Mary Helen Williams, 91, of Newbern, died Wednesday, June 12, 2002 at Methodist Healthcare-Dyersburg Hospital. She was a retired sales clerk with Kaplan's of Dyersburg for 29 years, a member of the Eastern Star and a member of Newbern First United Methodist Church. Services will be at 1 p.m. today in the chapel of  Johnson Funeral Home with the Rev. Tommy Jowers officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in Newbern. Survivors include a niece, Mary Ann Vandegriff of Memphis; a nephew, Alva Lynn Boor of Hammond, Ind., both of who cared for her. She was preceded in death by her parents, Elmer H. and Elva Enochs Williams. Pallbearers will be Robert Arnette Poore, Tom Palmer, Orlan Heathcott, Gerald Tidwell, David Anthony and Joe Adams. The family request that any memorials be directed to Newbern First United Methodist Church.

Thomas Watkins, 68, of Dyersburg, died Wednesday, June 13, 2002 at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital. He was a retired machine operator for Heckethorn Manufacturing, a member of Hornbeak Pentecostal Church and a Army and Navy Korean War Veteran. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in the chapel of Dyersburg Funeral Hoe with Sister Rose Huey officiating. Burial will be in Dyer County Memorial Gardens. The family will receive visitors at 5-9 p.m. today at the funeral home. Survivors include his wife, Edith Watkins; a daughter, Debbie Parham of Dyersburg; four sons, Gary Watkins, Darryl Watkins, Larry Watkins and Michael Watkins, all of Dyersburg; and eight grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Tommy Choate, Roger Moore, Timmy Lambert, Tommy Hodges, Jerry Price and David Choate.

Ellen Jones, 77, of Dyersburg, died Thursday, June 13, 2002 at Oakwood Community Living Center. She was a cook and a Baptist. Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. today in Dyer County Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Guy Merriman officiating. The family will receive visitors at 2-3 p.m. today at the J.W. Curry & Son Funeral Home. Survivors include a daughter, Charlotte Drummond of Dyersburg; a sister, Rebecca Terry of Binger, Okla.; a brother, Curtis Cunningham of Fan Leuis Abispo, Calif.; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Jones; and her parents, Charles and Lavena Cunningham. Pallbearers will be David Ring, Jerry Ring, James "Bo" Patterson, Bobby Baker, Gerald Hunter and C.L. Cunningham.

Ardessa Hicks Bellefont, 88, of Tigrett, died Thursday, June 6, 2002 in Wisconsin. She was a homemaker. Services will be at 1 p.m. today at Mount Pleasant Baptist church in Tigrett with the Rev. Lusby officiating. Burial will be in Currie-Apple Funeral Home in Alamo. Survivors include three daughters, Evelyn Edwards of Tigrett and Dorothy Hicks and Annie Hicks Mann, both of Milwaukee, Wis.; two sons, Franklin Hicks of Milwaukee, Wis. and Bennie Bellefont of Tigrett; a sister, Pearlie Mae Sinclair of Humboldt; two brothers, Allie d. Boykin of Pennsylvania and Countie Boykin of Ohio; 17 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Frank Hicks and Mack Neal Bellefont; a daughter, Arelee Hicks; and a son, Elmo Hicks.

He was a Chevrolet dealer for 31 years, served many years as an officer of the Texas Automobile Dealers Association, in 1964 was selected to serve on the Chevrolet National Dealers Planning Council to represent more the 6,000 Chevrolet dealers nationwide; in 1983 he received Time Magazine's Quality Dealer Award for Business Achievement and Community Service -- considered the most prestigious of all awards for automobile dealers; was one of the organizers of the Memorial Spring Branch Chamber of Commerce (now the West Houston Chamber of Commerce) and served on its original Board of Directors; a member and past president of Memorial-Spring Branch Rotary Club and was a Paul Harris Fellow.
