LAUDERDALE COUNTY, TENNESSEE DEATH NOTICES FROM 2005

Jack Wesley Clarke, 78, passed away Feb. 1. Attended Green-way Baptist Church; served in U.S. Navy during WWII. Survived by wife of 60 years, Helen Hooker Clarke; children: Jack Clarke, Myron Clarke, Jeannie Andra Wise, Vickie Marlene Cope and their families. Lynnhurst-Greenwood Chapel.

John Walter Drinnen Jr., 83, passed away Jan. 30. Longtime member of Beaver Dam Baptist Church, U.S. Marine Corps veteran of WWII, retired from Propr-Temp Heating and Air. Survived by wife of 53 years, Jean Drinnen; daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Jim Ray; grandson, Jamie; siblings: Loriene Mills, Helen Hood, Howard Drinnen. Rose Mortuary.

Duncan Campbell Earl, 80, of Blaine, passed away Feb. 3. Retired master sergeant in the U.S. Army and combat veteran of WWII. Also served during the Korean and Vietnam conflicts, being honorably retired in 1974, after 22 years of service. Survived by wife of 59 years, Ruth; son, Dennis, and his family. Stevens Mortuary.

James Robert Eddy, 88, passed away Feb. 2. He served for 30 years in the U.S. military including time in the South Pacific during WWII. His military career was cut short at age 48 due to a massive stroke. He spent much of his life defending and advancing the rights of disabled veterans, including passage of the Americans with Disabilities Act. Survived by his wife of 52 years, Polly Johnson Eddy; son, Robert Johnson Eddy and his family; daughter, Paula Jean Millard. Stevens Mortuary.

Anna Belle Hall, 84, passed away Feb. 3. Employed with Knox County Schools as cafeteria manager for 18 years; volunteer at the Western Heights Baptist Center; and classroom volunteer at Alice Bell and Spring Hill schools. Active member of Gillespie Ave. Baptist Church. preceded in death by husband, Ben A. Hall; sister, Edith Chittenden McDaniel. Virgil Hemphill, 52, passed away Feb. 1. Attended Harvest Church. Survived by wife of 23 years, Linda Hemphill; children: Joe Hemphill, James Hemphill, Stephanie Bowers, Melissa Mynatt; father, Cecil Hemphill; siblings: Jessie Wilson, Charlie Hemphill, Doris Warren, Sue Green, Bobbie Conner, and their families. Dorothy Helen Johnson Kerwin, 81, passed away Jan. 29. Active member of Wallace Memorial Baptist Church since 1955. Attended Rule High School, graduated Knoxville High School and received her business diploma from Knoxville Business College. She worked at Knoxville Paper Box Company and St. Claire Finance Company. She helped establish East Tennessee Adjustment Company in Knoxville, Bristol and Chattanooga along with her husband in 1958. preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, John Joseph “Jack” Kerwin Sr. Survived by children: Kathy M. Kerwin, Connie S. Kerwin, Mary K. Moreland, John J. Kerwin Jr., Michael E. Kerwin and their families. Rose Mortuary.

Sue Knight, 57, of Powell, passed away Jan. 31. Member of Moran Baptist Church. Survived by husband, Lee “Dale” Knight; sons, Bobby Lee Patterson and Bryan Dale Knight; mother, Aileen McKamey. Holley-Gamble Funeral Home.

Mildred Kent Casey Maddox, 96, passed away Jan. 30. She attended Bright Hope United Methodist Church in Halls and was a member of the Eastern Star. preceded in death by husband, Everett E. Maddox. Survived by sons, Everett Kent and Robert Casey Maddox and their families. Stevens Mortuary.

Mildred Ruth Mitchell, 95, died Feb. 5. Member of Fairmont Presbyterian Church and retired as general officer of American Clothing Company after 42 years of service. Survivors include brother in-law, Don McNaughton, and his wife, Bessie; numerous cousins. Stevens Mortuary.

Joseph L. “Peanut” Neal, formerly of Kingsport and stepfather to Halls residents Todd and Sharon Cook, passed away Jan. 30. Other survivors include wife, Joyce Earls Neal; stepdaughters, Rita White and Donna Cox; stepson, Jeff Cook, and their families.

Tim Parsley, 44, passed away Jan. 29. Member of Black Oak Heights Baptist Church. Survived by parents, Harold and Cora Parsley; son, Adam Parsley; daughter, Karley Parsley; grandson, Tyler Parsley; sister, Brenda Parsley. Mynatt Funeral Home.

Virginia Mae Parrish, 87, passed away Feb. 1. Member of Central Baptist Church of Fountain City, Fountain City Garden Club and Fon-tinalis. Grad-uate of the University of Chattanooga. preceded in death by husband, Joseph Raymond Parrish Sr. Survived by sons, the Rev. Joseph Raymond Parrish, Dr. Robert Parrish, Charlie Parrish and their families. Gentry-Griffey Chapel.

Dr. Frances K. Patterson, 67, died Jan. 26. She graduated magna cum laude from the Women’s Medical College of Pennsylvania (later known as Temple University). For the past 36 years, she served as a pathologist at the UT Memorial Hospital and on the faculty of the residency program. She was instrumental in the founding of the Nuclear Medicine Department, the Nuclear Medicine Training Program and in the accreditation of the Pathology Residency Program. She was also an active competitive bridge player and attained the ranking of Silver Life Master. preceded in death by first husband (divorced), Malcolm R. Patterson. Survived by husband, Dr. Paul W. Cyble “Louise” Raley Ridenour, 64, of Heiskell, passed away Feb. 1. Member of Zion Hill Baptist Church; provided child care in her home. preceded in death by husband, James R. Ridenour. The Rev. Julian W. Spitzer passed away Jan. 30. He graduated from UT and Union Theological Seminary and had an honorary doctorate from King College. He served in the U.S. Navy as Chaplain during WWII and founded Sequoyah Hills Presbyterian Church where he was pastor. Survived by wife of 54 years, Twanda Brogdon Spitzer; daughter, Janet Spitzer Frey; son, Julian “Judd” W. Spitzer, Jr. and their families. Rose Mortuary.

Teddie E. Welch Jr., 54, passed away Feb. 3. Member of the Christian faith and employee of ORNL for 30 years. Retired with more than 20 years of service to the Army and National Guard.
