Graveside services for Mrs. Kemp were held Friday, May 20, 2005, at 2:00 p.m. at Brock's Cemetery in Greenfield. Randy Stacy officiated the services. Mrs. Kemp was a homemaker and member of Brock's Chapel Church. She was born January 21, 1909 in Greenfield. Mrs. Kemp was preceded in death by a grandchild, George Summers II. Mrs. Kemp is survived by a son, George Summers of Linden, Tennessee; a sister, Daisy James of Lexington, Tennessee; seven grandchildren; and fourteen great-grandchildren.

Millie Phillips Brawner
Millie Phillips Brawner, 80, of Gleason, died Thursday, May 19, 2005, at Madison County General Hospital in Jackson. Funeral services for Mrs. Brawner were held Sunday, May 22, 2005, at 2:00 p.m. at Gallimore Funeral Home Chapel in Gleason. Burial followed in Hopewell Cemetery. Rev. Bob Copeland officiated the services. Mrs. Brawner was a homemaker and member of Beech Springs Baptist Church. She was born September 12, 1924 in Gleason to the late Lonnie and Hattie Trentham Phillips. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Brawner was also preceded in death by her husband, Lonnie Brawner. Mrs. Brawner is survived by two sons, Tommy Brawner of Martin, and Jerry Brawner of Milan; a daughter, Patsy Ezell of Gleason; a sister, Betty Babb of Martin; seven grandchildren; and twelve great-grandchildren.

Billie Joe Johnson, 75, of Gleason, died Sunday, June 19, 2005, at Regional Hospital in Jackson. Funeral services for Mr. Johnson will be held today, Wednesday, June 22, 2005, at 11:00 a.m. at Gallimore Funeral Home Chapel in Gleason. Burial will follow in New Valley Cemetery. Rev. Mike Jeffers will officiate the services. Mr. Johnson was retired from the Weakley County Highway Department. He was born June 22, 1929 in Gleason. Mr. Johnson was preceded in death by his father, Oscar B. Johnson; a brother, Ronnie Johnson; and three sisters, Jean Johnson, Genevieve "Pete" Garner, and Peggy Johnson. Mr. Johnson is survived by his wife, Emma Jean Jensen Johnson; his mother, Maggie Lois Ellis Johnson of Gleason; and a sister, Maggie Ruth Townsend of Gleason.

Homer James Carroll
Homer James Carroll, 92, of Henry, died Thursday, June 16, 2005, at McKenzie Regional Hospital. Funeral services for Mr. Carroll were held Sunday, June 19, 2005, at 2:00 p.m. at LeDon Chapel Ridgeway Funeral Home in Paris. Burial followed in Bethlehem Baptist Cemetery in Henry. Gene Price officiated the services. Mr. Carroll formerly worked at Martin Brothers Box Company in Martin. He was born March 11, 1913 in Henry to the late James Robert Carroll and Maudie Lindsey Carroll. In addition to his parents, Mr. Carroll was also preceded in death by his wife, whom he married June 27, 1994, Lena Mae Fry Carroll; nine sisters, Mable Carroll, Birdie Carroll, Sally Wallace, Pauline Tyler, Bertha Houston, Lubie Bennett, Katherine Paschall, Elizabeth Hawks, and Valley McDaniel; and brothers, Ralph, Robert, and Earl Carroll, and one brother in infancy. Mr. Carroll is survived by three daughters, Brenda Miller of Parsons, Tennessee, Regina Vines of Henry, and Shelia Daily of Decaturville, Tennessee; three sons, James Thomas Carroll of Chicago, Illinois, Ricky (Cathey) Carroll of Martin, and Michael Carroll of Nashville; a brother, J.W. Carroll of Dresden; twenty-six grandchildren; forty great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

Mamie Goodrich Hainline
Mamie Goodrich Hainline, 96, of Dresden, died Thursday, June 16, 2005, at McKenzie Regional Hospital. Funeral services for Mrs. Hainline were held Saturday, June 18, 2005, at 2:00 p.m. at Bowlin Funeral Home Chapel in Dresden. Burial followed in Lebanon Church Cemetery in Dresden. Mrs. Hainline was a homemaker and member of Lebanon Church of Christ near Dresden. She was a native of Graves County, Kentucky, the daughter of the late Finis Ewing and Katie Weems Goodrich. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Hainline was also preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd Wayne Hainline. Mrs. Hainline is survived by four sons, Edward Hainline of Dresden, Lowell Hainline of Nashville, Lloyd W. Hainline, Jr. of Nashville, and Lawrence Hainline of Simi Valley, California; and three grandchildren.

Thomas Eugene Walton
Thomas Eugene Walton, 69, of Dresden, died Tuesday, June 14, 2005, at Regional Medical Center in Memphis. Funeral services for Mr. Walton were held Saturday, June 18, 2005, at 10:00 a.m. at Gardner Funeral Home in Sharon. Burial followed in Woodlawn Cemetery in Sharon. Sister Mary Stephens officiated the services. Mr. Walton was an Iron Worker and member of the Local #167 Ironworkers Union. He was born October 29, 1935 in Nutbush, Tennessee. Mr. Walton is survived by his wife, Judy Walton of Dresden; two stepdaughters, Vickie Adams of Etowah, Tennessee, and Janie Brewer of Henning, Tennessee; two stepsons, Rodney Brewer of Etowah, Tennessee, and Terry Brewer of Dresden; his mother, Mable Marshall of Jackson; sixteen grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Claude Callins, Jr.
Claude Callins, Jr., 81, of Greenfield, died Saturday, June 18, 2005, at Martin Health Care Center. Funeral services for Mr. Callins were held Monday, June 20, 2005, at 11:00 a.m. at Williams Funeral Home in Greenfield. Burial followed in Gearin's Chapel Cemetery in Greenfield. Jerry Powell officiated the services. Mr. Callins was born March 27, 1924 in Greenfield to the late Claude Callins, Sr. and Ivy Flowers Callins. Mr. Callins is survived by six sons, Jimmy Callins of Greenfield, Billy Callins of Greenfield, Bobby Callins of Greenfield, Donnie Callins of Greenfield, Roy Callins of Dyersburg, and Mike Callins of Greenfield; a brother, Tom Callins of Greenfield; thirteen grandchildren; and eleven great-grandchildren.

Jerry R. Vickers, 59, of Martin, died Friday, June 17, 2005, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Union City. Funeral services for Mr. Vickers were held Tuesday, June 21, 2005, at 11:00 a.m. at Murphy Funeral Home in Martin. Burial followed in Travis Chapel Cemetery in Dresden. Rev. Dan Gresham and Rev. Malcolm Norton officiated the services. Mr. Vickers was a former employee at World Color and a veteran of the United States Army. At the time of his death, he was a C.N.A. at Weakley County Nursing Home. He was born February 6, 1946 in Weakley County to the late Cecil Vickers, Sr. and Velma Merrell Vickers. Mr. Vickers is survived by his wife, Marinan Gardner Vickers of Martin; a daughter, Tanya Ilene Wilds of Dukedom; two sons, Shawn Lee Vickers of Dresden, and Shane Barnett Vickers of Hillsborough, North Carolina; a stepson, Bryan Eugene Ward of Bon Aire, Georgia; two sisters, Edna Wade of Paris, and Velma Pleasant of Ocala, Florida; a brother, Cecil Vickers, Jr. of Martin; two step-brothers, Johnny Stout of Martin, and Terry Stout of Georgia; three grandchildren; and two step-grandchildren.

Rev. Virgel Crockett Hazlewood
Rev. Virgel Crockett Hazlewood, 84, of Gadsden, Tennessee, died Friday, June 17, 2005, at Humboldt General Hospital. Funeral services for Rev. Hazlewood were held Monday, June 20, 2005, at 10:00 a.m. at Gadsden First Baptist Church. Burial followed in Gardner Cemetery in Martin. Rev. W.L. Leach, Rev. Robert Ross, and Rev. Terry Graves officiated the services. Rev. Hazlewood was a Baptist Minister and a Landscape Architect Designer. He owned Hazlewood Nursery in Gadsden. Rev. Hazlewood was a member of Gadsden First Baptist Church and attended Union University and the Baptist Theological Seminary in Ft. Worth, Texas. He was born September 7, 1920 in Weakley County to the late Austin Crockett Hazlewood and Lorene Buntin Hazlewood. In addition to his parents, Rev. Hazlewood was also preceded in death by two brothers, George Hazlewood and Rev. William (Bill) Hazlewood; and a sister, Genella Buchanan. Rev. Hazlewood is survived by his wife, Mrs. Mildred Cherry Hazlewood of Gadsden; two sons, Danny Hazlewood of Gadsden, and Philip Hazlewood of Gadsden; five daughters, Patricia Lovett of Gadsden, Janet Copeland of Martin, Sarah Hollingsworth of Nashville, Sandra Avery of Alamo, and Cathy Curtis of Gadsden; two brothers, Rev. John Earl Hazelwood of Martin, and Charles E. Hazlewood of Martin; a sister, Virginia Wells of Martin; seventeen grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.

Wilfrid Allen "Al" Hammond
Wilfrid Allen "Al" Hammond, 61, of Martin, died Friday, June 17, 2005, at VanAyer Manor Nursing Home in Martin. Mr. Hammond was Director of Food Services at the University of Tennessee at Martin. He was born February 11, 1944 in Marlborough, Massachusetts. Mr. Hammond is survived by his son, Walter Hammond of Humboldt, Tennessee.

Emma Lou Freeman Davis
Emma Lou Freeman Davis, 83, of Martin, died Monday, July 4, 2005, at Quince Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Memphis. Funeral services for Mrs. Davis will be held Friday, July 8, 2005, at 10:00 a.m. at Murphy Funeral Home in Martin. Burial will follow in East Side Cemetery in Martin. Rev. Matt Brown will officiate the services. Mrs. Davis was a supervisor at Merritt Clothing Company and was also a member of Central Baptist Church. She was born March 28, 1922 in Weakley County to the late Joseph Franklin Freeman and Jossie Davis Freeman. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Davis was also preceded in death by her husband, Claude R. Freeman; four brothers, Alvin Woodrow Freeman, Cleo Freeman, Gaither Freeman, and Ed Freeman; and a sister, Slemer Garewood. Mrs. Davis is survived by two daughters, Barbara O'Brien of Key Biscayne, Florida, and Marilyn Henderson of Memphis; a brother, Doyle Freeman of Marion, Indiana; two sisters, Doretha Williams of Martin, and Maxine Chambers of Memphis; two grandchildren, Michelle Ferrell of Martin, and Shane Garner of Oakland, California; and one great-granddaughter, Savannah Vincent of Martin.

Glenda Ann Carlton
Glenda Ann Carlton, 63, of Dresden, died Sunday, June 26, 2005, at Volunteer Community Hospital in Martin. Funeral services for Mrs. Carlton were held Tuesday, June 28, 2005, at 2:00 p.m. at Bowlin Funeral Home Chapel in Dresden. Burial followed in Sunset Cemetery in Dresden. Bro. Joe Williamson officiated the services. Mrs. Carlton was a homemaker and member of Liberty Baptist Church near Dresden. She was a native of Weakley County. Mrs. Carlton was preceded in death by her husband, Mr. Samuel Durell Carlton. Mrs. Carlton is survived by a stepdaughter, Diane McClure of Dresden; a stepson, Nyle Carlton of Dresden; special friend, L.G. McClure of Dresden; four step-grandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren.

Lillian Lee Ross
Lillian Lee Ross, 83, of Dresden, died Wednesday, June 29, 2005, at Volunteer Community Hospital in Martin. Graveside services for Mrs. Ross were held Thursday, June 30, 2005, at 10:00 a.m. at Sunset Cemetery in Dresden. Dr. Charlotte Mansfield officiated the services. Mrs. Ross was a homemaker and member of the First United Methodist Church in Dresden. She was born in Weakley County to the late Guy Edward and Josephine Holbrook Smith. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Ross was also preceded in death by two brothers, Ed Smith and Guy Delo Smith. Mrs. Ross is survived by her husband of 58 years, Finis Lee Ross of Dresden; a sister, Jane Hazelwood of Dresden; and a brother, Ted Smith of Destin, Mississippi.

Michael Spence Freeman
Funeral services for Michael Spence Freeman, 49, were held Saturday, July 2, 2005, at 11:00 a.m. at Englewood Baptist Church with Dr. Philip Jett officiating. Burial followed in Martin Memorial Gardens in Martin. He died Wednesday, June 29, 2005, at his home. Mike was the son of the late Henry and Doris Freeman. He was born in Union City on November 15, 1955. He graduated from Union University. He was retired from Canteen Vending. Mike attended Englewood Baptist Church, where he taught first grade Sunday school, discipleship training for 7th and 8th graders, and coached church league basketball. He was also a dedicated coach with Dixie Youth Baseball. He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Deborah Smith Freeman of Jackson; a son, Christopher Michael Freeman of Jackson; brother-in-law, Roger Cagle of Gleason; niece, Amanda Cagle of Gleason; and a nephew, Josh Cagle of Gleason. He was preceded in death by a sister, Cynthia Cagle.

Telia Renee Hall
Telia Renee Hall, 46, of Union City, died Wednesday, June 29, 2005, at the Baptist Memorial Hospital in Union City. Funeral services for Mrs. Hall were held Saturday, July 2, 2005, at 2:00 p.m. at Woodland Mills Baptist Church. Burial followed in Obion County Memorial Gardens in Union City. Rev. Rick Burton officiated the services. Mrs. Hall was a nurse and member of the First Baptist Church in Woodland Mills. She was also a songwriter and pianist of gospel music. Mrs. Hall was born May 19, 1959 in Union City. Mrs. Hall is survived by her husband, whom she married July 10, 1981, Mike Hall of Union City; her parents, Billy Charles Hicks and Shirley Essary Hicks of Greenfield; two sisters, Tessa High of Dresden, and Vanessa Whitaker of Ridgeland, Mississippi; two sisters-in-law, Wilma Jo Griggs of Kenton, and Brenda Ledsinger of Atlanta, Georgia; four nephews, Lance Legons of Dresden, Tommy Griggs of Kenton, Tim Griggs of Kenton, and Karl Ledsinger of Atlanta, Georgia; and three nieces, Landie Legons of Martin, Tracy Griggs of Kenton, and Rita Ledsinger of Atlanta, Georgia.

Evie May Lassater
Evie May Lassater, 92, of Gleason, died Thursday, June 30, 2005, at her home. Graveside services for Ms. Lassater were held Sunday, July 3, 2005, at 1:00 p.m. at Eastside Cemetery in Martin. Doug Brasfield officiated the services. Ms. Lassater had worked for the University of Tennessee at Martin. She was born July 12, 1912 in Bradford to the late Will Osteen and Goredilia Lamb. Ms. Lassater is survived by a daughter, Mary Brasfield of Gleason; a son, Billie Watson of Martin; thirteen grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; and eleven great-great-grandchildren.

Katherine F. Bates
Katherine F. Bates, 87, of Greenfield, died Saturday, July 2, 2005, at her home. Funeral services for Mrs. Bates were held Monday, July 4, 2005, at 11:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Greenfield. Burial followed in Highland Cemetery in Greenfield. Dwayne Maxey officiated the services. Mrs. Bates was a homemaker and attended the First Baptist Church. She was born March 13, 1917 in Greenfield to the late Edd B. Featherston and Nona Carlton. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Bates was also preceded in death by her husband, Joe Bates. Mrs. Bates is survived by two daughters, Janice B. (Bates) Davenport of Nashville, and Francis (Bates) Williams of Memphis; a son, Robert L. Bates of Dresden; a sister, Francine Featherston of Greenfield; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Mary Edna Stow
Mary Edna Stow, 74, of Fruitport, died Thursday, June 23, 2005. She was born in Dresden on May 27, 1931 to the late Tommie and Brooksie (Palmer) Darnell and married Harold Stow on November 27, 1948. Mrs. Stow was a homemaker and longtime member of Evanston Avenue Church of Christ. Survivors include her husband, Harold; a son, David Stow of Texas; a daughter, Nena (Mark) Pulsifer of Fruitport; four grandchildren, Amber, Alex, Jared, and Zack; a brother, Ed (Karen) Darnell of Florida; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Tena Stow; and a granddaughter, Joslyn Wesley.

Stephen Lewis Sidney Johnson, born August 24, 1954, died June 29, 2005 at his home in Sharon. He was preceded in death by his father, Lewis Wilson Johnson; and his grandchildren, Robert and Faith. He is survived by his mother, Imogene Rushing Johnson Weems of McMinnville, Tennessee; his stepmother, Joy Johnson of Madison, Tennessee; daughter, Jennifer Warren (Zack) of Sharon; grandson, Justin Scott Warren of Sharon; three sisters, Mary Jean Good of Plainfield, Illinois, Debbie Mancuyas (Revel) of Manchester, Tennessee, and Ann Lipham of Jackson, Tennessee; two brothers, Greg Johnson (Monique) of Madison, Tennessee, and Ricky Johnson (Gina) of Crosby, North Dakota; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins; and ex-wife and friend, Sharon Johnson of Sharon.

Mrs. Kemp was a homemaker and a Baptist by faith. She was born June 26, 1951 in Birmingham, Alabama. Mrs. Kemp was preceded in death by her father, Clyde Renfroe. Mrs. Kemp is survived by her husband, Tony Kemp of Dresden; two sons, John Evans of Union City, and Scott Evans of Selmer, Tennessee; a stepdaughter, Athena Scherffius of Newbern; a stepson, Anthony Kemp of Union City; and her mother, Pearl (Stewart) Renfroe.

Finis Ward Hagler
Finis Ward Hagler, 78, of Gleason, died Saturday, September 17, 2005, at Regional Hospital in Jackson. Funeral services for Mr. Hagler were held Tuesday, September 20, 2005, at 2:00 p.m. at Gallimore Funeral Home Chapel in Gleason. Burial followed in New Valley Cemetery. Rev. Mike Jeffers and Rev. Gene Price officiated the services. Mr. Hagler was a self-employed retired truck driver and a member of New Valley Methodist Church in Gleason. He was born July 14, 1927 to the late Charley Byas Hagler and Annie B. Ward Hagler. In addition to his parents, Mr. Hagler was also preceded in death by his wife, Martha Jean Hagler. Mr. Hagler is survived by two sons, Mike Hagler of McKenzie, and Mark Hagler of Gleason; a sister, Linda Lawrence of Gleason; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

She was born August 24, 1914 in Fulton County, Kentucky to the late Fred Gammons and Ida Ladd Gammons. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Spence was also preceded in death by her husband, O.C. Spence. Mrs. Spence is survived by a daughter, Barbara Cochran of Martin; a brother, Harold Gammons of Union City; two sisters, Marie Glover of Union City, and Virginia Dare Hayes of Samburg, Tennessee; three grandchildren, Deborah Blair-Rodriquez of California, Donna Taylor of Hardin, Kentucky, and Carol Morris of Union City; seven great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
