Gladys M. Finto

Gladys Meta Finto, 88 of Rockport and formerly of Yorktown, passed away on Oct. 22.
Born May 28, 1915 to the late Adolph G. and Meta Friedrichks Riemenschneider at Dobskyville. Gladys was a retired Nurse for Goliad County Hospital.
Survived by sisters, Ailene Reitz of Goliad, Lou Gruetzmacher of Weesatche, Verline Yoast of Fulton, Ruby Sterns of Sinton, and Virginia Potcinske of Yorktown; four brothers, Adolph C. Reimenschneider of Miles, Leroy Riemenschneider of Wimberly, Dixon Riemenschneider of Seguin, and Charles Riemenschneider of Weesatche; special nieces, Brandy Henry of Rockport and Vickie Borgfeld of Weesatche; and nephew, Chris Danysch of Rockport.
Graveside services were Friday, October 24 in Weesatche Cemetery in Weesatche, C. B. Suggs S.A.M. officiated. Colonial Funeral Home, Goliad, 361-645-3216.

Edmund C. Buchhorn

Edmund C. Buchhorn, 88, of Cuero, died Saturday, October 25, 2003.
He was born on January 22, 1915, in DeWitt County to Edmund Buchhorn and Alma Schlinke Buchhorn. He was a rancher and farmer.
Ed is survived by his wife Gladys Knoche Buchhorn; daughter, Sandra Oehlke and husband Melvin; son, Roy A. Buchhorn and wife Sue; granddaughters, Katheryn Gips and husband Jimmy of Yorktown, Leslie and husband Steve Breeden of Whitehouse; and two great-grandchildren.
Preceded by parents and grandson Bruce Allen Buchhorn.
Visitation was held Sunday, October 26 at the Freund Funeral Home. Funeral services were Monday, October 27 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Lindenau, Rev. William Hill officiated. Burial was in Lindenau Community Cemetery. Freund Funeral Home, Cuero, 361-275-2343.
Pallbearers: Robert Wood, Steve Breeden, Jimmy Gips, Weldon Buchhorn, Oscar Schlinke III, and Leslie Buchhorn.
Memorials may be made to St. John's Lutheran Church or Hospice of South Texas.

James H. Rector

James H. Rector, 75, of Yorktown, died Monday, Oct. 13, 2003.
He was born March 11, 1928, in Royston, to the late T.W. and Emma Lucile Barnes Rector. He was a welder and served in the Army Air Force. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Yorktown.
Survivors: wife, Doris Rector; daughters, Chrys Bennett of Rotan and Robin Jenkins of Portland; sons, James Rector Jr. of Richardson and Rodger Rector of Ingleside; brothers, Kelly Rector of Cedar Creek and Dale Rector of Whitesboro; 13 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Memorial services were Wednesday, Oct. 14 at First Baptist Church, the Rev. Billy Koinm officiated.
Memorials: Bluebonnet Youth Ranch, P.O. Box 90, Yoakum, Texas 77995.

Willard F. Marshall

Willard F. Marshall, 91, of Cuero, died Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2003.
She was born March 3, 1912, in Cuero, to the late Walter and Gertrude Harris Fryer. She was a nurse's aid and a Baptist.
Survivors: daughter, Laura Odom of Cuero; son, Hobson Brown of Cuero; 13 grandchildren; and 35 great-grandchildren.
Preceded in death by her son, Clifton W. Brown, and parents.
Visitation was Friday, Oct. 17 at Freund Funeral Home Chapel. Graveside services were Friday at Woodmen Cemetery, the Rev. Chester Polk officiated. Freund Funeral Home, Cuero, 361-275-2343.

Luciano Cavazos

Luciano Cavazos, 92, of Goliad and formerly of Yorktown, died Wednesday, Oct. 15, 2003.
He was born Dec. 13, 1910, in Yorktown, to the late Esavel Cavazos and Anita Rodriguez. He was a member of San Luis Catholic Church.
Survivors: wife, Trinidad G. Cavazos; daughters, Anita Hernandez of Goliad, Sally A. Cavazos of Lamesa, Odelia Avalos of Mesquite, Candy Cardona of Corpus Christi, and Hisidra Hilburn of Arlington; sons, Esavel Cavazos of Big Springs, Luciano Cavazos Jr. of Austin, and Jesus Cavazos of Faben; sister, Cleofas Augliar of Corpus Christi; 29 grandchildren; 55 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.
Preceded in death by: five sisters; and three brothers.
A vigil was held Friday, Oct. 17 at Lamprecht-Janssen Funeral Home Chapel. Services were Saturday at San Luis Catholic Church. Burial was at San Luis Catholic Cemetery. Lamprecht-Janssen Funeral Home, Yorktown, 361-564-2277.

Carmen G. Garcia

Carmen G. Garcia, 83, of Nordheim, died Thursday, Oct. 16, 2003.
She was born May 28, 1920, in Yorktown, to the late Juan and Abelina Gonzales. She was a homemaker and member of the Pentecostal Church.
Survivors: daughters, Stella Baggett of Houston and Eva Dueser of Yorktown; sons, Emilio Garcia of Runge, Celso Garcia of Nordheim, Erasmo Garcia of Pasadena, Geraldo Garcia of Lake Jackson, Raymond Garcia of Yorktown, Antonio Garcia of Alvin, Brigidio Garcia Jr. of Pearland, Juan Garcia of LaFeria, Alejandro Garcia of Deerpark, and David Garcia of Victoria; sisters, Benita Torres, Genoveva Morales, and Evelyn Benevidez, all of Port Lavaca; brother, Rocky Gonzales; 25 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
Preceded in death by: husband, Brigido Garcia; son, Enrique Garcia; and two grandsons.
Visitation was Friday, Oct. 17 at Lamprecht-Janssen Funeral Home Chapel. Services were Saturday at the funeral home chapel. Burial will be at Nordheim Cemetery. Lamprecht-Janssen Funeral Home, Yorktown, 361-564-2277.

Pauline M. H. Kacir

Pauline Marie Hiller Kacir, 79, entered into eternal rest Monday, Nov. 24, 2003, as a result of a fire that destroyed her home at 513 Lavaca St., Cuero.
She was born March 26, 1924, in Graham, to the late Felix and Bertha Koenig Hiller. She lived most of her life in Cuero, attending St. Michael’s School and graduating from Cuero High School in the class of 1940. After two years of business courses at Our Lady of the Lake in San Antonio, she worked at the army base in Hondo.
On Nov. 22, 1945, she married Eugene Kacir who preceded her in death on April 28, 2003. She was an active member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church were she served as a lectern and a Eucharistic Minister, taking communion to homebound members of the parish. She was a member of the Altar Society and Catholic Daughters of America. She volunteered many hours to the Cuero Community Hospital Auxiliary. She worked as a court reporter in the 24th District in Judge Green’s court and later transcribed court documents and was a substitute court reporter in several area courts.
With all her involvement in church and community, her life work was that of homemaker and care of her family. She is survived by her children, son Gene and wife Margie Kacir of New Hartford, Connecticut; son Mike and wife Helga Kacir of Worms, Germany; son Ken and wife Helga Kacir of McKinney; son David Kacir of Cuero and fiance Connie Baker of Gonzales; son Tom and wife Jane Kacir of Midland; daughters, Karen and husband Caesar Ursic of Sydney, Australia; sisters, Kathleen Ernster of Cuero and Ana Lea Tinney of San Antonio; brother, Bubba Hiller of Cuero; grandchildren, Courtney Kacir of Cuero; Joseph, Daniel, and Lucy Kacir of New Hartford, Connecticut; and Clara and Marcello Ursic of Sydney, Australia.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and one grandchild, Kathleen Kacir of Cuero.
The funeral service took place Friday, Nov. 28 at St. Michael's Catholic Church with the Rev. Kirby Hlavaty officiating. Burial was in Hillside Cemetery. Freund Funeral Home, Cuero, 361-275-2343, was in charge of the arrangements.
Pallbearers were Joseph Kacir, David Kacir, Phil Ernster, Robbi Kirk, Ed Southern, and Tony Warzecha.
Memorials may be made to St. Michael's School Operating Fund, 302 E. Church Street, Cuero 77954.

Roy Hayward Malaer

Roy Hayward Malaer, 56, of Waelder, died Thursday, Nov. 27, 2003.
He was born in Gonzales on March 20, 1947 to Olen A. Malaer Sr. and the late Margaret Glover. He married Linda Kay Wulf on Nov. 22, 1967 in Waelder. He was a member of the Waelder Masonic Lodge.
He is survived by his wife; parents; daughter, Pamela Michelle Pritchett and husband Jeff D. of Cuero; son, Scott Hayward Malaer of Waelder; grandchildren, Shelby Michelle Pritchett of Cuero and Mason Riley Malaer of Baytown; sister, Patricia Govett of Saturn; brothers, Olen Malaer Jr. and Vernon Malaer, both of Saturn, Albert Malaer of Port Lavaca, and David Malaer of Harwood.
He was preceded in death by his mother.
Visitation was Friday, Nov. 28 at Seydler-Hill Funeral Home in Gonzales. Funeral services were Saturday at the funeral home, the Rev. David Hagan officiated. Burial was in Waelder City Cemetery.
Pallbearers: Mark Malaer, Billy Malaer, Danny Janecka II, Jeff Cernosek, Wayne Guzman, and Richard Caka.
Honorary pallbearers: David Jones, Robert Halbardier, Debbie Bayley, Jose Vargas, and Ciro Contreras.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or South Texas Hospice, 1206 N. Texana, Suite A, Hallettsville, Texas 77964.

Helen Marie Fetters

Helen Marie Fetters, 80, of Cuero, died Monday, Nov. 24, 2003.
She was born on October 26, 1923, in Thomaston to the late Helen (Wolter) Pridgen and Oscar Wiley Pridgen. One of the great loves of her life was the game of golf which she participated in for many years, having won many trophies.
Helen is survived by her daughter, Brenda Shoe of Waxhaw, North Carolina; son, Marion G. Fetters Jr. of Cuero; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and sisters, Elaine Barron and Gloria Rice, both of Cuero, and Patty Morgan of San Antonio.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Marion G. Fetters Sr.; son, Gregory Lee Fetters; sisters, Anne Lee Pridgen and Phyllis Frank; and brother, William Wiley Pridgen.
Services were Wednesday, Nov. 26 at St. Mark's Lutheran Church. Burial was at Hillside Cemetery in Cuero under the direction of Freund Funeral Home, 361-275-2343.
Pallbearers: Mike Barron, Mike Boose, Ray Coronado, Jim Elmore, Bob Farris, and Gregory Fetters.
Memorials may be made to St. Mark's Lutheran Church.

Alice Voelkel

Services for Alice Voelkel, 75, of Nordheim, who died Thursday, were Sunday, November 30 at Lamprecht-Janssen Funeral Home chapel, the Rev. Steve Byrne officiated. Burial was at Nordheim Cemetery. Lamprecht-Janssen Funeral Home, Yorktown, 361-564-2277.
Pallbearers: B.J. Voelkel, Kolby Voelkel, Tanner Voelkel, Brent Werzner, Glenn Voelkel, and Gordon Spies.
Memorials: Hospice of South Texas or donor's choice.

James E. Dlugosch Sr.

James Edward Dlugosch Sr., age 86, went to his eternal home on Friday, November 28, 2003.
He was born in Yorktown to the late Theodore and Bena Kolodziejczyk Dlugosch on November 28, 1917.
He is survived by daughters, Alice Poage and husband Steve of Ft. Stockton and Kristine Rush and husband David of Bloomington; sons, James Dlugosch Jr. and wife Nellene of Portland, Ted Dlugosch and wife Vernell of Corpus Christi; son-in-law, Mickey Sullivan of Goliad; nine grandchildren: Stacey Agnew and husband Brian, Jack Poage, Charles Poage, Michael Sullivan, Mary Borden and husband Doug, Jason Dlugosch and wife Christina, Angela Karnei and husband Jarred, Kimberly Dlugosch, Jennifer Dlugosch; and two great-grandsons: Colby Karnei and Andrew Dlugosch. Also a sister, Gladys Morris and husband Eldred of Marble Falls; brother-in-law, Fred Dickinson of San Antonio; and Agnes Dlugosch of Victoria.
He is preceded in death by a daughter, Carol Sullivan, and sister, Mary Ann Dickinson.
James retired from Delta Electric Company after 25 years as a commercial electrician.
Pallbearers are Jason Dlugosch, Jack Poage, Charles Poage, Brian Agnew, Jarred Karnei, and Doug Borden.
A rosary was recited Saturday, November 29 at Lamprecht-Janssen Funeral Home in Yorktown. The funeral Mass was Sunday at Holy Cross Catholic Church with interment in Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery.
