Sean Dewene Whaley, age 35 of Lewisburg, died Friday, June 13, 2003, in Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, TN.
Born in Wincester, TN, Sean was raised in Lewisburg and was the son of Buddy and Wanda Oliver Whaley of Lewisburg. He graduated from Marshall County High School in 1985. Sean loved sports: football, baseball, and NASCAR, and was a member of the 1984 State Football Championship team. Professionally, he was a certified technician in electrical and HVAC. At age 5, Sean accepted the Lord as his Savior, and was affiliated with Parkview Baptist Church while growing up. Presently, he was a member of the First Baptist Church of Lewisburg.
Sean is survived by his wife: Jennifer Chambers Whaley; 4 children: Jack Whaley, Austyn Whaley, Walker Sean Whaley, and Parker Bryson Whaley, and parents: Buddy & Wanda Whaley, all of Lewisburg; and two sisters: Shari W. Sharp of Lewisburg, and Shona W. Norman of Shelbyville. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday, June 16, 2003 at 1:00 PM from the chapel of Bills McGaugh Funeral Home. Rev. Tom Dumser and Darrell Whaley will officiate. Interment will follow in Middleview Memorial Gardens.
The family will be at Bills McGaugh Funeral Home from 4:00 until 8:00 PM Saturday and Sunday, and until the funeral hour on Monday for visitation.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of the 1984 State Football Championship team of Marshall County High School.

Mr. James Robert “Bobby” Hopkins, age 58 of Lewisburg, died Thursday evening in Marshall Medical Center.
Mr. Hopkins was a native of Marshall County, son of the late Gifford & Mary Elizabeth Moore Hopkins, a retired foreman at Walker Die Casting, and a member of the Antioch Church of Christ. Mr. Hopkins served in the United States Army during VietNam and was a member of the VFW.
He is survived by a daughter: Kim Darnell; son: Scotty Wayne Hopkins; brother: Donny Hopkins, all of Lewisburg; sister: Bambi England of Columbia; and 3 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife: Sue Hopkins in 1993, and a brother: Dean Hopkins.
The family will be at Bills McGaugh Funeral Home Friday from 5:00 until 8:00 PM, Saturday from 10:00 AM until 8:00 PM, and Sunday until the funeral hour for visitation.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM Sunday from the chapel of Bills McGaugh Funeral Home with burial in the Ring Cemetery.

Mr. George Thomas Hazlett, age 75 of Lewisburg, died Thursday evening in Marshall Medical Center.
Mr. Hazlett was a native of Marshall County, son of the late Arthur Lee and Sallie Williams Hazlett, and retired from Genesco Corporation and the Marshall County Highway Department.
He is survived by his wife: Mattie L. Hazlett; two daughters: Nancy Fagan and Emily Hazlett; one son: George R. Hazlett; two sisters: Myrtle Stinnett and Arlene Poarch; one brother: Shirley Hazlett; numerous grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren – all of Lewisburg.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 2:00 PM from the chapel of Bills McGaugh Funeral Home by Charles Lee. Burial will follow in Lone Oak Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Tony Hudson, George (Little Boy) Hazlett, Billy Childress, Michael (Jackhammer) Fagan, Larry Clay, and Buford Jones.
Bills McGaugh Funeral Home and the United States Forest Service have provided for the planting of a tree in memory of Mr. Hazlett.

Mr. Russell R. Mars, age 77 of Petersburg, died Saturday in NHC-Oakwood.
Mr. Mars was a native of Pine Grove, PA, and the son of the late Claude R. and Myrtle Kantner Mars. He was a truck driver and member of the Baptist church. He was also a veteran of World War II and a life member of the VFW, Pine Grove, PA Post.
He is survived by his wife: Velma Mars of Petersburg; a son: Raymond R. Mars of Bakersfield, California; 5 grandchildren: Jason Mars of Lewisburg, Robert Mars of Oregon, Stephanie and Michael Mars of Hawaii, and Cynthia Mars of Canada; 2 step-grandchildren: Karl Ansel of CO, and Melissa Ansel of Bakersfield, CA; and 8 great-grandchildren: Samantha Podoll, Jonathan Podoll, Nicholas Mars, Nathan Mars, Tabitha Mars, Elizabeth Sansano, Skyler Terrell-Ansel and Tyler Terrell-Ansel.
The family will gather on the family farm on Wednesday, March 26 at 4:00 PM for memorial and scattering services for Mr. Mars.

Mr. John Raymond Kinser, age 57 of Lewisburg, died Wednesday evening in the VA Medical Center in Nashville.
A native of Orlando, FL, John was raised in East Tennessee. He was a 1963 graduate of Oak Ridge High School in Oak Ridge, TN, and received his Master’s degree in Industrial Management from Northeastern State University. Following his military service during the Vietnam era, John traveled the world as a pipeliner and welding inspector in the petroleum industry. He was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church of Muldrow, OK, the China Post One, VFW, American Legion, and the American Welding Society. He was preceded in death by a son: Wendell Allen Kinser; and his dad: Wendell Ault.
He is survived by his wife: Donna Cummings  Johnson Kinser of Lewisburg; his mother: Helen Ault of Muldrow, OK; a sister: Ruth Ann Craig of Oceanside, CA; 2 daughters: Jill Helen Kinser of Roland, OK and Dee Ann Elliott of Osceola, MO; 4 step-children: Susanne Jolley of Lewisburg, Cindy Peden of Franklin, Ben  Johnson of Richmond KY, and Susan  Johnson of Nashville; 7 grandchildren; and 4 nieces: Amy Grace Delay of Denver, CO, Sabain Magdalene Craig of Las Vegas, NV, Leah Mary Craig of San Diego, CA, and Hesper Elizabeth Hoflund of Vista, CA.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 7:00 PM from the chapel of Bills-McGaugh Funeral Home. Burial, with military honors, will be Saturday at 3:00 PM Eastern time in the Anderson Memorial Gardens in Oak Ridge/Clinton, TN.
The family will receive friends from 4:00 until 7:00 PM Friday at Bills-McGaugh Funeral Home.

Mrs. Margaret E. Hodge, age 76, a resident of Garden Terrace in Douglasville, GA, died Wednesday morning in the Wellstar-Douglas Hospital in Douglasville.
Mrs. Hodge was a Lewisburg native, daughter of the late John and Lena Beth Little Davis, a homemaker, and member of the Baptist church.
She is survived by two sons: Jack L. Martin of Douglasville, GA, and John C. Martin of Cornersville, TN; a step-daughter: Jean Wilkinson of McDonough, GA; 7 grandchildren: Jack L. Martin, III, Christina Elizabeth Nelson, John Thomas Martin, Jenny Lynn Black, Kimberly Janet Primeau, Timmy Thompson, and Miranda McAdams; and 8 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday, April 4, at 11:00 AM from the chapel of Bills McGaugh Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Round Hill Cemetery in Belfast, TN.

Mrs. Lillie Sandra Bowden Gillespie, age 60, died Thursday in Panama City Beach, FL.
A native of Marshall County, she was a homemaker and member of the First Presbyterian Church. She was preceded in death by her father,Stanley Bowden and a son, John H. (Jack) Gillespie, V.
She is survived by her mother: Frances Helton Bowden of Farmington; son: Anthony (Karon) Bowden  Johnson of Lewisburg; brothers: Stanley Bowden, II of Cambridge, MA, Judge Steve Bowden and Phil Bowden, both of Lewisburg; husband: John H. Gillespie of Lewisburg; and special friend; Wayne Gipson of Panama City Beach, FL.

Mrs. Clara Ayers Harwell, age 68 of Columbia, died Sunday in Maury Regional Hospital.
Mrs. Harwell was a native of Marshall County, daughter of the late J. W. and Beulah Umbles Ayers, a homemaker, and a member of the Berea Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband: Norman Harwell in 1996; a great-grandchild: Breonna Walls and 3 siblings: James and Robert Ayers, and Wanda Foster.
She is survived by a son: Roger Harwell; and 4 daughters: Linda Potts, Norma Walls, Annie Waldrop, and Lena Harwell, all of Columbia; seven grandchildren: Jennie, Ricky, Peggy, Judy, Norman, David Wade, adn Michell; 2 step-grandchildren: Tracy and Shon; and 4 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be officiated by Rev. Aubrey Knois. Burial will follow in the Mars Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 PM Monday, through the day Tuesday, and until the funeral hour Wednesday at Bills-McGaugh Funeral Home.

Mrs. Oma R. Williams, age 94 of Lewisburg, died Tuesday evening in NHC-Oakwood.
Mrs. Williams was born in Bedford County in 1909. She was the oldest and last of the six children of Fred and Eula Bearden Reed, a housewife, and a member of the East Commerce Baptist Church. She was a past member of the Lewisburg Home Demonstration Club.
Mrs. Williams is survived by three daughters: Anne Barron of Lewisburg, Juanita Grandstaff of Lebanon, and Nancy Aldridge of Lewisburg; one son: Wyndell Williams of Goodlettsville; 15 grandchildren: David, Judy, Susan, Wyndell Jr, Debbie, Carol Ann, David Lee, Cherri, Traci, Lisa, Karen, Rachel, John, Becky, and Angie; and 22 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband: John Ollie Williams; and two sons: John Williams and Gary Coleman Williams.
Pallbearers will be David Barron, Wyndell Williams Jr, David Lee Williams, John C. Williams, Jason Donahue, Kevin Gaines, Randall Hawks, Tommy McCrary, and Evan Willing.
Members of the 65+ Women's Class and the Deacons of the East Commerce Baptist Church have been requested to serve as honorary pallbearers.
Rev. James Hickey and Rev. Carl Price will officiate the March 7 services.

Mrs. Porter Duncan Crawley, age 93 of Lewisburg, left to be with her Lord on Saturday, March 08, 2003, in NHC-Oakwood. In death, she joins two husbands: James Rufus Sims and Walter Crawley, and her sisters: Eudy  Johnson and Alfred Duncan.
Mrs. Crawley was a native of the Caney Springs Community of Marshall County, born in 1909 to Morgan and Pearl Baker Duncan. She was a mother and homemaker, and long-time member of the Greater First Baptist Church of Lewisburg.
Leaving to mourn her passing are her children: William “Billy” (Frances) Duncan Sims of Nashville, Paul Edward (Gwen) Crawley of Cleveland, Ohio, Mary Janice (Josh) Moore and Joanne (Ricky) Anderson Cheairs both of Lewisburg; 13 grandchildren: Vicki Bean, Ronald and Donald Sims, Marchioness Sims, and Quentin Sims all of Nashville, Petey Crawley, Monica Crawley, Erica Crawley, and Eric Crawley all of Cleveland, Ohio, Charles Crawley of Dahlgreen, VA, Jonathan Cruther of Reston, VA, Timothy Crutcher of Smyrna, TN, and Michael Anderson of Chapel Hill, TN; and 21 great-grandchildren.
The family will gather to visit with friends from 4:00 until 6:00 PM Sunday at Bills McGaugh Funeral Home.
A celebration of Mrs. Crawley’s life will be conducted Monday at 2:00 PM from the Greater First Baptist Church by Rev. Herbert Johnson. Entombment will follow in the Sunset Park Mausoleum.
Mrs. Crawley’s body will lie in state one hour prior to the services at the church.

Charles Edward ''Chuck'' Lewis, age 40, died Thursday in Nashville.
A native of Fairfield, CA, Chuck was a 1980 graduate of Bartlett (TN) High School and worked as a cable intaller. He was preceded in death by his father, Samuel Edward Lewis, and a half-sister, Janice Lewis.
Chuck is survived by his wife: Jennifer Lewis; and a son: Daniel Matthew Lewis, both of Mt. Pleasant; his mother and step-father: Marigrace and A. G. Burgett of Lewisburg; and two brothers: Dale Lewis of Murfreesboro, and Steven Paul Lewis of Lewisburg.
Burial will be in the Sunset Park Cemetery Garden of Love on Sunday, March 30, following 3:00 PM funeral services in the Bills McGaugh Funeral Home Chapel.
Pallbearers will be Lewis Noblin, Brian Lewis, Dale Lewis, Steve Lewis, and Jeff Harwell.

Mary Evelyn Blackwell, age 75 of Lewisburg, died Thursday evening in Centennial Medical Center in Nashville.
A native of Lincoln County, TN, she was the daughter of the late James Thomas and Allemai Cowan Smith, a homemaker, member of the First Baptist Church of Lewisburg, and widow of Leslie Blackwell, who preceded her in death in 1989.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law: Ricky and Connie Blackwell; 2 brothers: James and J. W. Smith; grand-daughter and husband: Jessica and Chris Ring; and two great-grand-daughters: Christa and Destinie Ring, all of Lewisburg.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 2:00 PM from the chapel of Bills McGaugh Funeral Home with burial in Lone Oak Cemetery.

Mrs. Ruth Van Horn Beech, age 73 of Lewisburg, died Monday morning in Atlantic Beach, Florida, follwoing a battle with cancer. She was born in Woodward, Oklahoma to the late late Archie Glenn and Clelia Lowe VanHorn.
Mrs. Beech attended Middle Tennessee State University, and received her bachelor's degree from the University of Maryland. She taught reading to adults in the community and was a longtime resident of Lewisburg. Mrs. Beech was a member of the Robert Lewis Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution and spent a military life traveling abroad with her husband of nearly 53 years and her three children.
Survivors include her husband, Lieutenant Colonel Harold Wayne Beech of Lewisburg; brother, John W. (Sara) Van Horn of Arkansas; sister, Wilma Katherine (Victor) Thomas of St. Louis, MO; sister-in-law, Mildred Van Horn of Lewisburg; daughters, Karen Beech (Jeffery) Grant of Orange Park, FL and Suzanne Beech (David) Jernigan of Crossville, TN; son, Curtiss Weyland (Anne) Beech of Kensington, MD; and six grandchildren: Megan Grant Rotchford, Joshua Andrew Grant, Jeffery Beech Grant, Amanda Lynn Jernigan, Rachel Anne Jernigan, and Austin Beech Jernigan.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be made to the the Marshall County Memorial Library, Post Office Box 1007, Lewisburg, TN 37091.

Mrs. Mary Hale Hooten Hoffman, age 82 of Mobile, AL, died Thursday morning in Providence Hospital in Mobile.
A native of Clinton, IL, Mrs. Hoffman was raised in the Lewisburg area. She was the daughter of the late William and Clemmie Powell Hale, and a member of the church of Christ. She was employed for many years with Eureka-Williams of Bloomington, IL, and worked in the bomb factories during World War II.
She is survived by her daughter: Delores Ann Ray of Mobile, AL; a brother: Donald Hale of Nashville, TN; 8 grandchildren: Daniel Keith Griffy, Julie Ann McAnnally, Lisa Kay Defilippo, Victoria Lawrence, Robert Stout, Barry Ray, Daniel Ray, and Frankie Ray; 17 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-grandchild.
Mrs. Hoffman's family will receive friends on Saturday, May 3, from 1:00 - 2:30 PM at Bills McGaugh Funeral Home. They will then gather at the Reed Cemetery on Verona-Caney Rd, for graveside services at 3:00 PM on Saturday. Mrs. Hoffman will be laid to rest beside her father.

Mr. Leonard Blackwell, age 87 of Lewisburg, died Tuesday morning, May 20, 2003 in Centennial Medical Center in Nashville.
Mr. Blackwell was born in Giles County in 1916 to John and Mazie Darnell Blackwell. He was a retired truck driver, current owner of Blackwell Sales & Tires in Shelbyville, and a member of the Baptist church. He was preceded in death by two wives: Robbie Mai Cozart Blackwell in 1962 and Rebecca Brown Blackwell in 1991.
He is survived by 10 children: Leslie L. Blackwell of Franklin; Charles Blackwell of Shelbyville; Pauline Hulshof, Virginia Allen, Sadie Hobbs, Carol Smith, Patricia Malave, Julene Reese, Dennis Blackwell, and Debbie Stephens all of Lewisburg; 32 grandchildren: Kathy Lynch, Donnie Hulshof, Robbie McNeese, Laura Malone, Monty Sanders, Kevin Sanders, Tina Wooten, Mark Sanders, Danny Blackwell, Mike Blackwell, Lois Vaughn, Shane Hobbs, Dianne Clanton, Cheryl Brooks, Tammy Nicholson, Stephen Smith, Tracy Malave, Melissa Malave, Dana Malave, Lisa Stacey, Sheila Vernon, Shane Reese, Joshua Reese, Jennifer Fancher, Steven Blackwell, Allan Blackwell, Elisha Duncan, Anthony Blackwell, Jeromy Blackwell, Christopher Blackwell, Kim Fowler, and Jason Linley; 54 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-grandchild.
