iles, of Graysville, died Saturday, Dec. 5, 1998. He was 26.
Survivors include his father, Raymond A. Iles of Dayton; Step-mother, Judy M. Iles of Dayton; two brothers, Delmer Iles and Raymond C. Iles; one step-brother, Harold Gene Douglas Jr. of Dayton; one step-sister, Kathy Landahl; grandparents, Olita Dowden, Mildred Cox of Dayton; and several aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews.

Martha Aslinger

Martha Aslinger died Monday, Dec. 7, 1998, at a local nursing home. She was 88.
A retired Hamilton County school teacher, Aslinger was a member of Dayton First Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by one sister, Annabel Aslinger; and two brothers, John Aslinger and E. N. (Elmer) Aslinger.
Survivors include two sisters-in-law, Neita Aslinger of Spring City and Iva Aslinger of Knoxville; two nieces, Betty Miller and Frances Harbin, both of Knoxville; three nephews, William C. Aslinger, Bobby J. Aslinger, both of Knoxville, and Rodney Aslinger of Chattanooga.

Audrey N. Denton

Audrey N. Denton, of Dayton, died Tuesday, Dec. 1, 1998, in a local hospital. She was 93.
A lifelong resident of Rhea County, Mrs. Denton was a very active member of Dayton First Baptist Church and a member of the Postal Retirees Association. She was also a charter member of the Rhea County Historical Society. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ola Denton, three sisters and two brothers.
Survivors include her son, Guy Denton of Dayton; four grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were conducted Friday, Dec. 4, 1998, in the chapel of Coulter Garrison Funeral Home with Revs. J.B. Morris and Milton Knox officiating. Interment followed the services in Pierce Cemetery. Coulter Garrison Funeral Home in Dayton was in charge of arrangements.
Mildred L. Barley

Mildred L. Barley, of Pennfield Township, Mich., died Wednesday, Nov. 25, 1998, at Battle Creek (Mich.) Health System. She was 65.
Born April 10, 1933 in Dayton, she was the daughter of the late John O. and Jessie Mae (Lane) Thurman. She was employed for 38 years as a production line worker at Post Cereals in Battle Creek, Mich., until her retirement in 1995. She was a member of the Eagle Aerie #299, Post 25 Year Club and served on the board of the American Lung Association and worked for St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital fund drives. She was preceded in death her second husband, Robert Barley Jr.; first husband, Paul R. Coulter, Sr.; son, Paul R. Coulter Jr.; and brother, James H. Thurman. Survivors include her daughters, Connie A. Hopson, Robbie L. Tate, Robin L. Burbank, Jessica E. Barley and Paula Burdette, all of Battle Creek, Tammy L. Grinnell of LaGrange, Ind.; 11 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
A local memorial service is scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 3, 1998, at Vine Grove Methodist Church in Morgantown. Michigan funeral services were conducted Saturday Nov. 28, 1998, at Shaw Funeral Home in Battle Creek, Mich. The family asks that memorial contributions be made to the American Lung Association or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital. Shaw Funeral Home in Battle Creek, Mich., was in charge of arrangements.
James Estes Tinch

James Estes Tinch, of Bakewell, died Wednesday, Dec. 9, 1998, at Northpark Hospital in Chattanooga. He was 61.
Born June 11, 1937, Mr. Tinch lived in Bakewell for the past three years, previously a resident Rockwood, Tenn. He was the son of Dallas Lee Tinch and Ruby (Sisco) Tinch. He worked as a residential landscaper and enjoyed woodworking. He was of the Church of God Faith.
Survivors include his wife, Betty (Jones) Tinch of Harriman; son, James D. Tinch of Bakewell; daughters, Barbara Scott of Rockwood; two brothers, Shelby Tinch of Bakewell and Beecher Tinch of Rockwood; sister, Anna Roysdon of Bakewell; and three grandchildren.

Carolyn Mary Wooten, of Dayton, died Thursday, Dec. 10, 1998, in a local nursing home. She was 56. She was preceded in death by her mother, Frances Knowles.
Survivors include two sons, Thomas Andrew and Julia Doss of Evensville and Stacy Lamar and Deana Doss of Dayton; two daughters, Barbara Doss and Greg Early of Kingston and Lena Lynn and Scotty Ray of Grandview; four granddaughters and two grandsons.

Cheyenne Katherine-Lynn Rice

Cheyenne Katherine-Lynn Rice, an infant of Dayton, died Dec. 21, 1998, at East Tennessee Childrens’ Hospital in Knoxville. She was two months old.
She was born in East Ridge, Tenn., Sept. 15, 1998, to her parents, Timothy Mark Rice and Jennifer Nichole (Carter) Rice. She lived in Dayton all her life.
Survivors include her Dad and Mom, Tim and Nichole Rice of Dayton; grandparents, Walter H. “Dub” Rice of Dayton, Carol Rupart of Kentucky, and Larry and Vickey Carter of Dayton; and great-grandparents, Estee Arnold and Mamie Rice, both of Dayton.
