Trula Nelson Burkett
Trula Nelson Burkett, 78, of Olney, died Friday, January 22, 1999, in an Olney hospital.
Services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, January 23, at First Baptist Church of Olney with the Reverend Greg Johnson, pastor, officiating. Burial was in the Vera, Texas, Cemetery under the direction of Lunn Funeral Home.
Mrs. Burkett was born June 13, 1920, in Vera. She and William Artie Nelson were married July 15, 1939, in Archer City, Texas. He died November 29, 1978. She and Robert Burkett were married June 28, 1980, in Olney. She was a retired licensed vocational nurse and a member of the First Baptist Church. She was employed by Dr. Schlomach in Archer City for 12 years. She was responsible for starting the Sunday School Nursery at the First Baptist Church of Archer City. She had been a resident of Archer City since 1939 and moved to Olney in 1981.
Survivors include her husband; two sons, Ronnie Nelson of Houston and Lee Nelson of Oklahoma; a stepson, Travis Nelson of Archer City; two stepdaughters, Glenda Martin of Archer City and Patsie Dodd of Wichita Falls; a brother, Van Kuykendall of Seymour; two sisters, Juanita Purdom of Plainview and Marguet Bland of Dimmitt, Texas; 13 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 734, Olney, Texas 76374; or to Hamilton Hospital Foundation, in care of Burkett Memorial Scholarship, P.O. Box 158, Olney, Texas 76374.

Billy J. Moore
Billy J. Moore, 68, of Sunset, Texas, died Sunday, January 17, 1999, in a Bowie hospital.
Services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, January 20, 1999, at First Baptist Church of Sunset with Brother M.L. Milton officiating. Burial was in West Bridgeport Cemetery under the direction of Hawkins Funeral Home.
Mr. Moore was born July 3, 1930, in Seymour, Texas. He and Joyce Lemme were married September 12, 1959, in Bridgeport. He was a veteran of the Army. He had been a resident of Sunset for 40 years. He was a rural letter carrier and belonged to the State & National Rural Letter Carriers Association. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Sunset.
Survivors include his wife; his mother, Carrie Tucker of Bowie; two daughters, Brenda of Vashti and Karen of Sunset; seven brothers, Harry, Harvey, John, Richard, Dean, A.K. "Dinky" and Marshall; two sisters, Pauline Russell and Nell Whitson; and two grandchildren.

Mr. William Andrew "Bill" Hammes
Mr. William Andrew "Bill" Hammes, age 42, died Sunday, January 16, 1999, at Mineral Wells, Texas following a sudden heart attack.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 20, 1999, at Saint Paul Lutheran Church in Vernon, Texas, with Reverend Rusty Leavitt, Pastor, officiating. Interment was at Wilbarger Memorial Park under the direction of Sullivan Funeral Home.
Mr. Hammes was born December 20, 1956, at Dallas, Texas, a son of John and Marie O'Rear Hammes. He married Jackie Gfeller October 28, 1989, at Vernon. He attended Jesuit High School and relocated to Vernon in 1981, where he operated Snap-On Tool business. He was a member of Saint Paul Lutheran Church in Vernon. He coached several local Little League teams. He was a past President of the Wilbarger County Bass Club, where he was an avid member since its inception.
Survivors include his wife Jackie of the home; three sons, William Andrew Hammes Jr. of Almamogordo, New Mexico, Brian Hammes and Jacob Hammes both of Vernon; one daughter, Kimberly Hammes of Haskell, Texas; his mother, Marie Hammes of Rowlett, Texas; two brothers, John Hammes and James Hammes both of Rowlett; and two grandchildren, Britny and Bridget Hammes.
He was preceded in death by his father in 1988 and one brother David Hammes in 1960.
Pallbearers were Bill Hanley, Donald Tomlinson, Jeff Muessig, Pat Duvall, John Godsey, Kim Ditmore, Rudy Koch and John O'Rear.

Tommye L. Harlan
Tommye Loraine Harlan, 70, died Friday, January 8, 1999, in a Seymour, Texas hospital.
Graveside services were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, January 10 in Goree, Texas, Cemetery with Kent Trainham officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of McCauley-Smith Funeral Home.
Mrs. Harlan was born August 10, 1928, in Knox County, Texas. She was a postal employee in Goree and attended Methodist Nursing School. She was a dorm mother in Lubbock, Texas from 1969-1973. She returned to Munday to work as a licensed vocational nurse. She worked at the Seymour Hospital Authority.
Survivors include a daughter, Beverly Hamilton of Huntington Beach, California; her mother, Ola Coffman of Munday; and a grandson.

Grace Medaline Jones
Grace Medaline Jones, 89, died Sunday, January 10, 1999, in Abilene, Texas.
Services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, January 12, 1999, at Goree First Baptist Church with the Rev. James Teel officiating. Burial was in Goree Cemetery under the direction of McCauley-Smith Funeral Home in Munday, Texas.
Mrs. Jones was born October 31, 1909, in Newton, Miss. She and Felton Jones were married August 20, 1933, in Goree. She lived in Goree, moving to Sonora in 1933, and from Sonora to San Angelo in 1940. She moved from San Angelo to Abilene in May of 1998. She was a school teacher and a member of San Angelo First Baptist Church. She was a member of PTA and Literary Review and Texas State Teachers Association.
Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Sandra Thompson of Hamlin, Texas; a sister, Mabel Hampton of Wichita Falls; and three step-grandchildren.

Josie Melissa Dyer
Josie Melissa Dyer, 94, of Seymour, died Friday, February 19, 1999, in Seymour nursing home.
Services were held at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, February 21, 1999 at the Seymour Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Bud Branson, minister of the Seymour Church of Christ officiating. Burial was in the Riverview Cemetery under the direction of Seymour Memorial Funeral Home.
Mrs. Dyer was born February 3, 1905, in Comanche County, Texas. She and Jodie Dyer were married October 21, 1921, in Baylor County, Texas. He died July 26, 1985. She was a homemaker and a member of the Seymour Church of Christ. She moved to Baylor County in 1912.
Survivors include numerous nieces and nephews.

L.D. Allen
L.D. Allen, 83, died Friday, February 19, 1999, in a local hospital.
Services were held at 4:30 p.m. Sunday, February 21, 1999 at Red Springs Baptist Church, with the Rev. Jack Bennett officiating. Burial was in the Vera Cemetery in Vera, Texas, under the direction of Archer Funeral Home.
Mr. Allen was born January 26, 1916, in Jack County, Texas. He and Irene Welch were married December 5, 1937. He moved to Vera in 1923 and was a farmer. He was a member of the Red Springs Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife; a son, John E. of Seymour; two sisters, Lois Welch of Gilliland, Texas; and Louise Clark of Olton, Texas; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Valerie Hall Lewis
Valerie Hall Lewis, age 76, of Archer City, Texas, died Sunday, February 21, 1999 in a Wichita Falls hospital.
Services were held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 24, 1999 at the First Baptist Church of Archer City with Roger Deerinwater officiating. Burial was in the Archer City Cemetery under the direction of Aulds Funeral Home.
Mrs. Lewis was born August 5, 1922 at Red River County, Texas. She moved to Westover, Texas as a small child where she attended the Westover Schools. She and O.W. "Winfrey" Lewis were married July 29, 1939 in Seymour, Texas. She and O.W. moved to Archer County in 1942 where she resided throughout the remainder of her life. She had owned and operated several restaurants in Archer City including the Wildcatter and the Red Barn. They also owned the Country Kitchen in Kadane Corner. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Archer City where she had taught Sunday School for more than 50 years and had taught the Rhoda Class for the past twenty-five years. She was also a very active member of the Women's Missionary Union.
Survivors include: her husband, O.W. of Archer City; 3 daughters, Amy Posey and Mandy Harris, both of Archer City, and Nancy Herring of Newcastle, Texas; 1 son, Lynn Lewis of Archer City; 1 sister, Wanda Pickard of Archer City; 2 brothers, Handel Hall of Archer city and Frank Hall of Colleyville; 7 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
The family suggests memorials to the First Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 756, Archer City, Texas 76351.
