Richard William Guynes
Richard William Guynes, 74, died Friday, May 26, 2000, in a Wichita Falls hospital.
Funeral services will be held from Seymour Memorial Funeral Home Chapel on Thursday morning, June 1, at 11 o'clock. Pastor Keith Schweitzer and Reverend Ken Boersche will officiate, with Military Graveside Rites conducted by VFW Post 7871. Interment will be in Riverview Cemetery under the direction of Seymour Memorial Funeral Home.
Mr. Guynes was born March 20, 1926, in Bomarton, Texas. A distinguished veteran of 20 years Naval Service, Mr. Guynes served in World War II and Korea as well as in the atomic bomb testing in the South Pacific. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, an avid gardener, fisherman and hunter and a man of character. He was preceded in death by two brothers, J.D. and Lee, and two sisters, Rita Mae and Elsie.
He is survived by his loving wife, Arvilla L. Guynes, native of South Dakota; three daughters, Janiece Van Loon and Cherie Dischinger of Hollister, California, Suzanne McTighe of Hayward, California; two sons, Richard Guynes and John Guynes of Rhododeron, Oregon; ten grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a brother, James Guynes of Seymour; two sisters, Viola Peters of Seymour and Aslee Castleman of Fort Worth; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Richard Thomas "Dick" Morris
Richard Thomas "Dick" Morris, age 92, of Seymour, Texas, passed away Friday, June 16, 2000, in the Seymour Hospital.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, June 19, 2000, at the First Baptist Church in Seymour, with the Reverend Don Chaffin, officiating. Interment was in the Seymour Masonic Cemetery under the direction of Seymour Memorial Funeral Home.
Mr. Morris was born December 1, 1907, in Baylor County, Texas, to the late G.B. and Cora Lee Morris. He married Janette Plants on August 3, 1963, in Seymour, Texas. A graduate of Seymour High School and Baylor University, he was a U.S. Air Force veteran. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Seymour, a past president of the Seymour Chamber of Commerce and past president of the Seymour Rodeo Association. He served as a director of the First National Bank in Seymour for 43 years. He owned and operated Morris-Wirz Chevrolet in Seymour for 50 years.
He is survived by his wife, Janette Plants Morris of Seymour, Texas; by one sister, Helen Stone of Dallas, Texas; by one brother, G.B. Morris of Lubbock, Texas; and by numerous nieces and nephews.
Mr. Morris was preceded in death by eleven brothers and sisters.

Bessie Lou "Bess" Hooser
Bessie Lou "Bess" Hooser, age 73, of Seymour, Texas, passed away Friday, July 7, 2000, in Seymour.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 11, at the First United Methodist Church in Seymour with Reverend Larry Crumpton, pastor, officiating. Interment was in the Masonic Cemetery under the direction of Seymour Memorial Funeral Home.
Mrs. Hooser was born May 8, 1927, in Seymour, to the late Thomas Eric and Essie Melinda Swilling Brock. She graduated from Seymour High School and attended Texas Women's College in Denton, Texas. She married T.J. Hooser on July 21, 1947, in Seymour. He preceded her in death on August 13, 1987.
She attended Texas Tech University where she graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Education in 1968. She was a bilingual teacher and taught school at Hardwick Elementary School and an evening Continuing Education Class in Lubbock, Texas. She then taught at Andrews Elementary School in Andrews, Texas, Seymour Elementary School in Seymour and Blanton Elementary School in Odessa, Texas. After retiring in 1993, Mrs. Hooser returned to Seymour.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Seymour where she was active in the Escalator Sunday School Class and United Methodist Women. In 1996 and 1997, she participated with the United Methodist Church in two Medical Mission Tours to Guatemala. She was a member and current president of the Baylor County Retired School Personnel. She was also a member of the Texas State Teachers Association, the Baylor County Free Library, Friends of the Library and the Pierian Club.
She is survived by one daughter, Nanette Coffey, and her husband, James, and their son, Thomas Sterling of Tacoma, Washington; by one son, Mark Hooser, and his wife, Kriston, and their son, Riley Joseph of Canby, Oregon; by two sisters, Helen Jane Hooser of Seymour and Mary Lynn Welch of Big Spring, Texas; by one brother, Leonard Brock of Wichita Falls, Texas; and by a number of nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church in Seymour or the donor's favorite charity.

Simon De Luna Casillas
Simon De Luna Casillas, age 76, of Seymour, passed away Monday, July 24, 2000, in Seymour.
Christian Wake Services were held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 26, at the Seymour Memorial Funeral Home Chapel, with Deacon Jim Novak officiating.
Funeral Mass will be said at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, July 27, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Reverend Bart J. Landwermeyer officiating. Burial will be in the Benjamin Cemetery directed by Seymour Memorial Funeral Home.
Mr. Casillas was born February 16, 1924, in Bridgeport, Texas. He married Katherine Flores on January 29, 1949, in Knox City, Texas. He lived in Benjamin and Knox City before moving to Seymour in 1966. He was a mechanic for Montgomery Tractor Company. He was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus Council #3740 and Father Albert Assembly of the 4th Degree Knights of Columbus in Windthorst, Texas.
He is survived by his wife, Katy, of Seymour; by two daughters, Ruth Amador and her husband, Andrew, of Wichita Falls and Stella Glass and her husband, Troy, of Seymour; by one son, Vince and his wife, Jamie of Wichita Falls; by two sisters, Margaret Guerra of San Angelo, Texas, and Mary Rodriquez of Hobbs, New Mexico; by four brothers, Manuel of Wichita Falls, Jesse of Hobbs, New Mexico, Joe of O'Brien, Texas, and Frank of Seymour; by four grandsons, Monty, Johnathon, Jason and Damian; and by five great-grandchildren, Hailey, Tyler, Tatum, Tanna and Mariah.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Gregorio and Guadalupe De Luna Casillas; by one brother, Salomon, and by one sister, Esther.

Gussie E. Robertson
Gussie E. Robertson of Duncanville was born December 4, 1907, in Abilene, Texas. She passed away August 14, 2000.
She had been a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church since 1948. She retired from Continental Insurance Co. She was preceded in death by one sister, Mary; three brothers, Loyd, Henry and Alvin.
She is survived by two sisters, Annie Eudora Robertson and Ruth Joyce and brother-in-law Ted Joyce of Duncanville; one brother, Morris Robertson and wife, Faye, of Seymour, Texas; sister-in-laws Paulyne Robertson of Corsicana and Lois Robertson of Waxahachie; and many nieces and nephews.
Services were conducted by Reverend Mike Simmons, assisted by her nephew Bob Joyce, at David Clayton & Sons Funeral Home Chapel in Duncanville at 10 a.m. Thursday, August 17. Interment followed at Little Bethel Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hillcrest Baptist Church Building Fund, 265 W. Pleasant Run, Cedar Hill, Texas 75106; or a charity of your choice.

Judy Kay Place
Judy Kay Place, age 45, of Seymour, Texas, passed away Wednesday, October 11, 2000, in a Wichita Falls, Texas, hospital.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, October 13, 2000, at the Northeast Baptist Church in Seymour, with the Reverend Johnny Bullard, pastor, officiating. Interment was in the Riverview Cemetery under the direction of Seymour Memorial Funeral Home.
Mrs. Place was born December 4, 1954, in Fort Worth, Texas. She married James Place, Jr. on April 3, 1976, in Fort Worth. She was a cook at the Seymour Hospital and was a member of the Northeast Baptist Church.
She is survived by her husband, Jim, of Seymour; by a son, Cody Place, of Seymour; by her parents, Sammy and Peggy Thomas of Fort Worth; and by a sister, Sara Jones, of Fort Worth.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Steven Jones, on September 18, 1998.

Lessie Fay Welch
Lessie Fay Welch, age 88, of Seymour, passed away Sunday, October 29, 2000, at her residence.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, November 1, at the Calvary Baptist Church in Seymour with Carlton Brock, officiating. Interment was in the Round Timber Cemetery under the direction of Seymour Memorial Funeral Home.
Mrs. Welch was born June 15, 1912, in Round Timber, Texas, to the late Benjamin Franklin and Lucy Belle Rouswell Stennett. She married Henry Floyd Welch on October 12, 1929, in Round Timber, Texas. He preceded her in death on February 6, 1974. She was a homemaker and a member of the Calvary Baptist Church.
She is survived by one daughter, Joyce Hedges of Wichita Falls, Texas; by three sons, Donald Welch of Seymour, Garland Welch of Wichita Falls, Texas, and Eldon Welch of Columbia, Tennessee; by 12 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Charlie M. Myers
Charlie M. Myers, 64, of Seymour, Texas, died Wednesday, October 25, 2000, at Hospice in Wichita Falls, Texas.
Christian Wake service was held Friday, October 27, at 6 p.m. at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Seymour with Revered Richard Eldredge, officiating.
Funeral services were held Saturday, October 28, at 1 p.m. at First Baptist Church, with Reverend Jeremy Myers, officiating. Burial was in Catholic Cemetery in Seymour.
Mr. Myers was born September 10, 1936, in Crowell, Texas. He was raised and attended school in Gilliland, Texas. He and Mary Koetter were married January 24, 1960, in Wichita Falls. They lived in Wichita Falls for several years before moving to Seymour in 1972. He owned and operated Charlie Myers Grain Elevator. He was a Baptist.
His brother, Kenneth Myers, died in 1999.
Survivors include his wife, Mary, of Seymour; a daughter and son-in-law, Shellye and Tim Kuehler of Seymour; a son and daughter-in-law, Chuck and Shelli Myers of Seymour; two brothers, Billie Jake Myers of Rhineland, Texas, and Dean Myers of Seymour; and four grandchildren, Sarah Hosea, Chaz Myers, Chelsea Myers and Zachary Kuehler.
Memorials may be made to Baylor County Livestock Association or the Cliff Styles Activity Center.
