LAUDERDALE COUNTY, TENNESSEE DEATH NOTICES FROM 2004

Edward “Ed” Ault Sr., 91, passed away Dec. 20, 2004. Member of First Baptist Church of Fountain City. preceded in death by wife, Rosalee. Survived by children Ed Ault and Cynthia Hudson and their families. Mynatt Funeral Home.

Dolph L. Brown, 91, died Dec. 21, 2004. He dropped out of high school at about age 16 to open his first restaurant and had a successful career in the restaurant business, including opening the Kentucky Fried Chicken franchise in Knox County. After his wife, Liz Brakebill Brown, passed away in 1994, Dolph moved to Gatlinburg until recently. Rose Mortuary Broadway Chapel.

Louetta Keck Burchfield, 80, of Halls, passed away Dec. 17, 2004. Member of Salem Baptist Church. preceded in death by husband, William Horace Burchfield; sisters, Retha, Victoria, Tish, Lillian, Sarah; brothers, Edgar, Charles, John, Hughie, Ruble, Walter; son-in-law, Ted Miles. Survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Josephine and William Summers, Judith Ann Miles, Kathy and David Sharp; son, William Phillip Burchfield, and their families. Lynnhurst-Greenwood Chapel.

Elizabeth Taylor Caracostis, 97, died Dec. 21, 2004. Member of St. George Greek Orthodox Church and the Rose Society for many years. preceded in death by husband, Nicholas C. Caracostis, and sister, Loretta Bevins. Survivors include her brother, E.O. “Ed” Taylor, and his family. Rose Mortuary Broadway Chapel.

Opal R. Headrick, 82, passed away Dec. 19, 2004. Member of Midway Baptist Church. preceded in death by husband, Claude. Survived by children, Danna Gail Roach, Allen Headrick, and their families. Rose Mortuary Broadway Chapel.

Darrel W. Holt died Dec. 20, 2004. He served three years in the U.S. Military during WWII, where he was a trumpeter in the Air Corps Band, was a bugler and served in General Patton’s army. A self-made man, he earned his way through Washington State University by playing trumpet in small clubs in addition to the GI Bill. After working 12 years in commercial broadcasting and advertising, he earned a Ph.D. from Northwestern University and joined the Radio-Television-Film faculty at the University of Kansas. In 1971, Dr. Holt became the first permanent head of the Department of Broadcasting in the recently formed College of Communications at UT. He retired in 1988. He is survived by wife of 52 years, Kathryn; daughters: Randi Huntsman, Sandra Holt, Lori Lambert, and their families. Rose Mortuary Broadway Chapel.

Claude L. Longmire, 88, of Corryton, died Dec. 21, 2004. Member of Rutherford Memorial United Methodist Church and Masonic Lodge #321. He and wife, Ruby, were owners and operators of Longmire Grocery in Corryton from 1947-82. preceded in death by brother, Clun. Survived by wife of 61 years, Ruby; daughter, Leesa Beeler, sons, Dale and Joe Longmire, and their families; sisters, Irene Ingram, Eula Snoderly; aunt, Louvernia Welles. Stevens Mortuary.

Charles Robertson Mangam, 92, of Knoxville, died Dec. 22, 2004. He was a retired UT English professor and served overseas in Army Intelligence during WWII. Member of Church Street United Methodist Church. preceded in death by wife, Frances Seale Mangam. Local survivors include sister-in-law, Eve Seale; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Irene and Bain Stewart. Arrangements by Rose Mortuary Mann Heritage Chapel.

Teresa Lifford McGhee, 49, of Corryton, died Dec. 18, 2004 following an automobile accident. Survived by husband, William “Bill” McGhee; daughter, Tammy Webb; son, Travis McGhee; mother, Dena Lifford; sister and brother-in-law, Amy and Rick Merrell; brother and sister-in-law, Jim Jr. and Helen Lifford. Orice C. Myers passed away Dec. 19, 2004. Member of Unity Baptist Church. preceded in death by husbands, Edger Loy and John Myers; sons, Kenneth and Wayne Loy. Jerry R. Pace, 58, a life long resident and truck driver in Bledsoe, Ky. Local survivors include children: Shannin Pace Hoskins, Monica Pace; grandson, Seth Pace. Gentry-Griffey Chapel.

Iva Lewis Seiber, 89, passed away Dec. 20, 2004. Member of Cumberland Baptist Church; retired from Oakwood Elementary School. preceded in death by husband, Lones Seiber Sr. Survivors: son, Lones Seiber Jr; grandsons: Eric Seiber, Major Lones Seiber III, Michael Seiber and their families. Nancy Mead Szpakiewicz, 56, of Powell, passed away Dec. 18, 2004. She moved to Powell five years ago and was a manager at the Food City in Powell. Member of Oliver Springs Baptist Church. Survived by mother, Lorene Hoskins Mead; daughters, Tammy Larson, Leslie Muldrow; son, Michael Larson, and their families. Sharp Funeral Home.

Judge William Bruce Warwick, 82, of Maynardville, passed away Dec. 18, 2004. Member of Hubbs Grove Baptist Church, J.C. Baker Masonic Lodge, American Legion, VFW. Owner and operator of Maynardville Barber Shop, served in Japan during WWII, served as Circuit Court Clerk of Union County and presently serving as City Judge of Maynardville. preceded in death by son, Danny L. Warwick. Survived by wife of 57 years, Peggy Haynes Warwick; son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Stacy Warwick; daughter-in-law, Martha Warwick, and their families. Ailor Mortuary.

Ethel G. Wilson, 100, formerly of Knoxville, died Dec. 20, 2004. Retired form South Central Bell in 1969 with 35 years of service. Member of Telephone Pioneers and longtime member of Arlington Baptist Church. preceded in death by husband, James Sneed Wilson; son, James Sneed Wilson Jr.; brothers, Marvin and Edmond. Survived by son, Joe W. Wilson and family.

Beulah “Granny Bootie” Wright, 76, passed away Dec. 19, 2004. Retired after 30 years service with South Central Bell. preceded in death by husband, James T. Benny Joe Carr, 71, of Powell, passed away Dec. 14, 2004. Mr. Carr was a U.S. Navy veteran, a member of Glenwood Baptist Church, and a residential and commercial contractor who retired after 15 years at DeRoyal Industries. Survived by his wife, Barbara Carr; son, Gary Carr; granddaughter, Bailey; sister, Charlene Ausban; brothers, Richard Carr, Mike Carr and their families. Rose Mortuary Broadway Chapel.

Dennis Ray Conley, 67, of Powell, passed away Dec. 12, 2004. He was a member of Glenwood Baptist Church.
