Frewl Buffaloe, 87, of Gates, died Wednesday, March 6, 2002, at his home. He was the retired postmaster of Gates, a farmer and a member of the Halls Masonic Lodge, the Gates Civic Club, the Halls-Gates Rotary, the National Association of Federal Employees, the Lauderdale County Farm Bureau and the Lauderdale County election committee. He was founder of the Gates Library, director of the Lauderdale County Baptist Hospital board of advisors and director of the Lauderdale County Nursing & Retirement Home. Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Gates Church of Christ. Halls Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Survivors include a daughter, Marion Greenwald of Marietta, Ga.; a son, Winford Buffaloe of Halls; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Laverne Buffaloe. The family requests any memorials be made to the Gates Library.

Nona Mae Alsup, 83, of Dyersburg, died Wednesday, March 6, 2002, at her home. She was a homemaker and a member of the First Christian Church in Dyersburg. Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in the chapel of  Johnson Funeral Home with Brother Darin Pratt and Brother Pat Patterson officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in Newbern. The family will receive visitors from 5:30-8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Survivors include four daughters, Barbara Arnold, Charlotte Davis and Jo Carolyn Hill, all of Dyersburg, and Edna Patterson of Cape Girardeau, Mo.; a son, John Alsup of Cincinnati; two brothers, Ed  Johnson and Newt Johnson, both of Dyersburg; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Randolph "Red" Alsup; her parents, Jim and Margaret Esther Creasy Johnson; a sister, Bessie Blackwell; and a brother, Bob Johnson. Pallbearers will be Jeremy Arnold, Chris Hill, Tim Davis, Carrie Patterson, David Patterson, Chris Boone, Angel Graves, Holly Pratt and Kristy Boone.

He was a carpenter, a U.S. Navy Veteran of World War II and member of Fowlkes Baptist Church where he was Sunday school superintendent, building committee board member and deacon. Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the church. Burial will be in Friendship Cemetery. Halls Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Survivors include his wife, Evelyn Follis Forbes; a daughter, Rita Diane Shelton of Olive Branch, Miss.; two sisters, Robbie Tinkle and Elsie Greene, both of Dyersburg; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
