Charles Malcolm Ballard, age 84, of Springfield, Virginia, died Wednesday, May 28, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. Mr. Ballard was a native of Bozo, West Virginia and was a son of the late Grant William and Eliza Bonham Ballard. He served in the United States Marines during World War II and was a retired bus driver for Greyhound Bus Lines. Mr. Ballard was preceded in death by his wife, Rose Lanteni Ballard, who died in 2001. He is survived by three daughters, Rosanne Lunceford of Annandale, Virginia, Lou Harris of Lewisburg and Rinda Hoagland of New Smyrna Beach, Florida; four sons, Wythe Brown, Sonny Ballard and Kevin Ballard, all of Virginia, and Kent Ballard of California; a brother, Hugh Ballard of Virginia; twelve grandchildren and several great grandchildren. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 3, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Everly-Wheatley Funeral Home in Alexandria, Virginia. Masonic services will also be conducted at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday evening. Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, June 4, at 11:00 a.m. from the Chapel of Everly-Wheatley Funeral Home with burial in Mount Comfort Cemetery.

Infant Constance Marie Braden, died Thursday, May 29, at Williamson Medical Center in Franklin. Graveside services were held on Saturday, May 30, at 11:00 a.m. at the Gibsonville Cemetery. Survivors include the parents, Scott and Brandy Braden of Lewisburg and two sisters, Alana Braden and Daisy Braden, both of Lewisburg. Carr & Erwin Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Nancy Irene Mathews

Mrs. Nancy Irene Mathews, age 74, of Lewisburg, died Monday, June 2, at her home. Mrs. Mathews was a native of Lincoln County and daughter of the late Gladyes and Charlotte Metcalf Edde. She was the widow of John E. Mathews, who died in 1989, a homemaker, mother and member of the Farmington Church of Christ. She is survived by one son, Sherman Norwood of Manchester; three daughters, Ann Norwood, Tonya Stinnett and Angie Wickberg, all of Lewisburg; two sisters, Ruth Harrell and Mary Hollingsworth, both of Lewisburg; three brothers, Roy Edde of Lewisburg, Robert Edde and William Edde, both of Pulaski; ten grandchildren and four great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one granddaughter. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, June 4, at 1:00 p.m. from the Chapel of London Funeral Home with Benny Burns officiating. Burial will follow in Lone Oak Cemetery. The family will be at London Funeral Home on Tuesday, June 3, from 1:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Wednesday after 11:00 a.m. for visitation.

John Christopher (JC) McCall, age 74, of Thompson Station, died Wednesday evening, May 28, at Williamson Medical Center in Franklin. Mr. McCall was a native of Williamson County and a son of the late Jim and Nannie Graham McCall. He was retired from Lasko Metal Products and a member of Lawrence Grove Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Lottie Mae McCall of Thompson Station; a daughter, Sheila Brown of Columbia; two sons, John McCall of Fairview and Darrell McCall of Bon Aqua; three brothers, Robert McCall of Frankewing, Jack McCall of Eagleville and Joe McCall of Chapel Hill; one sister, Geneva Ann Bolton of Mapleton, Georgia and two grandchildren. Visitation with the family began at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, May 30, at Lawrence Funeral Home in Chapel Hill. Funeral services were conducted on Saturday, May 31, at 10:00 a.m. from the Chapel of Lawrence funeral Home with Argine Hughes and Ronnie Thomas officiating. Burial will be in Swanson Cemetery in Chapel Hill.

Ms. Peggy Harris Spence

Ms. Peggy Harris Spence, age 68 of Columbia, died Friday, May 30, at her home. Ms. Spence was a native of Marshall County and daughter of the late John Clifford Harris and Mrs. Selma Carpenter Harris of Lewisburg, who survives. She was a homemaker and member of the Church of Christ. In addition to her mother, she is survived by two daughters, Brenda Norris and Deborah Delk, both of Columbia; one brother, Gary Harris of Lewisburg and six grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted on Sunday, June 1, at 2:00 p.m. from the Chapel of London Funeral Home with Jason Hart officiating. Burial followed in Lone Oak Cemetery. The family was at London Funeral Home after 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 31, and Sunday, until the funeral hour for visitation. Pallbearers were Heath Richardson, Wayne Spence, Larry Barnhardt, Ross Delk, Freddie Stewmon and Lanee Barnhardt.

Glenn R. Terryah of Groveland Twp, Michigan, age 69, died Saturday, May 31. Mr. Terryah retired from Consumers Power in 1988 after 37 years of service and Cosmolab in Lewisburg in 2000. He is survived by his wife of fifty years, Pat Terryah; a daughter, Barbara Terryah of Lewisburg; three sons, Glenn Terryah, of Lewisburg and Richard and Jim Terryah of Michigan; a sister, Lucy Baird and one brother, Bob Terryah, seventeen grandchildren and three great grandchildren. His body will lie-in-state at the Sherman Wilk Funeral Home, 135 South Street, Ortonville, Michigan on Tuesday, June 3, from 1:00 to 9:00 p.m. No funeral services or committal will be held.

Mrs. Alta Sommers Troyer, age 93, of Cornersville, died Sunday, June 1, following an auto accident. Mrs. Troyer was a native of Myersville, Ohio and daughter of the late John B. and Catherine Hostetler Sommers. She was a homemaker and member of the Marshall County Mennonite Brotherhood Church. She is survived by five daughters, Kathryn Garber of Mt. Perry, Ohio, Clara Martin of Switz City, Indiana, Mary Schrock of Eldorado Springs, Missouri, Sylvia Troyer and Betty Yoder, both of Somerset, Ohio; three sons, Vernon Troyer of Moulton, Iowa, Menno Troyer of Big Fork, Montana and Nelson Troyer of Olive Hill; fifty-six grandchildren and eighty great grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted by Seth Sommers Wednesday, June 4, at 9:30 a.m. from the Marshall County Mennonite Brotherhood Church. Services will be held Thursday, June 5, at 2:00 p.m. in Walnut Grove Amish Mennonite Church with interment in Walnut Grove Cemetery in Uniontown, Ohio. London Funeral Home assisting with arrangements.

Miss Lillian Troyer, age 58 of Cornersville, died Sunday, June 1, following an auto accident. Miss Troyer was a native of Hartville, Ohio and daughter of the late Emanuel and Alta Sommers Troyer. She was a homemaker and member of the Marshall County Mennonite Brotherhood Church. She is survived by five sisters, Kathryn Garber of Mt. Perry, Ohio, Clara Martin of Switz City, Indiana, Mary Schrock of Eldorado Springs, Missouri, Sylvia Troyer and Betty Yoder, both of Somerset, Ohio; three brothers, Vernon Troyer of Moulton, Iowa, Menno Troyer of Big Fork, Montana and Nelson Troyer of Olive Hill. William Parker "Bill" Orr, Jr.

William Parker "Bill" Orr, Jr., age 54, former nineteen year veteran of the Columbia Police Department, died Wednesday, May 28, at his residence on Forrest Street in Lewisburg. Funeral services were conducted at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 31, at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home in Columbia, with Rev. Darryl Martin officiating. Burial followed in Polk Memorial Gardens with military honors provided by Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19. The family visited with friends on Friday, May 30, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Notes of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.oakesandnichols.com. The Maury County native was the son of Mary Josephine Simmons Orr of Columbia, who survives, and the late William Parker Orr, Sr. He was a 1966 graduate of Columbia Central High School and served twelve years in the United States Air Force. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police, Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19, and the VFW. In addition to his mother he is survived by his wife, Marlene Atwood Orr of Lewisburg; four sons, Brian Spivey of Franklin, Will Orr of Lewisburg, Marty Moore of Sumter, South Carolina, Monty Moore of Deridder, Louisiana; one daughter, Celene Lightsey of Sumter, South Carolina; four brothers, Doug Orr of Nashville, Ronnie Orr and Dennis Orr, both of Columbia and Steve Orr of Lewisburg; nine grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be officers from the Columbia Police Department. Honorary pallbearers will be Columbia Police Department officers and members of Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19.

Mrs. Sara Jane Whitfield, age 58, of Eagleville, died Friday, May 30, at her residence following an extended illness. Mrs. Whitfield was a native of Beckley, West Virginia and a daughter of the late Creed and Lynda Cook Bryant. She was an office manager for K-Mart in Franklin for 25 years. She is survived by her husband, Worley Whitfield of Eagleville; a daughter, Mrs. Sherrie Rives of Rockvale, a son, James Gearhart of Murfreesboro; two sisters, Mrs. Mary Basham of Mabscott, West Virginia and Mrs. Betty Lilly of Salem, Virginia; three brothers, Billy Bryant, Lucky Bryant and Gene Bryant, all of Salem, Virginia and six grandchildren. Visitation began at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 31, at Lawrence Funeral Home in Chapel Hill. Graveside services were conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 1, at the Rocky Glade Cemetery in Rutherford County with Bro. Steve Austin and Bro. Tony Long officiating.

Alfred "Deacon" Childers, age 78, of Lewisburg, died Thursday night, June 12, at NHC Merihil. Mr. Childers was a native of Giles County and the son of the late William Thomas and Alice Elizabeth Compton Childers, retired from ICP and a member of Church Street Church of Christ. He is survived by his wife, Sue Chunn Childers of Lewisburg, one daughter, Kim Anderson of Lewisburg; one son, Keith Childers of Cornersville; one sister, Betty Cothan of Waverly; one brother, Bobby Childers of Shelbyville; and three grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted on Saturday, June 14, at 2:00 p.m. from the Chapel of London Funeral Home with Charles Williamson officiating. Burial followed in Lone Oak Cemetery in Lewisburg. The family was at the funeral home for visitation after 3:00 p.m. on Friday, June 13, and until the funeral hour on Saturday, June 14. Pallbearers were Wayne Jean, Mark Mangrum, Tim Chunn, Barry Childers, Billy Chunn and John Bradley.

Modesto "Joe" Gomez

Modesto "Joe" Gomez, age 56, of Chapel Hill, died Friday, June 13, at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville from injuries sustained in a work related accident. Mr. Gomez was a native of Mexico and a son of the late Ramon and Santos Diaz Gomez and was a shop laborer for Gibbs Brothers Construction Company of Nashville. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Lee Gomez; a daughter, Christy Gomez; three sons, Randy Lee and Robert Lee Gomez, all of Chapel Hill and Mitchell Gomez of Spring Hill; a sister, Mrs. Elsa Gonzalez; four brothers, Julio, Hilario and Lupe Gomez, all of Florida and Pedro Gomez of Idaho and eight grandchildren. Visitation was held on Monday, June 16 at Lawrence Funeral Home of Chapel Hill from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. Funeral services were conducted at 12:00 Noon on Tuesday, June 17 at New Vision Outreach Church, 4506 Nashville Highway, Chapel Hill. There was visitation at the church one hour prior to services on Tuesday, June 17.

Mrs. Alma Keith Turner Hester

Mrs. Alma Keith Turner Hester, age 84, of Shelbyville, died Friday, June 13, at Bedford County Nursing Home. She was a native of Bedford County, a retired employee of American Can Company and a member of Northfork Baptist Church. She was the daughter of the late William Robert and Lottie Mae Bellenfant Turner and the wife of the late John Thomas Hester, Jr., who died in 1989. She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Linda Hasty of Shelbyville and Mrs. Ann Patterson of Chapel Hill; three grandchildren; two step-grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 15th, at Hillcrest Funeral Home with Rev. Charles Brown, Rev. Bobby McGee and Rev. Mike Williams officiating. Burial followed at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be made to the Building Funds of Edgemont Baptist Church and Northfork Baptist Church.

Mrs. Mae D. Lyttle of Lewisburg, died Monday, June 9, at Marshall Medical Center in Lewisburg. She was the daughter of the late Walter and Leslie Hurt. She is survived by her husband, William "Bill" Lyttle of Lewisburg; one son, Robert Lee Hurt of Minot, North Dakota; a sister, Cecil Bennett of Lewisburg, five grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Visitation with the family was held at the J. B. Mayberry and Son Chapel on Park Avenue on Friday, June 13th from 12:00 noon to 8:00 p.m. and Saturday, June 14th from 12:00 noon to 1:00 p.m. at Cook’s Memorial. Gravesite services followed at 1:00 p.m.

She was a native of Marshall County and the daughter of Clyde Jack and Patsy Wheatley Liggett and a member of the Baptist Church. She is survived by her husband, Don MacDermid of Lynnville, her father and mother, Clyde Jack and Patsy Liggett of Lewisburg; a step-son, Michael MacDermid of Georgia; a step-daughter, Anita Dent of Tampa, Florida; a brother, Glenn Liggett; a sister, Nancy Taylor; a maternal grandmother, Mrs. Ruby Morton, all of Lewisburg, and one step-granddaughter. Funeral services were conducted on Tuesday, June 17, at 1:00 p.m. from the Chapel of London Funeral Home in Lewisburg, with Claude McMillion officiating. Burial followed in Lone Oak Cemetery. The family was at London Funeral Home for visitation after 3:00 p.m. on Monday, June 16. Pallbearers were Mike MacDermid, David Liggett, John MacDermid, Mark Baker, Tom Goff and Brian Hobbs.

Mrs. McLean was a native of Marshall County, the daughter of William and Dona Callahan McCrory, the widow of the late Douglas McLean and a member of the Methodist Church. She is survived by a son, Gene McLean of Waterford, Michigan; a daughter, Nell Weaver of Friday Harber, Washington; four grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren, three step-grandchildren and twelve step-great grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, June 18, at 10:00 a.m. from the Chapel of London Funeral Home with Rush Severance officiating. Burial will follow in Lone Oak Cemetery. The family will be at London Funeral Home in Lewisburg for visitation on Tuesday, June 17, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Pallbearers will be Bob McCullough, Mike Deniham, Kenneth McLean, Bobby McLean, J. Roy Roney, age 83, of Murfreesboro, died Saturday, June 14. He was a member of the Assembly of God Church of Murfreesboro. He is survived by his wife, Marion Roney of Murfreesboro; four sons, Richard Roney and Donald Roney, both of Murfreesboro, Ed Roney of Lewisburg and Vincent Roney of Hermitage; four daughters, Patricia Davenport and Elaine Jackson, both of Mt. Juliet, Janis Walrond of Hermitage and Maryann Roney of Murfreesboro; two sisters, Lola Mae Wild of Nashville and Virginia Proffitt of California; fourteen grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 17, at Bond Memorial Chapel, 1098 Weston Drive, Mt. Juliet, TN 37122. Interment followed at Mt. Juliet Memorial Gardens. Active pallbearers were Daniel Thomason, Kelly Roney, Caleb Roney, Mark Maynard, Brad Haskin, John Davenport, Steve Jackson and Nathan Roney. Visitation with the family was held from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 15 and Monday, June 16, at the Bond Memorial Chapel, N. Mt. Juliet Rd. and Weston Drive, Mt. Juliet.

Sean Dewene Whaley, age 35 of Lewisburg, died Friday, June 13, in Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville. Born in Winchester, Sean was raised in Lewisburg and was the son of Buddy and Wanda Oliver Whaley. He graduated from Marshall County High School in 1985. Sean loved sports: football, baseball, and NASCAR, and was a member of the 1984 State Football Championship team. More than sports, though, his family spoke of how much he loved his children. Professionally, he was a certified technician in electrical and HVAC. At age 5, Sean accepted the Lord as his Savior, and was affiliated with Parkview Baptist Church while growing up. Presently, he was a member of the First Baptist Church of Lewisburg. Sean is survived by his wife, Jennifer Chambers Whaley; four children: Jack Whaley, Austyn Whaley, Walker Sean Whaley, and Parker Bryson Whaley, and parents, Buddy and Wanda Whaley, all of Lewisburg; two sisters, Shari W. Sharp of Lewisburg, and Shona W. Norman of Shelbyville and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were conducted Monday, June 16 at 1:00 p.m. from the Chapel of Bills McGaugh Funeral Home, officiated by Rev. Tom Dumser and Darrell Whaley. Interment followed in Middleview Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers were Mark Ventura, Terry Gentry, Frank Sharp, Bill Branaman, Brent Perryman, and Marshall Miller. Honorary pallbearers were members of the 1984 State Football Championship team of Marshall County High School. Herman L. White, age 70, died Friday, June 13, and his wife, Barbara Mitchell White, age 67, died Saturday, June 14. The couple both died after lengthy illnesses. They resided in Newport News, Virginia for the last 45 years. Mr. White was the son of the late Roy A. White of Shelbyville. They are survived by a son, William W. White of Bridgemanor, Florida; a daughter, Sandra Cleaves of Columbia, South Carolina and three grandchildren. Herman is also survived by a brother, William R. White of Murfreesboro, and Barbara is survived by a sister, Dorothy Garretty of Virginia Beach. A visitation was held from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, June 16, in the W.J. Smith & Son Funeral Home in Newport News, Virginia. Funeral services for the couple will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, June 17, in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Clarence W. Hilling officiating. Burial will follow in the Parklawn Memorial Park.
