John Richard Davis, II
John Richard Davis, II, 75, of Oak View, California, formerly of Dresden, died June 9, 2006, in Oak View. Memorial services were held in Oak View. The body was cremated. Mr. Davis was born October 9, 1930, in Dresden, son of the late Vollie O'Neal Davis and Mrs. Arline Moore Davis. He was a Vietnam veteran, serving four years in the Navy and 19 years in the Air Force. He retired from the military August 31, 1971, at McCord Air Force Base in Tacoma, Washington, and moved his family back to Oak View. Mr. Davis is survived by his four daughters, Theresa Barbara Buckland of Oak View, California, Mary Rose Davis of Tacoma, Washington, Catherine Arline Stanley of Ventura, California, and Diana Marie Nachtsheim of Woodstock, Georgia; his sister, Mary Elizabeth Davis Guill of Dresden; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Mr. Davis was preceded in death by his wife, Rosalie Belletti Davis; and his brothers, Edward Douglas Brummitte of Martin and Jerry O'Neal Davis of Memphis.

Lois Cashion Miller
Lois Cashion Miller, 72, of Martin, died Friday, June 23, 2006, at Volunteer Community Hospital in Martin. Funeral services for Mrs. Miller were held Monday, June 26, 2006, at 11:00 a.m. at Bowlin Funeral Home Chapel in Dresden. Burial followed in Wesley Chapel Cemetery in Paris. Elders Charles DeMoss and Eddie Hicks officiated the services. Mrs. Miller had been a supervisor at Kellwood and was part owner of Miller Country Hams. She was also a member of Matheny Grove Primitive Baptist Church in Dresden. Mrs. Miller was a native of Weakley County and the daughter of the late Jess and Ida Mae Melson Cashon. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Miller was also preceded in death by her husband, Mr. Glen Rogers Miller. Mrs. Miller is survived by two stepdaughters, Marsha Morton of Henry, and Glenda Myers of Hardin, Kentucky; two sisters, Ollivene C. Hawks of Palmersville, and Geneva Foster of Dukedom; a niece, Julia Hawks of Martin; three nephews, Larry Hawks of Ripley, Gary Hawks of Dresden, and Seldon Cashon of Dresden; four step-grandchildren; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.

Nona Mae Cantrell
Nona Mae Cantrell, 69, of Greenfield, died Wednesday, June 14, 2006, at Jackson Madison County Hospital. Funeral services for Mrs. Cantrell were held Friday, June 16, 2006, at 2:00 p.m. at Williams Funeral Home in Greenfield. Burial followed in Meridian Cemetery in Greenfield. Bro. Bobby O'Dell and Bro. Brent Arnold officiated the services. Mrs. Cantrell was a homemaker and attended Greenfield Church of Christ. She was born January 19, 1937 in Greenfield to the late Phillip Featherston and Ola Mae Featherston. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Cantrell was also preceded in death by her husband, Charles Cantrell; and a son, Ronnie Cantrell. Mrs. Cantrell is survived by three sons, Terry Cantrell of Greenfield, Jerry Cantrell of Greenfield, and Donnie Cantrell of Greenfield; a daughter, Lisa Cantrell Banks of Greenfield; a sister, Mary Ellen Harris of Sharon; a brother, Glynn Featherston of Martin; thirteen grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Frances Galey Cantrell, 89, of Greenfield, died Thursday, August 24, 2006, at Weakley County Nursing Home in Dresden. Funeral services for Mrs. Cantrell were held Sunday, August 27, 2006, at 4:00 p.m. at Williams Funeral Home Chapel in Greenfield. Burial followed in Meridian Cemetery in Greenfield. Wayne Perkins and David Worley officiated the services. Mrs. Cantrell was a former employ of Kellwood and attended Bethel Baptist Church. She was born September 8, 1916 to the late John Audie Galey and Viola Blanch (Ellis) Galey. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Cantrell was also preceded in death by her husband, Joe David Cantrell. Mrs. Cantrell is survived by a cousin, Georgie Robert Ellis of Dyer; four nieces, Barbara Parish of Michigan, Marsha Vaughn of Michigan, Bonnie Carol Pleva of Michigan, and Peggy Vaughn of Michigan; a great-niece, Sherry Vaughn of Michigan; and a great-great-niece, Ona Marie Vaughn of Michigan.

Ms. Mayo is survived by a daughter, Dixie Kendall of Geneva, Kentucky; her mother, Millie (Eilers) Adams of Dresden; three sisters, Julie Adams of Greenfield, Ellen Adams of Nashville, and Suzanne Crowell of South Fulton; two brothers, Brent Adams of Dresden, and Ken Adams of Union City; and one grandchild.

Judy Erwin Hester
Judy Erwin Hester, 58, of Sharon, died Sunday, August 20, 2006, at her home. Funeral services for Mrs. Hester were held Wednesday, August 23, 2006, at 2:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church. Burial followed in Gardner Cemetery. Dr. Jerry Summers and Rev. Franklin Gardner officiated the services. Mrs. Hester was a schoolteacher at Sharon Elementary School. She was born August 12, 1948 in Sharon. Mrs. Hester is survived by her husband, James Arthur Hester of Sharon; two sons, John Hester of Antioch, Tennessee, and Michael Hester of Antioch, Tennessee; a daughter, Jennifer (Jerry) Ramsey of Martin; a brother, Barry Erwin of Sharon; and two grandchildren.

Adell Brann, 84, of Dresden, formerly of Latham, died Sunday, October 1, 2006, at Henry Co. Healthcare Center in Paris. Funeral services for Mrs. Brann will be held today, Wednesday, October 4, 2006, at 11:00 a.m. at Jackson Funeral Home in Dukedom. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery in Dukedom. Bro. Richard Carlson will officiate the services. Mrs. Brann was a member of the former Oak Grove Church of Christ and was the owner and operator of the former Adell's Grocery Store in Latham. She had also worked in the cafeteria at the Hillview Nursing Home in Dresden. Mrs. Brann was born January 16, 1922 in Weakley County to the late James Henry Rea and Emma (Dial) Rea. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Brann was also preceded in death by her husband, Carl Brann; a son, Lyndel Earl Brann; a grandson; a sister; and five brothers. Mrs. Brann is survived by a son, James Hezzie Brann of Youngsville, North Carolina; a daughter, Janice Ann Gunter of New Canton, Virginia; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Blanche Boyett Roberts, 86, of Martin, died Friday, September 22, 2006, at Martin Health Care. Funeral services for Mrs. Roberts were held Sunday, September 24, 2006, at 2:00 p.m. at Gardner Funeral Home Chapel in Sharon. Burial followed in Woodlawn Cemetery. Rev. George Butler officiated the services. Mrs. Roberts was born March 5, 1920 in Gibson County and was reared in Rutherford, Tennessee. She was the daughter of the late Walter and Zeta (Montgomery) Boyett. Mrs. Roberts was a hairdresser. She married James Russell Roberts of Sharon in 1941 and they made their home in Sharon. He died in 1984. Mrs. Roberts was also preceded in death by a brother, Lynn Boyett; and three sisters, Marjorie Roffe, Mina Merl Savage, and Antoinette Percifull. Pelia Baptist Church in Martin. He was a native of Weakley County and the son of the late Joseph and Florence Tucker McGehee. In addition to his parents, Mr. McGehee was also preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Lucille Thompson McGehee; a daughter, Betty Jordan; three sisters, Relma McGehee, Montiree Horansky, and Ruth Erwin; two brothers, Gilbert McGehee and Wallace McGehee; and a grandson, Curtis Bennett. John R. "Johnny" Smith
John R. "Johnny" Smith, 76, of Dukedom, died Saturday, September 30, 2006, at his home. Graveside services for Mr. Smith will be held today, Wednesday, October 4, 2006, at 10:30 a.m. at the Biggs Family Cemetery in Olive Hill, Kentucky. Jeff Ward will officiate the services. Mr. Smith was a member of the Johnson Grove Baptist Church and was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in the Korean War. He was retired from the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. in Union City after 17 years of service, as a journeyman mechanic. Mr. Smith was born January 26, 1930 in Fulton County, Kentucky and lived in this area most of his life. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Virginia (Harrington) Smith; a grandchild, Heather Suzanne Babb; and a brother, James Wilson Smith. Mr. Smith is survived by his wife, whom he married November 4, 1958, Faye (Briggs) Smith; two daughters, Dianna M. She was born July 25, 1905 in Gardner, Tennessee to the late Claude Gardner and Cora Estelle Nowlin Gardner. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Hester was also preceded in death by her husband, Roy M. Hester; and a son, Robert M. Hester. He was a native of Weakley County and the son of the late Adran V. and Lera Lee Bradberry Davis. Mr. Davis is survived by his wife, Mrs. Arlene Blanche Dugas Davis of Dresden; a daughter, Tanya Jolley (Rory Baker) of Dresden; a stepdaughter, Diane Marie Schuster; a son, Timothy Davis of Spooner, Wisconsin; four stepsons, Rene' Brouillette, Robert Brouillette, William Brouillette, and Joseph L. Dewayne Harris officiated the services. Mr. Cook was a Security Guard for International Harvester and a member of New Hope Baptist Church. He was a native of Lake County and the son of the late Edwin and Mary Baker Cook. In addition to his parents, Mr. Cook was also preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Carlean Bowlin Cook. Jack Simmons
Jack Simmons, 80, of Murfreesboro, died Saturday, November 25, 2006 at Boulevard Terrace Nursing Center. Funeral services were conducted on Monday, November 27, 2006 at Murfreesboro Funeral Home in Murfreesboro with Rev. Eddie Smotherman officiating. Burial followed in Evergreen Cemetery. He was a McKenzie native and retired as an educator with the Department of Education. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, William Brown and Irene Billington Simmons. Survivors include: his wife, Mazie E. Simmons of Murfreesboro; two sons, Jack (Kathy) Simmons of Nashville, and Larry (SuzAnne) Simmons of Brentwood; one daughter, Vicki Cawthorn of Christiana; three grandchildren, Sherri Simmons, Scott Simmons, and Ryan Cawthorn; one sister, Shirley (Jack) Martin of McKenzie; and two nieces.

James (Dink) Crosser Billingsby
James (Dink) Crosser Billingsby, of West Paterson, New Jersey, was born December 3, 1918 and died November 28 at the age of 87. He is survived by his wife, Bunny Billingsby of West Paterson, New Jersey; sons, Lee Billingsby of Fairview Heights, Illinois, Dennis Billingsby of Perrineville, New Jersey, Keith Billingsby of Bridgewater, New Jersey; two daughters, Valerie Rose of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, and Allison Billingsby of West Paterson, New Jersey; eleven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was a member of Chatham Church of Christ in Chatham, New Jersey. He was preceded in death by his parents, G.L. and Ida Crosser Billingsby; brother, Flavil Billingsby; and a sister, Annie Lou Story. Surviving are brothers, Howard Billingsby and John Billingsby of Dresden; sisters, Pauline Walker of Martin, Reggie Roney of Gallatin, and Sue Harper of Franklin. A veteran of WWII, he served in Company A of the 37th Tank Battalion of the Fourth Armored Division, the spearhead of Patton's famed Third Army. He fought in 5 major battles and was one of the two survivors of his original company. He was a retired supervisor of White Castle in New York. He was buried with full military honors at Hatler's Chapel Church of Christ with Carl Harper officiating.

Stella F. Michael
Stella F. Michael, 82, of Dresden, died Friday, December 1, 2006, at Weakley County Nursing Home in Dresden. Funeral services for Ms. Michael were held Sunday, December 3, 2006, at 2:00 p.m. at Williams Funeral Home in Greenfield. Burial followed in Hornbeak Cemetery in Greenfield. Joe Lusby officiated the services. Ms. Michael attended the First Baptist Church. She was born June 21, 1924 in Greenfield to the late Alton (Buster) Smith and Maxie Sullivan. Ms. Michael is survived by three sons, Joe David Michael of Springville, Tennessee, Rickey Michael of Jackson, and Tony Michael of Bradford; four daughters, Barbara (Michael) Powell of Springville, Tennessee, Deborah (Michael) Batcheider of Jacksonville, Florida, Gail (Michael) Parker of Jackson, and Leishia (Michael) Castleman of Huntingdon; a sister, Betty Wright of Milan; seventeen grandchildren; and fifteen great-grandchildren.

Funeral services for Mr. Dillard were held Friday, December 1, 2006, at 2:00 p.m. at Harmony Baptist Church in Dresden. Burial followed in Sunset Cemetery in Dresden. Bro. Robert Johnson officiated the services. Mr. Dillard was a Baptist by faith and a veteran of the United States Army. He was a native of St. Louis, Missouri and the son of Donald Ray and Aline Long Dillard. Mr. Dillard is survived by two daughters, Stepanie Castleman of Christmasville, Tennessee, and Stacey Thomas of Murray, Kentucky; a son, Donald E. Dillard of Dresden; his parents, Don and Aline Dillard of Dresden; five brothers, Randy Eugene Dillard of Kansas City, Missouri, Michael Ray Dillard of Dresden, Kenneth Lee Dillard of Dresden, Jack D. Dillard of Dresden, and Jeffrey A. Dillard of Dresden; and seven grandchildren.

Thelma Ruth Palmer
Thelma Ruth Palmer, 81, of Dresden, died Sunday, November 26, 2006, at Volunteer Community Hospital in Martin. Funeral services for Mrs. Palmer were held Wednesday, November 29, 2006, at 11:00 a.m. at Bowlin Funeral Home Chapel in Dresden. Burial followed in Grove Hill Cemetery near Dresden. Bro. Donald Doster officiated the services. Mrs. Palmer was a housewife and a Baptist by faith. She was a native of Clintwood, Virginia and the daughter of the late Walter E. and Nola Kizzah Beverly. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Palmer was also preceded in death by her husband, Mr. Herschel Thomas Palmer; and a brother, Elmer Beverly. Mrs. Palmer is survived by a daughter, Patricia Jean Stout of Cordova, Tennessee; two sons, Thomas E. Palmer of Dresden, and Robert L. Palmer of Dresden; a sister, Hazel Browning of Springfield, Tennessee; a brother, Ray Beverly of San Diego, California; nine grandchildren; and twelve great-grandchildren.
