Dr. Charles James Johnson “Rev.”age 79, of Sweetwater, TN, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, July 13, 2003, at Woods Memorial Hospital after a prolonged illness, and stay at the McMinn Memorial Nursing Home. He was born in Barnesville, GA. He was a graduate of More House College in Atlanta, GA, where he received his Master Of Divinity Degree. He also receive his Doctorates of Theology and Ministry from Trinity Theological Seminary in Newburgh, IN. He served the Lord as and Ordained Minister for over 50 yrs. Retaining the title of Pastor Emeritus for the First United Presbyterian Church of Athens, and St. Paul United Presbyterian Church of Sweetwater. He was also past Adjunct Professor at Cedine Bible Institute in Spring City, TN, and at Tennessee Wesleyan College in Athens, TN. He was the writer of “Charlie’s Corner” since 1966 for the “Daily Post Athenian” and the Advocate and Democrat newspaper’s since the 1990’s. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Army during WWII and was stationed in the South Pacific. Preceded in death by his parents: Emmet and Ruthie Johnson of Atlanta, GA, brothers: Benny Johnson, Jerome Johnson, Emory Johnson, and a son: Michael A. Johnson. Surviors include: Wife: Mary E. Anna Rhea Morrison, age 88, of Paint Rock Valley Rd., Loudon, passed away Thursday, June 12, 2003, at the family home. Mrs. Morrison was a member of Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband: Forrest Morrison. Survivors include: Sons and Daughters-in-law: Michael F. and Penny L. Morrison of Paint Rock, Eddie and Peggy Yarber of Rossville, GA; Grandchildren: Roy, Randy Yarber, Chris Morrison, April Woodard, Paul Coleman, Kesia Morrison; Several Great-grandchildren; Sisters: Mildred McGinnis of Lenoir City, Pauline McPhail of Cleveland; Brothers: Roy Thomas of Sweetwater, Clyde Thomas of Maryville; Several Nieces and Nephews. John W. Humphreys, age 60, of Sweetwater, passed away Friday July 4, 2003 at Sweetwater Hospital after a brief illness. He was of the Baptist Faith. Mr. Humphreys was the manger of Sweetwater Fast Lube. Preceded in death by his parents: John and Mildred Branam Humphreys. Clarence D. Bettis age 82, of Loudon, passed away Monday, June 30, 2003, at U.T. Medical Center, Knoxville, after a brief illness. He was a long time member of Cedar Fork Baptist Church. Mr. Bettis was a well known Loudon Co. Farmer and was very active member of the many farm organization in the area. Preceded in death by his parents: Albert and Mary Brackett Bettis, brother: Edward Bettis, sisters: Mary Brackett, and Pauline Buckner, son-in-law: Michael Kincaid. Survivors include: Wife of 56 yrs., Edith R.
